Package in UML and Java

Is UML's package equivalent to Java package? If so, what Java counterpart is UML's component equivalent to?

After some surveys I find that
1. UML package is an "aggregation" of the inside class while Java package is not.
2. UML package has visibility modifiers while in Java , you have to implement package interface.
3. UML package can inherit another UML package
(MartinS, is the above what "isomorphic" you mean?)
To me, it is quite confusing, as I think a UML component can be implemented by a jar/war/zip, a java file which containing several classes, or a package in Java. And a UML package can also be implemented by jar/war/zip and package.
UML package and component are just high level or analysis model of the system while what you are selecting the Java counterparts to implement is a design choice.

Problem with JSP and Java Servlet Web Application....

Hi every body....
I av developed a web based application with java (jsp and Java Servlets)....
that was working fine on Lane and Local Host....
But when i upload on internet with unix package my servlets and Java Beans are not working .....
also not access database which i developed on My Sql....
M using cpanel support on web server

RSPOR_SETUP = Different ABAP and Java support packages.

We have an ECC 6.0 system with abap+java stacks. When we run the RSPOR_SETUP report we get this error:
Different ABAP and Java support packages. Combination of support packages invalid
And with some more clicking we find this:

On the Java stack we see (among others) these components:

Please be aware, that report RSPOR_SETUP should NOT be used with a Netweaver 04s system. This report has been replaced by the support desk tool. I request you to run the support desk tool as per note 937697 to check if there are any configuration issues in your system.You can resolve any red traffic lights that might be reported by the tool by following the corresponding actions suggested.

SOAP and Java within an Application Package

We are doing an integration with Oracle Content Server. We have successfully checked in reports by sending a SOAP with attachments message in the application package PSRF_REPORT_CREATE calling custom Java methods.
All is well, until we try and receive the SOAP response, in which nothing happens. After we call the checkin.SendMessage (our java method to checkin a report), we use the following generic PeopleCode insert statement just to test if the next line of the code is executing...
SQLExec("INSERT INTO UCM_CHECKINLOG VALUES (1234, 'test')");
This does not update our database, and it looks as if it is not even executing. We have also tried logging to a test file, but this fails to run as well. If it is directly after our soap request, why would it not run? Is there something we need to do to tell the system to wait for the response before commencing?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Just to make sure I understand the question... You customized the PSRF_REPORT_CREATE.CreateReport PeopleCode by adding some Java (JavaObject, etc). Is checkin your custom Java object with SendMessage being a method of that object? Are you using a Java SOAP client, like Axis2, to communicate with the Oracle Content Server or are you using Integration Broker? Again, just to verify, you are calling a Java method called "SendMessage." You can tell this is executing because you can see changes in your Oracle Content Server. However, as far as you can tell, no statements after that statement are executing. Is this correct?

I'm looking for a good book (or URL) regarding J2EE application design using UML... That is, I know a bit about Java and a little about OO principles but I don't know where to start in terms of putting what I know into practice.
Would be grateful for some advice - and thanks in advance!

"implementing a set of UML documentation" - you mean a complete design? Yes, it can be a lot of work, depending on how rigorous you want to be. (For example, doing a complete UI design will become quite a challenge, indeed.)
Fowler has some fine thoughts about UML and its uses. He says there are two schools of thought:
(1) Sketchers, or folks who use snippets of UML to communicate their ideas to others. These folks are used to working on sheets of paper and whiteboards, and
(2) "UML as blueprint" folks want to treat UML designs like engineering drawings. Their goal is to take a complete design and either throw it over the wall for implementation, much like engineering firms used to heave drawings over the wall to manufacturing departments, or pass it to a model driven development package that would parse the UML and spit out a complete code base.
I'm firmly in the sketchers camp.
I don't think heaving drawings over the wall has proven very effective for engineering and manufacturing firms. I don't think it will be much better for software firms. Engineering is guided by the laws of physics and 1000s of years of experience. Computer science and software development isn't nearly at that level yet.
If you can get some good class diagrams and capture your most important use cases as sequence diagrams I'd say you were making a fine start.

all we know that interfaces in java just a decleration for methods and variables.
so my Question is why when i create an interface its name is "Runnable" and i declared a method called "run" inside it.then when i implements this interface with any class don't do the thread operation but when i implement the java.lang.Runnable the thread is going fine.

thnxClasses and interfaces are not identified by just their "name", like Runnable. The actual "name" the compiler uses is java.lang.Runnable. So even if you duplicate the Runnable interface in your own package, it's not the same as far as the compiler is concerned, because it's in a different package.
Try importing both java.util.* and java.awt.* (which both have a class or interface named List), and then try to compile List myList = new ArrayList();

Why not Deprecate java.util.Date and java.util.Calendar

With the introduction of java.time, why did you not flag java.util.Date and java.util.Calendar. These classes have been a bane to every Java developer and should never be used again with the introduction of Java 1.8.

Adding the @Deprecated annotation would only just provide a warning about an old API and recommendation to the developer(s) to no longer use it. Doing so would not break any existing library out there; in fact quite a number of constructors and methods on the Date class have already been flagged deprecated.
The new java.time package is far superior to Date/Calendar.

Please help,I need to know the right tools and java technology to support what I need.
I had background programming in Assembly,C++,Visual Basic,SAP/ABAP 4.
All I can say, programming is about logic, now we are very helped building program using objects.
I'm very interest to SAP tech, where all screens, programs, reports are resides on tables, this is the real dynamic!
CUrrently I'm eager to do the same technic with java. I'm new to java....
What I know the J2EE is the core for me to start is it right? I was very interest with the Client-Server Tech. How can I impelemet this with Java?
I'm a bit confuse with so many java solutions. There is Java Applets, Swing, Java AWT, JavaBeans, etc...
I don't know what is the best if I want my Presentation/Client Application will run within browser (not standard html, using like windows gui). What should I do to make business logic objects, how to invoke it within the gui. how to make installation package whenever clients connect to the http server.
if you have a pointer to do it please let me know.... I'm very appreciate all your response...

I'd say - don't get carried away with the heavyweight frameworks. Don't use EJB if Hibernate and/or Tomcat will do the job. There's a danger of winding up using a bulldozer to crack a wallnut.
What people mean by "J2EE" varies a fair bit.
Start with Tomcat, which has the virtue of being free. Try some JSPs and servlets.
Use Applets to do client side presentation only if you must; Applets create an installation overhead on end-users, and some of them can't cope, while others may not have the necessary installation permissions on their office machines. They are pretty rarely needed, IMNSHO, most client-side behaviour is better handled with html and JavaScript.

OS X Lion DMG and Java Issues

I have a serious issue with my Lion installation. In the process of upgrading from Snow Leopard through 10.7 to 10.7.1 to 10.7.2 somewhere in there, Java got badly broken. I tried re-downloading Java for Lion and reinstalling but it gives me an idiot message that my OS version is not compatible. ***?
So I open the package with Pacifist and do an install to default location from the top of the package and all the Java stuff works again. But then within about three days I can no longer open DMG files. I double click them and nothing happens. Disk utility won't launch. If I reinstall the 10.7. combo update, Disk Utility works and DMG files open but if I try to connect to a streaming Java service such as used by Go To Webinar, I never get anywhere. So I am at the point where I can either work with DMG files OR I can use Go To Webinar but not both.
This is idiotic to me, but I cannot even begin to figure out why Java gets broken by applying an update and why my ability to work with DMG files keeps going away and if the two are actually related or there is just some weird timing juxtaposition.
Anyone who has seen this problem and figured out a solution, please wade in.

Well, the issue doesn't seem to be in your User since the Combo Update doesn't touch anything in your User Account. This being the case and assuming you have a backup of your account on another disk, I'd do a clean install of Lion. Then in Setup Assistant migrate over all your stuff.

Question: Handling of Kernelpatches under ABAP and JAVA

Hi everyone,
we download the current Kernelpatches (including the disp+work level 200, the SAPJ2EE and many other packages) from the SAPNET and manually copied the files to the following directories:
ABAP:
/sapmnt/<SID>/exe
/usr/sap/<SID>/DVEBMGS00/exe
JAVA:
/usr/sap/<SID>/SCS01/exe
The systems are running fine so far and after logging in to the ABAP stack it shows the current kernel level 200 ...
However if we run the JSPM it still shows us the old kernel level 180 ...
What's wrong here ?
How can we bring the JAVA Stack to a current level ?
What's the exact package needed here and where do we get it ?
And one more thing:
We found a strange and older dispwork we couldn't execute using "dispwork -V" under
/sapmnt/<SID>/exe/uc/rs6000_64
What exactly is it good for ?
Do we have to update this one too ?
What would be the correct packages here ?

I do not think that you get a good answer on this question in this forum. Your questions are on the general kernel and this is the DB6 component - so a question on the db6 dbsl will be answered fine.

ABAP and Java mapping

Wanted to confirm my understaing for ABAP and JAVA mapping.
Am I correct in my assumption that these mapping techniques can be used only if input and ouput is in XML format ?
So if XI is receiving a flat comma separated text/non-XML file or an IDOC for that matter and output is NOT in XML format, say again flat text file or IDOC, I cannot use above two techniques?
All the docs I have read suggest that 'Execute' method is called when XML file/data is received, paresed using DOM/SAX/JAXB (for Java mapping) or IXML lib (for ABAP mapping) and then create a output XML file.

Here you have a code sample for deescaping. I have have written this code a couple of time ago. The incoming file can be any text format. It might be XML, but not necessarily.
The main method is not reqired, but good for testing.
