[Partially solved] Setup wired connection with VMware

Hello everyone !
I'm fairly new to archlinux and I have been trying it with VMware Player 5, with a Windows Seven host.
So with the first install I tried, everything worked really great with the Beginner's Guide, so I made another install with the settings I really want.
I had access to Internet during the whole install, but after rebooting, the connection is not working with the dynamic IP nor the static IP, even though I configured it with net-auto-wired. I tried to mess with the two network adapters created by VMware but nothing worked yet. When I try to ping, I have the "unknown host" error.
What really surprises me is that it worked really well for the first install, and during the whole process of the second one.
Thanks !

After reading the Network Configuration, it seems that the problem is here : https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/30235
Here, the guy is using Virtualbox, but it might be almost the same problem. I have to run manually :
dhcpcd enp2s1
After that, I do not get the unknown host error.
The Network Configuration Wiki page says :
If the dhcpd service starts before your network card module (FS#30235), manually add your network card to /etc/modules-load.d/*.conf. For example, if your Realtek card needs r8169 to be loaded, create:
/etc/modules-load.d/realtek.conf
r8169
Tip: To find out which modules are used by your network card, use lspci -k.
Using the tip, it says that my card (Intel Corporation 82545EM Gigabit Ethernet Controller) uses the kernel driver e1000, so I tried the solution from the Wiki, with a file in /etc/modules-load.d/ containing e1000, but it does not work.
What should I do to have it work directly ?
Thanks for your attention.

I have an AirPort Extreme and a linksys router. What is the best way to get 6-8 wired connections with ac speeds?
    Appreciate your assistance.

The answer depends on whether the AirPort Extreme is your main router....or...the Linksys device is your main router.
In either case, the two devices must connect together using a wired Ethernet connection using CAT5e or CAT6 cabling.
Any version of the AirPort Extreme produced within the last 5 years will have Gigabit Ethernet ports. In order to get the same speeds from the Linksys router, it will also need to be Gigabit Ethernet capable.
If you need additional Ethernet ports, you will need to add a Gigabit Ethernet switch to either the AirPort Extreme or Linksys router.
It is assumed that your other devices connecting to the AirPort Extreme and Linksys router will also have Gigabit Ethernet capability.
Not sure why you mention "ac" speeds in your post. This relates to wireless connections, not wired.

Issue - ipad connecting with vmware view client v5.1. "any way to disable or hide the vmware view's radial virtual keyboard mouse interface" either in vmware view client settings, hidden cmds, or ipad system settings.
My client is using an external blue tooth ipad metal cover type keyboard and does not wish to have the radial keyboard / mouse visable or floating on desktop when connecting to vm with iPad using vmware view client v5.1.
i was unable to locate any settings or related toggle key/function combo keystrokes under iPad settings under vmware view client, to affect viewability of the radial keyboard/mouse. And can you kill it from service/process on vm instead of ipad? then dont allow service to restart at startup? What is the name of services that enable the radial virtual keyboard mouse - function to work?
Thanks for any and all feedback-

I'm having a very similar issue. Sometimes, when I boot and type in startx (I'm not even a GNOME user--I use dwm and no graphical login manager), I just get a black screen. No mouse cursor, so I think X doesn't even load. It only started with the xserver 1.6 update and the update to that hasn't changed anything. What I've been doing is just rebooting until it loads normally (takes one to three times). Is anyone else having this problem?

  • (Solved) Bridge ethernet connection with Samsung TV

Hello, on my laptop I connect to the internet through my built in wireless adapter. I am trying to give my samsung tv a local network connection. I do not care about sharing my wireless internet through the ethernet althought that would be a convenient plus. However, I run to able to use my wireless internet while keeping the ethernet bridge. I run ps3 media server currently using my wireless connection but wired is more stable and so I want use that. I unplugged the wireless adapter from the samsung tv to get rid of the conflict. I am using KDE and networkmanager (the actual tray applet designed for kde is in use). I prefer to set this up graphically using networkmanager if possible.
Output of lspci | grep -i net
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM57780 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 01)
04:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR928X Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)
According to windows my wireless is a AR5 and not an ar9. Not sure which to believe.
I setup the connection arch-laptop, restarting the computer and Wired Connection disappeared.
On my tv I have internet protocol setup as manual.
IP Address like networkmanager is 10.42.43.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway 1.1.1.1
Setup IP setup to manual forced dns to that also
    DNS Server: 192.168.2.2
My isp (cisco brand) modem ip address is 192.168.0.1 and my router is 192.168.1.1. I am not very educated on the dns gateway subnet thing -- note I am calling it a thing. If you can help me out that would be great. Also, I am not completely sure if what I want is called an ethernet bridge. I am pretty sure my dns ip is wrong. I set gateway 1.1.1.1 because the tv says 0.0.0.0 is invalid. I have read the wiki and some forum posts but they are commandline solutions and I prefer graphical.
Marking as solved since tv does not even support this type of setup.

The EU40EH5300K TV is a model from 2012, and is compatible with the STC-2000 and STC-3000 model cameras. These are a little hard to find as Samsung has discontinued production of them.
Unfortunately the STC-4000 and STC-5000 (2014 and 2015 cameras) are NOT compatible with this TV.

  • Access Connections - disable WiFi on Wired Connect with docking station

Issue: Need to auto switch without user interaction from Wired to WiFi and back to Wired.
Example - User leaves desk/docking station with wired LAN to a meeting on WiFi then returns to their desk/dock. Laptop may hit sleep mode on these steps as well.
I'm moving from Dell to Lenovo and new to AC - so far no luck disabling WiFi on Wired connect. It's a breeze with Intel PROset + "adapter switching" and can be done manually with Dell Wifi drivers ("disable on Wired Connect"). I assumed Thinkvantage Access Conentions would actually be more robust than these. Should we just use PROset even though it doesn;t ship with the systems nor is a download for Lenovo T-Series? PROset method - http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-028815.htm
Working to achieve this as a managed policy for many computers. AC looks great but wish it had this setting like Intel PROset!!!

Hi Tpad-rex, welcome to the forums,
Please take a look at the profile settings in access connections. (Select the profile and choose edit profile). In the profile you should have two adapters showing; LAN and WLAN, make sure that the LAN is above the WLAN in the priority list. I'm guessing you have it the other way around, did you maybe set it up as a WLAN connection first??

  • How to setup wired network with G4, MBP and PC

Sorry to ask a bit of a stupid question here, but I've never had to network machines together so I'm starting from a knowledge level close to zero.
Situation. Old G4 (733) and new (intel) Mac Book Pro in one room. New PC (Dell) in another room with a wired router connected to internet. PC is also connected to a laserprinter. Hard wire ethernet cable running between the rooms to connect either the G4 or the MBP to the internet. Both the G4 and the MBP have only one ethernet connection. MBP is wireless, as is the PC. The G4 is not.
First off, I'd like to network the MBP and the G4. I believe ethernet is the best way to do this, but if I do that, how would I then connect to the internet? Would I just have a second router in the Mac room with the 2 Mac's hooked up to it and the other end going back to the router that's connected to the internet? I'd rather stay hard-wired than go wireless if at all possible. I do most of my internet work through the MBP, but some must be done through the G4, ie software updates, as the G4 has a lot more programs on it.
Second question, how would I then network to the PC in the other room? It would be nice to move files, photographs for instance, between the Macs and the PC. I'd also like to access the lazerprinter which is in that room, connected to the PC.
Hoping this is a simple question with a simple answer.
    Thanks!

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
What you are describing is all possible, but, I am going to assign you some reading. This way, you'll be able to deal with your own particular needs, like a Pro.
The following will get you up to speed on networks, and various hardware needed:
    http://www.atpm.com/network/setup/index.html
    http://compnetworking.about.com/od/homenetworking/HomeNetworking_Setting_Up_a_HomeNetwork.htm
    http://www.apple.com/support/tiger/network/
Adding the PC into the network has some special considerations. the following sites have good info for setting up such a network:
    http://www.mac-connect.com/
    http://www.apple.com/business/mac_pc/tutorials.html
For my needs, I have a switched ethernet network. All computers are connected to the switch, as is the modem, by ethernet cable. This allows computer to computer networking using AppleTalk. With the same cabling and switch, the computers are all able to connect to the internet using DHCP, or, one at a time using PPPoE.
These are all Mac's, but, with some setting adjustments, a PC can also be placed in a similar network.
As well, adding a wireless connection for one computer is possible. This would require a wireless base station to be connected to the switch. The wireless capable computer would then be able to enter the network, and vice-versa. Of course, the settings for all the hardware and software are the key. The settings can have variables, depending on what is connected, and how the connections are made. Another variable is your router/modem, and your internet service providers policies on multiple connections.
Adding the printer depends on the capabilities of the printer. Often, it is only possible to share a printer through a computer. A network capable printer can be connected to the switch, directly, or to a wireless base station, and then shared by all on the network.

  • Having trouble bridging wired connection with Airport Express

I've had an Airport Express Base Station for a little while, really only using it to wirelessly print and stream my music.
I'm at my college now, and there's a campus wide wired network. I've been trying to bridge this network so I can wirelessly connect to the internet with my laptop, Nintendo DS and eventually Nintendo Wii. The problem is that I can only get the orange blinking light on the AEBS, I don't have the software that came with it (though I have the Airport Admin and Setup stuff under Utilities), and the computer doesn't seem to recognize the base station at all.
I'm an idiot, I'm pretty certain, but is there something easy I am overlooking here? Will an AEBS not bridge a wired network unless it's cable or DSL? I'm unclear on exactly what kind of network my college uses.
    thanks!

Most likely your college's network is providing NAT/DHCP services. I suggest that you set up your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a "wireless bridge."
To set up the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a bridge, using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, make these settings:
    Network tab
    - Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
    - Apply the new setting.
    - Wait at least 5 minutes.

  • Slow wired connection with WRT54G

    My ISP is Comcast.
I'm using their modem which includes my digital voice connection. From there I'm wired straight to the WRT54G and from there I'm wired to my PC. However, when I connect from the Comcast modem to my PC I get download speeds of 12mbps and when I connect from the WRT54G (wired) it drops to 1mbps or even 786kbps.
I've tried resetting the modem and the router. I've tried changing the MTU. I have the latest firmware version (v8.0.2). The last resort is getting a new cable modem (suggested in the forums) but I think that's out of the question since my digital voice is connected to the Comcast modem.
Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Please state the make and exact model number of your modem (not the WRT54G).
Using an ethernet cable, wire your computer directly to the modem (not the WRT54G).  Verify that you have a properly working Internet connection.  Then do the following:
Go to "Start" > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
A black DOS box will appear. Type in "ipconfig /all" (with no quotes), then hit the Enter key.  Copy all the results to your next post, except that if your "IP address" does not start with 192, then post only the first 3 digits of your "IP address" along with the rest of the info.

  • [SOLVED] No wireless connection with linux-3.2.2-1

After upgrading to linux-3.2.2-1, my wireless connection stopped working. It "connects", but I can't get an IP address through dhcp. Assigning an IP manually doesn't do the trick, I can't even reach the router through ping.
Downgrading to 3.2.1-2 fixes the issue.
I suspect this may be a regression but I couldn't find any information or reports of other people having the same problem anywhere.
I should note that I can establish a working connection when running the new kernel by using an external USB wireless device, so this probably has to do with the modules/drivers of my network card (?).
This is the ouput of some commands when running the new kernel (wlan1 is the device mentioned avobe):

You must not have searched very long then, because you've missed not one, but two threads:

  • [SOLVED] Forcedeth wired connection problems

    Thanks, skanky.
    Solution, in my case was:
    (as root)
    systemctl start dhcpcd@eth0
    Ok, so.
After the latest kernel update, my internet connection doesn't work at all.
I have turned it on/off, checked cables, and it's clearly a problem on the inside.
    ifconfig:
    eth0: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500

    iwconfig:

I didn't need to configure my network when I first installed arch, so I have as much as no clue of what I'm supposed to do...
    Mind helping...? :(

  • Setup Client Connection with certificates

    Hi,
We need assistance in setting the Clients with Certificates. By Clients we mean, the SharePoint Server Farm where the Application are running for the FAST SEARCH to crawl them.
    We have two Virtual Machines,
    1. Sharepoint 2010 installed and the Applications running
    2. Windows 2008 R2 based system with SQL Server Express 2008 Edition and FAST ESP Search and FSIS installed
We have completed the below mentioned steps
Installed FAST ESP Search with all Pre-requisites and Service Packs/Updates successfully
Installed FSIS Host Controller and running successfully
Executed the PowerShell Script to install and run CTS and IMS using the below PowerShell Script
.\InstallConfig.ps1 -action I -espSdkDir C:\SDK -secureStorageDir C:\SECURE -serviceAccount SLBDOM\Administrator -createGroups -createKeys -installKeys –enableCertificateSecurity
    We need assistance in
    1. Setting Up Client Certificates
    2. Installing FASTSharePointConnector.msi
Can Someone let us know any blog or documentation that tells us how to perform the above two steps.
    Thanks
    Ram
    Thanks Ram

I think what you are asking about is XML Digital Signatures (XML-DSig). This lets you sign Web services messages with a digital signature that can then be, potentially verified, against other authentication/authoritization mechanisms like LDAP.
The specification relating XML-DSig to Web services is managed by OASIS called Web Services Security. Oracle
sits on this standards group and has plans to implement it as it becomes a standard. For current specifications on this check out:
    http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/wss/documents/WSS-Core-04-1117.pdf
For Oracle's plans in this area, check out this presentation at:
    http://www.oracle.com/pls/oow/oow_user.show_public?p_event=13&p_type=session&p_session_id=38930
See the last few slides for a roadmap after you read through the use cases.
I realize you would prefer code samples and unfortunately I don't have any ... but hopefully this points you in the right direction ... The bottom line, if I understand your question, is that the specs are just emerging for this and if you want to do it now, it really is a roll-your-own solution that you can then retrofit in the standards as they emerge.
    Mike.

  • How to setup WinME TCP with wired connection to WRT54G?

I have a WinME computer that I'm trying to connect directly (via network cable) to a WRT54G router. I have an XP computer connected directly to the router and another XP connected via a wireless router, but I can't seem to figure out the settings to get the internet connection on the WinME computer to work, though the network neighborhood is working fine. I tried before to get a wireless connection on the WinME computer, but was unsuccessful (same thing; the network neighborhood worked fine; tried the internet access fix with Winsock to no avail). Now that I've moved all of the computers together into the same room, I thought I would try again using a direct connection, but I can't remember what the settings are for the network TCP/IP protocol? Putting the router's IP address in the gateway block does not seem to do anything. I can't even remember where I found all of the info before.
Can someone point me in the right direction?

I'm not using static addresses (except for the router). Here's the setup:
    Internet Connection Type Static IP
    Internet IP Address: . . . 206.183.182.233
    Subnet Mask: . . . 255.255.255. 0
    Gateway: . . . 206.183.182. 1
    Static DNS 1: . . . 206.183.176. 2
    Static DNS 2: . . . 216.168. 84. 2
    Network Setup
    Local IP Address: . . . 192.168. 5. 1
    Subnet Mask: . . . 255.255.255. 0
    Network Address Server Settings (DHCP)
    DHCP Server: Enable
    Starting IP Address . . . 192.168. 5.100
I've tried both IE and Firefox. I have tried using static IPs to no avail. What should the DNS and gateway settings on the WinME computer be?
    Thanks!

  • Solved. Travel router WTR54GS sharing one wireless hotspot connection with multiple devices

Hi, Passing on info I've learned.
The manual for the WTR54GS mentions being able to "...use multiple devices on a single hotspot account in a coffee shop or airport lounge...". See my original posting, "How to set up a wireless private bubble at paid hotspot? WTR54GS?", which ended in a dead end. I subsequently had a Linksys live chat session and the representative provided the solution. Perhaps worthy to be included in the Wireless FAQ?
Situation: you have access to a paid hotspot (hotel room, meeting room, etc.) and you want to share the connection with several devices, also wirelessly.
Solution: the WTR54GS can accept an incoming Internet connection wirelessely and re-broadcast that connection to form your own private bubble or network. (Note the WTR54GS can also accept an incoming Internet connection via Ethernet cable).
Linksys Live Chat pointed me to these web pages.
Go to the Linksys Easy Answers page: For a schematic of the concept of "associating the travel router to a hotspot (wirelessly)" search for Easy Answer ID# 4831
    URL for above is http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4831&p_created=1167963305&p_sid=GmLnq3Zi&p_accessibility=0&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NjImcF9wcm9kcz0wJnBfY2F0cz0xNzIxLDE3MjMmcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0yLjE3MjMmcF9zY2ZfbGFuZz0xJnBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9V1RSNTRHUw**&p_li=&p_topview=1
There is a "configuration simulator" that shows the options for selecting a wired or wireless incoming Internet Type.
    http://linksys.com/ui/files/WTR54GS/1.0_15/Setup-Wireless.htm
The hotspot has to be "open", that is transmitting an SSID and with no WEP or WPA key. It may have a log-in page accessible via a web browser, this is okay as this will be passed onto the connected device.
My personal application is to be able to connect a PDA that has a 801.2b wifi to a 801.2g wireless network. I haven't tried it but if this works, it will extend the useful life of my PDA in a "g" environment. Will report back once I find a "g" only environment. Comments?

There are two conditions which must be met in order to use your WTR54GS to "extend" an incoming, wireless internet connection:
    The incoming connection must be unsecured.  You have already covered this point;
The security settings on your WTR54GS can only be set to "WEP," or to "Disabled."  If you choose "WEP," then you can use either a 40/64-bit, or a 128-bit key.
If those two conditions have been met, then it works fine -- says the guy who is sharing one paid internet conneciton in his hotel amongst three devices, and with co-workers in nearby rooms.
