Packaging files outside of the classpath in the Air Install Badge

Perhaps I am just missing it, but I notice when you bundle a
Flex app into an Air container, you don't have an option to package
assets that are outside of the src classpath? I see that the
packaging process allows you to navigate to files under the /src
tree but what about files outside of that structure?
Suppose I want to distribute assets outside of the swf and
have then distributed along with the application. Is this native
functionality or will a commercial installer be a necessity?

There is an option in the project settings to add additional
source folders to the project. And if none of the built-in Flex
Builder features do what you need, you can certainly package other
assets using the underlying ADT tool (which Flex Builder uses). The
only thing you can't do is install assets outside the application
directory or run other installation programs -- although you could
copy files elsewhere on the first run of an application.

  • ITunes moving files outside of the "music" directory.

I can't understand why, but whenever I open up iTunes it moves files outside of the "music" directory and into the "iTunes Media" directory.
The files it decides to move are random and it does not matter if I try to play or edit any of them, it happens as soon as iTunes is opened.
Any idea why this occurs and how I can prevent it?

I don't think you guys are understanding what I am asking.
Since iTunes 9 was released I have had my media "reorganized" and consolidated according to the "organize library" option in iTunes. My music library looked like this:
    ../iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/<artist name>/<album name>/<track>
What has been happening recently when I launch iTunes is that it starts moving my music to this structure:
    ../iTunes/iTunes Media/<artist name>/<album name>/<track>
iTunes is moving files automatically outside of my "music" folder into the root "iTunes Media" folder even though I have asked it to keep my folder organized / consolidated and have run "organize library" several times.

  • App-V 5 SP2 client attempting to find/create file in the package store (outside of the PVAD)

    Hi all,
Hopefully I'm not missing something screamingly obvious here but I've been at this for a while and can't work out how to get around it.
I've got an app that I've sequenced (App-V 5 SP2) and can run from the sequencer with no issues but when I publish and run it on my client test box, I get a series of errors pointing to there being missing files. Fairly common scenario so I turn on procmon
and see what it's trying to do/find and see that it's looking for a file directly under C:\ProgramData\App-V\PackGUID\VersionGUID and failing because the file it's looking for isn't there (nor should it be) and is present where it should be; under the C:\ProgramData\App-V\PackGUID\VersionGUID\Root\
    (which is the install directory).
If I modify the permissions on the "VersionGUID" directory and add the file to this location then the executable finds the file but fails because it's expecting to find the rest of the applications files from the installation directory in the same
    location.
I've tried packaging to VFS, packaging and installing to PVAD with the same results. The only way that I could get it to launch was by setting the directories under the VFS to Merge with the local files system, deleting all files in the package under the
install directory and copying the same file structure onto the test machine (This isn't really a solution though as we're talking about over 500mb of files).
What tricks do you guys use when you come across these sorts of problems? Hopefully this all makes sense!
    Thanks
    DT

    Deetts,
I plan on spending more time to see if I can get any better information, but a few interesting points so far.
The software seems to install a driver.
It is odd I only got the driver warning when I sequenced a second time and actually launched the software while in capture, but I have seen that before.
Also, the software ACLs the program files\client dir with some pretty interesting (stupid) permissions.  It actually
REMOVES inheritance, and adds everyone full.
While this isn't a problem per se as under HF4 we can enable full VFS writes, it leads me to believe the software may be doing a lot of other bad practices, and it wouldn't surprise me if it assumed its own directory had full write rights to, and bombs if
it doesn't.  Depending on how it determines its own dir may or may not be an issue.  You will never have write access to the program data app-v dir, but you will under the VFS program files\client dir.
At any rate, I am going to spend a little more time with it, but just seeing what I have so far means it may not be the best candidate for App-V...but, don't ever let that deter you!  We have completed many packages that were not ideal candidates with
    great success.

  • Deploying properties files outside of the web application in WebLogic 8.1

    Hi
I am wondering if it is possible to deploy a web application and place configuration files (properties files, log4j xml files etc...) in a folder somewhere within WebLogic that is on the Server instance classpath. This would allow me to edit the config files and restart the server without having to hack into the web application .war file and then redeploy.
I am really looking for an equivalent of the /applib folder in Oracle 10gAS (each OC4J server instance has an /applib folder which is on the classpath of the server).
Is there an equivalent for a weblogic server instance?? (i.e. not just for the entire weblogic server but for individual sever instances).
              thanks
              Will

WLS 9.2 includes pretty advanced features in this area. Both deployment plans and application libraries could be used. There's also a domain/lib directory where jar files can be placed and are visible throughout the server instance.
Unfortunately 8.1 has none of these features. In 8.1, your choices are to either add these into the $CLASSPATH, or package them in the application.

  • Saving .ai file outside of the artboard?

Is there a way to save the whole canvas out to a .pdf and not getting content cut off at the artboards? Or do I have to specifically change the size on each artboard? I have about 400 files that the content exceededs the artboard and I need to print out things outside of the artboard as well. Please help!! I am using Illustrator CS4.

another possible solution would be to record an action that fits the artboard to all art, then saves the file to PDF. CS4 doesn't allow you to record "fit to artboard bounds" command, but I have made a script for that, you can record an action to run the script and save to PDF, then you can batch run the action on your 400 files.
you can find the script here

  • Existing files on drive connected to latest Airport Extreme do not show up, however files copied over the air to the drive do. Any ideas?

I have the latest Airport Extreme with a Seagate drive connected. I copied files to the drive while it was connected to my MacBook Pro. The files do not show up when connected to the AE, but they appear when connected to the Macbook, Files copied over the network to the drive appear. The drive is formatted HFS+.

After playing with this for the last few days, I found a solution. Under the "Disks" tab in Airport Utility, the "Secure Shared Disks" drop down needs to be set to "With device password". Mine was set to "With acounts", which even after correct authentication, none of the files would appear.
Another interesting note:  The files that I could see, the ones I copied over the network, do not appear now. I can copy over new files, and they show up, but the ones copied prior to changing the "Secure Shared Disks" option, do not.

  • I have recently re-installed i-annot open because of a problem" response when I try to get into my files. After the re-install I still got the same message from 'pages'.  How can I restore the 'pages' app?

I have recently re-installed i-Work because I was getting a "pages cannot be opened because of a problem" response and I was unable to read any of my documents or open any attachments from my e-mails. After the install, 'pages' still will not open and gives the same response. How do I restore my 'pages' app?

I've never seen this error but I'd assume that it can be fixed the same way many Mac application errors are: open your Library folder and look inside the Preferences folder for the com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist file and throw it away.

  • Location and size of hotspot in a packaged file

    Hi all,
I'm working on a authorware program in which I want to use the location ans size of a clicked hotspot to draw a rectangle. Ultimately, I would like to be able to change the size/position of a hotspot, and when packaged, the rectangle should be drawn at the new position of the hotspot, with the new size. So far, I've been succesful in an unpackaged file with:
      GetIconProperty(@Title; #awSizeX))
      GetIconProperty(@Title; #awSizeY))
      GetIconProperty(@Title; #awLocationX)
      GetIconProperty(@Title; #awLocationY)
where Title is the title of the clicked hotspot. So far so good... BUT I learned the hard way that GetIconProperty() does not work in a packaged authorware file (next time I'll first read the help section better!). My question: how can I obtain the same information in a packaged authorware file?
I have been looking at the GetSpriteProperty() function, which should work in a packaged file. However, the hotspots are not sprites, and I don't know what spriteproperties I should use for the location and size of the hotspot  (#awSizeX, #awSizeY, #awLocationY, & #awLocationX don't work). Furthermore, GetPostPoint does provide the position of the top left pixel position of the hotspot, but I need separate X and Y values for the position of the hotpot to be able to use the Box() function to draw the rectangle. And I need the of the hotspot as well. Lastly, PositionY@Title and PositionX@Title don't work for my hotspots (the value is always 0 and does not change when clicking the hotspots).
I could solve the problem by making variables of all the position values and size values of all the hotspots, but then I would not be able to change the position and size of the hotspot by dragging, and changing the rectangle accordingly.
I would be more than happy to hear if anyone has a solution for me.
    Thanks!

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for your suggestions! Regarding your first thought: I don't know what you mean by making my clickable area a hit *object. I've tried the help pages of authorware, but it drew a blank. Could you explain how I can make my clickable area a hit *object?
Regarding clickX/Y: the values depend on the exact location where the user clicks, therefore drawing a rectangle over a picture (which is not moving) is difficult using clickX/Y. I would like the rectangle to appear on a certain spot (namely on the position of the hotspot, with the same width & height), regardless where in the hotspot the user clicks.

  • PHD syncing and OmniGraffle package files

I am having an issue where package files synced to the home directory are appearing empty at a later date.
This issue seems to be directly related to OmniGraffle documents, affecting anything that is a .graffle (OmniGraffle Document) or .gstencil (OmniGraffle Stencil) that are stored as packages. We are using OmniGraffle 5.2.1. I have the ability to save the documents as a flat file type, I am unsure of the stencils.
Our enviornment - clients are running on MacBook Pro's with OS 10.5.8. Servers are Mac OS Server 10.5.8. Home directories are stored in an xSAN enviornment (2.2). Users belong to a group (portable homes) in OD that manages the Mobility Preferences and PHD syncing.
I performed a test where I logged the user in, added a .graffle doc to their desktop, logged them out, restarted and logged back in. Upon login, the "outer shell" of the package was still there, but had no contents.
Below I have a few excerpts from the FileSyncAgent-verbose.log from the users system. The file I was monitoring was named "NetworkDiagramMaster-2010_vB.graffle"

This time, when checking the file on the desktop of the users system, the file was there, but there were no contents in the package.
The user has since logged out and left for the day, but I checked the server and for now, the file seems to be OK. It appears that when the person syncs later, the "blank" file is pushed from their system back up to the server. Then both files are blank.
I am not sure, but the phrase "Found 'empty' package job. Ignoring." appears a few times in the log. I think this may have something to do with the issue, but I am not sure how to fix it. I have many users and it is beginning to worry me that there may be other files which are not getting copied properly.
Has anyone out there run across this or have any ideas for a fix?

You need to ask the Dropbox people about that, but I'm pretty sure that it's like having an external drive and it can't sync that precisely. It will act just like dragging and dropping a file on an external drive and back up the whole thing each time.
For that kind of syncing you need an iDisk from Apple's MobileMe service. Certain note programs, like Yojimbo, are made with idisk syncing built in, but I don't think Devonthink supports that.

  • Deploying a .war file - outside of Tomcat default webapps?

I would like to deploy a war file outside of the [tomcat]/webapps directory.
How can I get tomact to recognize AND unpack a war file in a location other then the default webapps directory?
    I have tried the following;
    altering server.xml -
added context pointing directly to .war in other directory.
adding context.xml entry to my war -
added context.xml to META-INF of my war file, indicating that the docBase should be in outside directory.

appBase : The Application Base directory for this virtual host. This is the pathname of a directory that may contain web applications to be deployed on this virtual host. You may specify an absolute pathname for this directory, or a pathname that is relative to the $CATALINA_BASE directory. Going by that. try making the change as below in your server.xml
    <Host name="localhost" appBase="your_directory"
           unpackWARs="true" autoDeploy="true"
xmlValidation="false" xmlNamespaceAware="false" deployXML="true">I am going by what the doc says.
I havent tried it out myself, so do let us know if that worked.

  • File Object Unable to select Mac OS package file

    Hi,
I'm trying to select a Mac OS package file using either the
File object 'browseForDirectory' or 'browseForOpen' methods,
whichever method I choose doesn't work and the packages appear
greyed out in the finder and are not selectable.
On Mac OS, directories can be designated as packages and show
up in the Mac OS Finder as a single file rather than as a
    directory.
Does anyone know whether this is a known bug, and if so are
    there any workarounds.
I can hardcode the path to a package and then process all the
files within, however I need for the end user to be able to select
    the package.
    Thanks,
    Mike

UPDATE I have finally got it to install

  • Trashed single TM 'IN PROGRESS package file' now stuck in trash. Error8003

First Time Machine backup on 7.4.2010 after upgrading from 10.5 to 10.6.x went well. The attempt to backup starting on 8/23 gave red 'Failed' icon with "the backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk" message after each of several attempts to backup after dish utility drive fixes per Mr. Pondini and reboots.
TM Buddy kept locking and freezing Dashboard and attempts to use consul to ferret out the errant file(s)left me a bit frustrated.
Upon opening the backup drive I noticed the 'IN PROGRESS' package file listed in the subdirectory and figured as it was not a Dated backup folder and it did not appear in Time Machine display, I could right click and trash this 'package file' generated by the failed backup and move on to a new backup attempt... WRONG!! File is 'still' in the trash! Can it be moved out of the trash and re-established back where it belongs or is this a major recovery process
Subsequent backup ran for 7 hours all night and never was completed and now that In Progress file is stuck in the trash. Does the Pondini/Cglusman7/7/10 thread apply here as well??
What is strange is that the backup drive is showing the dated folders for my backup attempt but they don't show up in the Time Machine display window...!!!?????

If I understand how TM works, each successive backup performed without any changes occurring only contain a link back to the original backup. So even though they're not taking up much disk space, it displays 10 relatively useless hourly backup windows on the TM screen. I found your instruction for deleting these 'useless' extras.
Why bother? Time Machine will delete all but the first of the day after 24 hours.
And while they may not be critically important, they may not be useless, either -- if you've been on the internet, for example, your browser history, bookmarks, website icons, and cookies may have been updated, and the new versions backed-up. If you're interested, see #A2 for a way to see exactly what's getting backed-up.
Does the #A4 process only reset the 'Select Disk' & 'Options' preferences?
Those are the main ones, but TM keeps some other things in its preferences file, too, mostly so it doesn't have to look them up every hour when it does a backup.
With that I will thank you for your help and consider my question answered and the original problem solved
    Yay! Glad it's sorted out.
not to mention a huge gap filled in my understanding of Time Machine. Your website is a very valuable resource and should be well read by any Mac owner using Time Machine.
Thanks very much for the kind words.

  • The "air." prefix does not apear in my app.xml

    Hi
I am publishing an app for the Amazon store using the Flash Pro CS6.
after I publish my app I noticed  that the is no  "air." prefix in the <id> tag in my app.xml.  The "air." prefix is a default in the Flash Pro CS6 publish settings and cannot be changed.
Should I add the "air." prefix to my app ID in the amazon store or should it be exactly the same as my <id> in the app.xml file? (without the "air.")
    What about the Play Store?
Why did Adobe put the hard-coded prefix?
    Thanks...

    I'm using AIR 3.6

I developed an app for Android a while ago using just the basic native Android SDK, so of course there is no ".air" prefix. But since then I've started using the AIR platform and have completely redeveloped my app using AIR/Flash Builder 4.7 and there is no clear way to remove the ".air" prefix.
I can not update my app until Adobe addresses this issue. It is no longer nessisary to have the "air." prefix due to the captive runtime.
I found an awful long solution involving basically dismantalling the .apk file and repackaging it. But the workflow of this is an absolute mess to have to go through for every single update. In the iphone debug exporter there is a field to modify the package name that is visible in Flash Builder 4.7. Why can't that just be part of the Android release build export process that way I can easily remove the "air." prefix.
Adobe is making it really hard to switch over to using the AIR platform from developing with the native Android SDK.
I've also had trouble figuring out the 'AIR_NOANDROIDFLAIR' to true fix. Has anyone had any luck with getting this to work on a Mac? Would you mind posting how you went about setting that?
