Outlook 2010 RTM - Hide Message Headers

Good Day,
I pulled down Office 2010 RTM from TechNet last night, uninstalled the beta version, installed RTM.  One thing that I'm noticing with Outlook is that, unlike the beta, I'm unable to hide message headers within the preview pane.  If I go to the
view tab on the ribbon, then click View Settings | Other Settings ... then put a check in the "Hide header information" box, click OK | OK ... the change doesn't stick, headers are still visible.  Anyone else experiencing this?  Any known
workaround?
Regards.

Hi gabe,
I hope that when you say, “We are tracking that change to remove it for a later update...” you’re saying that what will
be removed is the lack of a hide header feature and not the removal of the hide header interface. It’s just a bad an ill conceive feature to remove in the first place.
After spending several days of trying to find a solution or workaround I deleted my Outlook 2010 and purchased OL2007 just for this feature.
Unfortunately OL2006 caused problems with Office 2010 so I returned for a refund and repurchased OL2010. This resulted in a week of trouble shooting, a waste of my time as well as the time of techsupport personnel at Dell and the retail store where I purchased
the Dell, and the Microsoft Office online store. The whole process also used up 600 of my cell phone rover minutes.
I’m not disclosing the above for sympathy but just to let Microsoft know what the consequences are to a bad idea to drop the hide header
feature. It should be optional as it always has.

I just performed an upgrade from office 2007 enterprise to office professional plus 2010 today (I am running Windows 7) and I keep getting this error:

It happens when I reply to an email.  The addresses are in the format which outlook 2003 and 2007 have been using
    Webb, Sydney A <[email protected]>
I notice that if I simply type the address:
    [email protected]
    it will send fine.
I also notice, the format for contacts has changed to Webb, Sydney A ([email protected])
    () instead of <>
i assume that is what is causing the issue, but all of my incoming emails are marked with the old style, so when I hit reply I have to retype the addresses every time(even for the same contact on following email replies).  I am sending via POP3(gmail
account in PST is default), but I do have an exchange account configured which I occasionally connect to.
any ideas on how to change the incoming format of messages so the sender's address is in the new format?
I would greatly appreciate any help.

I too updated from 2007 to 2010 and couldn't send group emails.  After reading many of the suggestions here, I discovered a simple solution. I simply clicked on the outlook contact, opened up the file in the address book, and changed the display name.
I had some addresses that were listed under "display" like this:  John Doe ([email protected]). I changed each of those in the display field to read either John Doe or Doe, John.  I saved the contact and continued.
Note:  I discovered this problem in sending out group emails.  So I opened the groups one by one.  Then I scanned down the list of displayed names, and clicked on any with the combination of name and address to them as an outlook address card.
In the card, I changed the display name, and then clicked "update" to update the list with the new listing.  Sometimes after updating, the display name had not changed.  Hmmm... I noticed that there were two kinds of card icons to
the far left of the displayed name.  With the lighter-appearing icon, changing did not work.  I had to delete the individual person in the group, and then re-add them by clicking "add member." Now they had disappeared in the listing.  So
I clicked "advanced find."  There I put in their names or a portion of the email address, and found them quickly.  Then I double clicked on the correct listing to add the person back into the group.
At that point, the icon to the left of the displayed names had changed to a darker icon like the majority of my members, and clicking on the name to open the file worked, as did changing the display name.  Then when I clicked "update", I had
the correct display name.  The changes stuck.  I think perhaps the lighter-appearing icon were adds to the group that I had not added to my outlook address book, but only to the group email.  It was so long ago that I added these members originally
that I have no idea any more.
So now we know two things:  Display the name only, or display the email address only.  Both work.  Just don't display the combination with parentheses.  I wondered if perhaps the Outlook 2010 couldn't find that kind of listing referenced
in the outlook address book, and that's what is causing this hangup?
I hope this helps someone save a lot of time and irritation.  It was a fairly easy fix.

  • Outlook 2010 not deleting messages from Deleted Messages

I have Outlook 2010 standalone on a 64-bit Win Pro system.  I have settings to empty Deleted Messages at exit and to delete messages from the server when downloaded by this instance of Outlook (POP3).
BUT ... when I exit Outlook, I get the dialogue about ok to delete messages, I accept deletion, and when I restart Outlook, not only are the messages back in the Deleted Messages folder, but the messages I deleted in the last session are back in the Inbox
and Junk Email folders!  Manually emptying the Deleted Messages folder does not solve the problem.
And yes, I have checked that I have my POP3 settings in Outlook correctly set.

    Could you just check this?
In Outlook 2010 Click the File tab, Click Account Settings, Click on account settings again, Hightlight existing email account, click change, click more settings..., click Advanced tab, in Delivery section uncheck box "Leave a copy of message on the server.",
click OK, click next, after test email has been sent click close, click finish

I just spent the morning fixing this problem on Outlook 2007.  I have no idea why it started,
since I hadn't upgraded any Outlook or Apple software recently.  Maybe it was the latest batch of Windows 7 updates?  The solution was to enable and check both the iTunes and
iCloud add-ins in the Trust Center.  FYI, here's how I arrived at that conclusion:
I tried disabling all add-ins and re-enabling them one by one, but that didn't fix the problem.  I upgraded iTunes, but still no joy. I noticed that neither the iTunes nor iCloud add-ins were checked in Outlook (they hadn't been for months, maybe years).
I tried disabling both but that didn't help.  I tried removing them, but that didn't work, either (and I had to figure out how to add them back in).  Finally, I tried enabling and checking them both. That did it.
FYI, I don't use iCloud to sync my data.  I tried that once and it destroyed my Outlook calendar.

    Michael Dodds

    Hi,
"Sever error 550" usually happens when you try to use an SMTP server that you do not have permissions to send through. Please try to enable the
SMTP authentication and try again. To do this, click File > Info > Account Settings > Account Settings > Double-click your IMAP account > Click
More Settings button > In the Internet Email Settings
wizard, click on "Outgoing server" tab and tick "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and select “Use same settings as my incoming mail server”.
Click OK and follow the wizard to finish the change.

  • Can't properly Import messages from WLM to Outlook 2010

I have installed windows 7 ultimate (32 bit) edition in my system, also I installed MS Office 2010 Professional Plus.
I used Outlook Express as my email client for last 10 years, and hence I have huge mail storage to import to Windows7. I’ve decided to use Outlook as my email client now on.
I have successfully imported all my OE messages to Windows Live Mail in my Windows7 system, and now I want to import them to Outlook2010. But when I try to import them from Outlook – it can’t see any messages to import. And when I export it from
WLM, most of the (but NOT all) messages exported to Outlook, but when I open the exported messages from Outlook I see the ‘Internet headers’ are blank for all the messages.
I am digging my head for last 1 week to resolve this issue but found no fix, can anyone help me please!
    Thanks in advance.
    ~Sanjoy

You need to export from WLM and yes, the headers will be blank.  If you have an old computer with OE on it, you can export to Outlook then move the pst to the new computer.
Diane, I just purchased Outlook 2010 and have a serious issue with losing the header information when exporting data from
Windows Mail. It seems that Microsoft recently fixed this problem (partially) which I found referenced on a different site. I went to the control panel (I'm using Vista), and ran Windows Update. After updating both the Important and the Optional items, I went
into Outlook 2010 and imported my mail and contacts from Windows Mail. The header information does now import correctly. However, in WM there is a column which shows you from which of your accounts an email arrived. In Outlook it's called "Category". This
information remains lost after the migration, and the entire column is empty (though new emails that are downloaded do get tagged properly). Can you tell me how to re-import my messages without losing this information? Would using your workaround of importing
the files into an earlier version of Outlook solve this problem? If so, which version should I use?

  • Either there is no default mail client of the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request-----error Outlook 2010

I've tried EVERYTHING suggested in this link (http://blog.timolthof.com/outlook-no-default-mail-client-error/) and everything google and bing and still this message keeps popping up.  Now when I do a windows search for email, I'm not able to view
the email due to this message.
For the record, I am running W7 Ultimate x64 and connected via Excange Server.  I do have another system that is running Office 2010 with none of these problems so I don't know if it's related to Exchange though the searches I've done don't allude
    to that.
    What's up?

    Hi,
I understand that when you tried to open Outlook 2010 beta on the Windows 7 64-bit computer, you encountered the following error:
"Either there is not default mail client of the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and
set it as the default mail client."
You have checked the settings under the registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Clients\Mail\Microsoft Outlook
I understand the inconvenience you have encountered and appreciate the time and effort you spent on this issue. Please be assured that I
will try my best to help you.
Now let’s troubleshoot the issue by the suggestions below. Please check the results after each suggestion until the problem is resolved.
Suggestion 1: manually set Outlook 2010 as the default e-mail client on Windows 7:
    ===================
    1.
    Click Start.
    2.
    Type "default programs" in the
    Search box.
    3.
    Click Default Programs under
    Programs in the search results.
    4.
Now click Set your default programs.
    5.
Highlight Microsoft Outlook on the left.
    6.
Click Set this program as default.
    7.
    Click OK.
Suggestion 2: Start the Outlook program in safe mode
    ==============
    1.
Click Start, point to All Programs, and then point to
    Microsoft Office.
    2.
Press and hold the CTRL key, and then click the Outlook program you want to start.
If the problem does not occur in the safe mode, this issue might be related to some third-party add-ins in the Outlook program, we can try
to disable them. Normally, you could do the following to disable the conflict add-ins in your Outlook program:
    Disable add-ins
    Click
    File menu, click Options >
Add-in, click Go button in the Manage:
    Com-in Add.
Check if there are any add-ins,
clear the checkbox to disable them.
    Close the Office program and
    restart it.
Add one check back each time to the list of Add-In,
restart the Office program, and repeat the above procedure. Once the issue reappears again, we can determine which add-in causes this problem and then disable it.
Suggestion 3: Test the issue with a new Windows user account
    ==============
We can follow the steps in the articles to create a new user account to test the issue. If the problem does not occur in the new user account, some settings
in the old account are corrupted. We can copy the main user files from the old account to the new account, delete the old account, and then continue using the new account.
For the detailed steps on how to create a new user account and copy data from the old account to the new account, you can refer to the following articles:

'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

  • Exchange2010/Outlook 2010 text message sync - can this be turned off at a policy level?

It is possible to turn off this feature in the activesync policy on the phone itself, but can this be disabled at a policy level so that any Windows Mobile 6.5 devices cannot sync text messages to the Exchange server or send text messages from Outlook 2010?
We have removed the text message feature from OWA using the set-owavirtualdirectory command, but cannot see a way of removing this feature completely from activesync.  Is this not possible for Windows Mobile devices synching with Outlook 2010?

    Hi,
Im not sure if somebody in this forum already provided the answer.. To be able to stop the text message sync with outlook for SAMSUNG S3, you can disble it by following this steps:
    1) Go to your phone Settings
    2) Select "Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync" under "Accounts"
    3) Select "Settings"
    4) Select the account you are using in microsoft exchange
    5) Scroll down until you reach "Server Settings" then untick "Sync SMS"
Once done, your SMS messages will now never be going to your outlook's inbox.
    Hope this helps.

  • Message recall from shared mailbox greyed out Outlook 2010

    Hello,
Can anyone advise if it's possible to recall a message sent from a shared mailbox? The user has full access permissions to the shared mailbox but the 'recall this message' option is greyed out.
We have installed the hotfix below but it says the update is already installed on the system?
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2475877/en-gb
    This is using Windows 8, Outlook 2010 32bit and Exchange 2007 SP3.

    Hi,
Try to remove and grant the user the permission to the shared mailbox again to see if the issue still exists.
This issue should have been fixed by kb2475877, please also make sure Office is patched up to date.
We can try with a new profile to setup the account, check if the issue persists:

  • Can't sync 8330 to Outlook 2010. Keep getting error message.

I just got outlook 2010 and am trying to set up my 8330 to sync with it. I cannot sync the address book and the calendar because I keep getting  an intellisync error message that says "One or more configured folders is not available. Update folder mapping and try again." When I click on Configure settings>advanced> with the check box in Calender clicked I get a message that says "No available message stores." I click OK and then the advanced settings pop up. When I click on Map Field I get an error message. "Error encountered. Error code - 0x82bc1095. Check documentation."
I have been trying for several hours to figure this out. The only way I can get it to sync is when I change the MultiJobTraceLog value to 200 and the TifLog Value to 100 in the iloptcfg file as instructed in one of the RIM help documents. And even then it only works the first time I sync after starting BB desktop software 6.0 and plugging in my phone.
