OSX-Server, iCal and Z10

Hello everybody,
i have a problem with syncing my iCal to my Z10 and I hope that there is a solution.
Im hosting my own OSX-Server 10.6 and on it there is the iCal-Servis witch runs perfectly with all Devices exept the Z10.
I inserted the login informations in the calendar setup and checked them multiple times but no succsess. In the Server logs there is only the massage that the login credentials aren´t correct. Is there a problem with the encryption of those?
I look forward to hear from you.
Many Thanks,
Neo7even

It's a known issue that the VPN client will not connect if it has a static address on the local network. You must get an address from DHCP. Maybe "DHCP with manual address" will work, but I don't know for sure.

  • Mac Mini OSX Server Version and installation

I am very interested in the New Mac Mini with OSX server configuration.
But I would like to know what is the difference between the "Retail" OSX server version and the "Bundled" OSX server version which came with the Mac Mini ?
Can the "Bundled" server version be installed on another intel-based Mac ( in case of hardware failure in the Mac Mini ) ?

The difference is that this is server software, it is not the Mac OS X client software for day-to-day use on a Pro or Consumer Mac.
The bundled software according to the Mac mini Server specs page is on an Install/Restore DVD. These are usually machine specific so it will not be usable by directly placing it in the ODD of another Mac, it should spit the disc out as unusable. But there are ways to connect the Macs and install the software to another Mac. However, the End User Agreement licenses the software for installation on only one Mac at a time.

  • OSX Server Edition and Samba

I am new to the Apple world and have been slowing converting to OSX. I have a quick question that I hope makes sense. I have a mixed environment of approximately 10 Macs and 5 PCs. I'm using a Mac Pro as a server, but it's running OSX, not server edition. Does the OSX server edition give us more control over shared access than ordinary OSX - in particular, there's an issue with Samba that requires anyone using a PC who wants to access a disk shared by a Mac to have an account on that Mac, and the logins seem to have some problems on the Windows side. (For instance, it fails if the disk is already connected, without telling you why -- it just re-presents the login dialog.)Can you give me any advice as to why?

OS X Server is intended for uses in which you are running a server with 10 or more clients. It is not a replacement for the Client version connecting to a Windows server nor facilitating simple sharing between a Mac and a PC in a home environment. Furthermore it's far more costly than the client version.
For a specific networking issue post a detailed description of your problem, what your physical network setup is, alternative solutions you may have tried but which did not solve the problem in the Networking forum.

  • Pages from OSX Server - Slow and impossible

Is anyone using Pages 08 in an office setting with OSX Tiger Server? We are an office with only 5 users and trying to migrate from AppleWorks to Pages '08. The speed at which Pages '08 saves and opens files from our server is terrible... documents take 4 to 5 times longer to open and to save a doc that it does with AppleWorks.
Is this typical? The speed is so slow that my staff is now suggesting we move to Word or some other WP. With AWs no longer supported, we need to a new WP. Pages '08 is all that we need but the slow performance with a server makes this app a lesser choice.

since you posted to web server forum, i have to also add that web server 7 bundles a tomcat like web container within and can be used for your web serving needs. you can download web server 7 from http://www.sun.com/webserver

  • Mac OSX server leopard and timemachine

I get an error when trying to use timemachine on the server, it says that there is not enough space to make an backup, but there is plenty of space on the backupdrive.
i think that the problem is size, i have 6 TB of data on my server, so the question is, are the a size limet on how big a disk that timemachine can backup?

Have you run Software Update several times to ensure you've picked up all available updates after upgrading to Snow Leopard?

  • LDAP iPhone 3.1.3, iPad and OSX Server 10.6

    Hello
First of all, sorry for my English.
I have new a Mac Mini Server. With my MBP I can connect to the server, iCal and Addresses syncs fine between Server and MBP.
Now I try for a long time, iPhone and iPad to connect with the server. With both, iCal works fine. Unfortunately with both Devices I can't sync Addresses.
Have somebody a suggestion to me what is wrong in my settings?
    Thanks a lot for helping.

    Well,
Not exactly true. Right now - yes there is no sync between address book and OSX Server, however, since you have a 10.6.X server CardDAV is a function that is supported.
iOS 4.0 (which is due for the iPhone in a week or so) does have built in support for CardDAV accounts.
I can't comment on its ability to do so as I haven't had the time to play with it since I received my 4.0 GM on Tuesday morning, but there are a few people reporting success.
So, wait a week or so - you'll get your CardDAV address book to work with your iPhone.
NOW IF APPLE WILL ONLY GIVE US NATIVE PUSH SUPPORT FOR EMAIL FROM OSX TO THE IPHONE...
    **** What a glaring oversight....

  • Setting up an OSX Server as a Gateway between Wan and Lan

    Hi there,
I just bought an OSX Server License and know im struggeling to setup my MacPro as a Gateway between my Lan and the Internet.
Im pretty new to these things I´m afraid, so a step-by-step list might help.....
I setup my en0 as PPPoE to my DSL-Modem what works fine.
Then i used the Gateway-Setup-Assistant to configure the DHCP,DNS Stuff....
Unfortunately none of the Clients in my Lan is able to connect to the Internet - the Server has got a connection but doesn´t pass it through somehow, although the Clients in my lan are connected to the Server.
Apple Resource and Help documentation is no help for me cause it just says use the Gateway Assistant and lean back.
I hope theres anyone out there understanding my issue and is willing to help!
    Thanks a lot
    Jan

Make sure you have the NAT service turned. If you can connect to the Internet from the server, but systems on the LAN can't get out, then NATting is the usual culprit! NAT (Network Address Translation) translates your WAN addresses to your LAN addresses. I've been through setting up OS X Server several times and usually end up doing it by hand instead of using the Assistant. I've seen problems in 10.4 server that when the DSL drops for a period of time for some reason NATting turns itself off. Don't know if Leopard server exhibits the same problem.

  • Managing a remote unix box with OSX server apps...

Aside from running an OSX server, I am in charge of maintaining an external, SUN unix server from my Mac, and I hate using line commands, esp. with how jaded I've become using the nice tools for managing the Mac server. For now I use terminal in order to change passwords, set permissions and so on as the sudo user on the unix box, and use rbrowser to edit cron jobs.
So, my question is, is there a way to get the OSX server admin tool to think the unix box is an OSX server? And if not, is there a graphical interface to maintain the server (it's running Apache too)? Rbrowser is cool and all, but doesn't let me use sudo for making chnages.
    Thanks for any help.
    Greg

Bummer about not having the Mac feel on SUN. Life can't always be perfect.
As far as the Webmin, no, haven't heard of it, but it sounds cool. The trick would be getting a huge client like SD County to let us buy it, then go through all the hoops and red tape to get it installed. Most likely their answer would be "Well, what have you been using this whole time and why isn't that good enough now all of a sudden?".
So for the time being, I'l have to be happy using RBrowser for file transfers between the test and production servers (beats the pants off of typing scp -p -i over and over again) and editing cron scripts. Too bad it doesn't provide sudo for changing passwords, groups, and so forth.
I'm this close to having the perfect work environment (the office I work in was all Windows with Dell laptops...until now).

  • How do I re-install my Mac OSX Server from scratch

    Hi,
I have purchased two MacMini Servers with 10.6 OSX Server software pre-installed.
I have changed the organization as our company name changed and run into license issues.
I want to re-install the Mac OSX Server software and start from scratch. How do I go about this. I tried yesterday for many hours to do so and the new installs are still running into duplicate license issues and other issues. What is the best approach to do re-install? I am willing to erase the internal Hard Disk and boot (with an external DVD optical drive) if that is the best way to go. What are the steps?
I have the original CDs or DVDs and have extra, external hard disks to do a Time Machine backup, etc.
    Thanks,
    Don

If you are looking to do a nuke and pave of the system, and you have an external optical drive, then yes, that is likely the most direct method. Connect the optical drive, insert the installation DVD, and reboot the system targeting the optical disk as the boot volume (you can do this by holding down the C key or the Option key during startup).
Now, if you do not have an optical drive, you can put the installation disk into another Mac running 10.6 and use the Remote Install Mac OS X application in your Utilities folder.
    Hope this helps

  • I have installed OSX server but I want to go back to Mountain Lion. How do I do this?

Can some one tell my how to remove OSX Server completely and return my system to the stand alone instalation of OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.1, please?

OSX Server for Mountain Lion is just an additional service.
For installing it, you moved "Server.app" in your Application folder and then run it.
For removing it you get some software like "AppCleaner".
    You can download it HERE.
All you do now, move the "Server.app" to the "AppCleaner".
AppCleaner will list now all the files and folders that Server.app installed.
Restart your computer after you're done. There are most likely additional folder and configurations
but the main 'server' part should be gone. For everything else, look there:

Move anything on the hard disk you want to keep to another drive, and then perform the first option which the Installer lets you do from those listed here.

  • OSX Server "Web Sites" port revocation?

    Hi:
I'm trying to run a wordpress installation with MAMP on my MacMini late 2012, Running OS X 10.10.2 and OS X Server 4.0.3
I have since played with the 'websites' feature but decided I didn't like it. So I installed MAMP and have set up wordpress inside of it. However because OS X Server's "websites" pane Auto fills the "server website" to have port 80 (and I can't seem to change it) I cant get MAMP to use port 80. It gives me the error attached by PNG to this post.
I've disabled OSX Server 'websites' and attempted to remove the "server website" entry but I can't get it to release the port binding.
Any help to get it to release ownership of port 80 would be most welcome.

Couple of options. If you don't want to use any of the Server.app features, you can throw it in the trash and reboot.
If you want to use some features, but nothing that uses apache, you could run:
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.apache.httpd.plist
The Server.app, when installed, will run apache on port 80 all of the time. No easy way around this without resorting to the command line.

  • OSX SERVER - Contacts server- migrating icloud contacts

hi folks, I am migrating away from storing any of my data in the cloud.
I have an osx server setup and want to migrate my contacts away from icloud contacts, and onto the osx contacts server only.
any advice on, whats the best way to go about this.
    thanks

If this helps this is what I have done now, having put together advice and hints from others with a little of my own knowledge.
Export each Calendar to a .ics file.
Install OS X Server on Macbbook Pro.
Set up a user on the server called syncuser with associated password.
Limited this user to access only Calendar and Contact services.
In Calendar app on Macbook connect to Calendar service via Preferences>Accounts.
In the left hand pane of Calendar there will now be an OS X Server section. Create a calendar to match each of your 'ON My Mac' calendars and import the relevant .ics file into each.
On the iPhone in settings>mail, contacts, calendars create a calendars account and enter the syncuser details. There should now be duplicate events if you elected to keep the original data on the iPhone. At the bottom of the screen there are now 3 links:- Today   Calendars   Inbox. I don't remember theses being there before.
If you navigate to a date other than today, touching Today takes you straight back to today.
Touching Calendars lets you choose which calendars to use, turn off the display of those 'From My PC' and you will be left with only the events synchronised from your mac.
Now in Contacts>Preferences>Accounts on the Mac create a contacts account using syncuser credentials again.
In the left hand pane of Contacts there will be an 'All OS X Server' section. The instructions I found (Ithink they were pre-Mavericks) said select all contacts in 'All On My Mac' and drag them to 'All on OS X Server' THIS DOES NOT WORK. Iinstead, go back to Contacts>Preferences>Accounts and create another contacts account just like before. This will create an 'All servername.home' section in the left pane and you CAN drag contacts to this.
I think the first one logs in to the server and exposes the services available and the second one connects to the contacts service.
Finally, back to the iPhone in settings>mail, contacts, calendars create a contacts account, you can keep the local data again, and in Contacts>Groups turn off 'All on My Phone'.
    That's it.
A suggestion for those who live away from access to internet services or who travel a lot, obtain a small wifi router and set up access to it from each of your devices, I would also limit access to it to the MAC address of each of your devices. You should now be able to sync locally over wifi wherever you are, you don't need to connect it to broadband. It's a pain having to carry another piece of kit rather than a cable but at least they are smalland if I am correct that this would work it solves the problem of local sync.
    Good Luck
    Chris.

  • How to customize mavericks' mac osx server apache configuration?

I have installed Mac OSX Mavericks Server and I would like to add some features to the Apache Server (gitolite, redmine, etc.) I've started with updating the httpd_server_app.conf file in/Library/Server/Web/Config/apache2 but unfortunately it has been overwritten by the server to its default. Maybe because I've updated something in the UI, or an update occurred... Anyway, I would like to know how can I update the configuration file in a permanent and persistent way, and still benefit the OSX Server UI and/or updates...
I've probably missed the big : "Put your own things here:" label...
PS: By the way, I wish to modify some of the current configuration, not only adding things...

If you scroll down through the standard httpd_server_app.conf file you will eventually find a section full of include options. (Some of which are commented out.)
One of these enabled include options is for /Library/Server/Web/Config/apache2/other/*.conf
The implication of this is that if you put your own httpd.conf file in the 'other' directory then any settings you put in it will be included in your Apache configuration and will not be over-written by Apple's Server.app software.

  • Why does OSX Server serve out Wikis so slowly?

    Hi,
I didn't see this topic so here's my question. I've got OSX server running and updated. I've installed Mediawiki and it works fine, but its very slow. When I've had other Web pages up, they are quick, but for some reason the Wiki is incredibly slow. So slow that when you post a change, it times out before refreshing. You can see the progress bar move half way (indicating the changes are saved), but then you sit and wait and it times out. If you go back and refresh the page, your changes are there.
I'm on a University Campus and have pretty good internet connection speeds. Our Tech support stated he heard Wikis are served slow on OSX and I'd need to do somethign to speed it up, but no idea what.
Its a G4 with a couple GB of RAM. Any questions to help me trouble shoot this I'll be happy to answer. I know Leopard is going to have the Wiki server, but I'd like to get this working before then!

I guess I am somewhat confused, and my real
concern is does plain old OSX really provide the
    basic server functions mentioned above
    out-of-the-box?
    Yes.
    Here is more
info about what "OS X Server" is. If you don't
know you need it, you probably don't:)
Microsoft isn't much better with naming, considering
I used to use MS Office at home to do
    schoolwork...
Yah, I'm a confused apple newbie, an old UNIX hacker, and I would like to learn more web type programming, so that is my interest in learning some new things.
    Thanks for the answer.
