OVM3: Discovery OVM servers cause OVM servers to crash

This is a fresh installation. After installed and upgraded OVM Manager 3.0.2, the first thing to do is to discover servers. And once the discovery job start, the target OVM servers will crash and reboot.
Can someone please share some thoughts how to solve/debug this? Thanks!

I had the same issue with my OVM servers running on UCS. Each time I would try to discover them; they would kernel panic and reboot.
I ened up loading ESXi on the UCS blades then installing OVM server on top of that. I was using 3.0.1. I have not tried with 3.0.2 yet.We don't support OVM on top of ESXi, but there is a known issue with the UCS blades and their configuration: you need to lock something in the firmware of UCS so that it doesn't keep recreating the SMBIOS ID of the machine. I'd contact Oracle Support for more details, because I don't have the exact fix.

  • Can proxy servers cause malfunction to Hyperion 931 server performance?

How does Hyperion system9 server software (IR/ PR/ Workspace/ Core/ HSS/ Planning) know which proxy server to use? And is there as place/ setting/ parameter to define one?
As a Technical Engineer of our Hyperion software I frequently argue with our network techies about (unclear and undescript changes to) ISA servers, proxyservers, webwashers, authenticating issues, etc. Their last change was a switch off from a old deprecated proxyserver. Now all our network traffic has to follow the new proxyserver. All company browsers are set up with a proxy wpad.dat configuration file. Browsers can perfectly deal with such setting. Also java applications on clients can be set up with a proxy configuration file (or set to use browser setting).
But what about the Hyperion Server components? How does the software know which proxy server to use?
Example: workspace servers communicate with Core server to “drop” its logs in a central place. Does this traffic go via proxies?

Your title is can proxy servers cause a malfunction -- of course if they are not working properly they could cause issues.
Your message body asks about workspace/core services -- internal Hyperion to Hyperion communications are all direct and not via proxy which means you usually have to open firewall ports between servers if they have a firewall between them.
In your example workspace communicates to core services on ports in the 68XX range and those specific ports most be open.

  • Lost connection between ovm-manager and ovm-server (ovm 3.1)

    Hi,
I have a manager as a VM on my laptop and a physical server as an ovm-server. Everything is fine when i boot the server but after some time, the manager stop to show the information from the server. in the ovs-agent log file the following messages are repeated regulary
[2013-08-29 13:06:19 6160] DEBUG (notification:289) Trying to connect to manager.
    [2013-08-29 13:06:20 6160] DEBUG (notification:291) Connected to manager.
[2013-08-29 13:06:20 6160] ERROR (notification:316) No manager Core API server object for 10:60:4b:88:bc:24:10:60:4b:88:bc:25:fe:ff:ff:ff.
    [2013-08-29 13:06:34 6171] ERROR (notification:64) Unable to send notification: (111, 'Connection refused')
I did not reboot neither the server nor the manager. No IP change. Rebooting the manager has no effect.
The only way to restore communication is to restart the ovs-agent on the server, but this restart disable the network card. I must be physical on the server to restart the network.
any help will be very helpful

    Hi,
The are many steps to verify:
Verify with your firewall on the Oracle VM Manager system (service iptables stop).
Verify with a ping between OVM Manager and OVM Server using the IP Address and using the hostname for each one (from OVM Manager : ping ovm-server ; and from OVM Server: ping ovm-manager).
I hope this can help you

  • Administration for Servers No Content Servers Found.

When I click on Admin server in Oracle content management server, Admin server page is getting loaded and I am getting "Administration for Servers
No Content Servers Found." message on admin server page. Please suggest

    For some reason...
The Admin Server can not find a list of Servers to manage. This could be because someone removed them via this interface or deleted them from the file system or...lots of other reasons probably.
There is an option to add servers which is basically a wizard. As long as you know the install directory this should be pretty simple.

  • How do we decide the number of data base servers and application servers ?

    Dear Gurus,
How do we decide the number of data base servers and application servers in BW ?
How does this number help in data load balance and reporting needs ?
Any hard n fast rule in the number of servers ?
    Regards
    Mohan

    Hi Mohan,
Check the number of application server in the T-code SM66.... and also u can check the it in Sm50 on appplication server basiss./.
From Sm37 u can see the application server Push button.. if u click on that also.. u can see the number of application servers in the system..
Get into the individual application server and check how many Dialogue and background WP's are free,,
If u see that the considerable number of WP are free(Waiting for task).. then u can shedule the loads..
If most of the WP are  busy then u need to wait to trigger ur loads to maintain the load balancing..
If one Application server is too busy then u can check the other Application Servers in the systems..
And u can shedule the loads on a specific application sever level as well using the PC..
    Thanks
I hope this is clear to u..

  • SYNC TIME ON APPLICATION SERVERS AND DATABASE SERVERS

    Our case is:
We have system used for north america (NA) and system used for Europe (EUP).
North American users are using NA systems (say P510 system), Europe users are using EUP systems (say P710 system). The system time on NA systems are EDT, the system time on EUP systems are CEST
    for exmaple:
    NA systems:
    [CA096658@st1lx014 ~]$ date
    Tue Sep 29 20:45:31 EDT 2009
    EUP systems:
    [CA096658@st1lx008 ~]$ date
    Wed Sep 30 02:29:28 CEST 2009
P510 is the production system for NA, there are 4 application servers, 2 database servers, RAC, the system time show up on the os on these 6 servers are not sync, we want to sync the system time on these 6 servers to be the same EDT time. same thing to EUP systems, we want to sync the system time to be the same CEST time.
We need to change that at the unix level, my question is:
    1) do we need to change anything at the database and application level ?
    2) before we change the time at the unix level, do we need to shutdown application and database ?

    >
    1) do we need to change anything at the database and application level ?
    >
AFAIK, you do not have to change anything. EBS has the capability to perform timezone conversion. Pl see MOS Doc 330075.1 (User Preferred Time Zone Support Guidelines for Applications 11i10CU2)
    >
    2) before we change the time at the unix level, do we need to shutdown application and database ?

It is best practice to shut down all applications/databases before changing server time.

  • How many time to install/configure OVM Manager and OVM Server ?

    Hello,
I wish to have your experience feedback on the mean time needed to install both OVM Server and OVM Manager in a production environement, with e.g : 2 CPUs, 4 G of RAM, or for 4 CPUs and 8 G of RAM.
    Regards,
    Lionel

Not enough information. XE is not supported in a production environment so you will need to install a SE or EE version of Oracle Database. I would personally use EE because the Virtual Manager comes with a single use license that covers running the VM Manager on either edition. No extra cost to run EE over SE.
You can use kicstart to rapidly deploy any VM Server. If you get your scripting right... it takes less than 10 minutes.

  • RH8 causing other apps to crash?

    Hello -
I have a colleague (working in another office, so I can't really see this problem first hand) who is trying to install RH8 on a Win7/32 machine (new install, not an upgrade). A member of her IT dept is performing the install.
After the installation of the app and patches is finished, RH seems to work more or less normally (she's new to RH, so her sense of "normal" is rather limited at this stage).  The problem is that other applications lock up and crash (she mentioned MS Office apps in particular, but that could be because those are the ones she tends to use the most).
After un-installing RH, the other apps no longer crash.
I've recommended re-installing but skipping the "RoboHelp for Word" piece, but I can't think of anything else.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen a similar situation? I've found other threads that deal with RH crashing or the RH install failing, but I couldn't find any in which RH caused other apps to crash.
    Thanks,
    Dave

Hmm...I posted a reply via email, but it isn't showing up, so I'm pasting it in.
    Hi, Rick -
Thanks for the suggestions. Like some of the other threads I've found, these seem to deal mainly with RH crashes rather than other apps. But your first link possibly has some overlap as the menu issue it describes also pops up in a thread I found:
"RoboHelp 8 crashes on Windows 7"
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2955493#2955493
This thread includes a scenario in which Outlook and other apps are failing. Additionally, some users were having RH crashes related to the menu bug. Some users found relief by uninstalling source control, others did not. Finally, An Adobe employee posted a fix that corrects issues related to Oleacc.dll which helped some users.
To be thorough, I'll mention that the problems are occurring on a laptop (another thread traced RH crashes to a BioMetric service running on their laptop). And my colleague has the FoxIt PDF utility installed (I don't think this should be the issue here, but perhaps worth a mention.)
I'm going to suggest that they try:
1a. Check the registry to ensure traces of the previous RH install are gone.
1b. Reinstall but omit source control and RH for Word (I think you can skip these during install?  I'm no longer allowed to to perform my own installs, so I'm less familiar with the process than I once was.)
    2. Ensure patches are installed (version should be 8.02.208)
    3. If that doesn't work, try the Oleacc.dll fix.
    4. If that doesn't work, try another Win7/32 machine (preferably non-laptop).
    5. If all is well on the other machine, I guess it is time to start looking at which non-essential services might be causing a conflict.
    Regards,
    Dave

  • Help needed with identifying cause of Google Chrome crashes from a crash report

    Hello,
I am trying to isolate a problem which is causing Google Chrome to crash. This is happening far too frequently - sometimes on opening, sometimes on web page loads and sometimes when viewing the preferences page.
    I'm using a 2012 Mac Mini running OS X 10.8.4.
After many hours of trawling around the Internet and trying various suggestions, I am close to admitting defeat. Hopefully somebody here can save my sanity and point me towards a possible cause.
To date, these are some of the things that I have tried:
Replacing the 16GB of Crucial Ram with the stock Ram.
Logging in as a Guest user and opening Chrome.
Disabling all Chrome extensions (there are only 3 that I use anyway).
Uninstalling Chrome and all associated files that I could find, then reinstalling.
Booting into Safe Mode and loading Chrome.
None of these have made a difference. There have also been a couple of times when Firefox has crashed, too. Safari has been rock solid. Yes, I could just use Safari, but there are personal reasons why I need to use Chrome. I also need to locate this problem in case it is something that might effect other applications … or possibly even be a hardware problem.
Below is my most recent crash report. Frankly, it's contents are way outside of my comfort zone, so I am hoping that somebody will be able to help point me towards the relevant parts that might help me resolve this problem:

  • HT4759 on a pc running windows 7, whenever i try to add my computer to i tunes match, it causes i tunes to crash.  I have the latest i tunes software version, how can i fix this?

when i try to add my windows 7 pc to i tunes match, it causes i tunes to crash.  I know someone else has had this problem, please tell me how to fix it. I do have the latest version of i tunes software too.

You can authorise your account via the Store drop-down menu at the top of the iTunes screen - if you have iTunes11 then control-B should get the menus to show.

  • My iPod is Causing my PC to crash when I plug the iPod Touch in.

I've plugged my iPod Touch into my laptop (USB) port and it immediately caused my laptop to crash.
I allowed the PC to reboot and tried again in a different port with the same results.
Any suggestions as what may be the problem.
Never had a hint before that this might happen.
The iPod is only 2 months old.
    Thanks.

Thanks again for your interest in my problem AndrewT.
    Ok you mentioned three things:
    1. Uninstalling the ACER camera.
    2. latest version of iTunes and
    3. Printer.
Regarding the uninstalling the camera - I haven't done that but worth a try. When I initially plug the iPod in it comes up as a camera (not as an iPod as it should do). I don't use the camera a lot so maybe thats the way to try and see what happens.
Regarding the latest version of iTunes - yes I've got that no problem and regarding the printer - seldom used and hasn't been used since well before this problem came about.
I'm getting more convinced that its a Microsoft Update that's causing it. I read somewhere about this but can't remember where now.
I had to again reload all the software because of other problems i.e. back to original recovery, so while loading the new software I tried the iPod touch and yes it worked. However, with all reloading of sofware there was the usual updating and after loading a number of these updates together I tried again and as expected the blue screen again.
Needless to say I'm rather frustrated at this outcome but won't give up as yet.
Thanks for your continued interest. Maybe between us we'll get it solved. It doesn't appear that others have this problem and Apple Support have never heard of it.

  • What is causing my Mac to crash during the sleep mode?

    Hello!
I would to have your help on this situation that i am having for a month or so...  Ok... it started about a month ago, I turned it on and all of the sudden, it shut down, then rebooted on its own... (actually it rebooted like 3 or 4 times before running the system) I thought that it was odd.  I had my Tech to look over and see what was causing to crash and all... he could not find anything then we all decided to leave it running all time... so we did.  a week or two later, it just crashed when i woke the sleep mode and it went on the usual route as crashed and rebooted two or three times before going back to normal.
sound familiar to you guys?  after that happened, we turned off the sleep mode and so far, it is doing good...  decided not to update the system's Security software because it may have something to cause the mac to crash down...
    the mac is  2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 8 Gb 667 MHZ DDR2 FB-DIMM, running on 10.6.8
    appreciate your help on this.

One more thing....  it makes weird sounds as well... very high pitch sounds that you hear in movies where UFO flying by while it is doing the rebooting...

Copying text in a text callout (to paste into a text callout in another pdf document (3 instances of Adobe open) sometimes (only sometimes) causes the program to crash, losing unsaved work. This usually occurs if you use a browser that uses its own PDF viewer, not the Adobe Reader plugin; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html

  • 2nd HDD causes Qosmio G40 to crash

My C drive is fine and everything ok split into 2 partitions running Vista Premium.
2nd HDD causes the computer to crash with the following error message:
    0X00008086
    0X00000100
    0X000002B4
    0X00000001
    0X00000000
I have reinstalled everything wiped the disks and now the drive wont format
I have read that it could be a SATA problem but in the BIOS the ability to change the settings are not accessible.
My warranty ran out days before this failed so I cant get it done on it.
Before it went I used to be able to use it for a while and then something would trigger the blue screen, sometimes the laptop doesnt even see its there.
Can anyone throw any light on the problem?

How do you know the 2nd HDD is causing the crash?
If you remove the HDD, does it still crash?
Have you tried repairing the file systems on the 2nd HDD?
In a command prompt, run CHKDSK x: /F (where x; is the drive letter, such as D: )
Also test the HDD for bad sectors. DFT is a bootable CD with a HDD test. Boot from the CD and run the Advanced test
