Pages 5 and comments

I stepped into the Cloud and like it so far. I take photos with my iPhone which I can easily drop into my iCloud document, only to continue typing on my MacBook. What's good about comments is that they stick to your pictures. So I can easily rearrange them wherever they provide value with image-specific data locked in place.
I read you can no longer print comments with Pages 5, but neither did Acrobat XL Pro read any when I exported to pdf.
I rather don't install any Microsoft junk and I'd like to wirelessly print from my phone. What would enable me to do so?

You can create a document using Pages for Mac at home on your MacBook and print it using AirPrint on your AirPrint enabled printer at home, correct?
You can then transfer that same document to your phone which is running Pages for iOS and print it to the very same printer using AirPrint, correct?
Then when you get to school, you can can print the very same document from your phone using AirPrint to their AirPrint enabled printer, correct?
If the school doesn't have an AirPrint enabled printer, you can't use AirPrint.
If the school doesn't allow you to wireless access their printer, using AirPrint, you won't be able to print using AirPrint.
If either of the above is the case, you will need to transfer your document to their server in order to print it.  If they don't use the same software as you do, you will need to convert it to a format their software can read in order to print it from their computers.
If the above is not the case, there should be no reason why you can't print the document at school as-is.  You don't need to convert a document for printing, but you do need to convert a document if you are attempting to share it with others who DO NOT use the same software that you do.
I'm just trying to get at the part where the document works and doesn't work and why.
Why are you even exporting the document as Microsoft or Pages 4?  The printer could care less what software you use, only the device you are printing from cares what software you use.  The only reason you would need to convert the document is to make it readable on a different device that doesn't run your particular software.

  • 2 questions: Thumbnail page and Comment page

I have created a class reunion site -
    http://www.risd41.org/ri/alumni/1968/index.htm
    using Dreamweaver MX 2004 (I'm a newb!).
    (1) I now have over 200 photos that I'd like to be able
create a thumbnail page (or pages) for that link to the larger
images. I have seen other software (several years ago) that
basically takes a folder full of images and creates a linked
thumbnail page on the fly that you can FTP along with linked images
and your good to go. Dreamweaver have anything to do this?
    and
    (2) The site right now is static 1 way site. I'd like to have
the center part of the main home page have the lower area allow
visitor comments - much like a blog. How do I go about doing
    that?

    Not in dreamweaver.
    If you want static page:
Look in Fireworks or PhotoShop or some other IMAGE EDITOR or
    thumbnail
    gallery application.
If you want a server side application that allows photo
    uploading and
visitor commenting, look for a script like Gallery or
    Coppermine or similar

  • I am building a iweb page and need a comment box-

I am building a iweb page and I need to know how to build the page so visitors can leave comments...
    Thanks

As Roddy says, you could look at Disqus or another alternative is http://www.intensedebate.com.  Try these 2 if you want the comments to be visible to you and others on your website.
If it does not matter to you whether the comments on your site are visible to others and you want the comments coming directly to you, then try having a look at http://www.jotform.com where you can create any type of form that you want, so a contact and feedback form would work - the comments would come directly to you, but not be visible on your website.  You could also try Google docs for this or http://www.wufoo.com.
Another method that Old Toad recommends is a guest book option - the results will be visible on your website, but I have never used this option.  Just do a Google search for Guest Book options.
I have used Intense Debate in the past and it worked very well on my site.  No longer use it as I don't really need comments and for that, I just use a JotForm contact and feedback form instead.  You could write your own code for your form to and use your servers Form Mail option so results get mailed to you and are then stored on the server instead of third party servers as is the case with Wufoo and Jotform - if the servers go down, then you have lost your form.  You are a little more protected if the form is on your own server.

That is a bug, so you need to wait until this get fixed.

  • Is there a way to create multiple New Tabs pages and name them?

This feature is great but I would like to be able to create multiple new tabs pages and label them. This would be more useful than tabs groups that all load at once.

No that is (currently) not possible.
It will be possible in future Firefox version to specify the number of rows and columns.

  • How can I save a page and all its component parts in a single file, like IE does as an MHT - it's much easier for mailing to people where page address not available?? (as in output from an airline booking site, for example)

how can I save a page and all its component parts in a single file, like IE does as an MHT?
It's much easier for mailing to people where page address not available?? (as in output from an airline booking site, for example)
It is simply too painful to have to zip everything up into a single file to send. MHT format has been available for years now from IE, and with every new FF release it's the first thing I look for. I have been using FF for years, and hate having to come out of it, over into IE |(which I even took out of startup) and key everything in again, in order to send somebody something in a convenient format that they can open with a single click.
I can't believe this hasn't been asked before, so have you looked at it and rejected it? Have MS kept the file format secret?
    Thanks
    MG

This is not really an answer just my comments on your question.
I am sure I recollect efforts being made to get mhtml to work with FF.
Probably the important thing to remember about .mhtml is that if other browsers do support it they may need addons, and may not necessarily render the content correctly/consistently.
There are FF addons designed for archiving webpages, you could try them, but that then assumes the recipient has the same software.
You could simply save the page from FF to your XP pc; then offline open it with and save it using IE, before then emailing using FF, and attaching the .mht or mhtml file that you have now created on your PC.
As an alternative method, in some cases it could be worth considering taking a screen grab of the required page, then sending that to the recipient as a single email attatchment using either a bitmap or jpeg file format for instance.
Something such as an airline booking may be designed with a print option, possibly it could be worthwile looking at sending the print file itself as an email attachment.

  • Maximum number of pages and links in an InDesign Document

We have an InDesign document that is 79 pages, and contains about 700 image links and 700 text links. The links in total are about 7GB (most text documents are 2-6K; images could be anywhere from 1 to 50MB). the InDesign document is 220MB.
If we house the package of the InDesign Document and the links on a local machine, it takes our machine about 2 minutes to load the file for editing. If the packaged is housed on a NAS drive (BUFFALO TERASTATION using Gigabit), it takes 16 minutes to load.
I'm wondering if there is a set of "best practices" that suggests a limit to the size of the package, and if you exceed that limit, you should expect poor performance? (Like should we limit our documents to 10 pages and 1GB of links?)
Are we asking for trouble by having documents and links this large? or is there some network or settings or performance issues on our network and on our MACs that I should be looking at first?
Thanks for any comments or assistance.

To answer in a simpler way:
Page number limit per document: 9999 pages
Link limit: your computer configuration (processor, ram, etc) determines it.
Remember, if u run very large documents, you need to upgrade your configuration accordly. If you not have enough available resources to run a job fast, its clear the computer/network needs an upgrade. There are models of HP computers that can reach 128gb of ram memory, and they are not server, they are workstations.
the other way is to avoid extra image data on links (large images in size, far from the output size) and work with the exact size you need, because this extra size can be the cause of the extra processing time.
"We "strive" to do the editing in PS, but often we have a PS file that we want to keep at 4x4 (for future or other purposes), but will place it in InDesign as 2x2 -- so we edit it in InDesign. Should we be creating a new 2x2 file for this one-time purpose?"
Thats the idea, (extra size = extra processing = extra time) X number of you images.

  • Web pages and/or images not loading

This problem started a few weeks ago once every few days or so, then got more and ore frequent where now it is happening multiple times each day.
I am using Safari 6.1 on an iMac running OS 10.7.5
Random web pages (some way more than others) will not load when I go to them. Sometimes, the text of the pages will load, but no images. Sometimes the URL progress bar will go across about an inch and the screen will go to blank white (this is most often) and it will just sit there. If I leave it alone, usually the web page will finally load about 4-10 minutes later on its own.
I have talked with my ISP and we have tried the following fixes, with no positive results:
When the problem happens, I try pinging the website {using Network utilities) and it always pings just fine.
When the problem happens, I run Traceroute (using Network utilities) and email him a screen shot of the results.
I have changed my DNS numbers to OpenDNS, per his comments.
I have removed the router and plugged in direct.
I have replaced all my Cat5 cables with new Cat6 cables.
While the problem is happening, he can ping me just fine from his end.
When the problem happens, I open Firefox and go to the same site, and have the same blank results in Firefox.
When the problem happens, I can open a new Safari window and go to other sites just fine.
This morning, I had the same issues, so I left it to clear on its own. I then went to Outlook to check my email and I had two emails where the images would not load at all, just like the web pages. So I left it alone for over 20 minutes and still no loading. Then I quit Outlook, re-opened it and the images came in just fine. During that 20 minutes, the web pages loaded in Safari in the background.
I found and read a discussion about this issue  (  https://discussions.apple.com/message/22125235#22125235  ) and per that conversation, I created a GUEST user account, closed out of my account and logged in as a GUEST. I then used Safari to browse the web ans while it was faster, eventually after about 30 minutes, I found a page that would not load (one of my usual suspect pages). I then sat back and let it go and after 5 minutes, the page loaded just fine.
    HELP!!!!!
    John

    Interesting side note . . .
After writing this (above), I clicked on the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the page and the screen went blank white and it sat there for more than five minutes, when it finally went through. SO, i had my problem occur while submitting my question about the problem!
    Awesome!

  • Script to extract pages with comments

I know that what I would like to do is probably quite simple. I'm trying to automatically take a source document, and extract all pages with comments to a new document.  Ideally, I would have multiple versions of this script for different purposes.  I used to be a business analyst years ago, but it's been years since I've written any code, and even back then I used SQL almost exclusively--it's been about 12 years since I've written any code other than SQL queries, and back then it was highschool projects written in C++ before OOP was really a big thing.  I'd attempt to read documentation myself and figure it out, but I really don't even know where to start -- my CS knowledge at this point is pretty much only conceptual.  Whenever I have a similar VBscript problem using MS software, usually all I do is find an existing function and modify one or two lines to meet my needs, so I've never really had to learn how the scripts I've used work.  I just tinker with existing stuff to get what I need.  My past coding experience does give me an idea is to the general algorithm that I think would work.  To show that I really tried with this one, I paste my guess as to how I would code this below:
    1)     Create For loop for source doc.
    2)     Create FOR loop for new doc
    3)     Analyze page in source doc
    4)     IF source page has any comments or highlighting THEN somehow note that page and increment "new doc" counter
    5)     Increment source doc counter
    6)     Repeat 3-5 until all pages in source doc have been analyzed
    7)     Create new file
    8)     Extract pages noted during step 4 to new file.
If someone could help me create the above script, I would probably be smart enough to get it to meet my needs.  What I'd really like are two versions of that script.  If asking for the community to simply provide me with code is not a cool thing to do, could someone link me to a good tutorial and/or existing scripts so I could try and figure it out myself?
    1)     One that extracts only pages with text comments (using the typewriter tool).
    2)     One that extracts pages with highlights or text comments.

In the second to last line of my OP I meant "using the 'Add text comment' tool" not "using the typewriter tool".

I downloaded OpenOffice and am able to print documents (in particular, the same document I created in MS Word). I guess MS Word is to blame. I believe the issue is concluded, but I'd welcome any comments about the Active Directory, as I might have a problem
with OpenOffice in the future regarding that.

  • BPM Process Spaces: Attachments and Comments issue

    Hi,
I've integrated BPM Process Spaces with WebCenter Spaces. When I'm trying to initiate a Process and send comments and attachment, the values for them is not passed from step to another. For example, if user A initiate a task with comments and attachments and send it to user B; user B can't see the comments and attachments from user A.
I searched the internet and I found conflict answers, some answers are saying that comments and attachments are not supported and others are saying it's working.
Can please someone give me a definitive answer and the configuration required if any?
Also can someone give me a definitive answer about how to configure BPM to store attachment in UCM?
This is urgent as I'm preparing a customer POC next week.
    Thanks
    Regards

after some investigations I found the following:
    - Users can attach documents and provide comments on task level from the task details page. The attachments and comments will only be available for this specific task but not on the process level.
    - Users can attach documents and provide comments on Process level from the Process Tracking page-> Audit Trail part. The attachments and comments will available for all the tasks in the process
    - in BPM 11.1.1.5 Features Pack. Integration with UCM has been developed and also comments and attachments can be defined as Task level or Process level when ever the user want to provide one.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks
    Regards

  • In Acrobat Reader for Mac is there a way to print just the page with comments?

What I mean is with my old Acrobat Pro for Mac, if I had a PDF that was 12 pages but only had comments on 3 pages, I could get a print out of the 3 document pages and the comments for those 3 pages.
    Thanks

Following EL will do what you want:
#{composerContext.inEditMode}In other words, the composerContext bean is available, even in a WebCenter Portal application. If you take a look at the default template (pagetemplate_globe.jspx) that is created when you create a webcenter portal application. On line 16, you see an example of the usage.
edit: sorry... Didn't see you meant the contribution mode...
Edit mode is by pressing ctrl+shift+e
    ctrl+shift+c is called contribution mode...
I just looked at the source code of the content presenter taskflow and this is what they are using to show the dotted line:
inlineStyle="#{composerContext.subView == 'contentContribution' ? 'border:2px dashed blue' : ''}">So I guess #{composerContext.subView == 'contentContribution'} will return true if you are in contribution mode. This should work both in spaces as in framework.
    Hope this helps.

  • IWork-pages and Prepress PDF files

I work in the prepress end of printing monthly magazines. When printing to 4 color presses the layouts need to follow the press quality standards. When make a PDF file from a page layout app it needs to follow PDF/X-1a standards.
This means when placing photos in a layout they need to be CMYK color space and not RGB and I personally prefer .tif or .eps files at 300 dpi placed in the layout at 100%.
There is a lot more to PDF/X-1a standard. Acrobat 6.5 Pro Distiller has a Job setting for making PDF/X-1a PDF files. Acrobat 6.5 Pro also has a Preflight to see if a PDF has been made to follow these standards
Here is link to a 17 page PDF on PDF/X-1a files
    http://partners.adobe.com/public/asn/en/printresourcecenter/PDFX.pdf
I am aways telling customers that they need to re-do there PDF files with the PDF/X-1a standards
I have never used Pages and I don't now if Pages has an export as PDF or PDF/X-1a setting?

    Hi Ric,
I'm not having a particular problem with "pdf" files at this point, but I will be developing "pdf" documents for one of my clients by using Pages. So far in test runs, it has proven to work just fine.
I am interested in your comments about PDF-X files and how to produce them. In my case, when I select File>Print, I just have a button to create a "pdf" file. There is no list with PDF-X as an option. I am using 10.3.9 and your profile indicates you are using 10.2.x. Do know if the "pdf" produced by using the print dialog "button" in 10.3.9 is PDF-X?
    Thanks

  • Acrobat pro crashes a lot when I am annotating and commenting in a pdf

I am running Acrobat Pro on a MacBook plus I have the app for the iPad (for synching).  I commonly annotate, highlight, and comment in articles or in forms.  Recently (within the last 3 months), the program stops, closes the document (losing any changes I have since the last save) and shows a screen with a system log file and  the option to "report the problem" to Adobe (which I always have).  Is this a common problem? It seems to be the only program that is behaving in this manner.  I will continue to search for some insight but would appreciate any guidance or suggestions.
    Thank you!

    Hi Sara,
Thanks for moving the discussion over.  I have been working on the issue a little, and I believe I have isolated the problem to the "Add Text" feature under the tools menu.  In a new pdf, I select the "Add Text" option, then change the options for it (e.g., red text, 10pt), and begin annotating the document by inserting the text in the document.  When I finish (no longer adding text) and perform another action (going to another page, highlight text), within a few keystrokes, Acrobat crashes.  I have replicated the process a few times now.
    Thanks, again.
