Packaging IE 9 in SCCM 2007 using silent install switches

Hello all
I am planning on packaging IE9 to be deployed to some of our test computers then to our production environment of about 564 nodes. My goal is to run it as a silent install, no user interface.I use the follow commands but the Install box still comes up (see
below).  msiexec.exe /i "ie9-windows7-x64-enu.msi" /quiet
My other question is should I just push the upgraded IE9 with the next software updates patch cycle?
Thanks,
Phil
Phil Balderos

Hi Phil,
when you run through the IEAK wizard, you choose the user experience you want to have.
IEAK has the ability to output in MSIfile, or as setup.exe.
The MSIfile, is a dumb one, in that it merely unpacks the setup.exe and launches that.
When we packaged up IE9, we just used the setup.exe, and I selected silent+norestart and all that, inside the IEAK.
The setup.exe generated, includes the necessary parameters. I created a package/program in CM07 with just that.
Or, you can use: setup.exe /quiet /norestart
I've not found the MSI of any benefit at all, ever. (maybe if I was using GPSI or something that might be where I'd use it)

  • Deplyoing J2SE SDK using silent install

    Hi,
for a software application that generates java code after deployment we need to install the SDK with our software package. I found the instructions for the silent installation for the runtime environment, but they apparently do not work for the SDK. I use this command line:
    j2sdk-1_4_2-windows-i586.exe /s /v"/qn /L D:\Web6020\setup.log ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 INSTALLDIR=D:\Web6020 REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 WEBSTARTICON=0 CUSTOM=1"
The log file claims that the installation was successful, but this installation does not install half the things that the standard, guided installation places in the designated folder.
Can this approach of a silent install be used for the SDK in the same way as for the runtime only ? If yes, what needs to be changed in the above command in order to get the full SDK installed with runtime and everyhting ?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm packaging the JRE 5.0 Update 8 client for our Windows XP SP2 desktops. I need to disable the update feature in the Java client. I packaged the previous version (5.0 Update 6) and disabled the autoupdate without any problems, but for some reason, it isn't working the same in Update 8.
The problem is, after I install the client while attempting to disable the autoupdate, if I open the Java Control Panel (if I leave the tray icon enabled) the Update tab is still there and the "Check for Updates Automatically" box is still checked and the following registry entry is set:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Update\Policy
    EnableJavaUpdate = 1
I've read the doc... http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/deployment/deployment-guide/silent.html . I've tried installing it with several different options, including:
    jre-1_5_0_08-windows-i586-p-s.exe /s /v"/qb-! IEXPLORER=1 REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 AUTOUPDATECHECK=0 JU=0 SYSTRAY=0"
I also tried taking the .msi that's created in %temp% when you run jre-1_5_0_08-windows-i586-p-s.exe and applying a .mst that I created and setting the public properties (IEXPLORER, REBOOT, JAVAUPDATE, JU, UPDATECHECK and SYSTRAY) in the Property table of the mst.
Neither the command line switches or the .mst I created work.
How can I completely disable the update and remove the Update tab?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Default username when using silent install

Is it possible to change the default user name from "Administrator" when doing a silent install or will the first user created always be "Administrator"? I don't see any key for changing this in the silent install .ini file.

I will always be Administrator and it's not recomended to change that name.

  • SCCM 2007 - Report for installed instances of IE11

As IE11 is now an OS feature that is ether enabled or disabled, and it is no longer an installed application that would show up in the classic 'Add/Remove Programs' data, how does one go about reporting on it VIA SCCM?
On a Win7 device with IE11 installed, if you go into the Control Panel and then into 'Programs and Features' you will NOT see Internet Explorer listed.  However if launch 'Turn Windows Features on or off' you will find Internet Explorer 11 listed as
an enabled feature (checkbox is checked).
Thus if I design an SCCM report to query the 'Add/Remove Programs' data which is the 'Programs and Features' data, I do not find any results for Internet Explorer 11.  Hence the question, what is the measure to query a workstation inventory to reliably
determine which version (if any) of Internet Explorer is installed?

  • Silent install switches for iTunes 10 for Windows

I want to do large scale silent installations of iTunes 10 for Windows.
I also don't want iTunes it to automatically run, once the install has finished.
    I'm using the /quiet /passive switches.
The program seems to install without a problem, but when it tries to automatically run it gives an error message.
Apple Application Support was not found.
Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again.
    Error 2 (Windows error 2)
I'm not sure how to automatically install Apple Application Support, which would presumably solve the error message problem.

Hi Gold. AppDeploy is probably the place to check, although digging through for the relevant information is going to be a trial. here's a link to their 9.x page, but the other version information from version 7.x may be relevant too.

  • Can I use SCCM 2007 to deploy SCCM 2012 Agent

I was reading the scenarios for deploying the SCCM 2012 agent here
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682132.aspx
I have been planning to deploy the 2012 agent using an SCCM 2007 deployment package. I am not migrating any data/packages/collections/anything from SCCM 2007.
I am looking for a sane way to deploy 2000ish clients a day for 2 weeks and be done.
I figure they are all SCCM 2007 clients so lets deploy 2012 agent using SCCM 2007.
I read the following in the link above and it sounds like the way I want to go – use SCCM 2007 software distribution…
Upgrade installation by using application management
Upgrades clients to a newer version by using Configuration   Manager application management. You can also use Configuration Manager 2007 software
distribution to upgrade clients to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager.
Then later in the same document there is this…
How to Upgrade Configuration Manager Clients by Using a Package and Program
You can use Configuration Manager to create and deploy a package and program that upgrades the client software for selected computers in your hierarchy. A package definition file
is supplied with Configuration Manager that populates the package properties with typically used values. You can customize the behavior of the client installation by specifying additional command line properties.
You cannot upgrade Configuration Manager 2007 clients to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager by using this method.
In this scenario, use automatic client upgrade, which automatically creates and deploys a package that contains the latest version of the client.
What???!??  There is no Automatic client upgrade feature in 2007 – so how does that even make sense?  In one section, it says I can deploy the 2012 Agent using SCCM 2007 software distribution, and then later in the same document, it
says I can't.  I am probably misunderstanding somthing.
Is it possible to make a package/program in SCCM 2007 that will make targeted clients upgrade to Agent 2012 and join the new SCCM 2012 Site?

I tested this (deploying 2012 agent using existing 2007 SCCM infrastructure) with a few test systems at my desk and it seems to work pretty smoothly.  I made a package to deploy SCCM 2012 SP1 and added it to my SCCM 2007 Site.  Then I deployed
the 2012 agent from 2007 and it worked great.  If it works this well in production, I will be able to migrate all of my clients in less than a weeks time.
I have not published the 2012 site information in AD - and I don't plan to.  We would have some overlapping site boundaries - and in 2012 it seems its unnecessary in a single site hierarchy.  I AM planning to use boundaries to assign
DPs, but thankfully site and DP boundaries have been separated.  It works great to just specify the site in everything and not worry about auto discovery.  My clients don't move among sites since I only have one large site.
Sorry that I somehow posted this same question twice, and thanks for cleaning that up.
In my installation, I just called ccmsetup.exe with the following command line...
     /mp:myMP.mydomain.com CCMLOGMAXHISTORY=5 CCMLOGMAXSIZE=1000000 SMSCACHEFLAGS=PERCENTDISKSPACE;NTFSONLY SMSCACHESIZE=10 SMSMP=myMP.mydomain.com SMSSITECODE=CCM
I am not sure that I need to specify the MP twice, but it is working to do so.  I'm also not sure whether the log and cache flags will be honored since there are existing settings from SCCM2007 agent.  I think that the 2012 install will not change
these settings upon installation, but it does not appear to hurt the process to include them just in case it does work.

  • Office 2013 SP1 fails with code 17302 - SCCM 2007 R2

    Hi,
I am trying to deploy Office 2013, along with SP1, in the following order:
    1. Prompt to close all office apps and continue (vbs)
    2. Installation of Office 2013, using modified msp.
    3. Restart
    4. Installation of SP1 with command line /passive /norestart.
I am doing this all through a package I created in SCCM 2007 R2.
The first few programs works well. However, when the installation of SP1 starts, SCCM launches the program, then SP1 fails with code 17302.
Manual installation, through command prompt, with the same switches works fine.
The error is only when remotely deploying.
The system is Windows 7 X86 with latest SP.
    Please help!

    Hi,
Have you checked the log file? Does it say anything there? Also, where is the SP1 installation file stored? Since this only happens while remotely deploying, check the network or the setting of your filewall.
By the way, you can slipstream Service Pack 1 with your Office 2013 installation media, Office 2013 will be directly installed at Service Pack 1 level, saving you the trouble of applying it afterwards. For the details, please refer to this article:
    http://www.howto-outlook.com/otherprograms/slipstreamoffice2013sp.htm

  • Silent install using the MSI and incorporating the activation

    Good Morning,
I am trying to do a silent install of contribute for SCCM 2007 using the MSI and although the install works i can't figure out how to get the activation and registration silent as well.
I have tried using admin stuido (SCCM version) and adding the registry keys but that is not working.
Does anyone have any idea how this can be done?
I appreciate any help you can give me.
    Thanks,

In case you are deploying CS5, then I would suggest you to refer the Creative Suite Enterprise Deployment Guide -
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/creativesuite/enterprisedeployment.html
The Deployment Guide would provide you with information on how to supress these behaviours.
The above page also has a similar guide for CS4 deployment as well and also the links to download the Adobe Deployment Toolkits.
    Hope this helps .

  • Installing CS5 With SCCM 2007

    Hi,
I have followed the instructions and used the Adobe Application Manager Enterprise to create a package to install CS5. The package was distributed via SCCM and starts to install, It installs most of the products and then encounters an error and rolls back the install, uninstalling all the components again.
Im not sure what the issue is, i have tried to remake the package and had no luck still. There are no errors in the application log in event viewer and I have attached the installation logs from \syswow64\common\adobe. The error that stands out is the following:
adobe cs5 DB001: Database file 'Install.db' does not exist
However i checked each payload component and the install.db is present, and as i said i remade the package in case the files were corrupt and had no success.
I tried analysing the logs with Adobe support advisor and it only showed one error about flash player allready being a new version (there was no flash player installed in actual fact) and another error regarding an old version of photoshop (again, there was no photoshop).
I have tried the installation on multiple machines, it fails on them all.
The last machine i tried it on was a sony vaio, i5, 6gb ram, 1gb gfx card, 500gb HDD. It was a clean install of windows 7 with all updates applied.

    Hi Andrew,
May i know how did you created the package?
Did you saved the package locally or on a server?
Where were the installation files stored? Were they stored locally or on a server?
Did you follow the steps mentioned under the Adobe Deployment guide?
Did you try to actually run the setup file and install CS5 locally?
I would recommend you to take a fresh machine and create the CS5 package locally once again by following the steps mentioned in the above guide and then "Test the Package"(page 37) and check if the issue is with the package or the actual installation files.
Please feel free to respond to this thread if you have any questions about the steps listed within the document.  If you could also respond with the specific error message you receive, It would be appreciated.
    Regards
    Arpit

  • Sccm client v4 wont install and install client v5 - SCCM 2012 R2

Hi, I am coming to the end of a SCCM 2012 R2 client deployment. I have come across 2 machines (so far)that have the SCCM 2007 (v4) client installed, and although the task is set to uninstall from the server the v5 client will not installed. iI have been
    using this an as template:
    http://eskonr.com/2010/11/sccm-client-installation-troubleshooting-steps-check-list/
I have ran the install seperatelty from the server (boxed ticked - Uninstall existing Config Manager client) - No Install
The ccmsetup folder is created - c$\Windows\ccmsetup, but only has 3 files, no logs folder
Other machines on site has the v5 client
Checked ping from client to server and vice versa (no firewall enabled)
    Boundaries/Schema/DNS - ok
    Checked all local event logs.
i know you can run the local uninstall command, but as the network is vast i would like to fix to come from the server, rather than having to do this on the client.
Any tips would be great going forward.
    SCCM 2012 R2 - Windows 7 Enterprise SP1

    Hi,
I ensured the account used for the install was in the local admins group.
From the ccm.log on the server, i got these erros, been googling but nothing yet:
    ---> ERROR: Unable to start service "ccmsetup" on machine "LCD12121", error = 1075.    SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER    22/10/2014 12:01:43    1460 (0x05B4)
    ---> Failed to install CCM Client Bootstrap component on client (1075)    SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER    22/10/2014 12:01:43    1460 (0x05B4)
    Execute query exec [sp_CP_SetLastErrorCode] 2097153910, 1075    SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER    22/10/2014 12:01:43    1460 (0x05B4)
Also, is there a way to run a report on which machines dont have the sccm client/install issues?
    Thanks

  • Silent Install of Acrobat Pro 11

    Hey All,
I am using MDT to deploy Images and install apps.  I have packaged Acrobat Pro XI with the Customization Wizard XI and have used both  Unattended and Silent Install in the mst.
The below command starts the install but it is completely interactive except that my serial # and other settings are present so I know it is reading the mst.
    command line:  msiexec /i AcroPro.msi TRANSFORMS=AcroPro.mst
adding  /qn  causes the install to fail w MDT error code 1603 - Fatal error during installation.
    Any ides?
    Thank You

    MDT = Microsoft deployment toolkit
I must add the install fails when I run it from a command line as well and use the /qn switch but works  non-silently   if I don't use the switch.
So the solution is to add the /qn  but this is what is causing the failure.
This is exactly what it is doing:
Why doesn’t my install respect the “silent install” settings I specified with the Wizard?
If your command line is something like:
    MSIEXEC /I C:\A9\AcroPro.msi TRANSFORMS="C:\A9\AcroPro.mst
. . . then you are not using Setup.ini your workflow. The Wizard rewrites Setup.ini when you specify a silent install to include this option. The silent install switch is not saved in the MST. Either run Setup.ini or change your command line to:
    MSIEXEC /I C:\A9\AcroPro.msi TRANSFORMS="C:\A9\AcroPro.mst" /qn
