Parts discontinued in MRP

Hi All,
How parts discontinued is work with BOM application. In my case if am putting discontinued indicator 1 for main material and 3 for dependent material, its giving required result. But as per SAP given help, if my using discontinued group with this indicator, in MRP the requirement is not generated. Why this is so? I had gone through SAP help as per given example. Plz suggest.
Regards,
Rajesh

Dear,
In MRP4 of discontinution material master enter the followup material and date from which it will be discontinued, from that day the requirement will be passed to new material.
You need to enter the discontinuation group in material to be discontued and followup material group in material which is going to be replaced.
See the link below
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/a0/1016bd4c8311d189520000e829fbbd/frameset.htm
see the example, there are two types
1: Discontinued Item (Simple Discontinuation)
In simple discontinuation, the discontinued item 0010 (material M-1) is replaced with the follow-up item 0010 (material M-2) and 0010 (material M-3).
In the material master of material M-1, the discontinuation indicator is set to 1.
Item   Material    Discont. group Follow-up group
0010-M-1--
A1
0010-M-2--
A1
0010-M-3--
A1
Example 2: Discontinued Item (Parallel Discontinuation)
In parallel discontinuation, the discontinued items 0010 (material M-1) and 0010 (material M-2) are replaced by follow-up item 0010 (material M-3).
Material M-1 is the main material to be discontinued (discontinuation indicator 1) and material M-2 is the subordinate material to be discontinued (discontinuation indicator 3). Material M-3 is the follow-up item.
Item  Material  Discont. group  Follow-up group
0010M-1--
A1
0010--M-2 -
A1
0010M-3--

Example 3: Follow-Up Item
In simple discontinuation, item 0010 (material M-2) replaces 0010 (material M-1).
Item   Material    Discont. group  Follow-up group
0010-M-1--
E1
0010-M-2--

Please come back if required with questions on the examples given above so that it will be clear to you.

  • Discontinued parts in BoM explosion reports

I am having difficulty with the BoM explosion reports (CS11-13, and CSP1-3), in that they seem to take no notice of discontinuation.  In particular we have some assemblies which are discontinued, and replaced by alternative parts with a different sub-assembly BoM.  It does not seem possible to explode through the new BoM - the reports appear to continue to use the obsolete assembly.
Am I doing something wrong?  It would seem clear that the reports should explode the BoM through the new assemblies, particularly if there is no stock of the obsolete part.
Is there an alternative way to get a BoM explosion report which does take note of the discontinuation data?

    Hi,
In my opinion discontinuation is considered only during MRP run (planning) and has nothing to do with BOM reports (CS03, CS11, CS12, CSMB, etc).
    SAP online help:
If this indicator is set, the material is defined as 'to be discontinued'. The material is then discontinued in MRP. MRP transfers dependent requirements that are no longer covered by stock of this material to the follow-up material.
So, I think you won't see the follow-up material in BOM reports. Even if you maintain the discountinuation in BOM I think you cannot see the actual sitruation in BOM reports (you will see both follow-up and discontinued material).
I hope I'm mistaken and this is a solved issue in SAP.

  • Discontinued part and follow up material

    Dear Guru,
How to use discontinued and follow up material with effective date. I am using MTS Scenario.
    Please help.

    Sanjay Sahoo

    Hi Sanjay,
refer to the below link, it should answer your query:
Re: Discontinuation Indicator - Need Guidance
In addition to the above details:
In material master for the material which is being discontinued, in MRP-4 view you need to maintain discontinuation indicator, effective-out date & Follow-up material.
If you need any additional info, revert.

  • Replenishment delivery for material with MRP areas and Avl Check

HI We have MRP area at storage location level maintained for materials. Stock exists in the plant in the storage location which is part of the MRP area.
Now when I create STO and try to create delivery for the same, system is giving message 0 stock available and not creating delivery. Material has 02 Avl Chck group. If I deactivate the MRP area in the material master, it allows creation of delivery.
How can I ensure that system creates delivery even though stocks exist in MRP area relevant sloc only in the plant?
    Sriram

    1) According to SAP when inbound deliveries are used and your delivery item category is set up for mvt type 101, these should be received with transaction VL32N. If you use MIGO/MB0A instead the GR status in the delivery will not be updated. If you then report on open deliveries you'll notice that nothing is received in the course of time. Amazing. Now if you set up the delivery item category without the movement type your inbound will not even be GR relevant. Just one of these things that's nice to be aware of.
    Check note 199703.

I am sure you have already moved on from this issue, but what you mention is a limitation prior to ECC 6.  You can not identify on the purchasing document the source sloc of the supplying plant.  This is why you can not create the STO between sloc MRP areas.  I was told this was resolved in ECC 6.

  • MRP Planning

    Hi,
We have an issue where the part created the purchase requistion and gets rescheduled daily and thus the Release date in the purchase requistion gets Changed daily. As of result of which, the PR is not falling within a varint which is used to convert PR into PO.
Part is not used in any BOM and there are no open orders or sales orders for this part. MRP considered this part and created a PR as the safety stock has been consumed. Now whenever MRP runs(MRP runs daily), the requirement date gets Changed automatically, though there is no entry observed in planning file.Backward scheduling is applied in this case.
Your thoughts on this issue is appreciated!
MRP type for the part is PD - MRP
    Safety stock is in negative
Planning mode 1 - Adapt Planning data (Normal) in MD03.
Planning file entry - no MRP planning type is checked
let me know if I am missing anything!
    Thanks

    Hello
On the tab "Quantities/dates" you should check the flag "Fixed ID" so that MRP won't change the requisition anymore.

  • MRP profile custom field addition

    Dear experts,
Is it possible to add a field to the MRP profile list of fields that come in MMD1/MMD2? I observed that not all the fields that appear in the material master MRP views are part of the MRP profile.

  • Specify a valid MRP procedure

    hi all,
While i am doing MRP/CBP, at MMR in MRP1
    for MRP procedure i gave
    MRP type = VB
    for Lot size data
    Lot size = HB
but system is showing a error "specify a valid mrp procedure"
Hw can i solve this issue

    Madhu,
I have never seen that message. Have you ever successfully run MRP in this plant using any MRP type?  (MRP will not execute without first being configured)
MRP procedure is defined as part of the MRP type (OMDQ).  I tried the combination of VB/HB on two different systems, with no problems.  Is it possible that someone has altered either the MRP type VB (which should have MRP procedure 'B'), or the Lot size HB, on your system?

  • Creation of alternative material in production

    Dear folks,
    I have following requirements:
Customer orders Material A and for some reason (e.g. low stocks), the mrp controller decides to produce an alternative material (B) which is
equal to Material A. This also counts for planned independent requirements.
How can I maintain this in SAP? I tried to use alternative item group in the BOM, but this does not solve my requirement, since this is just a function to assign an alternative BOM position for Material A. I really need to assign an alternative material on header level.
The assignment has to take place before actual production. We cannot use Material Determination (SD) - Transaction VB11.
Any ideas? Is this something we have to develop?
    Kind regards,
    Peter

  • Scheduling agreement, unnecessary delivery schedule lines

    Hello
We use Scheduling agreements for purchasing spare parts. The MRP run checks the warehouse requirements and creates delivery schedule line to scheduling agreement.
Now the MRP run creates unnecessary delivery schedule lines to scheduling agreement if the earlier created delivery schedule line's delivery date has been changed manually.
    For example,
Today the MRP run finds requirement for one article  and creates the delivery schedule line, where delivery date is 2.9.2008 (determined from articles basic data).
The Vendor confirms the delivery date as 3.10.2008 and the purchaser changes manually  (transaction ME38) the delivery date to delivery schedule line accordingly and prints the created message.
The next MRP run creates new delivery schedule line, where delivery date is again 2.9.2008.
now there are two open delivery schedule lines for this article with delivery dates 3.10.2008 and 2.9.2008.
Why the MRP run does not notice the existing delivery schedule line with the new delivery date 3.10.2008?
we have changed delivery dates manually several years and this has never happened before.
could you please help me to resolve this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Srikanth

In addition to the above post,
as you changed the date manually from 2nd to 3rd....
so there are was no report for 2nd generated ulitmately...and if generated it was changed...right...
so when you again run the mrp...the system will generate one more pr for the same article....
this ultimately happens because of the set del dates in the MMR as i told above..
    Hope it helps..
    Regards

  • Planning file entry and purchase orders

    Hi all:
The documentation for MRP planning states that the planning file entry is updated for relevant changes to the material that includes among other things creation of purchase orders for the material.
In our system, MRP requisition creation does update table MDVM as part of the MRP run. However, purchase order creation does not update the planning file entry, even though the documentation says it should.
Anyone ever encounter this? Are there controls that need to be set?
    thanks in advance
    weston

Not sure where you had read that a Purchase order creation updates the PFE. Have a look at this.

  • Sope of planning /qouta Arrangement

    Hi PP expert.
i want to under stand scope of planning. there are two finish material type, one MTO and another is MTS.and have 4 production plant.
now for the MTS  i want run one  MRP  for 4 plant. can i do from Scope of planning or Quota Arrangement.
kindly  Guide  me step be step of both scope of planning and quota Arrangement.what is difference in both.and which process  is easy. and how i will send Demand managment to all  4 plant for MRP run.in both case.
Now for MTO.same there are 4 plant and want run only one MRP.can i do from scope of planning or Quota Arrangement.
kindly guide me for both MTO and MTS.only one MRP run for 4 plant
    Regards
    Aqueel

    Aqueel,
You have asked about many topics.  It is not clear what exact business objective you are trying to accomplish.
Quota arrangements has to do with the determination of  sources of supply.  It is not the same as running MRP in multiple plants.
MRP in ECC normally runs plant-by-plant.  You can create a scope of planning, in which you specify the order of plants that MRP runs against.  In this case, you execute MRP once, and in the background, MRP looks at the list of plants you have created, and then runs against the first plant, the second plant, the third plant, and so on.  During the MRP job with Scope of Planning, the MRP processing programs do not run against multiple plants simultaneously, they complete one plant, and then move onto the next, and so on, until the end of the scope of planning list.  You can configure scope of planning in OM0E.
Now you ask about two types of planning methods for materials, one is MTO and one is MTS.  I guess you want to run MRP for the MTS only, against the 4 plants.  You could define the MTS materials as MPS relevant, (change MRP type to M*) and then run an MPS job instead of an MRP job.  In this case, MPS (MD40 et al), which is very similar to MRP, runs only against the MPS parts.  If this workaround is not satisfactory, then you can use the standard MRP selection userexit (M61X0001) to define a specific suite of parts to run MRP against (such as "all MTS parts").  If you combine either of these solutions (MPS or userexit) with scope of planning, you can then run only the MTS parts against the 4 plants in your scope of planning, all in one job.  You didn't speak of when/how you want to run the MTO parts, but you could do the same thing for these parts as well.
If, however, you wish to run both MTS and MTO parts in a single MRP run, against 4 plants, then just use scope of planning.
Demand management is not directly related to MRP.  You can create Planned independent requirements for any combination of parts that you desire.  These requirements, once activated, will cause MRP to run net requirements calculations, and produce procurement proposals (PurchReqs or PlndOrds or PurchScheds).

  • Semifin Production for internal AND external customers

One of our plants produces semifin goods that are then transferred via Stock Transport Orders to other plants that finish them up.
That plant would like to be able to also sell these same materials to outside customers. Normally, we would use PIRs for that purpose, however, these materials are all set up as dependent requirements, to be produced against STOs entered at the other plants.
How could we create some additional requirements for production for external customers? Right now we have been using a defunct plant and created STOs from there, but it doesn't really work, especially the billing side of it. We considered creating a Sales Order Type that can be entered ahead of time to produce against. I don't know much about the S&D side, and the dude that tried that finally gave up.
Is there an easier solution that would take care of this situation?
    Thanks,
    MMPP

This sounds strange. STOs - independently from planning startegy - are present as requirements in standard system.
Perhaps in your standard system. Our standard system for FG production is set up as MTS strategy 11, and no, STO's are not taken into account there, as strange as it sounds.
If you use planning strategy 40 you can work with PIRs, SOs, STOs paralelly. You can even achieve to force STOs to behave as SOs (I mean to consume PIRs based on master data settings) in this strategy.
Stock transport orders in planning strategy 40 - consume PIR
Yes, but I can not use strategy 40. Like I mentioned, we deal with perishable goods, and can not make existing stock part of the MRP calculation.
In my opinion you should revise your way of thinking / current pratice since you would gain more profit if you applied standard scenarios instead of force something that cannot be defined exactly.
I am sorry that our situation is different from what you define as your standard scenario.
I mean if your SFGs are considered as FGs (because you sell them to external customers) you should handle them accordingly.
It is probably a bit difficult to understand. But these are semifinished goods that we want to sell to outside customers (who might treat them as raw materials). Not everything in this world can be clearly divided into three categories. Again, I apologize that our situation doesn't conform to what you consider standard.
Why do you want to work only with DepReqs? I cannot understand this...
98% of what that plant will produce are DepReqs = semifinished goods to fulfill STOs from other plants. Does that explain it somewhat?
As I said you should handle the materials as they are handled in reality.
I appreciate your reply... it's a good answer, just not to my question.

  • BOM Component Validity

    Dear All,
Can we add the functionality to the BOM Component that Component will be effective till the available quantity becomes null?
    Regards,
    Shailendra

    Hi,
    The answer is NO.
But you can use the DISCONTINUATION functionality (MRP 4 view) to get "use up to existing stock coverage".

  • Engineering Change Management - Effectivity Types

    Hello Forum members,
we want to make our BOM Engineering Changes being dependent from material stocks.
The process is the following: A BOM material shall be exchanged only after the old material's stock is depleted, e.g. a steel holder shall be replaced by a aluminum holder only after the existing stock of the steel holder is depleted. The use of a fixed date is therefore not helpful.
We are thinking about how we could implement this dynamic Effectivity Type that is linked to the MM inventory. Has anybody ever done such thing or something comparable? Any ideas of how this could be done?
    Thanks for your suggestions!
    Marcus

    Hi Marcus,
Actually you need to 2 separate things to get what you want:
    1) use discontinuation functionality (MRP 4 view) to use existing stock when you a follow up material, or a group of follow up materials. This means that the system will not generate new supply elements for the discontinued material, but use all the existing supply. In this stage the BOM is not changed yet.
    2) after the stock is used up, or when you get a clear picture from planning and (1) on the date when it happens, then you create an ECM with that date and change the BOM accordingly.
    Regards,
    Mario
