Osx mavericks HDD Test Help please :o)

Hi.
I know this machine is gettin old, but lately........!!! ?? its getting worse every week. If its Hardware issues, or me who have done something wrong?
The problem started after Mountain Lion. Maybe i did something wrong. Loved the features and the change. But i got slooooooow! But now since "Mavericks" theres so much error opening applications etc that works on every other apple product i use, and the waaaaaiiiitiiiing for things af simple as "Safari" to open up an be ready.....
Heres my question. How can i do a Hardware test?? According to the manual that followed "Mac OS X Snow Leopard - Version 10.6.3" there are several ways to start the test. ( I Knoooooow, info from this manual isnt up to date ;D ) But i´ve tried it and nothing happens.
I´ve spend som time online, for a way to get it done, so far no luck
Besides my need for help with Hardware test, i´m open for any suggestion of how to test software problems. Not the usual Mackeeper etc.... I´m a student in Univercity Denmark and reeeaaaalllly hope to correct or fix it just until i finish my studies.. Cant afford a new one
I dont expect a miracle no matter what. Its old and used 24/7 since i bought it
If enyone knows about these error message i get, ill gladly sendt i to you. Kept it away in this message, when they often exeed 30-40 pages written i tiny letters

If the system is way too slow is probably the hard disk that has problems.
As for hardware test, you need your original Snow Leopard installation disk. Start the Mac with the DVD loaded, press and hold the D key until you see the Apple logo, then release the key and wait until the program starts.

  • I think I have a problem with Mavericks: can anyone help,please?

A couple of days ago I installed Mavericks on top of my existing Mountain Lion OS. Not before I backed up the ML version with Time Machine, though.... :-)
Initially I thought everthing was fine, but then started to notice a few things that bothered me, which have not gone away. In fact, I think this install is now a potential problem. Unlike many other people, elsewhere on this forum, I have not noticed the calamitous slowing down and general unusability of Mavericks. I'm using a prety new i7 iMac ( the new flat one) with 32 GB of RAM.Everytihng worked great with Mountain Lion. However, The following anomalies have cropped up: Mail is taking over 30" to send a simple email. In ML it was almost instantaneous. I feel that Mail is not performing as it did in ML, and the same goes for Safari. It "feels" odd and slow and can take an age to load up pages. In fact one particular page would not load properly at all, but worked fine in Firefox. In the end got it to work in Sfari, but ithis type of behaviour doesn't instill confidence. Things got wierder...
An update to iMovie got " stuck" in the dowload process, and was perpetually downloading in Launchpad. It kept oscillating from approx 61 MB to aprrox 84 MB of a 1.94 GB file. Then I did a disk utiltiy test of my system drive and it suddenly stated that the drive need repairing. I booted up in Recovery Mode and tested the drive, which came back all clear! I booted up normally again and now the disk utility won't even complete a full diagnosis of the drive! It will diagnos all my other drives fine though.... :-s  It keeps getting stuck on: Checking Volume Bitmap, and won't go any further. So, I did what some other person did on another thread, which seemed to clear up his problems; namely: simply reinstalled Mavericks  from Recovery mode. This did not improve anything for me. The same issues remain. In fact as I type this, I notice that I'm using nearly 23 GB of my 32 GB of RAM, and all I have open is Safari, Disk Utility and Mail ! To quote Hans Solo: " I've got a b-a-a-a-d feeling about this..."
So, this is my long-winded way of asking: what shall I do? I would like to boot in Recovery Mode and reinstall my back up from an external drive. Does anyone have any advice about this, please? If I restore from my backup, will I actually get the ML OS back on the computer, or will  I be stuck with Mavericks trying to impose itself ,as some people reported? I do want to use Mavericks, but not in the condition it's in right now. Also,  really don't want to perfom a clean install and migrate everything over from the Time Machine back up....
    Thanks for any advice.

I don't think that a software update from Apple will solve the issues that you are having. You have a rogue installation. After you posted I have just done the following:
Disk Utility can verify  my partitioned Volume (including my boot disk) AND REPAIR the non-boot disks on the same Volume without a glitch. It repairs the non-boot disks containing data smoothly.
I have used Mail to send some mails from some Yahoo and Hotmail accounts to my Thunderbird client containing GMail accounts - absolutely normal.
I have iLife '09 but my iMovie '09 and iPhoto '09 open in a jiffy and I see no issues here. I have 6GB RAM (Maximum) on an early 2008 Macbook Pro with a 750GB hard drive partitioned with 120GB reserved for the Boot Drive.
I am sorry that I cannot help further but I am sure there must be a way to reinstall the software without having to revert to restoring your ML backup. I have two clones and if you have such I would attempt to do that through that rather than through Time Machine - that is of course if you have a cloned drive.
    Good luck!

But I am unable to run the player. Do I need to download anything else. If so please let me know.
In a previous post I read someone asking to change the file extension to '.sim'.  but which file should I change the extension.
Your help will be really appreciated with full points.
    Please help its urgent.
    Thanks,
    Raadika.

I don't think that such tutorials exist well in fact I have never seen them. Maybe SAP will think about it.
What I have eard about is the book called <i>SAP BW Certification : A Business Information Warehouse Study Guide</i>
here is an extract of its content
"An introduction to the BW certification exam
An overview of the exam's topics, including such features as "On the Exam," "Optimization Tips," "Note," "Restrictions," "Unique to SAP," and "New to SAP"
Exercises that can be performed with a small test-BW server
Practice test questions and answers that assess the reader's knowledge of current exam topics
    A complete simulated certification exam"
Otherwise you have the SAP web site providing you with information related to the exam.
The exam is based on the courses BW305 310 etc... till 370.
You also have got plenty of posts in the forum.
    hope this could help you

  • HT201364 Can't download Mavericks. Need help please

I seem to have all the required specs to upgrade to Mavericks, but it says I can't. I have a 17 inch MacBook Pro, 2Gs Memory, 70 G space. Can someone please assist?

There was a More Info button. When I clicked it, I got the Overview where it would logically seem that I'd see the year there, but no luck. I see processor, memory, graphics, serial number (starts W87), and Software.
There are also links for Displays, Storage, Memory, Support and Service. None of them have the necessary info. There's a link at the bottom for System Report. I clicked there and there's a Hardware Overview. We've got Model Name, Model Identifier, etc. But no year or Model Number.

  • Canon MG5250 Scanner not working with OSX 10.7.2 HELP PLEASE

I have tried to get my canon mg5252 multifunction to scan, im using OSX Lion 10.7.2, I have tried downloading the canon drivers (mp 4.0.3 and ica driver 1.9.0) but still cant get it to work !
Any help is greatly appreciated !
    Thanks
    sc

Uninstall the device using Canon's instructions. Then assuming you are using a USB connection to connect it to your computer restart the computer in Safe Mode to clear some caches. Then restart the computer normally. Then connect the printer to the computer via USB and turn on the printer. The printer should then be seen in the Print & Scan preferences. If not run Software Update. To scan use Image Capture (it's preloaded on your computer) and scan using the Image Capture tool.
If you still have trouble then follow the instructions in Printing Overview OS X Lion.

  • Cannot start isync in osx 10.4.11, help please.

I am on osx 10.4.11, ical version is 2.0.5. downloaded and installed isync 1.5 on the apple website, installed it successfully. but when i tried to launch isync, nothing happens. it won't launch. what do i need to do? i want to sycn my iphone address book using isync. what are the steps i need to take.
any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

Why did you replace the iSync version installed by Tiger with one that's obsolete? Perhaps that's the reason for your problem. The version of iSync installed as part of 10.4.11 is version 2.4.

  • Mavericks update? Help please! I need to know how I can update my computer because right now, it's just not happening.

I've looked at the tech specs and everything seems to be fine. I have the 2GB of memory, and the 10.6.8 operating system but it still won't let me update? Is there something I may have overlooked? What else can I try? I really need to keep my computer updated! I've left it alone before and it just gave me problems until I put the new operating system on. I can give more details if need be!

The only possible update for a model 2.1 is OS 10.7 Lion. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store.  The price is $19.99.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/faq/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-3-g b-memory-limitation-details.html
OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • Reinstall OS X Mavericks stuck. Help please

I reinstalled my OS X Mavericks & when I'm about to download the OS X Mavericks, it says "downloading additional components. your computer will restart automatically." and the progressing bar doesn't seem to move.

    Suz,
Most likely the lens on the drive is just dirty. Get a drive cleaning disk at Best Buy or Amazon. Something like this:

  • After Mavericks, applications tend to become slow, painfully slow. Particularly iMovie; all other applications, Mail, Browser (Chrome) and others too are either running slow or 'not responding'. Help, please

After upgrading to Mavericks, from Mountai Lion, all applications are slowing down. iMovie particularly is painfully slow. When iM is running, any other application that is opened up also runs slow or does not respond altogether. It was fine before Mavericks, can somebody help, please.
    Thank you.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Indesign performance is slow on Mac OSX Mavericks

    Hi,
I'm experiencing extremely poor performance from InDesign after a set period of time (usually an hour or two). The interface feels laggy and just general work within the program is jerky and slow. Along with this, some shortcuts like 'Duplicate' don't work, but work when clicked through the menu.
These problems seem to have occured ever since I installed OSX 10.9 Mavericks onto my iMac. Is this something other users are experiencing and is there a fix? If not, when are Adobe likely to get an update out that addresses glitches related to working on OSX Mavericks?
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    My machine:
    iMac 27", Mid 2010, 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory 16GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Agreed…and the bigger the upgrade the more the risk.
Since Apple is allowing free upgrades from as far back as Snow Leopard and everything was fine before the upgrade, I will fall back to my advice to do a clean install of the O/S after backing everything up.
That said, you may benefit from simply uninstalling and reinstalling.
Me? Mountain Lion is just fine for now but I've already created a boot disk for Mavericks and will do a clean install once all of my software has been declared Mavericks ready. Still waiting for Extensis to update Suitcase Fusion 5.
Edit: Steve was locking while I was replying.

  • Can't re-install osx lion / osx mavericks

    Hey guys I have a MBP 13" Late 2011.
My problem is that just recently, I was not able to boot into osx mavericks. (Originally had Lion, but I upgraded)
It kept getting stuck at the apple boot logo. I had windows 7 installed on my macbook through bootcamp and I'm able to boot there just fine.
I ended up having to erase my osx mavericks hdd. I was planning on reinstalling mavericks, but I wasn't able to because it said I needed to have osx lion installed. I don't have the install disk, if there is one, because it was pre-installed when the laptop was bought. I also don't have the original apple id that was used to purchase osx lion.
Is there some other way to re-install osx mavericks?
    Thanks

That's the problem. Mavericks has to be downloaded with your user ID in order for it to install. What model is your system?
