Passing values to a VI that is open dynamically?

Hi!
I need to pass values to a VI that I am openning dynamically.  I tried to open the VI and then pass the values as if it were a subVI.  This works, but has some problems.  The calling VI is "stuck" in the event case until the VI that is called is properly closed.  What I want to do is open the VI, pass the values to the VI, and then allow the user to close/stop that VI if they want or just minimize it and go back to the main VI.
I tried to do this using Shared Variables, and that worked, but it seems like there should be a better way to do this.  This project does not really need shared variables.
Attached is an image of where I am currently at by openning the VI and then passing the values as if it were a subVI.  Just thought of something:  it would also be nice if I didn't have to do any file/path name coding.  I don't like how that file name is now hard-coded into the block diagram for that VI.  I like how subVIs update their name automatically from within the same project.
Thanks for your help!

This topic is not a simple one, but there are several ways to do this and the correct solution basically depends on what it is you actually want to do. Here are some relevant points. It's definitely not coming close to properly covering the topic:
What you're doing now is irrelevant - you could just call the subVI and set its FP to open when called.
You can get the path by doing this:
You can run the VI dynamically by using the call by reference node, but that will also make your event loop wait for the call to be over.
You can use a message handler or a queued state machine running in another loop to open the VI. You can see some examples in LabVIEW's File>>New dialog or on the web. Here's one example.
You can communicate between VIs using notifiers, queues or LabVIEW 2 style globals (example).
I suspect that in your case, what you want can be accomplished by running the VI as a parallel process (simply place it outside your main loop) and then use invoke nodes to open its FP when needed. You can get a reference to it by using the static VI reference object found in the Application Control palette. You can communicate with it using any of the methods mentioned in the previous bullet.
I suggest you do some searching for methods for communicating between VIs. There is a lot of material online.
Try to take over the world!

  • Passing values to form bean string array from dynamic added textboxes

    Hi,
    I am unable to pass values to form bean string array from a jsp in which I have incorporated dynamically adding of textboxes in javascript.
    I have given add/delete row option in the jsp. If there is single row, this is working fine. But after adding a row, I am not able to either do any validations on added textboxes or pass the values to the String array form bean variable.
    code snippet:
    var cell6 = row.insertCell(4);
    var element5 = document.createElement("input");
    element5.type = "text";
    element5.className = "formtext1";
    element5.size = "5";
    element5.value = "00.00";
    element5.name= "qty"; // this is a string array of the form bean.
    element5.onchange=function() {checkNumeric(this);};
    cell6.appendChild(element5);
    <html:text styleClass="formtext1" property="qty" value="" size="5" styleId="qty" onchange="checkNumeric(this)"/></td>

    Shivanand,
    There's no need to post that much code when you could create a very short test case that demonstrates only the problem you are having.
    You're using &NAME. notation on something that isn't a page or application item. You can't reference PL/SQL variables that way (or any other way) outside the PL/SQL scope. For your situation, you could create a page item named P55_DOCID and assign it a value in the PL/SQL process (:P55_DOCID := DOCID;), then reference &P55_DOCID. in HTML areas like the success message.

  • Passing values to subreport that has many records?

    I have a report with a subreport in it and that subreport is a bill that includes things like name, address, etc. My report will run the subreport many times for each bill that comes up.
    I am needing to pass values to text objects in these individual subreports that is information that is obtained in the code. My code works fine when this subreport is ran on it's own but I'm having trouble figuring out how to change the code up to put the information into individual subreports. Here is a simple example of some of my code:
    using (PrintBills reportPrintBills = new PrintBills())
        using (CrystalReportBill reportBill = new CrystalReportBill())
            CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.TextObject lblBalanceDue = ((CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.TextObject)reportBill.Summary.ReportObjects["lblBalanceDue"]);
            CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.TextObject lblName = ((CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.TextObject)reportBill.Summary.ReportObjects["lblName"]);
            DataSet ds = new DataSet();
            GetBills(ref ds, "Bills", date);
            DataView dvID = new DataView(ds.Tables["Bills"]);
            num = 0;
            foreach (DataRowView rowID in dvID)
                GetBioInfo(ref ds, "BioData", id);
                DataRow row = ds.Tables["BioData"].Rows[num];
                lblName.Text = row["Stu_Name"].ToString();
                lblBalanceDue.Text = String.Format("{0:C}", row["Amount_Due"]);
                num++;
        reportPrintBills.SetParameterValue("@tblMonth", date);
        reportPrintBills.SetParameterValue("@begdate", strBegdate);
        reportPrintBills.SetParameterValue("@enddate", strEnddate);
        //Export to PDF code here
    reportBill does not display the values obviously. Somehow I need to set that reportBill is a subreport of reportPrintBills in the code so that each record will recognize the TextObject values that I am sending to them.
    Another solution I've tried is adding parameter fields to reportBill and reportPrintBills and linking them up and then passing values like so:
    foreach (DataRowView rowCWID in dvCWID)
        GetBioInfo(ref ds, "BioData", id);
        DataRow row = ds.Tables["BioData"].Rows[num];
        name = row["Stu_Name"].ToString();
        amtDue = String.Format("{0:C}", row["Amount_Due"]);
        reportPrintBills.SetParameterValue("@strName", name);
        reportPrintBills.SetParameterValue("@strAmtDue", amtDue);
        num++;
    But the value stays the same in all of the subreports rather than changing with each pass through.

    Open the report up in the Designer and Click on Edit, Subreport Links. Likely what you can do is use Shared Variables to pass values from the main report to the subreport.
    You need to do this in the report first. If you are using RAS then you can at runtime. If RAS is not available to you then no way in code.

  • PleaseHELP!: pass value asp to xfdf, open pdf form prepopulated

    Hi - we're Using Acrobat/Designer 7.0.  Please help..<br /><br />Still working on the passing value from ASP to pdf form.  <br /><br />What I have so far, based on helpful info from this forum, is the following code {see below}  <br /><br />This code prompts to save, then opens the asp page with the value "0000000000000000" as text. <br /><br />My hope is to pass the value and open the pdf form w/o prompting, & to have the identifier field prepopulated.<br /><br />I've tried this with a pdf and xdp form, neither works. What am i doing wrong?  Samples are most welcome. This is rather urgent, as I want to avoid manually creating 100s of pre-populated pdf forms for e-mail.<br /><br />Thanks much, ginger<br /><br />'======================================================================<br /><%@ LANGUAGE = VBScript%><br /><% Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.xdp+xml" %> <br /><br /><?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><br /><?xfdf xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/xfdf/" xml:space="preserve"<br /><?xfa generator="XFA2_0" APIVersion="2.2.4333.0"?><br /><xdp:xdp xmlns:xdp="Http://ns.adobe.com/xdp/"><br /><xfa:datasets xmlns:xfa="http://www.xfa.org/schema/xfa-data/1.0/"><br /><xfa:data><br /><fields><br />     <field name="Identifier"<br />          <value>0000000000000000</value><br />     </field><br /></fields><br /><br /><f href="http://localroot/test/applicantform.xdp"><br /><br /></xfa:data><br /></xfa:datasets><br /></xfdf><br /></xdp:xdp>

    I am working on this same problem too and after playing with the code above, I found *a solution*.  I am not sure it is exactly what you want to do but it works nonetheless.  It does not prompt the user to download the document because I took out the Content-Disposition header.<br /><br />This is just some proof of concept code in C#:<br /><br />protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {<br />     string xml = "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\"?><xfdf xmlns=\"http://ns.adobe.com/xfdf/\" xml:space=\"preserve\"><f href=\"http://SERVERNAMEHERE/TestPDF.pdf\"/><fields><field name=\"CompanyName\"><value>It Worked!</value></field></fields></xfdf>";<br /><br />     Response.Clear();<br />     Response.ContentType = "application/x-pdf";<br />     Response.AddHeader("Content-Type", "application/vnd.adobe.xfdf");<br />     System.Text.ASCIIEncoding ascii = new System.Text.ASCIIEncoding();<br />     Response.AddHeader("Content-Header", xml.Length.ToString());<br />     Response.BinaryWrite(ascii.GetBytes(xml));<br />     Response.End();<br />}<br /><br />If I run that code, it does actually work and puts "It Worked!" in a form field I named CompanyName in the test PDF document I created.  From playing with it, it does look like you have to pass it the full URL to your source PDF document -- at least I couldn't get it to work if I just entered the PDF document name and not the full URL (even though the PDF was in the same directory as my page).<br /><br />Hope this helps somebody.

  • How to pass values in select statement as a parameter?

    Hi,
    Very simple query, how do I pass the values that i get in the cursor to a select statement. If table1 values are 1,2,3,4 etc , each time the cursor goes through , I will get one value in the variable - Offer
    So I want to pass that value to the select statement.. how do i do it?
    the one below does not work.
    drop table L1;
    create table L1
    (col1 varchar(300) null) ;
    insert into L1 (col1)
    select filter_name from table1 ;
    SET SERVEROUTPUT ON;
    DECLARE
    offer table1.col1%TYPE;
    factor INTEGER := 0;
    CURSOR c1 IS
    SELECT col1 FROM table1;

    LOOP
    FETCH c1 INTO offer;
    EXIT WHEN c1%NOTFOUND;
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(offer);
    select * from table1 f where f.filter_name =:offer ;
    factor := factor + 1;
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(factor);
    END LOOP;
    CLOSE c1;
    END;

    Hi User,
    You are looking somethuing like this, as passing the values to the Cursor as a Paramter.

  • Using Form to pass value to query parameters in the selct part of query

    I created a form in Access 2007 to pass 2 values to an Access query.  I am doing this to create delimited output (very large) with the parameters included in the selected data. The select works and is something like this:
    SELECT "^"+!FORM!EXPORT2DAT!PREF_VALUE+"_"+Replace(UCase([column_1])," ","_")+"^|" AS OUTPUT_column1, "^"+!FORM!EXPORT2DAT!COMPANY_VALUE+[COLUMN_3]+"
    ([COMPANY_VALUE])"+"^|" AS OUTPUT_column2,....................
    The form has text boxes for the values I want to pass PREF_VALUE and COMPANY_VALUE to the query parameters, and an execute button to open the query when clicked.
    However when I enter the values and click the execute button, I still get the parameter boxes for the 2 parameters. 1 for this: !FORM!EXPORT2DAT!PREF_VALUE, and FORM!EXPORT2DAT!COMPANY_VALUE. I thought I was filling in with the form text box values.
    Can I use the form's text boxes to pass values to concatenated using(+) columns in the select part of the query as I'm doing above?
    Thanks in advance for your response.

    I have never seen a select statement like that!
    For query criteria I would use this --
       [FORMS]![EXPORT2DAT]![PREF_VALUE]
                   and              [FORMS]![EXPORT2DAT]![COMPANY_VALUE]

  • Can we pass values when hyperlinking a classic report column?

    Version 4.2.1 (builder blue)
    Hi there,
    I have a classic report in which I have hyperlinked a column, using the standard link option in the report settings. In that we can also pass on values to to page that the linked report opens. However, I notice when I pop up the window for the value to be passed, it only lists the #XY# contents of the report. Lets say, I have created the link on page1 which when clicked opens Page 2,
    I want to pass the value of :P1_PERIOD to :P2_PERIOD
    Can we not do that through the link? If I just put the value in Item1 as P2_PERIOD and populate it with :P1_PERIOD, wouldn't that work?
    Thanks,

    Can we not do that through the link?Yes, you can, but not using that syntax.
    If I just put the value in Item1 as P2_PERIOD and populate it with :P1_PERIOD, wouldn't that work?No, <tt>:P1_PERIOD</tt> is referencing the item using bind variable notation. That's only for use in SQL and PL/SQL contexts within APEX. Elsewhere in APEX (HTML source, links and branches etc) you need to reference item values using static text substitution:
    &P1_PERIOD.(Note the terminating dot.)
    Put <tt>P2_PERIOD</tt> in Item 1 Name and <tt>&P1_PERIOD.</tt> in Value.

  • RRI: BEX query to webadress(is SRM ITS base URL with passing value to it)

    Dear friends,
    I am doing RRI from query to webaddress,
    i have defined jump(report type: webaddress and reicver report as url) from shopping cart bex query(SRM ) to webaddres.
    here url is SRM ITS base link for monitoring shoppingcart(http://(hostname):(SRM port)/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/bbp_mon_sc?sap-client=200&sap-language=EN).
    jump is working from portal(from bex query ivew).
    but i want to pass value(shopping cart value) to above url and want to skip first screen.
    i have maintained assignment detail by assigning field name against shopping cart infoobject with type url parameter, but its not directly call reciver url with given input field.
    i tried the diffrent combination of url and field assignment as like below:
    1: web address url:http://(hostname):(SRM port)/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/bbp_mon_sc?sap-client=200&sap-language=EN
    assigned field: GS_HEADER-OBJECT_ID
    but when we call reciver url from portal bex ivew, only initial screen come with page url as below:
    http://(hostname):(SRM port)/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/bbp_mon_sc?sap-client=200&sap-language=EN?GS_HEADER-OBJECT_ID='selected number value'
    2: web address url:http://(hostname):(SRM port)/sap(cz1TSUQlM2FBTk9OJTNhc3JtZGV2X0lTRF8wMCUzYUdxdFNqdWdMS2xyTEFEelFTNFlWTnJXRjEzdy05UnhTWXl4TW03c3AtQVRU)/bc/gui/sap/its/bbp_mon_sc/~flNUQVRFPTgzMTcuMDAyLjAxLjAx====#jump_to_selected_sc

    I have seen the source code of that url(inital screen and after entring the value to that screen) too.
    how to call webadress(SRM ITS base shopping cart URL) with passing the one of field value of that url screen?
    Thanks and regards,
    Dushyant.

    Hi,
    i have replied wrong,
    i mean that
    when i am trying this,
    http://(hostname):(SRM port)/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/bbp_mon_sc?sap-client=200&sap-language=EN&GS_HEADER-OBJECT_ID='selected number value'
    with field assignment: shopping cart number = GS_HEADER-OBJECT_ID (for drill down on particular field, i.e. open the URL with this field value entred from sender query's field shopping cart number)
    result is coming: http://(hostname):(SRM port)/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/bbp_mon_sc?sap-client=200&sap-language=EN&GS_HEADER-OBJECT_ID='selected number value'&GS_HEADER-OBJECT_ID=10000456
    and when try this:
    http://(hostname):(SRM port)/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/bbp_mon_sc?sap-client=200&sap-language=EN
    with field assignment: shopping cart number = GS_HEADER-OBJECT_ID
    result is coming: http://(hostname):(SRM port)/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/bbp_mon_sc?sap-client=200&sap-language=EN&GS_HEADER-OBJECT_ID=10000456
    but not skiping the initial screen.

  • Passing values to different thread

    how to pass value to diffent threads?
    this code dosen't work. the only path that was processed is the "sDirList[1]="//10.81.86.55/ANC_DATA$/";"
    public static void main(String[] args){
            sDirList[0]="//10.81.86.55/LOG_FIT$/";
            sDirList[1]="//10.81.86.55/ANC_DATA$/";
             setIndex(0);
             (new Thread(new ListFile())).start();
             setIndex(1);
             (new Thread(new ListFile())).start();
    class ListFile() extends thread{
    private int ndx=0;
    public setIndex(int i){
      ndx=1
    //open path with the current index
    }

    If you two threads are sharing variables, then they must be declared as 'volatile'. If you use volatile, then the variables will be stored in main memory, rather in thread specific memory. That means adding volatile keyword should solve the issue.

  • Pass values between ssrs 2008 r2 reports

    In a  ssrs 2008 R2 report, I need to pass parameters to existing subreports that are currently called.  Basically there is a main sssrs 2008 r2 report and there are 3 subreports. I would like subreports #1, subreport #2, and subreport #3 to receive
    the value values of customer number and customer name. I am hoping you can tell me and/or show me code that would tell me how to add parameters parameter values that are used to call these subreports.

    Hi wendy,
    According to your description, it seems that you want to pass parameter values from main report to subreport1, from subreport1 to subreport2, and from subreport2 to subreport3. If in this scenario, you can refer to the following steps about the sample test
    (from main report to subreport1) in my environment:
    Create a parameter named ID in the main report, adjust the report body and tablix with the same size.
    In the subreport1 report, right-click one cell to insert a subreport.
    Right-click the subpeort to open the Subreport Properties, and select the main report name in the drop-down list.
    In the left panel of the Subreport Properties dialog box, click Parameters.
    Select ID in the drop-down list of Name, and select [ID] in the drop-down list of Value.
    Considering your question, because I have create a parameter in the main report and specify the parameter in the subreport1, the main report will be passed by the parameter to subreport1.
    If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

    I had program runnning fine in labview version 5.0, Recently i updated to labview version 6.0, but when i opened file i will see many warnings like above.
    I saved the file as 6.0, all the warnings are gone and program compiles as well but i am not sure saving as 6.0 eliminate those problems like..."value will not be coereced when passed to subvis"

    It means that some of your controls use coercion to alter data if it is not within a range. In LV 5.0 this worked for either typing the data into the control or passing it through the connector as a sub-vi. In 6.0 the data won't be coerced if it has been passed through the connector as a sub-vi, only if it is entered on the front panel. If your sub-vis relied on this coercion to operate properly then you will need to add the "In Range and Coerce" function to your block diagram to manipulate these values. If the coercion wasn't important then disregard the warning.
    Hope this helps
    Brian
