Patch 5391326 using opatch
Hi,
I'm applying patch 5391326 using opatch utility. I receive this error message :
OPatch detected non-cluster Oracle Home from the inventory and will patch the local system only.
Please shut down Oracle instances running out of this ORACLE_HOME
(Oracle Home = /sandbox/migration/oracle3/product/FMIS/9.2.0)
Is this system ready for updating?
Please respond Y|N >
Should I realy stop the other instances runing ? It is difficult since they are productions ?
Any solution ?
Many thanks before.
Just a side note, you should thoroughly read and follow the patch note while you do patching. Especially if there's production DB involved.
The README file come with the patch mentioned.
You should not only shutdown the instance but also other processes like listener and enterprise manager etc.
-- Before patching, completely shutdown all processes within the Oracle home. It is not recommended to restart the Oracle HTTP Server or the middle tier home until all associated database and Metadata Repository homes have been successfully patched and restarted. This is to accommodate any dependency requirements with any database objects in use.

Thanks.

How to apply AIA Patch using Opatch
i have an oracle aia update patch...how can i apply this patch using Opatch.......cann any one say me the procedure of doing so....
Quick reply is appreciated....
Regards
GSKTo apply patches on top of AIA 10g you need a Standalone patch.
In my case, i had to apply a patch on top of AIA 2.5 version.
-I had to apply a Stand alone patch. The version used is stand alone opatch 11.1.0.0.0 . this can be downloaded from the oracle support site.
-After applying the stand alone patch, you can apply the aia update patch. .
- opatch apply -oh <AIA_HOME> -jre <SOA_HOME>/jre/1.4.2
AIA_HOME - Complete directory path where AIA_HOME is installed
SOA_HOME - Complete directory path where SOA is installed
Follow the instructions given in the readme and should be able to do it.
Hope this helps -
Error when try to install CPU - Critical Patch Update with OPatch
Hello gurus,
I´m faccing with a problem... After I update the patch set to 10.2.0.4 and install the interim patches for Linux X86_64 now I´m trying to import/install the Oracle Critical Patch Update - Oracle CPU patch!!
I´m trying to import it with OPatch, and I already update this OPatch tool for the last version even before proceeding with installation of Oracle CPU!
I've tried to import it by two methods. The first I tried to apply as described in the relevant README file inside of CPU patch directory, and I used in this case the following command:
redhatsap:orajmd> unzip p9119226_10204_<platform>.zip
redhatsap:orajmd> cd 9119226
redhatsap:orajmd> opatch napply -skip_subset -skip_duplicate
opatch: Command not found
After that previous error, I tried again but now with other method that is described in note 839182 (Installing patches using OPatch) with the following command:
redhatsap:orajmd> cd 9119226
redhatsap:orajmd> $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/opatch apply

João Dimas - PortugalHello again Joe Bo... and all of others,
I´m with a doubt after installing the CPU patch, which is related to post-installation tasks. I´m in this momment install the SAP System and it was during this installation that sapinst asked me to install the database and all other activities after this installation that are related to the database, for example, the updating of database patches.
At README file in chapter 3.3.2 Post Installation Instructions is described the following:
After installing the patch, perform the following actions:
1.Load modified .sql files into the database, as explained in Section 3.3.2.1.
2.Recompile views in the database, if necessary, as explained in Section 3.3.2.2.
In this momment, as you certainly know, I still don´t have a database because the sap system isn´t yet totally installed (I´m in phase 8 of sapinst wizard).
I only have to do this "Post Installation Tasks" when I have a database, this database will be created after that phase 8 - so now I don´t need to perform the post steps... am I right?
Thanks in advance,
João Dimas - Portugal -
How to determine the patch number used (installed using runInstaller)
Whilst it easy to find the patch number installed using opatch by using the lsinventory argument.
Is there a way to find patch number for a patch applied via runInstalled?
META-INF/MANIFEST.MF from platform/iam-platform-kernel.jar,gives the following:
Manifest-Version: 1.0

But I need the exact patch number, eg, p1234567.
Anyone know where to find this information?
The system has been patched from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.1.5
I am looking for the patches used for WLS, SOA and OIM.

Check Note: 1247564.1 for 11.1.1.3 and 1360009.1 for 11.1.1.5 for builds to patch mapping. Check Note:1299977.1 for how to determine build numbers.
For WLS you can use: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs81/admin_ref/clic.html
For OIM as mentioned above
For SOA: $mw_home\Oracle_SOA\bin\soaversion.cmd (or soaversion.sh) to know the SOA version or

11.2.0.3 Patch Bundle and opatch installation approach
Hi,
I have installed the below 11.2.0.3 (64 bit) products in my windows 2008 server
1. Oracle Grid Infrastructure for standalone server
2. Oracle database server software and created a standalone database with ASM in this home.
Now i need to apply Update 5 patch bundle and some bug fix patches.
Since there are 2 home in my server what is the right approach for applying the patch bundle and opatch ?
When i went through the patch bundle installation document i could see these 2 options
1. Patch Installation Instructions for Single Instance
2. Patch Installation Instructions for RAC
Since i have 2 homes (OraCrs11g_home1 & OracDb11g_home1 ) in my server i am not sure which patch installation option i should choose and proceed.
Can someone assist me ?
Thanks,
Ashok Kumar.Gno we have to prepare a test POC but we don't have Xterm so had to use silent mode.using VNC server is best option to install or upgrade databases/grid Infrastructure.
VNC server runs on the server and no fear of loosing network connection as in case of connecting thorugh putty.
also you can open GUI in VNC server without need of any xterm or xwindows .
So ask your SA to install VNC on your server and use it. -

Determine Patch Level without opatch
Does anyone know of a way to query the oracle inventory xml file to determine the oracle patch level without using opatch?
I have a number of servers to check and not all of them have perl installed.
Also which xml file does opatch use?
the command 'opatch lsinventory -detail' gives one entry for the installed patches whereas 'opatch lsinventory' lists all the inventory.
There must be someway to grep one of the xml files to obtain the installed patches?
Which file and where in the xml file is it?
Cheers,
JasIn $ORACLE_HOME/inventory/ContentsXML/comps.xml, all the information related to oneoffs installed is kept. Infact OPatch reads this infor and reports during lsinventory.
But it is recommended to handle this file very carefully, if this file is damaged, then its almost that your home is gone, coz....no update can be done without proper inventory. -

regards,
RakeshI want to know whether we can apply the patch using c/d/g driver without using adpatch. The c/d/g drivers are just like the u driver and should be applied using adpatch only (cannot be applied manually or from the command prompt!).
If there are any additional manual steps mentioned in the patch README file, then you have to implement it too.
Thanks,

Using OPatch for OIM patches - do you need write privs to ORACLE_HOME
We are in the process of installing OIM and have reached the post configuration step, which requires us to install a patch.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/install.1111/e12002/oidonly009.htm#CDDGCDBB
We are in a separate group that the DBA team and we dont have write privs to ORACLE_HOME. Can you run opatch as user id X when ORACLE_HOME is owned by user id Y.
Also, when we installed WL + SOA + OIM, we were prompted for a oracle inventory location and opted to use the local inventory. I tried: "opatch lsinventory -invPtrLoc /<local-inventory-loc>" but that too failed.
Any ideas?
Thanks

OPatch failed with error code 104I could upgrade to OIM 11.1.1.5 but that is only pushing out the problem. The real question is how does one patch Oracle Fusion middleware products?
Since I was able to install WL+SOA+OIM using an id X, I should be able to patch the same software using the same unix id X. But it fails. opatch obviously is a tool that was designed to patch Oracle database software and it almost seems like it is assumed that whoever is running it has read/write access to $ORACLE_HOME. These are not valid requirements for a server that only hosts fusion middleware. Infact, we dont even need the Oracle client to install fusion middleware.
Has anyone been able to run opatch on a server that either does not have a ORACLE_HOME, or the Oracle client is installed but the user executing opatch does not have write access to $ORACLE_HOME.

OutOfMemory while applying patch using OPatch
I`m apply patches...
About 10 of patches was successfully applyed...
But when I apply one patch I have an exception java.lang.OutOfMemory
does any have this trouble?
i have installed Oracle 9i Rel 2 on LinuxHi Muba,
While applying this patch 16784403 & follow the post install task Step 4.1: Redeploy the new Forms EAR file (Conditional) of note 437878.1 after application of this MLR patch,4.2 Regenerate JAr files
do i need to stop all application services? as of this is OPatch, dont need to stop the application while applying this patch & post install step.
Please stop all application services and apply the patch. It is not mandatory you shutdown the DB, but if possible recommend to shutdown DB as well, and apply patch.
Then as post installation, regenerate JAR files using adadmin.
Thanks &

Installing patches using OPatch
Hi All,
We are planning to upgrade oracle version 10.2.0.2.0 to Oracle patch set 10.2.0.5
Current opatch version is :
bhluksmp:orasmp 68> opatch version
Invoking OPatch 10.2.0.2.5
OPatch Version: 10.2.0.2.5
since i m upgrading oracle from 10.2.0.2.0 to Oracle patch set 10.2.0.5.
1.so do i need to apply the opatch10.2.0.5 or just use the existing version of opatch.
2.Upgrade opatch after i have upgraded to 10.2.0.5.
ThanksHi,
Before you do anything I'd advise you to read ALL related notes.
You have downloaded 2 SBP, they are cumulative, therefore you do not need them.
The note about MOPatch indicates you how to install the patches
I already mentioned you that the SBP is installed with the Mopatch tool and note 1431752 gives you an explanation on how to do it.
You do NOT unzip the files that you download, MOPatch works with the zipped file:
1. Call the following path of the SAP Software Distribution Center:
http://service.sap.com/oracle-download
-> Database Patches -> Oracle -> Oracle 10.2.0.5
2. Open the platform directory and download the SAP Bundle Patch file
SAP_<Release>_<Date>_<Platform>.zip, the SBP README
README_<Date>_<Platform>.htm, and the SBP patch history
BUGSFIXED_<Date>_<Platform>.htm to your database server.
3. Use MOPatch (SAP note 1027012) to install the SAP bundle patch in
accordance with the instructions in the SBP README. When you do
this, pay particular attention to the patch-specific installation
instructions.
You download the latest OPatch and MOPatch from
http://service.sap.com/oracle-download
-> Database Patches -> Oracle -> Oracle 10.2.0.5 -> Opatch
Please, READ and think before you do anything.
SAP Notes and documentation are there for something.
