[OT] EuroTAAC is ON

Just a quick note to confirm that EuroTAAC is definitely on
this year. We've
reached our break even point, so no more worries about
pulling out.
We'll be updating the web site over the next few days, as we
know that the
conference information is unclear at the moment. Watch this
space for some
more news.

  • OT: EuroTAAC is getting closer!

Just a quick note to remind you all that EuroTAAC is in
    Denmark this year,
and that things are taking shape at last.
We have posted an updated schedule (still subject to
    revision).
Prospective attendees will no doubt be concerned that we may
    be forced to
cancel the conference, as happened last year. Response so far
    has been very
positive as we reach out to attendees outside of the
    Authorware community.
This means that we need only a few more attendees signed up
    by the start of
next month in order to be able to guarantee the conference
    will NOT be
    cancelled.
So if you want to be in no doubt about the future of
    EuroTAAC, please be
sure to make your conference booking as soon as possible.
Oh - and the good news is we have secured very generous
    sponsorship from
Adobe, and other significant sponsors have approached us.
Check out www.eurotaac.com today and see what is in store for
    your eLearning
    needs.

New features for InterConnect interoperability with the rest of the Oracle Integration and SOA stack are being added to the upcoming 10.1.2 Phase 2 release. InterConnect provides application and data integration for a hub and spoke model where the hub is in the Oracle database. BPEL provides comprehensive orchestration, workflow and data/app integration on the mid-tier. In 10.1.3, Oracle SOA will expand with new mid-tier based ESB functionality such as standalone adapters, configurable routing service and service relationship view. Hope this helps.

  • Flash in AW sound plays but no picture

I've googled for this but haven't found any definitive
    answer.
I have a subroutine which plays flash files through the flash
xtra. It works fine but for the 3 files in which there has been an
mp3 embedded (to time the animation to the sound) - the sound plays
fine but i get one line of the picture only near the bottom and it
    doesn't play the anim.
I have tried the same procedure with a fresh file - just
having the flash xtra and loading the anim into it directly with
"browse..." but with the same result. The anims play fine from the
media folder tey are located in, playing in Firefox or IE.
Any suggestions? Using Flash MX, AW 6.5 and Mp3s.
    Thanks in advance

Once it goes out on NNTP there's no updating it .... I'll
    only ever see your

When you view the Flash file as standalone ... outside a
    browser, then
right-click and Show All, what do you see?
Wild guess ... maybe you have something off at the top of the
    Flash movie
that's pushing it down the screen???

  • Memory Full in String

    Hi guys,
I'm loading some data from a database into a string. No
problems until yesterday, when it seems to stop at a certain point.
There IS more data in the DB than is being displayed, it just gets
    so far and stops.
The size of the DB has been increasing all week as students
    type more stuff in.
I suspect that the authorware string can only store a limited
number of charactors read from the DB? If thats the case, is there
any way I can increase this amount?
    TIA

    limited number of

    > increase this amount?
No, but you can decrease the amount of data returned by
    modifying your
database query ... return first 50 records for instance ...
If you are not already doing so, look at using stored queries
    in the
database, that way you can control what goes on without
    having to edit your
    Authorware file.

  • Can you change where an icon will appear on the stage?

I'm using A/ware 6. I'm using DISPLAYICON to make an icon

Is there a way of requesting an icon's content appear at a specific
X/Y location on the stage rather than where it is located in the
    icon? Thanks

Create 2 variables - ImageX and ImageY.
Open your Display icon, and set it's Positioning field to On
    Screen.
Type ImageX in the X location. ImageY in the Y location.
You can now set the variables in your code, at any point
    before you display
your icon. The icon will appear in the position specified by
    your variables.

  • XPAAJ library export file attachment annotation problem

    Hi,
I'm using XPAAJ library to export annotations contained in a PDF file to XFDF file. The files which have fileAttachmentAnnotations cannot be exported to XFDF and is giving the exception pasted below. Is there any known issue in XPAAJ library that it doesn't work with FileAttachmentsAnnotations?
The exception stack trace is given below

Is there any other product (any adobe or other for that matters) i can use to accomplish the export annotation task. Note that I wouldn't like to use Acrobat SDK or Assembler as they have this ability.
Any suggestion would help a great deal.
    Thanks

The answer to the first part is that GetIconContents will
    return:
    #type:#linkedIcon
However, I am pretty sure it is not possible to automatically
    'select'
the library version in this way.

  • Playing local authorware files in IE 7

I cannot play published Authorware files in the Internet
Explorer 7 from my local computer. I get error messages "invalid
map files etc". The published files play correctly in a local

solves the problem? Normally I like to test the files on my

There is no local setting, as such. What you must do is
    reference the aam
file as a literal folder path - File://c:/work/test.aam
    (that's not quite
right, the File:// should be a little different), instead of
    the default
relative reference that is used by Authorware.
Alternatively, I think you can still test by clicking on the
    aam file
    instead of the htm ...

  • Can I Preload External MPGs?

I have a lengthy piece that uses a lot of external MPGs in
addition to embedded content. It's fine on my development machine,
but I just viewed it with the client on their plant network and the
    movies took
forever to load. I'd put a "Loading" animated GIF in-between
them, but it didn't animate and, even if it had, the piece really
    drags through those loads.
Is it possible to pre-load the next MPG while one is playing?
If so, how? Also, is there some trick to getting an animated
"Loading" graphic to play while the next movie is loading?

WMV files are played in the movie icon via the Windows Media
    Player ActiveX
control. On some machines there is an unavoidable delay while
    the AX control
initialises as it loads up the movie for playing. It has been
    a source of
    frustration for me for years!
You can try hiding it off screen, then use a zero-second
    motion icon to move
it back on screen as the movie starts to play. On many
    machines this appears
to happen cleanly, but on others you will see a momentary
    black flash as the
movie begins to play. Seems to be a hardware thing that's not
    controllable
by us. You may find the momentary black flash more preferable
    though. You
could, for instance, put up a black box with "Please Wait,
    Loading". The
text disappears just as you move the video back on screen.

  • Best file types to use

I am currently building a presentation file for a company.
They have a wide range of spec PCs that they would view the
presentation on and I want to ensure that they can view it smoothly
even if they are viewing it on a PC that is years and years old
with very little RAM and graphics power.
So, there must be a prefered file type that people tend to
save in whether it be .JPG , .BMP etc for images or .AVI , .MPEG
etc for video. Is there a better file type to be using to ensure
the presentation works well on every (well almost) computer?
Also are there any image properties that I should avoid, such
    as alpha masking?
Finally Flash. What is the best way to save and create a
Flash file that can be viewed best on any PC?
Publishing. I have had problems with this before. Should
files be imported into the presentation or left external? Any tips
    as for this?
Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

    this?
Are you asking only about Flash or about Authorware too?
I've been building Authorware courses for almost 10 years. In
    all that time,
jpg and bmp have been fine, and that's going back to 133MHz
    Win 95 laptops
with 16 Mb RAM and 1 Mb graphic cards. If you think you are
    delivering to
such ancient, steam-driven machines then avoid png and avoid
    alpha
    transparency, avoid Flash in Authorware.
Otherwise, if your oldest machine is, say. Pentium 600 MHz,
    64 Mb RAM, 8Mb
graphics running Win 98, you should be fine with png graphics
    and simple
Flash animations, but probably best to avoid both on screen
    at the same
    time.
Otherwise, give us a better idea of what you think your
    oldest, worst
    machines will be.
Oh - note that Authorware 7 content isn't even recommended
    for Win 95 -

1, Uncheck that silly Full Screen option. It does not do what
    the name
    suggests, and never has done.
2, Use center on Screen instead
3, Authorware cannot and will not rescale to fit your users'
    screen
settings. If you want that kind of setting you should use
    something other
than Authorware. Flash or Director are good choices for that.
If you still want to resize the window, then use the function
    ResizeWindow,
but you will find that your content does not rescale, so you
    will be back to
your content sitting top-left of the screen.
Finally, you can use the old workaround of utilizing Cover
    u32 to cover the
are of the screen not used by your application. It will set
    the rest of the
desktop to black, essentially framing your application. Check
    your
Authorware CD for Cover.u32, where you will find an example
    file too.

  • AWP and "Mark Of The Web"

I'm trying to add the "mark of the web" to the pages that run
the web player and it causes the web player not to run for me. All
I get is an outline box where the player should be. If I take that
code out, it works as normal. Any ideas?

I never found that useful for Authorware content.
What problem are you trying to fix by using this?
