PCI-6013 Labview SE software support?

I am a retired engineer trying to do some experiments measuring the motion of clock pendulums. Since I am operating on a limited budget, I chose to purchase a NI PCI-6013 DAQ card after consultation about its limitations with a NI support engineer. I had hoped to do my experiments using a copy of Labview student edition since the purchase of a full version of Labview is beyond my means. Unfortunately, Labview SE does not appear to support the 6013 DAQ card and installation of a NI-DAQ that supports the 6013 is not functional with Labview SE! NI support confirmed that the 6013 was unusable with Labview SE even though there is no clue that is the case in the online support files. NI support suggested I try the Labview 7.0 Express
Demo software until a student version of 7.0 is available but the demo software does not seem to support the PCI-6013. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this problem?
Thanks for any help someone can offer.
Bob

To preface my answer, here is some information that is located on our website ( FAQ for LabVIEW Student Edition). http://www.ni.com/labviewse/labviewse_faq.htm.
Can I get technical support for LabVIEW Student Edition?
There will NOT be any direct (voice or e-mail) technical support for the LabVIEW Student Edition. Students are asked to consult their instructors about their problems.
Note:  The LabVIEW Student Edition is available to students, faculty, and staff for personal educational use only. It is not intended for research or institutional use. For more information about institutional or research licensing, please follow this link for information on our Academic Site Licensing.
That being said, the reason the PCI-6013 won't work with the LabVIEW
6i Student Edition (SE) is that only an old and "modified" version of the NI-DAQ driver works with the SE. That board was not yet released at the time of that driver release, thus not supported in the SE. Apparently, that board will work in version 7 of the LabVIEW SE, provided that the appropriate drivers are installed. This can be found through the following KnowledgeBase (KB).

Drivers for LabVIEW 7.0 Express Student Edition

Keep in mind that you can program a DAQ board in other languages than LabVIEW such as C++, C, Visual Basic and .NET languages in you have any of these available to you.

Do i need to have some additional hardware to use labview real time with PCI 6013?

You can not use the PCI-6013 board with LabVIEW Real-Time.
We offer three platforms for LabVIEW Real-time. PXI embedded controllers, 7030 data-acquisition plug-in boards (7030/xxxx) and FieldPoint. For more information on these options go to www.ni.com/products and then choose Real-Time from the menu on the left. There are PCI versions of the 7030 boards. Each 7030 board has a data-acquistion board attached to it (6030E, 6040E or 6533). When you embed a LabVIEW Real-Time program on the 7030 you will be able to access the daughter board. You can not access other boards from the embedded program. If you want to use several daq cards in your real-time system I would recommend a PXI chassi and PXI daq boards.

  • Trouble in the configuration of a PCI-6013

    Hi:
I´m triying to get the MAX to recognize my PCI-6013 but i haven´t been able to get the DAQ board configured. I installed the package included with the board that contains LabVIEW 6.01 evaluation software and NI-DAQ 6.9.Of7 repeatedly, and then installed the board in a pci slot for several times. WindowsXP recognizes new hardware but when i try to install it no driver is found. I tried it whith the NI-DAQ 7.0 and the board got configured, but when i run a program i developed with the same board in another pc (and it worked perfectly) y get a 10001 error, something about wrong string orther or something like that. I thouth that maybe it had to do with the wrong channel definition (i did it as virtual channels, for an analog
input and 8 analog I/O). Well, i would like to get the sistem going with the NI-DAQ 6.9.Of7 since it worked in the past in another Pc ,or some hint in why i get that error working with the NI-DAQ 7.0. I would really apreciate any help, and thank you in advance, it´s nice to be able to rely in someone else with more knowledge and that is willing to help the others. Thank you again.

I am not quite sure why the disk which shipped with your PCI-6013 included version 6.9.0f7. The PCI-6013 is one of our newer boards, and as such, is only supported by NI-DAQ 6.9.3 or Traditional NI-DAQ 7.0. These are the only two versions of the driver which will support this board.
Traditional NI-DAQ 7.0 and NI-DAQ 6.9.3 are completely compatible. The VIs which you will use in LabVIEW to program your PCI-6013 are the same. Both of these drivers are available for free download from our web site.
As for the -10001 error you are receiving, usually this has to do with an error in the channel string applied. Please see the following Knowledge Base article on our website for more information on this error.

  • LabView and Firewire support under Mac OS X

I've been following the Labview upgrades for Mac OS X and noticed that now there is a move towards supporting at least some USB and PCI devices. We have a DAQPad system in the lab that uses Firewire and I was wondering when NI will be supporting these types of devices under OS X under LabView...
I'd love to move all of our equipment off Windows simply for the ease of administering them and using OS X and Labview seems to be a great option except for the limitations on portable DAQ systems since it would appear that LabView isn't supported multifunction DAQ either USB / FW / PCMCIA very well under OS X.

I ordered NI USB-9161 thermocouple ADC. On the NI website it was claimed that the device can be used under windows, Linux and OS-X. However the cd included in the package only referred to Windows (in the read-me file on the cd however it was confirmed the device could be used under Linux and OS-X.)
I have downloaded the OS-X NI-DAQ MX Base from the NI website and installed the package. This package should have the USB driver. According to the docs with the USB device these devices come with stand alone datalogging software. However I can't locate any USB datalogging software anywhere on the NI website. Also one could test at least if the device is recognnized with the experimentation and automation explorer. Again I can't locate this app for the OS-X.
The OS X system detects a device 28082 (vendor: 14627) on the USB bus.
I would approeciate any help to get the USB-9161 working under OS-X.

  • How does the system Validyne pressure transducer -- Validyne CD280-Dual-- SCB-68-- PCI-6024E-- LABVIEW work and how can we calibrate the pressure transducer?

    Hello there,
I am completely new to the LABVIEW software.
I am learning an existing LABVIEW code of my pressure acquisition system (attached) which has the data path as following: Validyne pressure transducer --> Validyne CD280-Dual--> SCB-68--> PCI-6024E--> LABVIEW and I have some question:
    1. How does the complete system from transducer to the LABVIEW work? ie if we apply the pressure at the transducer, it will change the resistance of the transducer then ....?
    2. How can I find the equation which express the relationship between the pressure and the voltage at the oupt of the Validyne CD280-Dual in the LABVIEW?
    3. If I want to do the calibration for the transducer, what are steps?
    Thanks,

  • Ni PCI 6013 syncronization

I wonder if you can help me, i want to give the PCI 6013 I/O card a reset signal every 1 second. Is it possible in anyway to do this. I aim to syncronize a few of the cards i am going to use in a measurement campiagn with the help of a GPS SYSTEM. I would appreciate it tremendously if you could give me any suggestions on how i can accomplish this, with the use of your PCI 6013 I/O/ card. I am using Labview 7 to do the measurements.
    Kind regards

    Hey Pieter,
Another suggestion. If you are wanting to synchronize the analog inputs with the gps digital signal, an easy way to accomplish this would be to use the gps digital signal as an external clock for the analog input operations.
If you use a digital signal as an external clock, you will acquire one reading from the channel(s) in the scan list everytime the digital signal has a transition. This would create an easy way for the gps signal to set when you are actually reading data. Take a look at the LabVIEW shipping example 'Cont Acq&Graph Voltage-Ext Clk VI' that illustrates how to continuously acquire from analog input channel(s) using an external clock.
I hope this helps. Good luck with your application.

    Todd

  • Does LabVIEW 8.6 support the NXT toolkit?

Does LabVIEW 8.6 support the NXT toolkit?, the NXT toolkit 1.0.1 patch does not give instructions on how to load it with LabVIEW 8.6.   Does anyone know how to load the patch with LabVIEW 8.6?
    LEGOAustin

    Hi LEGOAUSTIN,
Check out the forum dedicated to Lego: http://forums.ni.com/ni/board?board.id=beta18. It is largely community driven but sometimes NI employees post.
I would also talk to Lego about NXT support. Check out his KB on the issue: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/59F9356834A0E85086257244007A3354?OpenDocument.
What I can give you in the meantime is to ensure you've done the right order:
Install the LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Toolkit v1.0
    Restart the computer
    Install the LEGO patch 1.0.1
As for explicit support in LabVIEW 8.6, it doesn't appear to be any right now and I cannot comment on the future.
A quick Google Search came up with this as a possible work around: http://forums.nxtasy.org/index.php?showtopic=3277

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:

Does it go through properly this time?

  • N900 Software support is shockingly bad!!!

Nokia. Why release a phone with no/very little software support? It's been about 4 months since the release and it's still not much better!!!
I replaced my Iphone with the N900 because it's meant to be an Iphone beater, but the truth is looking sadly the opposite.
Nokia Map loader is not working and the PC Suite has bugs and it's complicated having to switch between PC Suite mode and Mass Storage mode. What's happened to my free Navigation?
Come on Nokia this is embarrasing, I absolutely love this phone and I want to recommed it to my friends, but with the software situation that's not a possibility.

    N900 Personal Review
Hi all, I would like to make some comments about the New Nokia N900.
    Shortly the phone SUCKS!
I have been a Nokia user for about 10 years, and for the past 3 I have been using the NSeries, I started 3 years ago with the N95, then moved’ on to the N96 an now as you can see I have had the chance to use the N900 even though my original plan was the N97. The reason for this is that I contacted my provider (T-Mobile UK) as I was due an upgrade, and was told that they didn’t do this handset directly, but I could get this phone if I did the upgrade though Carphone Warehouse (Don’t even get me started on them) any way I contacted Carphone Warehouse and told them that I was due an upgrade and wanted the N97, the idiot on the phone started telling me that the N900 was much better and that it was faster and all. I told him I would have a look into it my self, at least to read some comparisons online. After having read the comparison on several sites, on “paper” the N900 sounded much better, faster processor (N97 is about 400Mhz, N900 is about 600Mhz), more RAM, the use of a Linux based OS and so on, sounded great, I accepted the upgrade with 14 days exchange if not happy.
Well I have used the phone for about 3 days, and let me tell you what I think…
The device is not as fast as people say, you would not think that there is about 200Mhz speed difference between them and that the N900 has double of the RAM then the N97. Yes it does allow you to open several tasks at once, but the CPU drain off more demanding applications is definitely noticeable, for example when running a YouTube page in the background with a video playing and opening other apps, the music temporarily stops just like the N95/N96 did/do.
The fact that it’s a new mobile technology makes it also not very popular right now and there is lack of application unlike the Symbian OS used by the N97, even Nokia them self are not up to speed, the OVI map on the N900 is version 1 point something and is really useless, unlike version 3.03 (3.04 BETA out too) of the N97 (don’t forget that I am using the N97 as a Symbian comparison).
The firmware upgrade is very complex for general users, this includes having to use a Flashing Tool and command lines, I had some issues at the beginning and I am an IT technician. The NSU (Nokia Software Update) didn’t detect the new version available even though the phone was delivered with version 1.x and the version available was 3.2x.
Even the phone “Hard Reset” is complicated, once again you have to use the Flashing Tool and download an other file called EMMC that should technically erase the 32GB memory, but be were, after having used this file my contact were still there and some other information were there too such as my OVI e-mail account and my SKYPE account details, there was also a file from the sketch software that had not been deleted and had to do so manually.
Talking about SKYPE, many sites when comparing N97 to N900 state that the N900 has SKYPE and some other software unlike the N97, well I use to use SKYPE on the N95, it may not be inbuilt but no one says you can’t download it, I use to have SKYPE Lite with many more features then the “messaging” SKYPE inbuilt in the N900. I also use to have 3 different versions of Opera, Windows Live messenger, the IPlayer application, an application provided by SKY TV to control TV listing and Remote Recording, Google Map, Google YouTube application and much, much more, most probably you wont find half of those for the N900, but you don’t see anyone stating that anywhere.
The N900 also lack the option to create folder to organize your applications, any application is “plonked” with the rest in a random order and there is nothing you can do about it, apart from creating a short-cut on one of the 4 useless screens and try to organize it that way.
It also seem to lack the use of the SIM contact option, all you can do is copy from the SIM but not use the SIM storage, now my SIM allows me to store 200 contacts, this would A) save memory on the phone, and B) be used as a back-up of the numbers. I normally use it as B, I back-up the numbers on the SIM (apart from the PC) because the SIM does not die as easy as the phone, lets say (and this has happened to me before with the N96) that the phone drops in the bath, the phone would most probably short and die, but if you had the numbers on the SIM you can move to a back-up phone no problem, same as if you drop the phone and it brakes.
An other issues I had with the N900 is that when you create short-cuts on one of the 4 desktop, you cant align the items, so you may have one up, one down and so on, you would think that they would have a snap to grid or something, but no such thing.
The battery is worse then any phone I have seen, I have lost a “line” while playing only 2 YouTube videos over 3G network hardly anything else running, now the videos were about 3 to 5 minutes each so lets say I lost a battery “line” in 10 minutes, I guess with-in 1 hour your battery would be flat.
The battery charger is not a standard Nokia one (pin) but it uses the same socked of the USB cable, maybe they run out of money while designing, who knows, the only good thing about the charging is that you can charge it while connecting to the PC via USB.
The keyboard misses the mouse pad that we have on the N97, and even thought the device supports on-screen keyboard too, I have noticed that many of the application only support the normal slide-out keyboard, application such as the OVI map (while using the search address option).
The messaging options are very limited too, IM and SMS is all included in an option called conversations located in the main menu, as far as I have seen you are also not able to select multi items when trying to delete them, and this does not only happened in the “conversations” section, I had to delete all the inbuilt songs 1 by 1 and several other files 1 by 1.
The camera options are very limited too, and the picture quality is very poor as far as I can see, I have taken better pictures with the N95 2 years ago.
There seem to also be a limitation when trying to edit website short-cuts name on the desktop, the name is basically what ever the site owners use as a title for the site, for example YouTube uses “YouTube – Broadcast Yourself” and that’s what the phone seems to use as a desktop short-cut title.
The 3G seem to also run slower on this device, web-page loading time between this phone and the N95 seems to be slower more then faster.
And this is what I have discovered in 2 and a half days of using the phone, I don’t even want to imagine how dissatisfied I would have to be if I had to keep this phone for 12/18/24 months, luckily I have the 14 days to exchange and will contact Carphone Warehouse in the morning to arrange an exchange for the N97, I have already taken my SIM card out and placed it in a spare N95 I have at home, that’s how quick I want to get away from the device.
My general advice would be to stay away from this phone and technology at least for now, and not to always believe what is stated by device specs on “paper” as sometimes it’s not all as expected.
This phone reminds me of a scene from the film “Bad Boys 2” when Will Smith is driving the black Porsche with Martin Lawrence.
Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence): You mean, y'all paid, what, $80,000 for this car and you ain't got no damn cup holder?!
Mike Lowrey (Will Smith): It's $105,000 and this happens to be one of the fastest production cars on the planet. Zero to sixty in four seconds, sweetie. Limited edition.
Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence): You damn right it's limited! No cup holder, no back seat. Just a shiny **bleep** with two chairs in it. I guess we the balls just draggin' the **bleep** along.

  • Clearing configuration FIFO on PCI-6013

I am writing a driver for a PCI-6013 for a legacy DOS based system. Everything I need is working except that I cannot clear the configuration FIFO so I can change the channel setup during use. According to the E-Series RLPM writing a 1 to the Write_Strobe_0 register (windowed write) will do this. As far as I can tell this has no effect at all. Is it possible that there is something in the STC setup that is preventing clearing the config FIFO or might this be something unique to the 6013?

    John,
You may want to consider posting this question to the Driver Development Kit (DDK) discussion forum (link available below). This forum deals with questions concerning register-level programming (RLP), alternative operating systems, etc.

  • Message : "LabVIEW no longer supports this function..."

When you try to open a VI built in 7.1 using version 8. x and if it has a function like Open/Create/Replace file.vi  or Write Characters to File.vi , you get a message that says LabVIEW no longer supports that VI and instead use of another VI is recommended.
Assuming I ignore this warning ( maybe there are too many replacements to be made ) and go ahead and build the VI with LV8.0, will something unforeseen happen ? Because despite the warning of not supporting the function,  LV8.0 App. Builder still compiles and builds the EXE using those VIs. I do know that LabVIEW is quite forgiving and tolerates inefficient code but I don't want to compromise efficiency if I can avoid it..
There are many instances when you need to modify code built with previous versions and it may not be viable to spend time to replace functions just to make them compatible with the new version.
Can someone enlighten on this ?
    Thanks

    Raghunathan
LV2012 to Automate Hydraulic Test rigs.

The thing that you need to do is save those lists of warnings and go through them to see the comments matter. Some of the unsupported functions could be because the function they performed is no longer needed due to other changes in the language. For example, in V1 you had special formatting VIs to prepare data for plotting. Starting with V2 you could just wire data to the graphs and the display would morph themselves to match the datatype wired to them.
But back to you main point, it used to be that the changes that happened between one version and the next were of the sort that the conversion code could fix on the fly during the conversion process. There were things live terminals were moved around or the datatype of a function was changed. When you saved your code in the new version LV would simply reestablish the connection to the new terminals or insert a type conversion routine so the existing code would continue working. And let me be clear, LV still does that in most cases.
The problem is that NI has started making changes to the way the language works that are not possible to fix automatically. For example, the decision of whether or not to display scrollbars on a subpanel used to be a property of the subpanel - now its a property of the window being inserted into the subpanel. Now you could make the argument that logically this is the way it should have been all along (and I'd agree with you), but the fact remains that this isn't something that LV can fix on the fly because there's no way it can know at compile-time what VIs you going to be inserting into the subpanel. In the end, NI is left to make the decision whether to fix something that was implemented incorrectly the first time or leave it alone for "compatibility reasons".
Of course this opens up the question of how much input from the user community NI gets before making changes - which is clearly not enough considering all the uproar over the interface changes with V8.x. But it also gives me some hope that someday they may drop stacked sequence structures from LV - something that has been there since day 1 and has never really belonged in the language.

  • LabVIEW RT driver support for CEI-620?

    Hi All,
I am using PXI-8106 to run heavy-duty communication and one chasis holds the CEI-620 card (third party ARINC429 card from GE, formerly Condor Engineering).  Currently  on the PXI controller only runs LabVIEW RT (Pharlap) since I did not want to install Windows OS to slow the performance.  Now here it is the problem, GE does not provide LabVIEW RT driver support for CEI-620 (they do have LabVIEW RT support for CEI-830 though, but that card is PMC interface). Basically right now MAX can not recognize the CEI-620 card on the host side, and I can not deploy my ARINC429 application VI to the target PXI controller. I am wondering anybody here has encountered the same problem and develop the LabVIEW RT driver for CEI-620 on his own?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Unfortunately I don't have much more information to offer.  I would suggest checking to make sure you have all the correct device information whe you create the ini file.  I think you should still be able to develop a driver for a poll based device.  It should be easier to generate an ini file if you do not require interrupt information.  Make sure you have the correct identification information and try using the VISA Driver Development Wizard again.
