OS: Feature request: Send message before reset

Hello..
I have a feature request for the OS for the BB smartphones.
When the phone is locked with a password and the number of attempts is exceeded, the phone's memory is wiped and reset to a near-factory state.  This is good; it protects confidential information from falling into the wrong hands.
What would be useful is, just before the memory is wiped, to send an email message from the default account (probably to the default email account as well, but have this be settable) with information regarding what is happening, a timestamp, and a location as well.  For instance:
This is an automated message from the Blackberry SmartPhone with the following information:
Phone number: xxxxxxxxxx
Serial number: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
<other information such as OS version, &c>
The number of attempts to unlock the phone has been exceeded.  The phone is being reset and the memory cleaned.
Date: xx-xx-xxxx
Time: xx:xx:xx am/pm (TZ information)
Latitude: dd.ddddddd
Longitude: dd.dddddd
You may use this information to locate where the phone was at the time this message was generated.
Is this possible? Advisable? The serial number could be obtained by looking at the phone, so including it shouldn't be a problem.  The phone number may or may not be included.
Thanks!
roger

Hello and Welcome to the Forums!
In regards to your hope that RIM will see your message -- these forums are a user-to-user support channel, not a user-to-RIM conduit. As such, it is unlikely that they will see what you have written. However, if you have specific and constructive ideas for them, I have heard that they accept such via email to [email protected]
Your idea is indeed interesting...however, I see one flaw. You've said that an email message should be sent FROM the default email account...but you've not said where that email message should be sent TO...
Good luck!

  • EPrint Portal Feature Request - Discarded Messages Email Address

When a user has the ePrint Center site configured to only allow printing from allowed email addresses, the site displays emails that have been discarded because they are not on the approved sender list.
    Feature Request:
Please consider changing the listing of discarded messages to include the sender's email address in addition to the subject you already show.  Even better, have an option to click on the email address to add it to the approved senders list.
While one might wonder how you wouldn't know the sender's address, in my case, my wife would send recipes from a recipe site and they would be blocked.  To get around this (other than turning off the address list feature), we can send them first to our own email address to find the sending email but what I mentioned would simplify things.  Users' technology patience can vary and while I am quite patient for the sake of technology and gadgetry my wife is less patient which, in this case, led to her abandoning the feature.

    Good news.
To the top right is a link that says View Job History.
Click on this link and it will show the e-mail address.
I confirmed this by logging into my eprintcenter.com account, changing to allowed senders only and then sent an e-mail from a blocked e-mail address.
The short summary did not show the e-mail address, but the full history did show the specific e-mail address.
You can then copy and paste this e-mail address into your list.
Additionally, changing from allowed to everyone and then back will re-add all recent e-mail addresses that successfully printed though it won't add anything that hasn't recently printed.

  • Mail keeps sending messages before I'm ready

My desktop Mac (Intel) keeps sending my messages before I'm done with my mesage

This smells like a permissions issue, and it cannot be fixed repairing permission with Disk Utility.
Well, I looked up the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded
files to see if they were being written to and saved
(updated). Basically, I was just checking the last
    saved dates on them.
And the result of looking at them was?
And there were only 3 POP folders
where these MessageUID files were in.
These files are what Mail uses to keep track of which files have already been downloaded. There should be either one or two of them in each POP account. What you're saying indicates clearly that there is a problem with these files.
Does the multiple downloads problem happen with all accounts or only with the one that lacks the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded file? -- sorry if you already knew this, but just to be sure, to know which account a "POP-" folder is associated with, just look at the folder name. It's formed by appending the account username and the incoming mail server to the account type (POP).
In the Finder, select the account folder that lacks a MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded file, and choose File > Get Info (⌘I). Under Ownership & Permissions, are you granted "Read & Write" access. Expand Details. Are you listed as the owner of this folder?
Note: There are several bugs in the Finder that make troubleshooting this kind of problems harder that it should be, and you may end up reading wrong information and/or incorrectly "fixing" non-existent problems if you play too much with it. If your problem ends up being a permissions issue, are you willing to troubleshoot it using the CLI in Terminal?

  • Mail Sending Messages Before They Are Complete!

Hey guys, I've had numerous problems with Mail in 10.6.1 (see below) that I never had with 10.4, but this problem is the worst! Mail is sending my messages to their recipient before I finish fully typing the email, so the recipient receives an email that cuts off in mid-sentence! What the heck is going on and how do I fix it?
Just FYI, here are the other Mail OSX 10.6.1 issues I have had:
    1) I had all kinds of problems syncing Mail with Gmail using IMAP. One of them was I would move messages into a separate folder in Mail, Mail would sync with the Gmail server and create the folder and move the messages, then Mail would go back and retrieve all the emails I had moved and replace them in the old folder!
    2) I had a problem where the mailbox archive feature was only archiving some of the emails in a mailbox, so out of 400 messages, for example, the completed archived mailbox would only have 50 of them.
    3) There's a useful feature the previous build had that got lost. When you attach a picture, then want to attach another one, it makes you find the folder from scratch again instead of opening up the last folder right away.

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions..
Since you have so many issues with Mail...
Launch Mail. From the Menu Bar, click Mail / Preferences.
Make note of all the preferences under each tab.
    Close Mail.
    Locate this file.
    com.apple.Mail.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences.
Move that file to the Trash and restart your Mac.
    Hopefully that will help...
This thread might offer help for GMail sync issues.

  • Mail sends message before finished writing

I have a user who experiences a weird phenomenon with her Apple Mail program. She will be typing and suddenly (randomly) the message will send before it is finished. We've tried replacing her keyboard but the problem is persisting. User is on Mac OS X 10.7 (not sure what build). Any suggestions?

I get exactly the same thing with my Macbook Air. I wonder if my sleeve is brushing the touchpad and triggering something whilst typing. The keyboard shortcut is shift-command-D and I am not hitting that! It is extemely embarrassing as some emails are half fininshed.
I cannot see any solutions but note some iPhone users say they have the same problem. Someone else suggests it is linked ot autosave on the server being checked but is definately associated with typing so I doubt that is the issue.
Come on Apple, please sort this out as it makes using the system for work a liability.

  • Feature request: Send meeting updates *only* to those attendees affected bys the change.

I'm uing iCal in lieu of Outlook in my organization's Exchange environment.  When I add a single invitee to a meeting, EVERY attendee gets spammed with an update and has to re-accept the meeting.
I just switched back from Outlook '07 because it seems Exchange synchronicity with iCal has vastly improved over the last time I tried it, however this is a bit embarassing for me and annoying for meeting invitees.  Outlook '07 features the option I'm requesting.

  • Feature Request: Send to Tape via Media Manager

Please forgive me if this capability is already available in FCP.
I would love to see the ability to automatically transfer all the clips of a particular project, takes and outtakes included, back to a single, new tape using the Media Manager. Furthermore, the Media Manager could modify the timecode info for each of the clips into a new "archive" project to correspond with the newly created tape. This way, I could basically archive entire projects out to tape and have everything I need footage-wise in one place. With such a feature, bringing a project back online would only require a single batch capture.
I understand and use the Send to Tape feature of FCP, but it doesn't modify the project file to correspond to the newly recorded footage that is "Sent". Or does it? Please correct me if there is a way to do this. It apparently doesn't back output on autopilot the way I'm suggesting.
Why not just take large projects offline the old fashioned way?
Many times I have to rent Digibeta decks to capture film transfer footage. This costs costs $400+ each time I need to bring footage back online. I would love to just archive the material out to inexpensive miniDV which is high enough quality for 95% of my work since I rarely ever do color keying.
Also, leaving the footage online is getting to be very hard to manage. Since I like to keep my outtakes for future versions, most of my projects are far too large when collected to fit on DVD-R or even Dual Layer. Furthermore, I've had a few drives go bad recently and it's becoming clear to me that online storage isn't really a sustainable workflow for me.
Any thoughts? I really want to hear from you on this one.

The loss in quality is really not visible with 16mm footage which is my most common stock used. In fact, I have Varicam 24P footage that looks stunning mastered to DV-25.
I would suggest that if an editor was planning on advanced keying or rotoscoping the advantages of 4:2:2 would become apparent. But for TV commerical broadcast and DVD distribution, the quality difference is not very apparent at all. I make TV commercials.
Also, if I print a master to miniDV then dub the miniDV over SDI to Digibeta for broadcast distribution the quality is actually better than miniDV alone. This process actually adds chroma smoothing to the DV's 4:1:1 color space, making it look very, very clean.
I personally think that DV-25 has gotten a bit of a bad name due to the quality of the cameras that use the format, rather than the actual merits of the format itself. Varicam 24P footage looks great downsampled to dv-25, much better than XL-1 footage does for instance. If one notices jaggies in FCP, just activate the 4:1:1 color smoothing filter and walla! The footage looks just like 4:2:2 to the naked eye.
Of course, this is only my opinion.
Alas, with very small text I do get luminance jaggies, presumably from the 1:7 compression, but the workflow I'm describing in this tread would be for source footage, mostly devoid of small text which is added in the FCP project.

  • Feature request: auto-save timer reset

The auto save timer currently runs continuously: every n minutes, it auto-saves if the project has changed. It should auto-save n minutes after the last save whether auto or not. That is, any save action should reset the countdown timer. Also, auto-save shouldn't start while a manual save action is in progress.

    There is a better way.

  • Sync of send messages from iCloud to Mail blocks

    Hi all,
Since Apple had some problems with their iCloud service on June 18th, I experience very annoying problems with Mail.
When trying to sync mail with my iCloud account the "Send mail" box does sync everything properly, but the strange thing that happens every time is that the sync process as shown in the activity windows stucks. The progress bar remains halfway, the CPU usage of mail goes up to 200% and the fan goes crazy. I then can only "Force quit" the Mail program.
When looking at the "Send" box all send mail is shown, but only the headers, not part of the content.
When clicking on a message the contents shows up properly in the separate mail windows.
(sorry fot the Dutch text :-)
So everything syncs properly but it looks like a specific process hangs.
    I've tried several things:
Disabling Mail in iCloud system preferences
Deleting my iCloud account in Mail
Rebuilding all in- and out mailboxes
    Rebuilding only the "send mailbox"
Restoring the complete Mail directory in the Library with a (Time Machine) backup from an earlier date
Deleting info.plist in the Mail directory
Creating another user on my Mac and initialize my iCloud account in Mail again for that user
    Nothing helps.
So now every time I start Mail the normal steps are processed (as seen in the activity windows) but after a while it all ends up again as shown in the first image. (the progress bar pops up immediately halfway).
And I can only for a very short time check my mail, send messages before the CPU usage goes up again and the fan accelerates to a very high speed.
The only thing I can do then is "Force quit" the mail program.
    Any idea what causes this?
    Thanks for the help!
    Gert

There are ways to get Thunderbird to use the correct Sent, Trash, Drafts folders for iCloud mail. You'll need to google how to do that. Not super straightforward, but it works. Note that unless you correctly map these folders, the mail you send using Thunderbird will not appear in Sent items on other computers, I don't believe. It will remain local to the machine that sent it.
Anyway, there are a few other things you could try to fix Mail. I was about to do this myself, but my problem seems to have gone away.
Open System Preferences and create a new user account with Admin priveledges (i.e. call it Test or something). Close System Preferences
While still in your account, go to ~/Library and copy your entire Mail folder to /Users/Shared (make a copy; don't move it).
Log out of your account and log into the new account you just created.
Browse to the Mail folder in Shared and copy it to ~/Library on the Test account. If you have never launched Mail before on that account, I don't think there will be a Mail folder in that location already
From this point, since you are working from a COPY, you can start experiementing. Start Mail and see if it works normally (if it does, then there is probably something wrong in your Prefs in your account). Try deleting some of the mail folders and starting Mail again to see if one of them was causing a problem, etc.
I don't have any specific tips related to step 5 -- I was just planning on experiementing to see what was causing Mail to hang. And since this is a COPY of your mail, it should be completely risk-free.
Good luck and let me know if you make any progress.

i want to change my password but the system is not sending me message to reset my password. pls help someone is using my password without my permission and i want to change my password.

If you are talking about your Apple ID password, make sure it IS your apple ID.
In the past 24 hours, I have received two emails "How to reset your Apple ID password". I  had not requested any change and I finally realized someone else is trying to reset the password. I have had this Apple ID since 2009 so I am not using someone else's ID.
Again, if you are not receiving the email to reset make sure you have the right ID - it might be going to the email linked to the account, and it might not be yours.

  • Edit a mail message before sending

How do I edit an email in Mail while spell-checking? Sounds simple, but my stupidity means I can't find out how to do it.
Here's my scenario: I write a message, hit send and it brings up the spellchecker. Then while doing the spellcheck, I realise that I want to add or alter something in the email. So I come out of the spellchecker, either by closing it or just clicking on the body of the message, and try to edit the email. But when I then click in to the text I want to change and hit a key, any key it seems. the email just sends - doesn't give an opportunity to make those changes.
This has to be something so obvious that I will cringe with embarrassment when I read the answer, but I hope someone will take pity on me and give me the answer!
    Thanks to that person!
BTW, the thing is I only started using Mail a short while ago, having been a confirmed Thunderbird user...

    Hi Lavakumar,
Based on my knowledge, getting an alert before sending messages can't be achieved by Exchange Server.
I would like to know what your purpose is. If you want to avoid users from sending wrong messages, recall feature can help them when they send wrong messages.

  • I have an iMac, and have a Verizon DSL account. Recently, my Mac Mail keeps requesting the passwords on my account every few minutes, and will not allow me to send messages using Mac Mail. I cannot edit the outgoing server; how can I send emails?

I have an iMac, and have a Verizon DSL account (3 email addresses). Recently, my Mac Mail keeps requesting the passwords on my accounts every few minutes, and will not allow me to send messages using Mac Mail (the message says that the outgoing server was rejected. I cannot edit the outgoing server, and the keychain will not save my passwords (the ports are valid). How can I change the outgoing server to send emails, and how can I avoid having Mail request my passwords every 2 minutes? Verizon, as usual, will not provide support to iMacs.

Is there an email saved in your drafts or outbox folder?  I suspect that Mail is continually trying to send it, and each time Google is rejecting the email message.
You can open the message and then delete it from your Outbox folder.  Then try removing all @gmail email addresses from it and seeing whether you can send to the other folks.  I suspect that will work.
With email, if an SMTP server *can* verify email addresses, sometimes it will and it will refuse to send messages.  If a message has to be relayed across servers, no verification is done, and you'll get a bounce if an email address is bad.
