PCs won't route externally through AirPort Extreme

I just installed an AirPort Extreme.  A couple of PCs that are connected (both via LAN and WiFi) will not route out to the Internet.
ping 10.0.1.1 (the AirPort) works
ping 10.0.1.x (other connected devices) works
ping 8.8.8.8 (Google DNS) fails\
Not surprisingly...also will not load web pages or make any other Internet connections.
All other devices (non PC) connected to the router (both LAN and WiFi) work just fine.  Every now and then the PCs are able to ping 8.8.8.8 (and load web pages, etc) successfully.  After a few seconds (maybe a minute) they stop working.
I've tried cable swaps with working devices on the LAN.  No help.  Issue affects WiFi connected PCs anyway, so probably not a wire issue.
Ideas?

The first place to check on any PC would be the Firewall settings, which may be blocking the connection attempt from the Internet to the PC.
Microsoft Security Essentials.....if you have it installed.....can do the same thing.
This Windows support document may provide some additional ideas.

  • Internet connection is through airport extreme is not connected

internet connection through airport extreme is not connected maybe there is a problem setting it up

Is it possible that using a Netgear Router connected
to the AE (which is also a router if I understand
correctly) could cause connection problems ?
    Yes.
Ensure that that the AEBS is configured to not distribute IP addresses.
Also ensure that the AEBS is on a different channel to the DG834G.

  • My iMac (OS 10.7.4) has suddenly stopped printing to my Epson CX4800 printer through Airport Extreme, although it will print if connected via USB. Meanwhile, my MacBook (OS 10.5.8) prints still prints wirelessly. Please help.

May iMac (OS 10.7.4) has suddenly stopped printing to my Epson CX4800 printer through Airport Extreme, though my MacBook (OS 10.5.8) continues to function just fine). The iMac will print if it is connected to the printer directly via USB. The iMac continues to connect to the Internet wirelessly. I've tried resetting the printer and ensuring the driver is up to date, but no joy.
    Any suggestions?

  • I have a Cisco/Linksys WRT-54G wireless router and 2 Airport Extremes (the small ones that plug directly into the wall). Is it possible to extend the network from the router using these two AEs? I have a DVD player and Ext HD plugged into the router too..

I have a Cisco/Linksys WRT-54G wireless router and 2 Airport Extremes (the small ones that plug directly into the wall). Is it possible to extend the network from the router using these two AEs? I have a DVD player and Ext HD plugged into the router too. Any ideas? I'm guessing the only way is to do what I've seen in these community pages which states that it can be done but it will drop the bandwidth by 50%. Thoughts?? Thanks!

The Cisco/Linksys WRT-54G was one of the very few routers said to be compatible with Apple's implementation of WDS (Wireless Distribution System) settings.
The info that I have on file indicates that only the WRT-54G versions 4 and under were compatible, so that would be one bridge to cross.
Even if you find that your Cisco/Linksys might be the right version, Apple never published instructions on how to configure the Express devices with other manufactures, so users were left to their own devices to try to figure out how to get things working. Apple's instructions to connect to other Apple devices are in the link below:
    WDS network
If you were hoping to use 2 Express devices in this type of configuration...even if it works...the bandwidth penalties will be extremely severe.
The first Express drops the bandwidth (and speed) on the entire network in half and the second halves everything again. So, the result, in effect would be a "g" wireless network running at 25% speed. Few users would consider installing this type of network.
At this point, it becomes one of those things where the fact that you might be able to do something does not mean that there would be much value in doing so. But, it is your decision to decide if you want to try to proceed.

  • Configuring wired desktop through airport extreme

I have successfully connected a cable modem to the airport extreme and to my wireless mac. However, i need to connect my roommate's dell desktop to the internet and i hoped to do it through airport extreme. My problem is that i cannot get her computer to recognize that it is plugged into the LAN (<-->) port of my airport.
Can anyone help me with a step by step of what i need to do on her computer? (I've tried the network settings, but i cannot figure it out.)
She has a Windows XP computer. We're connected through Comcast and have a comcast username and password.
Also, i want to use security but if i set up a WPA password will she be able to connect? Thanks.

Vinita, Welcome to the discussion area!
Sorry, but I know very little about how to configure XP. Essentially you want to configure it to use Ethernet and DHCP to get an IP address.
You want to ensure that your AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) is configured to distribute IP addresses.
WPA and WEP only affect wireless connections and have nothing to do with Ethernet connections.

  • How can I mirror my macbook pro desktop through Airport Extreme to a digital projector with only VGA and DVI inputs?

How can I mirror my Macbook Pro desktop through Airport Extreme to a digital projector with only a DVI & VGA inputs?? Want to use it for presantation like Keynote/ Pages.

Never mind, I solved it.  Didn't know the converter needed a power source to operate (duh!)  Now I have that, it works just fine.......

  • I can connect to internet with my MBP through Airport Extreme, but my iOS devices can't. Please help.

I can connect to internet with my MBP through Airport Extreme, but my iOS devices can't. Please help.

GerleMan, Welcome to the discussion area!
    There are two probably causes:
Your ISP is blocking the port used by Entourage to send mail and the ISP used by the other wireless networks is not.
    OR
Your ISP doesn't like OS X's default MTU seting of 1500. If this were the case it should also affect any large file transfers you try to make from your Mac to the Internet.

  • Video Streaming in Windows media player won't play through Airport Extreme

Hello and thank you for reading my issue.
I have the current square shaped airport extreme base station. My mother has a Windows XP system on her Toshiba laptop and she takes an online class which has video streaming for the lectures. When we connect to the network wirelessly or with an ethernet cable through the base station, the video will not begin to buffer and won't play from the website. It just states ready and doesn't buffer. However, if we connect the laptop straight to our cable modem without the base station, the videos stream and play perfectly. Anybody know how we can fix this to play through the wireless network? Thanks a lot.
MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I've played with all sorts of software settings and configurations. This is what worked for me, but I'm not sure how it would work for anyone else, or if the issues are even related, but here goes.
1 - Turn multicast rate to 1 MBPS in the drop down menu found in Airport Utility>Airport icon>Wireless Options Button.
2 - Turn off multicast in Windows Media Player or Real Player
3 - Turn on Video Overlay Optimization check box in Real Player.
These things worked for me, hopefully they will help or give you some ideas for your own situtation.

  • Can't see External HD through Airport Extreme Base Station

I have upgraded to the Apple Airport Extreme Firmware 7.1. Previously I was unable to see my 2 External HDs that are connected to the base station via a powered USB hub. Both of the HDs are FAT32s. I had hoped the firmware update would resolve the problem. But I am still not seeing the HDs. I connect to the base station wireless through a MacBook.
Any clues/help would be appreciated. I've scanned through several posts and seen people with similar problems and others that can see their HDs but not some files.

I suggest using the following instructions to re-check your AirPort Extreme Card/Antenna cable installation in your G4 iMac just to be sure nothing was missed: iMac (17-inch 1GHz) and iMac (USB 2.0): Customer-Installable Parts Instructions
Also, check that the antenna cable is firmly attached per this Apple Article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108039
I have the base station connected to a pc so I can't download iStumbler.
For the PC, you can use NetStumbler instead.
I'm not sure how to check if a signal is being sent through Airport utility.
Instead of the AirPort Utility, you can use the Internet Connection utility to verify signal strength of your base station. To access this utility, just right-click the AirPort status icon in the menu bar, and then, select it from the drop-down menu.

  • Accessing an external harddrive through Airport Extreme

    Hello,
I have read that one should be able to access an external harddrive that is connected to a airport extreme from any computer that has the internet.
    Is this true?
How does one find the Internet address?
    Regards,
    Jon

    Anybody got any ideas?
    Cheers,

  • SAP NetWeaver Portal won't open through AirPort Extreme

    Hello,
I am trying to access this site: https://ess.sobeys.com/irj/portal
When my iMac is connected to the internet through our AirPort Extreme, the site will not load. It will also not load on any device (iPod, iPhone) connected to the network created by the AirPort Extreme.
When I bypass the AirPort and connect the iMac directly to the internet, the site opens.
Also, when I turn off the Wi-Fi on my iPhone and use 3G data, the site opens too.
I can not find any info online about this. I think it may have to do with ports on the AirPort Extreme.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Patrick

It happens to me with one song, the only song of more than 2,000 that I've edited (I cut out the beginning, don't remember what program I used). I have no idea why.

  • Access external drive remotely through Airport Extreme

My Airport Extreme (v 7.7.3) is setup at the office with a connected drive and everything works great as long as I am within the same network as the airport.
How do I access the drive from home on a different network? Each time I get the error "Connection Failed: there was a problem connecting to the server. The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
Would greatly appreciate any help on this matter.
    Thanks

I think that John Galt may be referring to Apple's Back to My Mac feature, known as BTMM.
I don't use this method to connect back to my home network from the Internet, so cannot say if it is still broken or not.
I am able to access both my Time Capsule and a hard drive connected to an AirPort Extreme from the Internet using my laptop which is running the Yosemite operating system.
But......and this is a big BUT......I have a fixed Internet IP address that is supplied by my Internet Service Provider.....and....I use a simple modem (only one Ethernet port), not a modem/router or gateway device that is often furnished by Internet Service Providers to their customers.
I also use a setup known as Port Mapping, which is done by AirPort Extreme, which functions as the main router for the network.
If you have the following, I may be able to help you:
    1) Fixed Internet IP address supplied by your provider
    2) A simple modem
    3) An Apple router that functions as the main router for your network
John's comments about trying to "hack" any operating system are great advice.  There are some articles floating around on this site and others that do suggest this as a possible "fix" for some current issues that Yosemite is experiencing. I would never advise a user to even consider something like this unless they were experienced programmers....and....they have a "test" Mac to work with.

  • External HDD not showing up in finder through airport extreme

I have a 2011 Airport Extreme that I'm attatching an external HDD via USB that's been formatted with a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) partition.
I can see my drive in the AirPort Utility under Disks > Disks, I've enabled File Sharing, but I can't see it in the finder.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks!

The USB port on the AirPort Exreme is under powered. For that reason, you almost always have to use a powered USB hub with an attached hard drive....even if the hard drive has its own power supply.
Be sure to restart your entire network after you install the powered USB hub so that the disk will be recognized.
