Palm Zire 31 fatal message RESET

I usse my Zire 31 daily, with no problems; until today. I turned it on and got " fatal message; RESET".
I pushed the reset button on the back and it went dead. It won't turn on, I tried charging for 30 minutes,
but no luck. HELP !!!

Hello HISZIRENESS and welcome to the palm forums.
Have you installed any 3rd party applications on your device? A corrupt application can be the cause of this fatal error. You need to delete the 3rd party app to get rid of this error.

Resetting Palm Zire 71

I have a Palm Zire 71. My two year old daughter hit the reset on the palm. I unfortunately changed computers and I no longer have access to the back up information on my desk top. Is there anything I can do to regain my information? The information stored in my palm dates back to the early 1990's. Needless to say, I'm lost without my information.

According to my user guide for the Zire 71, if the battery runs down to the point that the handheld does not operate it stores the data for up to a week. The first time my battery ran down to that point (bought used on eBay), all data is gone. It was only two hours from when I got the low battery message (and turned off the device) until I was able to plug into the charging cradle. When I got the device had had to do a hard reset to clear the previous owners data even though the device arrived with a dead battery. So why do all the post I run into here say that the battery won't save your data yet the user guide says you've got a week?
After the battery charged, I can't get the Palm to hot sync. I had to go through the initial setup with setting date, time, etc. When I try to sync, I get a message that... never mind. I tried to repeat the message and managed to sync to the computer. After the sync, I had to put in the current date and time again. Isn't the Palm supposed to pull that information from the computer?
Also, how do you sync all of the data? So far I have not been able to get note pad files from the palm to the computer. I would also like to know where expenses get synced to. I am using Office 2003 Outlook on this computer.

Palm Zire 71 Reset\Data Loss PROBLEM!!

I bought a Palm Zire 71 (From a yard sale) When I open and close the Camera it will turn off and back on, and it resets itself eraceing all my data, Then the PALM logo will appare, and I will need to redo the clock.
Any thoughts? This only happens (So far) When I Open and close the camera.

Given the age of the Zire 71, it would not surprise me that the battery is on its last legs.
There are threads over at Brighthand.com back when the Zire 71 was a relatively new device (4-5 years ago) discussing the ribbon cable. You might find an answer over in that discussion forum.
Reasonably priced repairs can be had at usedpdaparts.com.

ISync/Palm Zire 21 question

Please forgive me if this has been answered. I searched the board and don't see my question answered.
Palm Zire 21: for the first 3 days, everything was fine except everytime I did an iSync, I had to reset the Palm (change the date, fix the time, etc.). I do not use, and hope I don't need to use, the Palm Desktop software.
I have Hot Sync 3.2 (Enabled) and iSync 2.3 (Palm Sync Enabled).
In an attempt to fix this/start from scratch, I got the following message: "In order for iSync to work properly with your Palm OS device, the following HotSync conduits need to be disabled.
Address
Calendar
Contacts
Datebook
etc.
After hitting "OK", those conduits no longer show up in the HotSync>Conduit Settings window (they are all in the Disabled Conduits folder now)
Now iCal and To Do lists sync just fine, but no addresses show up in Palm AND I have to RESET every single time.
Can you please help me understand why this would be so? What is markspace.com and do I need to get the "missing sync" there?

Something clearly isn't right. Likely several things, actually.
The contents of your active Conduits folder show no conduit conflicts. A couple of thoughts, though…
You should move the Memo, Memos, Note Pad, Photos and Voice Memo temporarily to the Disabled Conduits folder to eliminate the possibility that any of these (maybe extraneous) Palm conduits are the root of the reset problem. The result will be that your Palm memos will no longer synchronize with the Palm Desktop, but that can be restored by moving the later Memos conduit back into the active folder. If the reset problem is no longer apparent when these conduits are not active, then one issue may be resolved.
Open the HotSync Manager application on your Macintosh and check to see that the following conditions are true:
• HotSync is set to Enabled in the HotSync Controls tab, and
• USB is checked in the Connection Settings tab
What does your HotSync log—as opposed to the iSync log—say about these events?
Have you configured the synchronization parameters for your device in iSync by pressing the device icon labeled with your HotSync name to drop down a pane in which you select various contact and calendaring options? Are both Contacts and Calendars enabled?
When you say, "… the only thing that's now uploading to my Palm is my To Do list" are you sure that in fact, it is to do and not memo information that is being transfered? I ask, because with the iSync Palm Conduit, to do or task data is synchronized by it with iCal, whereas there is no provision in iSync to synchronize memos. And, if iCal task data works, one has to wonder why event data does not synchronize…

Palm OS: "Fatal Alert!" Huh?

To all that are in the know....
I have commandeered a Palm Zire from my girlfriend to help keep track of my date book for my new job.
But, everytime I turn the power on, I get this "Fatal Alert":
init.c, Line 268, No serial library
At which point, I have to tap "reset" to do anything, which sends me back to the orginial set-up screen where it asks me to set date, time, zone, etc.
What is going on with this thing, and what can I do to fix it??

Hi and welcome to the palm forums.
This usually happens when there is a 3rd party app on the palm that is corrupted.
Was this palm ever sync'd before? Can you sync it now even with the fatal error?
What you would need to do is perform a hard reset. A hard reset wipes all the info off your palm so make sure to sync or that if there is any info you don't want to lose, it is all backed up.
Do you know how to perform a hard reset or do you need instructions?

Palm Zire 71 and Will not Sync with information on old Laptop

I can't get the Palm Zire 71 software on my old laptop to sync with my new Cradle that I bought on eBay. I get a message that says something like 'The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again."
All my info is on the Palm Zire software on my old computer and I want to sync and move to my new laptop. Please help!

Need Driver for Palm Zire 71 Dock

I need a driver for my Palm Zire 71 dock. I do not have the orginal disk.
When I press the sorce button nothing happens.
I did download the one to transfer data from the computer to the Palm.
I have windows XP Pro W\ Service pack 2 Also I have Vista on my Laptop

I downloaded "Palm Desktop 4.1.4E for Windows"
When I try to hotsync through the palm Menu the Palm gives me this message "The Connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again" Pressing the hotsync button on the dock does nothing. My dock connects with a USB I am running both OS on different computers I am having the same problem on both, My only thoughts are:1: Bad dock (Palm will charge on the dock)2: Dock needs a different driver
I tried to add the dock manualy through Add and remove hardware, still nothing.
The USB port is fine I have used it for other hardware.

I want to read my email from my computer on my Palm Zire 31.

I have had my Palm Zire 31 for a while and really like it. There was a point that I was downloading my email from my computer to my Zire and reading g my email on the go along with MobilePocket. I had to do a reset and tried to reinstall everything. I was able to do everything except the Outlook Email on my Palm Zire. Can anyone help me do this again download my email to my Palm Zire 31?

Windows 7 64-bit & wireless Palm Zire 72 - can't sync?

We've loaded the software that came with the Zire 72 on our new Dell Inspiron 1750 laptop however we can't sync. I went to Palm's website and downloaded/installed Palm Desktop 6.2 as it said it was for 64-bit systems however we STILL can't sync.
I got to the step on the Palm unit where it asks for the Security code which I entered but it still does not want to sync.
Does anyone have any answers to this secret? We are connecting via Bluetooth.
UPDATE: I'm now seeing the message about the port being used when we try to hotsync.

Follow the instructions here: http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/49229_en.html and do not setup a bluetooth serial port on your pc's bluetooth settings or the palm sync settings, just use regular bluetooth. Worked for me! Good luck!

Palm Zire 31 not turning on after charge

I charged my Palm for more than 4 hours. I had been having trouble charging it at all and had finally gotten the charge icon. Forgot about it until this morning so it was on the charged for 13-14 hours. Now it won't turn on. Is it ruined?

Are you sure you are performing the hard reset correctly? A hard reset wipes off all the info from your palm. A hard reset is performed by holding down the power button while sticking something thin (your stylus, paper clip) into the back reset hole of your device. Keep your hand on the power button while you release the paper clip from the reset hole. The screen will now say "Palm Powered." Take your hand off the power button. You will now see a screen in 5 languages prompting you to erase all data from the palm. The screen will say "erase all data? Yes - up, no - down" and you need to click on the up arrow (silver button on the 5 way navigator on the bottom of the palm). This will erase all the info from your device.

Palm Zire wont Sync with Address Book or iCal

I just got my Dad to switch from his PC to a MacBook and we can't get his Palm Zire 31 to syncronize with Address Book or iCal.

HotSync 3.2
iSync 2.3
I went thru the setup articles and compared the settings to the ones on my Powermac and I don't see any differences. The HotSync log gives iSync Conduit errors: Could not create database Address DB, NULL from rendezvous.
This is not impressing him.

I think we have this handled. After losing all of his data and using an old back up file, we are getting somewhere. I did a hard-reset and then synced it. I have his Palm and MacBook communicating. Now, to get that dumb device to play mp3's like it was supposed to.

I need serious help with frozen palm zire 21 and hotsync.

Hi, My palm zire 21 is frozen! It is an older one, It froze then I reset on back and about 2days later it came back on, I don't know where my hotsync disc is to download! Then it froze again(maybe to full?) I need my info off of it, I would like to hotsync it to computer and then get another device, but can't right now. I have been online trying to figure out how to download something for it, but can't seem to figure it out! It beeps if I try to tap anything on it! If you have any suggestions let me know!AC

If the device will not function post a soft reset then a hard reset is needed. This will erase all data. There isn't anything to download that will make a non functioning Zire 21 start working.

First try a Soft Reset - that's always the first thing to try with any Palm problem. If that doesn't work, you're headed for a Hard Reset, and erasure of your Palm. Be sure to do a complete backup before attempting this!

Palm Zire not Sync

I did not use my Palm Zire through most of 2010 and the battery ran down for a long period of time. I am keeping information updated on computer and now need to down load or sync to the hand held. I charged up the battery in hand held and tried to sync it to computer but information from computer is not transferring to hand held even though it goes through the sync process with message saying sync is complete.
