Part of picture missing when printing

I have Quark Xpress, which I export into Adobe so it's easier to transport to the printer, etc.
Everything transfers fine and all the pictures show up entirely. When I print it, however, one picture has a "block" missing. It is only the one picture, all the other pictures on that page and the other 40 pages print perfectly.
Anyone have any ideas?
I tried re-exporting it from Quark, checking in Quark for any problems with the picture. The page prints fine in Quark -- Just when I try to print from Adobe, it removes a chunk. Please help!
Thanks!

Similar to Mikey's response… If the logo has a spot color in it and it overlaps any raster image (or vice versa), then the overlapping part will appear white if "Overprint Preview" is turned off in Acrobat. This is really a bug. One possible fix is to export the PDF as an PDF/X-4:2010 in the "Standard" drop down—this preserves all transparency layering without flattening.
This issue causes frequent headaches and confusion in my workplace, especially since a lot of people want/need to hold on to the PDF/X-1a standard, which flattens the artwork.

  • Photosmart 475 cuts top of picture off when printing

I have a Photosmart 475 and have not used it very much until now.  Whenever I choose a picture(s) to print, on the screen they look fine but when they print the top of the picture is cut off. This has resulted with many heads cut off in the photos. I have it set to borderless printing and am using HP Premium photo paper size 4 x 6; one picture per sheet. I am not zooming in on the picture either.  Also, I load the paper as shown in the diagram in the book. Does anybody have any suggestions as to why?  Thank you.

I have seen this happen with Avery labels. Are your Margins off when you print from other programs?

  • Printer Settings dialog missing when printing to another Mac with Bonjour

I want Photoshop to manage my color settings rather than my Epson 4800 or Epson SPRX 580 printers, so in the print dialog box I select the "Printer Color Management" tab and set color adjustments to the OFF position. This works fine as long as the printer is connected directly to my MacBook or my MacBook Pro. But if I try to send a job on my MacBook Pro via bonjour to either of the printers when it is connected to my MacBook, the print dialog is missing the choices of "Printer Color Management", "Printer Settings", etc.
All that is available are things like "Layout, Cover Page, Scheduler, Summary." The "Printer Settings, Color Management" options only show up on either computer when connected directly to the printer.
Is there a way to get those other choices (Printer Settings, Color Management) when printing over a bonjour network?
I'm on Mac OS 10.5.6 on the MacBook Pro and Mac OS 10.4.10 on the MacBook. I have downloaded all the driver updates from Epson and deleted and added the printers again with the same result.

HP must have release a driver update because we no longer encounter the problem.

  • Some characters missing when printing a PDF on Canon MP560

    Hi,
I was not sure where to post this. I have a 15" MB Pro and a Canon MP560. I just went to print a PDF invoice and the printed invoice was missing a few letters/characters in random places. They are not missing when viewing the invoice on my Mac but they are if I click print preview.
    Odd... Any ideas?
    Thanks

Hi, i have the same problem, when i print PDF from "Preview" with Samsung 6200FX in Snow Leopard the "X" characters are missing from sheet. When i try a "save as PDF" in "print" the problem is still on, the characters missing again.
The problem of missing letters appear and when try to compress PDF (Flie-SaveAs-Quartz Filter=Black&White).
This problem is not in Leopard.
P.S Please, If this possible, move this topic in Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard section.

  • Text missing when printing PDF

We're having a problem with printing PDFs to our networked large format Canon ipf8000 printer from our Mac Pros. We have two Mac Pros, both are having the same problem. When printing a PDF through Acrobat Pro that we have created using either from Adobe Illustrator or Adobe InDesign, that contains live text information (font's are embedded as the applications do this by default when saving a PDF), none of the text will print. All graphics and images will print but text will not.
This initially started off as an issue where the printer would print some characters incorrectly, then this progressed to printing complete gobbledygook, to not printing any text at all.
We had thought that it may be a printer driver problem, but we recently just bought a new printer (same model, just an updated version ipf8300), and installed the new drivers for it and this issue still occurs on this machine.
Converting the text to outline before saving the PDF and sending it to print is the only solution we have found so far to get the text to print.
I have tried printing the same document from a PC, again using Acrobat Pro, and it has gone through completely fine, all text is present and correct, which leads us to believe it is a Mac related issue and not a printer related one.
Has anyone else experienced this or know of a fix for the problem, other than what we are doing currently?

  • HP Photosmart D110 - detail missing when printing tickets and statements

When printing on line tickets or bank statements, the form itself (heading, column heads, etc) prints, but the personal detail data that is on the form does not show.  The print preview screen shows all the data.  There is no error message.  Printer works fine for email and most other documents.  Spread sheets and word documents also only show partial data.  This is a recent occurance; but there had been no previous problem.

Hello, I noticed you said "Network via Wired" and then said "wireless. I will gladly to assist you. Just to you let you know, you cannot be WIRELESS and WIRED NETWORK (Ethernet). You can be WIRELESS and plug the main PC in as USB cable. So here are some steps to downloading the drivers and connecting your MAIN PC (USB) and the others (Wireless).
Connecting to the MAIN PC wired (USB)
    1. Connect the USB cable from the printer directly to the main PC.
    2. Download the drivers from the website (http://goo.gl/BVOOg), or if you have the CD.
Note: Whenever you download the software and drivers from the website. Make sure to choose the FULL FEATURE SOFTWARE.
    1. Choose Drivers and Software
    2. Type in Product name (click search)
    3. Choose Operating System (click next)
    4. Choose Download (scroll down to the FULL FEATURE SOFTWARE)
    5. After downloading the Software, it will EXTRACT
    6. It will give you an option on how you want it connected
    7. You will choose USB for the Main PC
    Connecting NETWORK WIRELESS
    1. Go to Settings on your printer
    2. Choose Network
    3. Choose WIRELESS SETUP WIZARD
    4. This will search for your router (If wireless). Choose your router and it will set the printer up wireless.
    5. Go to the other computers and follow the steps above on downloading the drivers.
    6. When it comes to SELECT Connection, Choose (Wireless/Network)
This way, you can print from your main PC through (USB wired), and the other computers wireless.
If your ROUTER is not wireless, and you only can use the network with a cable (Ethernet), then you can only print by plugging the ETHERNET cable from the router to whichever PC your choosing to print from at the time. Also plug another Ethernet cable from the router to the printer.
I hope this helps out, if you need anymore assistance please ask, thanks.

  • Characters missing when printing a PDF

    Hi all,
When printing a PDF file (word document converted and digitally signed with Adobe Pro XI) some characters are not printed, they are as blank spaces. The workaround is to print the file as image, with a significant decrease of printing quality. Is there any setting or option to change to avoid this?

If as in the past, this is an issue with an HP print driver. Printing as image is generally the solution, but a lot slower I think.

  • Part of logo missing when exporting to PDF

I'm running ID CS6 and Acrobat Pro X.
When I export a document as a PRINT or INTERACTIVE pdf, part of my logo goes missing. The funny thing is that our design team are all running the same programs and 3 of our members can view the logo completely, the other 4 see half of the logo missing, I can see the logo just fine.
    • The logo mark is visible, but the typography that is part of the logo is missing?! And it's a single grouped object in Illustrator.
    • We've compared the settings on our teams' programs and on my ID program as well, and nothing seems be remotely related to the issue.
    • Finder on Mac shows mixed visibility in file preview on different computers. Some show, some don't.
    • In the past, I've been able to place vector objects from Illustrator into Indesign completely fine. I prefer vector over image because it allows me scaling flexibility.
    • I have not changed any settings on my program between the time I was able and not able to do this. I don't understand why different people are getting different results on their screens. And in a couple of occasions, it has happened to one of our team members and it fixed itself mysteriously.
I would like to provide screen shots, but it is a private design.
One key note to realize is that the logo is completely outlined and grouped as a single object. I then save the logo into the same folder as the ID file (tried both, .EPS and .AI) and placed it (CMD+D) into InDesign. Both files are CMYK files.
I then make my PDF by hitting (CMD+E) to export, choose PDF Print. On the PDF settings, I choose [High Quality Print], compatible with Acrobat 5 and beyond, uncheck optimize for web, include bleeds, no color conversion.
I've had issues in the past where hidden layers in an .AI are still visible in the PDF. The .AI is imported into InDesign then exported as PDF... The hidden layers from the .AI preview in Finder, but then vanish when opening the PDF...so buggy.
    Make any sense?!...

Similar to Mikey's response… If the logo has a spot color in it and it overlaps any raster image (or vice versa), then the overlapping part will appear white if "Overprint Preview" is turned off in Acrobat. • Showing invisible parts of the document when print is cancelled

The recommended way to hide content of a form designed in LifeCycle Designer 7.0 is to make the non-printable elements invisible in the prePrint event and to show them again in the postPrint event.
When the print is initiated, the respective objects become invisible and they are shown again after the print is executed with OK. However, when the print is cancelled by pressing Cancel, no postPrint event occurs and the objects remain invisible.
We have not found a workaround for this problem which appears to be a major functional issue which makes the advertised way of hiding content for printing not viable. That makes the product unusable for our purposes.
We have also tried to create a layered PDF with InDesign and adding control elements to this document. The plan was to mark some of the layers as non-printable in Acrobat. However, after we added the control elements, saved the file and opened it in Acrobat, all the layers were lost.
Is there a way to workaround this problem?

Thank you for responding. Below is some info.

  • Parts of form missing when browsing

    Hi,
I have OS X 10.4.9 and am new to Mac and having a problem with browsing-am hoping its a simple one and you guys can help!
When I open certain web pages there are parts of the form which are missing. eg. i have a form for work which is missing a drop down menu to enter dates to apply for annual leave. On all other PC's its there but not on my Mac.
Also on other web pages I cant click on certain things like pics or music or files-(where it says click here).
Is there something my computer is missing? Any advice is greatly appreciated Thanks

To turn javascript on in Safari, go the the Safari menu and select Preferences and then go to Security. Check the javascript box.
What Rick mentioned is correct, web designers sometimes do restrict their work to Windows. It is because they're lazy, but the extra work is due to Microsoft's arrogance in following standards. My favorite example is PNG, which is a great graphics format with alpha transparency. But Microsoft never implemented it with alpha transparency on Windows (they did on Mac!), so a web designer has two choices: go with the cheesier GIF, or detect which browser you're using. Now what do you think most designers do?
The only way I know of to dectect browsers and change code accordingly on the client side is to use a scripting language and the most ubiquitous one is javascript. So because of Microsoft's policies, most designers need to use javascript to check if you're using IE on Windows. Check out my web site http://www.philsmith.com/caravan/ on a Mac and on Windows to see what I'm talking about. There's javascript to tell what browser you have, and the graphics and music are implemented differently in either case. Without javascript, I couldn't make this happen.
So your choices as a designer are to use javascript or go with one platform. And you can guess which platform most are going to choose.

  • Background picture missing when post at non .mac-server

Hi, I am new at this so you have to excause me if I ask stupid qustions.
I’ve just made a homepage using Iweb. When published at:
http://web.mac.com/katamaleegarden/ it looks the way I want it to look, when published at:
http://maleegarden.com the background picture isnt there. What have I done wrong?
    MiniMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Welcome to the discussions, Malee.
It looks like the problem is the name of that image (and one other image on your page AND other images on other pages). .Mac can handle names like these
    http://web.mac.com/katamaleegarden/iWeb/7CDA7829-0DE9-11DC-AD00-000D93787A30/Ima ges/balkongfontän1-2.jpg

But when you post those to another server, they become
    balkongfontän1-2.jpg
    Orkidé8-1.jpg
The easiest way around it is to change those names so that they don't use any special characters, like
    balkongfontan1-2.jpg
    Orkide8-1.jpg
If you go back through and change your image file names so that they don't have those characters, you shouldn't have a problem with missing images on these pages either:

  • Parts of screen missing when played on Internet Explorer

Has anyone ever had a published CP5 project not display the whole screen when presented in Internet Explorer?  A coworker brings up a course in IE and the playbar and the right side of the screen are missing.  I bring up the same course from the same source on a different computer and all the elements are there.
I have no idea how to explain it.  The monitors are the same resolution and the size of the project isn't big enough to go off screen.

If everything else is the same, IE has that zoom option.  I use the shift-mouse wheel, not sure if you can do it with the keyboard or touch pad, but rolling up zooms in, rolling down zooms out.  Perhaps that's it?

  • Indesign CS4, text on path missing when printed.

I have a very important book going to print, and some last minute changes were made directly after upgrading from CS3 to CS4, now that the file was converted to CS4, text on circular paths display in the program fine but do not print or appear in pdfs. There are 12 sections in the book and for some reason, the first section prints fine, even though the elements in the other sections are the same. Nothing is linked to a master page. Even when I copy the text that DOES print from the first section and paste it in place later in the book, it will not print.
Is has anything like this been discussed? I've seen a lot of mention about master page items needing to be overridden in these cases, but they are not linked to a master page... I even overode all master page items just in case, but no luck.
    Thanks for any help!

Obviously the first thing to check is that they aren't set to non-printing in the attributes panel, or that the layer isn't set to non-printing, but it seems unlikely that this is the case if you've copied and pasted in place from one that does print.
Do they show on the screen in preview mode, or when overprint preview is active?

  • Files Missing When Printing, i.e.x2utilkd.dll (Xerox)

We are seeing an issue pop up and it is occuring more frequently of late.  We have Windows Server 2008 R2 print servers, Windows 7 32 bit clients and Xerox printers.  A user will call with a problem either (1) printing from Office and it prints
out skewed and jumbled as if a print driver issue and/or (2) errors about missing files while attempting to print a PDF file.  It will occur to that users but if another logged into the computer, it would not affect their profile.  Once it starts,
it is constant but may not affect all the printers they have installed.  We have tried uninstall/reinistalling print drivers, cleaing out the spooler, uninstalling/reinstalling applications, clearing out the associated registry keys but nothing seems
to work.  We saw several articles addressing Splwow64.exe errors but we haven't seen that one--only the x2utilkd.dll error.  I also saw in the same articles that simply disabling the CSR will work.  Problem is, we are
remote techs and even though we have years of experience on the server side ourselves, home office server techs won't buy in enough to even try un-checking CSR.  So, I'm asking for more data.  Anyone else seen this, tried this and what worked for
you?  It is crazy to have our hands tied like this and have to re-image user's workstations because of this.  Please help!?

Thanks for  your reply.  I was able to get the print server team--they are at corporate level in another state, to disable CSR.  It appeared to work and seemed to resolve the skewing issue but now the missing file issue is back.  Unfortunately,
those of us in the field have absolutely no admin rights to edit GPO on the desktop and no access to the server at all.  Very weird but that's how it is.  As I said the printer team are stubborn and won't waste their time unless we can point them
    to a "Microsoft says...." article.
I have put substantial time into researching the issue and this is the best I found and the poster says that Microsoft was the one advised them:
    1. Disable CSR.  This can be accomplished as shown above or by policy.
    2. Disable Asynchronous RPC on the Windows 7 client machines by adding a registry entry:
    HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Printers\EnabledProtocols
    Type: DWORD
    Data: 6
    3. Install the print hotfix roll up package on the server.
The print team un-checked the box for the printer in question.  Unless I have good docs stating that they should do this by policy, they won't.  I added the registry entry.  I do not believe they installed the roll-up package on the server.
If you know of anything else I can have them try--server side, please let me know.  Adobe doesn't claim the problem, un-installing/re-installing, upgrading/downgrading Adobe products does not work.  Uninstalling/reinstalling print drivers on the
workstation/server doesn't help.  The only thing I've been able to do is create a new profile for the user or re-image the machine which I feel is pretty extreme.
Other info for our environment:  Windows 7, SP1, Windows Server 2008 R2, Acrobat 9 through X, doesn't seem to matter.  No roaming profiles, users move from site-to-site and use different printers Kyocera/Xerox/HP/Brother and users use Citrix to
access published apps and use the local printers through Citrix.  The issues do not occur if the user is using Citrix and the PDF is launched from the server.  It is only if the PDF is launched from their workstation.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I myself have been unable to replicate the issue.  It just seems to be random.
