Overview NetWeaver architecture

Hi!
I would like to have a short overview presentation of the NetWeaver architecture. It should be just an overview and it should be used by a non familiar SAP person (it should not be too technical). Including stuff like:
- The client/server architecture
- The hardware prerequisites
- The use of application servers and how its done
- Different client techniques and device that can be used/connected
- Integration platforms
Im looking for a eLearning course or an presentation (ppt). I have tried to find something on the SDN but have not been lucky yet. It should not be just a slide of the architecture, it should be a presentation that explain the architecture.
Does this kind of overview presentation exists?
I would be really glad if someone had any idea or advice to give.
Thanks in advance
Fredrik

    Hi,
    I would suggest three sources;
SAP NetWeaver master guide: can be downloaded from service.sap.com/instguides --> SAP NetWeaver --> SAP NetWeaver 7.0 --> installation --> planning.
    SAP NetWeaver help: help.sap.com
SAP NetWeaver developers guide: you can find this on the link of the SDN home page.

  • Evolution of SAP Netweaver

    Hi All,
I am new to this SAP Netweaver platform.I have come from Java background and currently engaged in SAP EP.To me SAP is an ERP system consisting huge number modules.SAP can be run in simple client server mode.Like I have a client installed in my system for a specific module which communicates to  an SAP server. This can also be resolved by making the client browser compliant. Now I think earlier version of SAP worked like this. Now please enlighten me what SAP Netweaver provides. How has SAP Netweaver  evolved from its predecessor ? When does a company opt for implementing SAP Netweaver?
Though this seems to be very basic question but still i am not able to get any document  that can help beginners  like me. Please also try to provide  documents or urls  that can resolve my question.

    Hi,
    >SAP is an ERP system.
Wrong ! SAP is a software company which sells many different application softwares. SAP ERP is one of them like CRM, SRM, PI, EP and so on.
Netweaver is a technology platform on which the application softwares run.
In fact there are 2 different Netweavers : The ABAP Netweaver Application Server and the J2EE Netweaver   Application Server which are also called the ABAP stack and the Java stack.
Some application softwares need only one stack (ECC6 needs the abap stack, EP needs the Java stack), some needs both stacks like PI.
You can get an overview of the Netweaver architecture for both stacks here :

  • Career Path with SAP Netweaver

    Hi SDN Gurus,
This is a generic question around career guidence: What should be the typical/practical career graph for a person who intends to work around SAP Netweaver?
Initially, when I started my career, I was put into SAP XI, which I learnt with some enthusiasm and kind of became a fanatic towards the concept of ESOA and Integration. But later I found out that just learning SAP XI isn't enough, I realized that to actually be able to position SAP XI as a solution, I need to understand the whole netweaver architecture and also understand the functionalities of the Systems that will be integrated thtough Netweaver. So I wanted to have an understanding of how ERP works; kind of shifted to functional and worked in Some Retail Projects with SAP Retail, alongside XI. Now I understand, to a fair extent, the functionality of ERP and what benefits can it provide to the business. So, in short, I have XI skills, I functionally understand ERP, I know what can be technically done through ABAP (having done some of the coding myself); Now I want to leverge all these knowledge in positioning the entire Netweaver Platform as a solution to the business. For that, I need a functional understanding of the business problem solving capabilities of Netweaver and a Technical understanding of the Netweaver Architecture for enabling the same. For this, where do I start? How do I grow? I know SDN is the best place to start-off, definitely, but I am just looking for some guidence.
If any of you Gurus can provide me the guidence, that will be of much help.
    Thanks in anticipation!!!
    Sincere Regards,
    Amitabha

    Hi Asif,
Given your educational background, SAP CRM(Customer Relationship Mgmt) & SAP SRM will be a good choice for you to pursue your career in SAP.
Please check out blogs in this community site to have a detailed formal knowledge on these modules.

Generally in R/3 architecture if we want to write the coding we can use se38 or se80.
What about netweaver architecture abap coding?. i have little bit of idea about this but still i am not sure about this part .So please lemma now how is if anybody have any idea about this.
In netweaver architecture we have two enginee parts J2EE AND ABAP. this is my question how we can write the coding in netweaver abap?.

  • E-Recruiting 3.0 Installation - Techical Architecture

    Hello,
We are in the process of installing E-Recruiting 3.0 SP11 on ECC 5.0 running on the WAS.  It seems that for the standard install there are a series of other components that need to be installed and setup.  These items include:
-TREX - Search engine - Separate server install
-KPRO - Content server - Separate server install
There is also the question of connecting the system with internal web sites and external web sites.
We are looking for an overview or architecture diagram of the installation, the total components involved and other technical incite or document that can be provided.  We are trying to get an idea of the technical scope of the project and it seems to keep expanding as we discover new components.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
Did you check in the SAP Service Market Place? There are a lot of PDF documents which might be useful to you. Please <a href="https://websmp101.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01200252310000064849&">Check</a> it out.

  • Java in Netweaver

In what way, Java is used in Netweaver? Need some good links for netweaver tutorial.

    Hi Aarti
First of all welcome to SDN Network and now about your question.
There are many fields you can work with. Java development is used in various components of SAP Netweaver. You can also look to the EP Content Development area on SDN if you are ineterested in Enterprise portal development using Java. Else Java programming is used in various different application development. There is Java development area in Netweaver Developer studio in Java perspective. You can also use J2ee perspective for making J2ee applications. There are Various API provided by SAP which you can use to interact with various components of Netweaver.
    > Why do we need two different engines defined in the diagrams explaining the SAP Netweaver architecture?
I have once answered this question earlier. Please refer to the link:
    1) https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/collaboration.sdn?contenttype=url&content=https%3A//forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa%3FforumID%3D59%26threadID%3D50978%26messageID%3D524024%23524024

If you are interested in the things like web developement then you can work in Web Dynpro (used in UI development and provide a wonderful way of Web Development, Based on MVC architecture).
There is few more options. What you have to work on depends on you:
    1) You can work in simple JSP and J2EE applications.
    2) Portal Project using HTMLB in JAVA (JSPDynPages).
    3) BSP(Business Server Pages), this interact with SAP system very effectively.
You can do UI(User Interface) development using all these Option and use various techniques for integrating with backend R/3 system.

  • Architecture of Oracle BPM

    Hi All,
I'm writing MA Thesis on BPM systems. I'm comparing some implementations that support BPMN2.0.
    1. What I need is the Oracle BPM archtecture overview.
1.1 What elements are a part of this product
1.2 What elements build the infrastructure nessesary to use Oracle BPM
    2. What are ways to use Oracle BPM in my sample j2ee application. I wont to have my own interface and update state of processes and make some of the application parts get notified when process state reaches some point, etc. Is all written in http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/integration.1111/e10224/bp_workflow.htm#BACHEFDH ???
I suppose all that info is on documentation pages of Oracle SOA Suite and Oracle BPM Suite. The problem is I would need to dig through ALL that documencation to choose only parts that I need. I do not wont to become Oracle products expert, that comes in future not now:)
So I kindly ask You to help me finding the range of documencation and it's chapters that would give me a good Overview of Architecture and possible integrations of Oracle BPM 11g, I need BPMN2.0 working:)
    Thx to All that reply.

  • Advices required for a JAWT implementation for Windows Mobile 5 and 6

    Hi,
I want to create a jni bridge in order to open a player in a java Frame. This player works fine in a mobile native application.
I want to know if somebody tried already to create such a bridge keeping in mind that this is for mobile environment. If yes, is there some specific problems which I should be aware of?
    Specifically I have 2 problems.
    1. My jni getHWND method always return 0.

Any advice will be very helpful.

    Hello Brian,
the client technology is based on web dynpro, but it runs in an own Mobile Client. Therefore you do not need the internet browser for the application.
During the client development you can use the web dynpro tools to design the layout and the screen flow of your application. In the last step you can deploy the application to your mobile client and run it without a browser.
The mobile client includes a web dynpro runtime to display the data. Therefore you do not need a J2EE server in order to run an application.
The mobile occasionally connected scenario provides a api to access the local database. NetWeaver Mobile 7.1 for PDA supports two different databases:
    1. MinDB ( from SAP, included no additionals license fee required )
    2. DB2E
NetWeaver Mobile includes a complete queing mechanism.
You can also take a look into two eLearnings which provide a good technical overview:
    Link:  [Architecture and Runtime|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/e048e20c-7246-2a10-e8a5-8b2b78b5b994]
    Link: [Development Cycle and Tools|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/204fc387-6646-2a10-99b7-bba030bc3f68]
Unfortunetly there is no fixed timeline for WM6.But I guess this will be available soon.
I'm afraid but also don't know of any fixed timeline regarding Adobe Interactive forms.
The architecture of NetWeaver Mobile 7.1 is pretty new and full of great new functionalites. The User Interface for NetWeaver Mobile 7.1 uses eSWT to render the UI elements.
    Best Regards,
    Stefan
