Pacman screwed up my system (gcc related) [solved]

After doing a system upgrade (pacman -Syu) I can't start most programs due to gcc errors.
When upgrading was finished I rebooted and tried to start slim but I got the following error: "error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
The same happens with lots of other programs (Firefox, Amarok etc.)
Even urxvt won't start, it says: error while loading shared libraries: libgcc_s.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
I have gcc (version 4.2.1-5), lib32-gcc (version 4.2.1-5), gcc-libs (version 4.2.1-2), libstdc++5 (version 3.3.6-2)

Ok, now I just feel silly, that worked.
I tried force upgrading the other packages but not glibc.

  • Pacman cant download packages upgrade doesnt work SOLVED

    Pacman is complaining that there is no package to download. Also to each server it connnects gives error 404.
    I checked my mirrorlist and I have enough servers checked there. Also I think there noting wrong with pacman.conf.
    My system was not upgraded for at least 2 years.
    Here I tried to upgrade one of the packages.

    Pacman is broken now.
    pacman -Syu
    pacman: error while loading shared libraries: libarchive.so.12: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    Followed all the news and changes from year 2010. My problem was that I could not upgrade pacman to version 4 (is 3.5 npw). But now even the current version 3.5 is broken.
    I will have to manually install pacman or what ?
    Q: pacman is completely broken! How do I reinstall it?
    A: In the case that pacman is broken beyond repair, manually download the necessary packages (openssl, libarchive, and pacman) and extract them to root. The pacman binary will be restored along with its default configuration file. Afterwards, reinstall these packages with pacman to maintain package database integrity. Additional information and an example (outdated) script that automates the process is available in this forum post.

    It worked, now I have pacman version 4.

  • [SOLVED] Pacman upgrade failed because of gcc-libs

    I have the multilib version of gcc installed in my 64 bit system. Ten minutes ago I tried to upgrade with pacman -Syu and I got:

    It is in italian, but basically it complains about a conflict between the installed gcc-libs-multilib and the needed gcc-libs. gcc-libs-multilib provides gcc-libs, so why this kind of error? I thought my mirror could be out of sync but I get the same error also using mirrors.kernel.org.
    Am I doing something wrong?

    AS you can see, although the problem seems to be cups related, none of the other packages has been upgarded as well.

    Well it sort of did, but I have to admit I had to check the forums before continuing...the messages I received were:

  • Pacman error; gvfs related [Solved]

    Hi guys, saw that fresh Gnome packages are in the repos (yay!) and did a pacman -Syu but get this error message:
    pacman -Syu
    resolving dependencies...
    error: cannot resolve "gvfs>=1.0.1", a dependency of "nautilus"
    error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: nautilus: requires gvfs>=1.0.1
    Any idea how to solve this? I tried to update the gvfs package but it just reinstalls the old version.

    It looks like your mirrors haven't synced up with gvfs-1.0.2 yet.  I'd just give them some time or try some other mirrors.

  • [Solved] Pacman 64bts on 32bts system - how to re-install Pacman

    Hi all,
    Really stupid mistake this was! After installing windows on dual boot, I booted on a Arch netcd to chroot into my install and re-install grub.
    But I booted by sheer stupidity onto a 64bits netcd, just realised today after few days that Pacman does't work any more and found out why....
    Now I have searched the forum and the wiki for a solution, but I do not want to make it worth, so I would prefer to have some advice.

    What exactly did you do when you were booted from the livecd?  If you had simply chroot'ed into your installation, you would not have been able to install 64bit packages unless you explicitly changed it in your pacman.conf. 
    If you want help, you really need to give a detailed explanantion of what you did and what kinds of problems you are currently seeing.  Giving broad generalizations and expecting others to try to decode what you have said is not very cool.
    Edit: BTW, a 64bit bios bootloader is fully capable of booting a 32bit kernel and userland.  This is not the case for UEFI, but you have also not given any indication of what you are using… though I suspect that grub really has nothing to do with your problem.

  • Can boot system, / is ro (SOLVED)

    I'm new, read a lot on the wiki's but am a t a loss. I'd luckerly done a full back up from a few days ago with the rsync backup so am up and running, but would like to know what I did wrong with the origional partition and fix it if possibe, otherwise copy i'd copy back the a few days out of date backup.
    The system boots but the / partition is ro, and I think nothing works because of this ? Before I'd had it nicly running lxdm login manager and e17 etc.
    I'd tried coping with the rsync backup method to another seperate partition to make sure it wasn't something wrong with the way grub was booting, but the heaviour was the same, so I'm thinking there's something wrong with the install. I had installed a few things since, I'd done the backup

    My mkinitcpio.conf and grub/menu.lst was reset after the upgrade. After I chose the right modules and the right orderin mkinitcpio.conf and rebuilt my menu.lst it worked again. Of course, this was my personal experience with the 2.6.20 upgrade of archlinux.

  • Cannot upgrade pacman due to conflict with package-query [SOLVED]

    Package query 0.9 requires pacman <4, package-query 1 requires pacman >=4, therefore I am totally unable to upgrade, even using pacman -f
    I'm aware that package-query is unsupported software, but this seems a bit stupid to me! Am I to uninstall package-query and therefore yaourt, only to reinstall them by hand, or is there a safe workaround?

    Time taken so far: 44 minutes (inc reading up on a few errors, plus line-by-line comparison of rc.conf.pacnew, reboot plus check of basic system workiness, plus waiting unsuccessfully for package-query source to download).
    Status: yaourt uninstallable (package-query git server appears to be down), openjdk6 broken due to bug, system otherwise appears healthy.
    Prognosis: Total 90 minutes for 4 machines seems a reasonable (optimistic) estimate, but I'll further put the other machines off until package-query git server is back up and running.
    And many apologies, this has veered somewhat off-topic and off-forum. I will probably make this my last post and let it die.

  • Business Systems and Related Integration Servers

    Each Standalone Business System has a corresponding Related Integration Server.
    Suppose I am Developing a scenario for a Business System in the development environment, I have a related XI Development Integration Server (call it XD1) then I want to transport the changes to the test environment. Since this business system is defined to only point to XD1 as the integration server, in the test environment I want it to use the Test Integration Server (call it XD2). But the Business SYstem is pointing to XD1 only!
    What I am saying is: Given that one Business System only points to one Integration Server, do I need one Business System for Development (call it BS_DEV), and one for test (call it BS_TST)?

    If you have only 1 sld and you want to move the XI objects from development(XIDEV) to Quality(XIQA).
    you will have to define the 2 business system groups and the related transport targets in the SLD..
    1st transport group XIDEV    --  
    BS_DEV will have XIDEV as the integration server.
    2nd transport group XIQA  --  
    BS_QA will have XIQA as the integration server.
    So you will have to name the business system differently as DEV and QA

  • Deleting a Business System and related/assigned objects

    I am PI newbie (as will soon become apparent) so first I apologise for my “simple” question.
    In PI one business system has been replaced with another e.g. BS_US_1CLNT is replaced by BS_US_2CLNT. I want to delete the first business system and all its related components and links without breaking anything, preferably.
    What is the best way to do this? I assume I go to the interface builder, select Object View, then select BS_US_1CLNT and open the object list. The object list consists only of communication channels so I can right click on each CC and delete? But what if these have been assigned already to Configuration Scenarios? Are there other objects/assignments I should take care of or check? Is this the right way to go about this i.e. simply right click on each CC under the BS_US_1CLNT tree and then delete?
    Please help me with the steps I should take to proceed with this, and any objects etc. I should take care of.

    Hi Glen,
    It is not easy just to delete all the objects pointing to a certain business system, but the way to delete would be communication channels first and then the business system would be last.
    When deleting a communication channel, you can see where it is used by right-clicking on it and then select the Where-Used List option. It will list the objects that uses that communication channel, namely receiver agreement (for receiver) and sender agreement (for sender).
    Once you have re-created the receiver/sender agreements to use the new business system, it should now be safe to delete the channels and the sender/receiver agreements. You should also do the same with the business system, right-click it and select Where-Used List. You also need to re-create the objects that uses that business system e.g receiver det, interface det, receiver agreement (if not yet deleted), sender agreement.

  • Pacman files downloaded, and saved to. [Solved]

    I was wondering, I looked on Arch Wiki first, but didn't find what I needed, where does pacman download files that you later install, for example pacman -S kde  I know there must be a place where KDE files must be stored, unless pacman automatically cleans up unnecessary files after it installs the package, if not, where would I go to remove the left overs, now since KDE is installed, I feel I don't need the KDE installation files, since it's already installed.

    I would highly recommend NOT doing pacman -Scc. It wont hurt anything, but then it will remove ALL packages from /var/cache/pacman/pkg- if in the future you need to downgrade a package that introduces a bug, you will not be able to via pacman's cache. Now, there is the ARM and the Download script in the AUR that can assist you with downgrading, but these also rely on your network working and take time to grab each package.
    A better approach is to run pacman -Sc. This will clear all packages EXCEPT ones currently installed. So, if you use your system a while, seems to have no bugs, then you can run pacman -Sc to clear everything except the packages currently installed. Just a suggestion...

  • Pacman -Syu fails due to mime.types[SOLVED]

    Hi All,
    pacman -Syu results in:
    error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
    mime-types: /etc/mime.types exists in filesystem
    Is it safe to mv mime.types and retry the system upgrade?
    I have Gnome and KDE installed.  I currently use KDE and this is "the" KED4.1 upgrade.

    pacman -Qo /etc/mime.types, showed no owner for the file.
    Performed:
    pacman -Rn mime-types
    pacman -S mime-types
    pacman -Syu
    System upgrade finished with no further problems.  Machine booted to KDE4.1 
    I've noticed a few things with KDE4.1:
    DUUUUDE, where's my data?!!? (calendar data, pim data, etc.)
    It seems a bit slow to respond.  I don't know if this is a kernel26 upgrade issue or it's the first time
    applications are being used so "things" are being set-up/configured for the first time.
    All in all, smooth upgrade to KDE4.1.  Thank you, devs.
