Paying for 20mb broadband only getting 6mb

Hi, this is my first post on this forum although i have had bt broadband for 5 years now.
I'd just like to know if i am getting the most out of what i am paying for. having done a speed test i am currently getting 6.08mb/s download and 0.34 mb/s upload according to speedtest web site with a ping of 41ms. My exchange is only 0.4 of a mile from my house and according to kitz.co.uk using there maximum adsl speed calculator with my downstream attenuation of 20db stats that i should get dslmax of 8128 kbps, adsl2+ 20256kbps and states my line length to be approx 1.4km. What i do not understand is BE broadband say that i could get approx 16mb from my line. So is BT throttling my connection ? Over subscribed ?
I have done a check based on post code for my exchange and it states that it can support adsl2+
Can someone explain or check to see this is the maximum i can expect.

Are you seriously? Only 20 mb?? And you are getting 6 mb from them??? In my country there is no such thing as 20 mb broadband... Minimum 100 mb! And it is very cheap! In UK you must pay about 30 pounds/month for 18 months and you will get this **bleep** and in my country you would pay only about 10 pound/month with no contracts and you will get from 100 mb download speed!
No, really... It is UK! It is very developed country, but broadband... Even Africa has that kind of broadband... I really dissapointed about that I will never understand why it is so hard to you to make better broadband. Offer to some companies in my country to do that job! They will do that with pleasure! And after a half an year you will see a huge changes.

  • Paying For 30Mbs, But Only Getting 2Mbs

    Hi Apple Discussions
I Have A Problem (I Think) With My Airport Extreme 802.11n, Right Now I Have Optimum Online Running At 30Mbs Download & 5Mbs Upload. But The Settings On The Airport Router Is Only Let Me Push Out 2Mbs, Then I Tried To Set It On 802.11n Only(2.4GHz) To See If I Could Get At Least 15-25Mbs. And The Router Doesn't Even Come Up???
So I Plugged Up My Mac Directly To The Cable Modem And Try To See What Type Of Speed I Could Get, And I Got Around 25Mbs D/L And 5Mbs U/L What It Should Be. Then I Tried To Put It On The Other Option 802.11n(802.11a Comp.) Without Security And The Router Still Doesn't Show, And One Of The Setting I Had Shown The Router But I Couldn't Connect To The Interent.
I Just Wanna Get The Speed That I'm Playing For, Thanks In Advance For Any Help...

I think your problem, if you indeed are using the iBook G4 you have listed in your specs, is that you are trying to connect an "N" network to an airport card (in the iBook) that only supports B and G. So, that explains why you won't see the network when you set it to N-only. You have to set it on the B/G mode only. Unless you upgrade to a new snazzy MacBook, or you find some N network USB dongle, you won't be able to connect to any N network with your current iBook configuration. Hope this helps a bit.

  • HT3302 what if i pay for the iPod to get fixed, because it doesn't have warranty anymore?

my iPod touch 4 has accidently gotten wet, to where the screen is turning blank. The warranty has ran out, like about 2 years ago, and Apple won't fix it for free, i know that for a fact. What if I pay for the iPod to get it  fixed? Will Apple still fix it? If so, How much?

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5s. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

There are third-party firms that do repairs on iDevices, and there are places where you can order parts to DIY if you feel up to the task:

  • Paying For 20mb Getting 2mb

BT sold my son 20mb Unlimited Broadband about Nov 2010, he told me the other week that his BB was very poor as every test he did came back with 2mb d/ld speed. So I tried the BT location site and put in his phone number - and the fastest connection speed there equipment can deliver in his area is 8mb.
I told him he should call them and get it fixed out as they were charging for a service that BT's equipment could NOT provide.
Tonight he called me, he said he was in contact with BT but there line was that it didn't matter that he was only getting 2mb, the £29 odds they were charging was because he was getting Unlimited Download, surely that can't be right.
The service they sold him and he signed up for was 20mb Unlimited, now while there can be dips in d/ld speed and you can't always get 20mb, but that should not fall below 10mb. The thing is BT's EQUIPMENT CAN NOT EVEN DELIVER 20MB IN HIS AREA!
The fastest they CAN provide in his area is 8mb, I can see now why his speed is down at 2mb. BT would have to Upgrade there junction boxes to handle/put through 20mb.
Surely he has been paying to much and should be due a refund, as BTs equipment can not provide 20mb.
    BT Phone Number Checker ..........
     Your broadband checker results
Broadband option Estimated connection speed When you can get it Action
BT Total Broadband BT Total BroadbandYou can get fast and reliable broadband with speeds of up to 8Mb.

Distance from the nearest BT exchange, its in the village where he lives, I would say he's less than half a mile from it.
Tried another site and got this ..
Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.
Click here to compare packages available to you.
However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.
The following services are available in your location:
    BT Wholesale ADSL
    BT Wholesale ADSL Max
    Virgin Media (Cable)
And from another site what these can provide ..
BT Wholesale provides wholesale ADSL broadband products to most of the UK’s ISPs. ADSL MAX lines are enhanced versions of the standard IPStream / Datastream ADSL products and use Rate-Adaptive (RA) technology to dynamically find the best ‘stable’ speed for your line. It is capable of offering speeds up to 8Mbps download and 448Kbps (800Kbps business) upload, though most will receive far less.
I think that says, that BT can not deliver to his home (no matter if the exchange was in his hall cupboard) anything higher than 8mb d/ld speed.

  • MX890 Having to spend $130 for ink but only getting 11-12 actually VIABLE prints, HELP?!?!

As the title topic says, I am somehow having to buy 130 bucks worth of ink but I only get 11 or 12 actually viable print outs!!! Specifically, I am printing custom DVD case art/covers for my video game library. Yet the only way to actually get the print outs (DVD case art) to equal the visual quality and color depth of the images displayed on my PC monitor is for me to set it to Photo print settings/presets with the Vivid colors box ticked which burns through ink LIKE FRICKIN' CRAZY. Hence why I keep having to buy new ink at an absurd frequency. Also I am having to print them on Ultra-Glossy photo paper because any other type such as matte, semi-gloss, or brochure paper comes out looking like the image had the contrast set to max of which muddles all of the damned colors down. I have included an example of how drastically different the end print outs become when I print one on the Photo presets with Vivid checked onto ultra high gloss paper and the other on any other preset. I dont know if this matters or not, but I am having to print the images through IrfanView image viewer due to the fact that any and all other image viewing programs never print out the ACTUAL SIZE of the image on the PC monitor while instead resizing the printed image on its own. The printer I am using is a Canon MX890 by the way. ANY help would be IMMENSELY appreciated!!

  • Only need 3 months for school, have to pay for 12 and then get charged half for the other 9?

The way I understand, it's $20/month and you have to commit for 12 for a total of $240.
I only need it for 3 months for school. I would then have to pay 50% of the remaining 9 months ($90) to cancel.
Is that right? If so, it's a load of horseshit. Why doesn't Adobe have a decent plan for students that don't have money to throw around?

  • Paying for fast BB but getting the same rate as be...

Got a letter in the post wowing me with an offer of upgrading my pitiful 4Mb BB to over 13Mb. Upgraded 12th December. Ping went to about 30ms that day and the speed was 6Mb dl and about 1.2Mb upload. Decent start as I was told the speed would ramp up over the next week. Well...it didnt. In fact it went DOWN to 4-5Mb download and 0.9Mb upload with ping sitting at 45ms. I have called, was promised the line would be upgraded. First technician didnt bother turning up so 1/2 day off work wasted waiting for him. Next engineer who came turned our BB off for about 6 hrs and said he was upgrading the line. Speeds STILL did not improve. We are about 1mile away from the exchange but before any nay sayers start saying "Well you can't get good speeds that far away" my parents live on the SAME road at the SAME postcode and get 17-18Mb download and they were upgraded 2 days after us! I know this as I tested their BB obsessively and wondered why there is no problem with them but every problem with me. Getting incredibly sick of callingBT and getting the usual scripted response, only to hear NO word back. I have emailed twice to complain and I got a voicemail saying it would be sorted a few days ago and nothing since. Sky have also taken an interest and promise to get me the speeds I was told I could get as I am in their area. Tho I would rather stay and see if BT can sort this I must admit I am sorely tempted as I am getting about 1/3 of the speed I was promised, my parents who live a few doors down get the service I SHOULD be getting and noone seems to care...except about the monthly DD ofc.

  • Well its another 3rd gen. 8gb ipod touch problem. Apparently they don't exist and that really ticks me off because the apple packaging clearly stated it was an 8gb 3rd gen. and now i can't update it. Apple lied and now im paying for it.I better get a new1

A year or two back i dad just used up all of my money to buy a brand new ipod touch 3rd gen. 8gb. I bought it at a local sams club and i even still have the packaging that says it was an 8gb 3rd gen. But Apple lied to me because it is only an 2nd gen. I looked it up and they don't exist. Now i can't get any games or anything because of thier false advertisement and ripping us off (as you can't update from iOS 4.2.1). This also happened to many of my friends and other Apple customers throughout the U.S. It was an unopened product from Apple. Since they tricked us i hold Apple accountable. I demand a refund and anyone else in this delemma please share your story. APPLE OWES ME A REFUND.

I see that you have the same problem as guys in the sites I found.
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/54866
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/55334
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/55180
I think most of them manage to came out either with FULL REFUND, with 75-90% DISCOUNT for iPod 4G purchase, or FREE iPod touch 4G 8GB.
I'll tell you this, it's not Apple who lied to you, it's the misled DEALERS. I've been collecting evidences and it seems from the beginning (the time of press release) until the release of iPod 4G, Apple never stated that they intended to release iPod touch 3G in 8GB.
See this image of Apple online store back in early 2010 :
The 8GB model were only UPDATED with iOS 3 however the true NEW iPod touch at that time (Apple hadn't used the terms Generation yet) was available in larger capacity. The iPod touch 8GB wasn't RENEWED but rather RE-RELEASED with lower price as previous 8GB iPod touch were more expensive. If you still not convinced enough to believe it, well search the youtube and watch Phil Schiller's presentation in 09/2009. He shown 8GB model (he didn't say new) would only experience updated price of $199 but later on, he pushed the 8GB aside and explained the NEW larger capacity models would be granted double capacity and improved performance
Hence, I'm truthfully sorry to say that the one whom to be wronged isn't Apple but dealers themselves for false advertising. I suggest you to bring up your complain to the dealer with valid evidences because if you don't, I'm afradi you might lose your chance due to the time being.

  • Still paying for BT broadband

    Hello
This January I switched from BT broadband to another provider because we were getting charged for using more than 10GB. We were sure we were not using 10GB but BT insisted we were so we gave up and switched to eclipse.
However although I am now happily with my new provider I am still getting charged for my BT broadband, web protection and of course my additional usage charges for going over 10GB. BT know I have changed as they provided me a MAC.
I have e-mailed them and written a letter but I still get broadband charges.
I don't know what to do.  All along we knew the the 10GB charges were innacurate and this proves it - I have changed suppliers and don't use BT broadband at all but they still charge me for overusage!!
    What can i do?
    Thank you for reading

I'm surprised the moderators of the forum have not been in touch with you regading this after you contacted them. You could always try contacting them again
    https://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951
Have you tried phoning BT on 0800 800150 and ask for Customer services. You will need to have your account number to hand. Explain to them what has happend and ask to speak to somebody that can deal with it. Obtain names and keep a record of times and what has been said.
If you are having the bills still taken from your account I would stop and direct debit to prevent anymore money being taken. As you are no longer a customer the money should not have been taken and I would inform my bank of these and ask them to recover the money. I would inform whom ever you speak to at BT that you will be doing this.

Pull all the other hard drives?
Upgraded to Boot Camp 3.3 already?
Have an Apple software RAID on other drives - AppleHFS and AppleMNT to mount and read HFS volumes - is buggy
you didn't burn the DVD from ISO etc right?
Safe Boot and rename AppleHFS.sys and MNT to .sys.old
Install MacDrive instead to access HFS
Who what or how did you partition the drive? normally I would just use Windows 7 DVD and not use BCA or share the drive with OS X.
