Path to fonts embedded w/ DPS Viewer?

I want to standardize on a specific font for HTML content.
Its straightforward to reference an HTMLResources folder for assets (and fonts).
But what if I want to save download effort and embed the font within the app itself via DPS App Builder?
What path do I use to reference the font?
Thoughts?

So I don't need a path?
Since it's local i can just do something like..
@font-face
font-family: myFont;
src: url('ovo.ttf')
sorry Bob - i should have just tested this out myself beforehand

    Kindly advise how could I solve this problem.
    Thanks in advance for your better solution.

    As I was unable to upload the sample page PDF in my original thread, I have shared now in the following path. Kindly look into this and guide me how to extract the chinese text as UNICODE text.

  • CSS & AS3 Font Embedding

    We have an application which is built like so:
    Framework SWC
    Application SWC
    - Sub-application for web
    - Sub-application for desktop
    - Unit test runner
    - etc.
    The applications all share a look and feel including fonts. This was easy to achieve with Flex 3 using the trick with placing a defaults.css file at the root of the Flex Library Project. This would apply the CSS in the defaults.css file as the default theme, and font embedding calls in the CSS could refer to font files in the Flex Library Project. It worked great because we are also using a Sprite-based custom label class which embeds its font using AS3.
    Now, the CSS font embed lines only work if we also place the fonts in the Sub-application. This means we have to have the fonts copied in every sub-application for the CSS as well as in the SWC for the AS3 embedded label class.
    Is there a better way to achieve this in Flex 4, if we want embedded fonts in AS3 as well as Spark components?
    Thanks!

    I'm not sure exactly why you can't use Label and RichEditableText.  You
    might want to revisit that decision.
    If the font is embedded in the main app SWF and is picked up by TextFormat,
    then the most common possibility is that somehow other SWFs are being used
    to factory the FTETextField.  Maybe since styles are now per-SWF that's what
    is going on.
    I cannot use Label or RichEditableText because that particular text is being displayed in a completely Sprite-based view. We feel for that portion of the view that it is worth giving up the advantages of UIComponent to get something lighter weight.
    The font for the Sprite-based text is embedded in the class for that text field. The font for the UIComponent-based text is embedded using CSS. Is there a way to use a single compiled SWF for both? Would the SWF just be a single class embedding the fonts? That way we could pull it in at runtime. Would that work for the TextFormat as well?

  • Getting small fonts embedded in Pages PDFs... how?

    I have a Pages document that has a block of small (6pt and 7pt) type.  When I create a PDF of the document, the OS X PDF creation system substitutes bit-maps for the characters, and there is a significant loss in legibility.  If I create a similar PDF using Adobe Acrobat X (via the Print / PDF / Save as Adobe PDF method) these characters are represented correctly.  Here is a illustration of the problem: first image via Adobe Acrobat, second image via OS X.
    The document is intended to become a Template for use on our company's Mac computers (running iWork 09 / Mountain Lion currently), and these computers will need to be able to generate PDFs from the template.  It is not helpful for us to have to install Acrobat X on every machine simply to allow this to happen.
    Is there a way to adjust the settings for PDF creation within OSX to correct for this problem?
    Any suggestions would be most gratefully received.

    Hi Tom,
    Really helpful suggestions.  Don't solve problem, but do get me much closer.  I checked the embedding information as you suggested, and the Font is being embedded in both the OS X document and the Acrobat document, but the way in which the font is embedded is different between the two documents.
    Separately, I checked what the document looks like in Acrobat (not tried this previously, as most of our machines don't have it), and the two documents look the same.  Also, Preview prints both documents to look the same.
    So in a way I suppose I don't need to worry about it - it looks ugly, but is not affecting the function of the document generated.  But would be better if I could get Preview to not produce jaggy text if I could (as we can't afford to install Acrobat on machines just to eliminate this problem).  Any ideas?
    Background information...
    Here is the information reported by Acrobat about font embedding for the Frutiger Light font - first image for the OS X generated document, second for the Acrobat generated document:
    The report on embedding is quite different.
    The OS X generated file has embedded a "Type 1" subset of Frutiger Light five times, using Custom and or Roman encoding.
    The Acrobat generated file has embedded a "Type 1" subset of Frutiger Light twice using ANSI and Custom encoding and has also embedded a third subset of type "Type 1 (CID)" with encoding "Identity-H".
    Second, another view of the file when viewed in Preview, even more zoomed in that previous one - the first two images from left are OS X generated (export / best, print / save as PDF), the third is Acrobat generated, and has much less jagged edges on d or W for example:
    Here are same documents (in same order) viewed in Acrobat - text renders the same in each case.

  • Duplicated/blurred/overlapping fonted text in web view

    We are experiencing an annoying issue with fonted text in web view frames. See the screenshot below:
    Look closely at the headline and you'll notice that it seems to be duplicated on top of itself, as if there are two identical headlines on top of each other, a couple of pixels apart. This happening on ALL our HTML text story pages based on this template.
    The page is HTML supported by local web fonts, an extremely basic CSS and a jQuery to handle the zoom function (the blue buttons at the top). The idea is that readers of our DPS folio tap on a button on a page to reveal a state in an MSO that contains a web view frame showing the full text version of a story.
    The annoying thing is that the HTML looks absolutely fine in Safari and Chrome on my computer, nor in the desktop Content Viewer: the problem only arises in Safari and Chrome (and therefore DPS too) on the iPad 2 and 3.
    Has anyone here experienced the same issue? Did you manage to solve it?
    Ali

    Yes, I'm previewing as a raster folio - no zooming allowed. What made it curious is that when I put the same web files online and viewed them using the standard Safari browser and the Chrome browser on my iPad, I was seeing the same problem. So it seems to be an issue not directly related to DPS.
    However, I think I've solved it, thanks to your prompting to keep returning to how the fonts are being addressed. I added the following lines to the <style type="text/css"> section of my HTML header:
    h1
              font-family: Headline;
              font-weight: normal;
    I'm not sure why this did the trick: the 'Headline' style for the <h1> tag is already described and associated in the CSS and (I thought) referred to appropriately higher up in the HTML header, but there you go. Perhaps it needed a reminder, I dunno. The other styles didn't need this. I'm such a coding dimbo I haven't the faintest idea what's going on.
    Thanks for directing me to the right places!

  • Font Licenses for DPS App folios

    I'm trying to get my head around font licenses for DPS apps. When publishing folios in PDF format isn't everything converted to images on export? I've found font licenses that have an app embed option but say that anything part of an "image" does not require an app embed license but rather just the regular user license. I understand that different foundries will have different licenses and agreements but any insight into general font use with DPS would be much appreciated. Currently my apps are iOS only but we may explore Android in the future.

    Bob, I appreciate your quick reply and expanding on the Typekit licensing, which very clearly specifies where DPS is covered. Though, I was hoping for a little more effort in response, or inquiry as to how you can better address the question. I tried calling Adobe to see if I could get some quick answers, but I did not receive support and was redirected to use the forum.
    I want to better understand the technical aspects of the DPS product so I can lean it against each foundries terms. Because the additional licenses are very expensive, literally thousands of dollars for myself and colleagues in some cases if we need something more than a desktop license. Neil answered it some above, but I need a little more clarity...
    I have researched and contacted a few different foundries and none of them have been able to give me a sense of confidence that they really understand what is being done with DPS and I could only articulate it in part. One foundry said I need an unlimited ebook license. Another said I need to buy a new ebook license for each digital magazine issue and also possibly an app license as well.
    A specific case is with FontSpring.com. They said I need an unlimited ebook license, but their terms say a desktop license includes embedding the font in a PDF and then selling that PDF. But when I asked about it a little further, they interpreted DPS published magazines in PDF format as needing an ebook license as well because of how it is produced and delivered to mobile devices, with the addition of slideshows, etc..
    Please help me understand and I'd like your opinion: When I create digital folios with DPS and the article format is PDF, should the product just be considered another method of delivering PDF content (even though it's going through an app and delivered to mobile devices)? Or is it something more? As Neil said, the fonts aren't evenly fully embedded, but rather a subset. Most places are trying to tie it into ebook licensing because it seems like more than a PDF that is sold, and it jumps pricing way up. Is it really more than a PDF and more like an ebook?
    Thank you.

  • Problem with embeding the same view in dynamically created view container

    Hello Experts,
                  I am getiing a dump when i try to embed the same view inside the dynamically created view container of
    dynamically created tabs of a tabstrip
    The requirement go like this, i have 2 views in which i have have to embed the 2nd view to view1 where i have an empty
    tabstrip without tabs. During runtime i create tabs as well as view containers accordingly and then try to embed view2 in tabs.
    I have put the below mentioned code in HANDLEIN,
      DATA: lref_vcntlr  TYPE REF TO if_wd_view_controller,
            lref_comp    TYPE REF TO if_wd_component_usage,
            lv_embed_pos TYPE string.
      lref_vcntlr = wd_this->wd_get_api( ).
      lv_embed_pos = 'FILE_PERS_EDIT/VC_GENERAL'.
      TRY.
          CALL METHOD lref_vcntlr->do_dynamic_navigation
            EXPORTING
              source_window_name        = 'FILE_PERSISTENCE_WND'          " Window
              source_vusage_name        = 'FILE_PERS_EDIT_USAGE_1'       " Source View usage
              source_plug_name          = 'TO_EDIT_LAYOUT'                       " Outbound plug
              target_view_name          = 'PERS_EDIT_LAYOUT'                  " Second view to be embedded
              target_plug_name          = 'IN'                                                  " Second view inboun plug
              target_embedding_position = lv_embed_pos
            RECEIVING
              component_usage           = lref_comp.
        CATCH cx_wd_runtime_repository .
      ENDTRY.
      wd_this->fire_to_edit_layout_plg( ).
    This works fine for the first time.
    However onaction tab select i change the embeding position( 'FILE_PERS_EDIT/view container name of different tab') of the view2 an try to embed view2 in a different tab.
    At this point i get a dump stating View2 already present in the window 'FILE_PERSISTENCE_WND' of component.
    I think, the view2 embediing has to be removed before i add the view2 in a different tab
    Kindly let me know how to remove view2 embedding from tab1 before i add a view2 to a different tab or is there any other
    means to handle this problem?
    Thanks & Best Regards,
    Srini.

    Hello Srini,
    I found a solution to your problem, because I had a similar task.
    In WDDOINIT I changed the method do_dynamic_navigation to if_wd_navigation_services_new~prepare_dynamic_navigation:
    DATA:
        l_view_controller_api TYPE REF TO if_wd_view_controller.
      l_view_controller_api = wd_this->wd_get_api( ).
      TRY.
          CALL METHOD l_view_controller_api->if_wd_navigation_services_new~prepare_dynamic_navigation
            EXPORTING
              source_window_name        = 'WDW_MAIN'
              source_vusage_name        = 'VW_SUB_USAGE_1'
              source_plug_name          = 'TO_VW_CONTENT'
              target_component_name     = 'ZTEST_DYNAMIC'
              target_view_name          = 'VW_CONTENT'
              target_plug_name          = 'DEFAULT'
              target_embedding_position = 'VW_MAIN/VC_TAB.VW_SUB/TAB1_VC'
            RECEIVING
              repository_handle         = wd_this->g_rep_handle.
        CATCH cx_wd_runtime_repository .
      ENDTRY.
      wd_this->fire_to_vw_content_plg( param1 = 'TAB1' ).
    In the action I first deleted the navigation targets, then navigated to the empty-view and last I called my target view:
      DATA:
        lv_position           TYPE string,
        l_view_controller_api TYPE REF TO if_wd_view_controller,
        lr_view_usage         TYPE REF TO if_wd_rr_view_usage,
        lr_view_***_t         TYPE wdrr_vca_objects,
        lr_view_***           LIKE LINE OF lr_view_***_t.
      l_view_controller_api = wd_this->wd_get_api( ).
      lr_view_usage = wd_this->g_view->get_view_usage( ).
      lr_view_usage->delete_all_navigation_targets( plug_name = 'TO_VW_CONTENT' ).
      CLEAR lv_position.
      CONCATENATE 'VW_MAIN/VC_TAB.VW_SUB/' old_tab '_VC' INTO lv_position.
      TRY.
          l_view_controller_api->if_wd_navigation_services_new~do_dynamic_navigation(
          source_window_name = 'WDW_MAIN'
          source_vusage_name = 'VW_SUB_USAGE_1'
          source_plug_name   = 'TO_EMPTYVIEW'
          target_component_name = 'ZTEST_DYNAMIC'
          target_view_name   = 'EMPTYVIEW'
          target_plug_name   = 'DEFAULT'
          target_embedding_position = lv_position ).
        CATCH cx_wd_runtime_repository.
      ENDTRY.
      CLEAR lv_position.
      CONCATENATE 'VW_MAIN/VC_TAB.VW_SUB/' tab '_VC' INTO lv_position.
      TRY.
          wd_this->g_rep_handle = l_view_controller_api->if_wd_navigation_services_new~prepare_dynamic_navigation(
            source_window_name = 'WDW_MAIN'
            source_vusage_name = 'VW_SUB_USAGE_1'
            source_plug_name   = 'TO_VW_CONTENT'
            target_component_name = 'ZTEST_DYNAMIC'
            target_view_name   = 'VW_CONTENT'
            target_plug_name   = 'DEFAULT'
            target_embedding_position = lv_position ).
        CATCH cx_wd_runtime_repository.
      ENDTRY.
      wd_this->fire_to_vw_content_plg( param1 = tab ).
    Ann.: I my example, I had 3 views: VW_MAIN which embedds VW_SUB. VW_SUB has the tabs in it and VW_SUB embedds VW_CONTENT.

  • How do you define which character set gets embedded with a font embedded in the library (i.e. Korean)?

    I have project that uses a shared fonts. The fonts are all
    contained in a single swf ("fonts.swf"), are embedded in that swf's
    library and are set to export for actionscript and runtime sharing.
    The text in the project is dynamic and is loaded in from
    external XML files. The text is formatted via styles contained in a
    CSS object.
    This project needs to be localized into 20 or so different
    languages.
    Everything works great with one exception: I can’t
    figure out how to set which character set gets exported for runtime
    sharing. i.e. I want to create a fonts.swf that contains Korean
    characters, change the XML based text to Korean and have the text
    display correctly.
    I’ve tried changing the language of my OS (WinXP) and
    re-exporting but that doesn’t work correctly. I’ve also
    tried adding substitute font keys to the registry (at:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
    NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes) as outlined here:
    http://www.quasimondo.com/archives/000211.php
    but the fonts I added did not show up in Flash's font menue.
    I’ve also tried the method outlined here:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_16275
    to no avail.
    I know there must be a simple solution that will allow me to
    embed language specific character sets for the fonts embedded in
    the library but I have yet to discover what it is.
    Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Jim,
    I know that it is easy to specify the language you want to
    use when setting the embed font properties for a specific text
    field but my project has hundreds of text fields and I'm setting
    the font globally by referencing the font symbols in a single swf.
    I have looked at the info you've pointed out but wasn't
    helped by it. What I'd like to be able to do is to tell Flash to
    embed a language specific character-set for the font symbols in the
    library. It currently is only embedding Latin characters even
    though I know the fonts specified contains characters for other
    languages.
    For example. I have a font symbol in the libary named
    "Font1". When I look at its properties I can see it is spcified as
    Tahoma. I know the Tahoma font on my system contains the characters
    for Korean but when I compile the swf it only contains Latin
    characters (gylphs) - this corresponds to the language of my OS (US
    English). I want to know how to tell Flash to embedd the Korean
    language charaters rather than or as well as the Latin characters
    for any given FONT SYMBOL. If I could do that, then, when I enter
    Korean text into my XML files the correct characters will be
    available to Flash. As it is now, the characters are not available
    and thus the text doesn' t display.
    Make sense?
    Many thanks,
    Mike

  • Font embedding problem PPT plugin Acrobat 9 Pro

    Hi,
    having just updated to Acrobat 9 Pro I encounter a font embedding problem when using the PowerPoint plugin (PPT2007) to create a PDF of my presentation. I am working under Windows 7 (64Bit) and use fonts from Mathematica (Wolfram). The generated PDF shows problems displaying the fonts, indicating that they have not been embedded (although font embedding of these fonts is set in the options). The problem does not occur if I directly print to the PDF printer - here all Mathematica fonts are correctly embedded (but this has other disadvantages since videos/animations are not integrated). The problem seems to be specific to Acrobat 9 since under Acrobat 8 everything worked correctly as well.
    Any ideas/solutions for that issue?
    Thanks & best regards
    Ralf

    Perhaps you may need to upgrade to version 9.2 (Acrobat support of Windows 7 begins at this dot release)?
    Be well...

  • Embedding fonts in an existing pdf that does not have the fonts embedded

    Hi,
    I have an existing pdf that fails to open on my ereader.
    So I opened in acrobat x pro to see what might be the cause.
    Selecting "file"--> "properties" -->"font" ( fonts used in this document) I can see that this pdf uses multiple windows trueType fonts and that none of them are embedded in the pdf document.
    Now my ereader is linux bases, so I am guessing this might be a problem.
    Being an ereader I didn' give me much to go on.
    So i would like to embed all the fonts listed in this list into the pdf file and save it again with the fonts embedded.
    I went to "file"-->"save as optimized pdf" -->"font"
    But there both lists embedded and unembedded fonts are empty.
    Why is this and how can I embed the fonts shown in the document properties into the pdf?
    They seem standard windows fonts like e.g.  ArialNarrow

    I just looked a bit furder and actually checked wether the fonts existed and found the following:
    I am using windows vista.
    The fonts mentioned in the properties of the pdf actually exist in the windows installed fonts but
    in windows they are no longer TrueType but OpenType.
    So I am guessing this might be the reason they are not in the list of unembedded fonts in the optimizer window.
    Is there an easy way to say to acrobat to replace one font ( not found on this computer) with another font that does exist and also to embed that font in the pdf document?

  • Font embedding works in 1.8 preview, not in 1.7.2

    Hello,
    I'm currently creating epubs and testing them in ADE. I am embedding Google Webfonts.
    I'm finding that many fonts embedding using @font-face are ignored by ADE 1.7.2. However, ADE 1.8 preview appears to show them as intended. Incidentally, the fonts are always shown correctly on ibooks.
    Could you please let me know what is wrong - is it a bug with ADE 1.7.2, or would there be a reason why it would not 'like' my Webfont TTFs? I've found at least one other user having a similar problem, apparently: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1725479&postcount=7
      @font-face {
      font-family : 'FanwoodItalic';
                                            src: url(fonts/Fanwood/Fanwood-Italic-webfont.ttf);
      font-style: normal;
                        h2 {
      font-family: 'FanwoodItalic';
    Thanks for your help.

    Are the fonts obfuscated? If so, using what method?

  • Font embedding problem in PDFs

    Since upgrading to Leopard from Tiger-
    We are losing fonts embedded into pdfs, either saved through Preview or Adobe Indesign CS3.
    The preview of pdfs, both in the finder windows and in Entourage email attachments are missing fonts too. Sometimes opening them resolves the issue, but not usually.
    This has occured to both User and System level fonts.
    We have cleaned the font caches, but this only provides a temporary fix.
    We have tried not using our Suitcase Fusion and just letting FontBook manage the fonts on this machine, the problem still manifests itself.
    The only change in the equation from a perfectly operational machine was the change from Tiger to leopard.
    Any thoughts/help = greatly appreciated.

    Update: Reader 8 on a PC displays everything fine, so it's a matter of updating

  • Need all fonts embedded in my PDF.

    I converted a word document to pdf through pdf pack. How can I get the following fonts embedded in my pdf: arial MT, arial MT bold, and arial MT italic? Thanks.

    Hi Cyn Tarr,
    You can embed fonts using Adobe Acrobat.
    PDF Pack cannot accomplish this.

  • Font Selection in Keyboard Viewer

    In previous versions of the OS the Keyboard Viewer let me choose what font I wanted to view. Now all I see are "Standard" and a few odd fonts. Am I missing some preference setting that will allow me to view ANY font? I have, for instance, Koch Signs which I can't view at all any more.

    Tom Gewecke wrote:
    for most special characters you must use the Character Palette and not the keyboard for input. The Favorites section of that is designed to provide easier access to special characters that are frequently used. Or a custom keyboard layout can sometimes easily be created to include characters you need all the time.
    If you tell us exactly which ones you need, we can probably tell you whether and how a keyboard combo can be used.
    In my workflow, the special characters I need to use generally do have a keyboard combination to activate them -- my frustration is over the seemingly increasing hassle it requires to see what that key combination is. And the difficulty with setting "Favorites" is that there aren't really any specific ones I frequently need on a regular basis.
    Here's a typical example: I was recently using the Hoefler Text font to generate captions and special titles for some montages I was creating in Photoshop. Hoefler has an "Ornaments" style, which had some decorative glyphs I wanted to use to bookend some of the text entries. Using Font Book (with Preview set to Repertoire) I could easily see all the available glyphs in that Ornaments style, at whatever size I wanted to view them.
    So far so good. And each of these characters had its own keyboard combination. The trouble is, Font Book (unless I'm missing something) won't tell me what that keyboard combination is for any given character. And Keyboard Viewer now won't let me select the font and at least see to which keys (and with which modifiers) all of the characters for that font have been mapped. (In fact, Keyboard Viewer should automatically open with whatever font you're currently using already selected.)
    So I end up having to run my finger along every key in every row, and then do the same with Shift, Option, and Shift-Option held down, just to figure out which key combo generates the little left-facing squiggly thing in this particular font.
    With Character Palette (which I've re-discovered thanks to this and other threads), I can at least use the Insert option to pop a selected character into whatever file I was working on -- but how do I first try out a special "string" of these characters to see how they'll look together? I seem to recall the old Key Caps utility would let you do that.
    I guess my main point is that all of these kinds of functions and options need to be integrated into Font Book in an easy-to-use way.
    PS The best place to tell Apple how you feel about this issue is here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
    Believe me, I have. For many, many apps. Many, many times.
    I sometimes wonder how seriously the Feedback is actually monitored, however, since very often the options offered in the questions you need to fill out (what version of the app are you currently using; which version of the OS; etc.) are several months out of date. One can only hope that even though the pages themselves are not being actively maintained, at least some of the user input sent via those pages does get looked at.
    (And while Apple would never say this publicly, IMHO if they're smart they've also got a staff of people whose only job is to monitor the Apple Discussions Forums, and track what's working and what's causing frustrations in the OS, its hardware, and all of the apps.)
