PDF Generator Watched Folder Settings

Hi, In Livecycle ES PDF Generator, I am using the Distiller Service with a Watched Folder Endpoint to convert my files. I can currently get an output into the Result folder such as C:\livecycle\WatchedFolder\Result\<inputfilename>\output.pdf This is using \%F\ as the Output Parameter in the WatchedFolder settings which is described here: ------------------------------------------- Output Parameter Mappings Used to configure the outputs of the service and operation. These choices are available: Single Object: The pattern is Result\%F.ps and the source destination is Result\sourcefilename.ps. List: The pattern is Result\%F\ and the source destination is Result\sourcefilename\source1 (output 1) and Result\sourcefilename\source2 (output 2). Map: The pattern is Result\%F\ and the source destination is Result\sourcefilename\file1 and Result\sourcefilename\file2. If there is more than one object in the map the pattern is Result\%F.ps and the source destination is Result\sourcefilename1.ps (output 1) and Result\sourcefilenam2.ps (output 2). ---------------------------------------- I was wondering if it is possible to have the output directed to a location like: C:\livecycle\WatchedFolder\Result\output.pdf without the extra folder in the Result directory as I had previously. I have tried different combinations for the Output Parameter settings but so far have been unsuccessful. Does anyone know if this can be done? Thanks Dion

That gives me output in the /Result directory, but the files are named
output and output_0 (with no file extension)

Can you indicate the exact version of Adobe LiveCycle that is being used? Also, please let me know which application server, database and MS Office versions are being used.
Also, please delete (or achive) your existing application server log files, and restart your application server. Then repeat the steps that lead to this error.
Finally, please post the application server log files.

Print PDFs using watched folder

Hi,
I am new to Adobe livecycle. I created webservice which generates PDFs in a folder. I want to set that folder as a watch folder and want to print PDFs generated in specific interval. Basically it should figure out if there are any new PDFs and print it to the network printer. I could able to figure out how to set up a watch folder using existing services as a endpoint for watch folder, but none of the exixting services serves exact purpose of printing PDFs from folder. So I am stuck. How should I proceed? Can I create my own process and register it and use it as a end point for watched folder? If yes then how?
Can somebody help me?

Everything is a service in LiveCycle so, yes, generatePrintOuput is a service.
You can create a new process with Workbench (e.g. TestPrint). Then add the generatePrintedOutput step and a print step (from the Output category). Then save and activate your new process. This will become a new service (TestPrint) which you can add an watchfolder endpoint to.
Then drop the file in the watch folder for that new service (TestPrint) and the service will call generatePrintedOutput and print.

ARGH!!! Distiller 8 refuses to see Watch Folder!?!

Okay, this whole Acrobat 8 hoo-har is driving me nutso! I have to finally admit defeat and ask for help...
We've been running Mac OS Acrobat 4 through OS X Acrobat 7 with virtually no problems whatsoever for years. And now the second we switch over to Intel Macs and Acrobat 8, we have nothing but one problem after the next...
Since all I've experienced are Distiller ioerror issues (myself and other people on this forum) with Intel Macs and Leopard, I decided to throw in the towel and downgrade back to Tiger for our production stations and attempt to create a valid workflow with CS3 and Tiger, since there seems to be far too many unresolved issues with Distiller 8 and Leopard.
Now I'm no dunderhead when it comes to setting up Distiller workflows, I've been doing this for years for our newspaper and others in our group. But every single time I set up a watch folder in Distiller 8 or the 8.1.2 update, the resulting .ps file is passed from the Inbox straight to the Outbox without an error and without a PDF being produced.

It's the weirdest thing. You can see the output file in the listing above, but there's never a PDF produced.
Dragging the .ps file onto the Distiller window itself produces a perfect PDF, but Watch Folder workflow is completely broken.

...you'll notice that the file dragged onto the Distiller window had its prologue.ps and epilogue.ps files processed. This was not processed by the Watch Folder method. And YES, I did check the settings file under the Watch Folder options and they ARE set to process the file's prologue and epilogue.
The settings for the "folder.joboptions" and "LONDON FREE PRESS.joboptions" files are absolutely identical.
Now, I can remove the folder from the Watch Folder queue, destroy the folder on the desktop and create a new one, adding it to the Watch Folder list in Distiller every time, and it does the same thing every time.
I've tried re-installing CS3, I've tried fixing permissions, I've tried updating and downgrading Acrobat and Distiller to and from the latest fixes. I've tried font cache rebuilds (I know it's not related, but I'm clutching at straws here). Nothing works.
Does anyone have any clues?

I checked the privileges on the files I'm generating. All of the .ps files I'm creating from QXP 7.3 are read-write.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by getting users to log into the server as the server name. We're using Distiller on a per-client machine basis, not a server scenario with users sending files to a remote station for processing. The client stations use an ad tracking application to pull ad content from our server farm to their station, they work on the ad and create a PDF by sending a postscript file to a watch folder on the desktop. Each station has its own copy of Acrobat 8 Pro.
Once the PDF is produced, they send the ad back to the storage server.
I've also checked the drive, fixed permissions, and even destroyed the plist files, forcing Distiller to recreate them from scratch.
I've created a new watch folder, added the current Distiller settings file to it - nothing.
I've destroyed the watch folder and its attached settings, created a new folder to watch with a different naming convention, and added a new Distiller setting set to it manually. Nothing.
I've tried erasing the drive, installing Tiger from scratch, installing the latest builds of CS3, QXP and Suitcase, creating a new folder, adding a new watch queue with the parameters I need. Same thing happens.
I've tried Diskwarrior, Onyx and AppleJack permission/directory fixes. Nothing has been found and nothing was fixed.
I've also tried different font configurations, in case there was some underlying corruption.
All ads we send to the Distiller inbox have all of their fonts verified as good by FontDoctor. I've even created a dummy ad with a few coloured boxes and no fonts to see if that will distill. Nothing.
In every occurrence, Distiller processes the .ps file's epilogue and prologue, passes the .ps file to the outbox and creates no PDF.
If I drag the postscript files from whatever location I place them into the Distiller window, they process and render perfectly.
I have configured two machines and both of them do the exact same thing.
Both machines are brand new Intel dual-core PowerMacs with 2GB RAM. All machines have brand new Tiger installs and run the latest builds of CS3, along with Quark Xpress 7.3. Both machines used to run Leopard, but since all we saw was Distiller 8 ioerrors running CS3 under that OS we downgraded in favour of Tiger, hoping the bugs would go away.
This is truly awful. We can't use these machines the way we want and I have no idea what to do next... And I'm CERTAINLY not going to start creating custom scripts to make Distiller work the way it should out of the gate...
Has anyone heard of this problem at all?

PDF Generator multithreading

One question about windows environment for LiveCycle PDF Generator 9.0.0.2. We have installed this module on Windows 2008 Server/JBoss 4.2.1 machine. Now it doesn’t convert MS word documents in
multithreaded mode. All settings are done exactly as described in installation manual. In admin console added 12 windows users, all dialogs are dismissed for each user…
Does it help if we install Windows 2008 Server in terminal mode?
Does it make any difference for PDF Generator?

Any Tutorial / Sample to create Single PDF from multiple source files using PDF assembler in a watched folder process. I have a client application which will prepare number of source files and some meta data information (in .XML) which will be used in header/footer. Is it possible to put a run time generated DDX file in the watch folder and use it in Process. If possible how can I pass the file names in the DDX. Any sample Process will be very helpful.

If possible, make use of Assembler API in your client application instead of doing this using watched folder. Here are the Assembler samples : LiveCycle ES2.5 * Programming with LiveCycle ES2.5
Watched folder can accept zip files (sample : Configuring a watched folder to handle multiple input files and write results to a single folder | Adobe LiveCycle Blog ). Excel save as pdf hangs when launched through a watch folder

Hi there,
I've configured a watch folder to launch a batch file which launch a .exe file I've written in C++
In this application I launch Excel which open a .XLS document which contains macros.
At the end of the computations there is a macro which save as pdf.
At this point everything hangs and I have to cancel the job I've created for the watch folder.
If I disable the watch folder and I place the starting file inside the watch folder
and I manually launch the .bat file (which usually is launched by the watch folder) everything works perfectly.
I really really hope there will be someone here coming with a solution for me.
By the way on the windows forum I've got a very disappointing answer where they stated it was probably a fault of my application.
Well fortunately that was not the problem because
I can reproduce the problem even removing my application from the equation so now we have cleared
the issue is not casued by my application.
So if you want to try it yourself just follow the steps below:
1) create an excel document so that after you open it it automatically run a save as pdf operation and close excel. (let's call this document "PRINT_TEST.xls")
2) create a batch file named "Excel_launcher.bat" and write the command
""C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\EXCEL.EXE" "C:\teststampapdf\PRINT_TEST.xls""
3) Now create a watch folder job that execute that batch file.
something like "C:\watchfolderX\Excel_launcher.bat"
4) now create a watch folder that uses that job and for file filter use "*.txt" enable it and start it
5) now launch manually the batch file and you'll see that it print the pdf and closes itself
6) drop a txt file inside the watch folder you've created and you'll see it hangs at the save as pdf operation.
This is something that have to be fixed and it's due to excel.
I can launch and save documents with all the application I want but excel so that's the problem.
Please take a look and keep me updated I badly need to find a solution for this issue.

Weird Distiller/ Watched folder issue

I have encountered an issue in Acrobat Distiller that has me puzzled.
If I drop a .ps file directly into Distiller, it distills and makes a good PDF file. If I put that same file in my watched folder, it fails every time with the following error:
Error in /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings/PDFX4 2008.joboptions:
/CheckCompliance out of range
I am not using PDFX4 as my settings file–I am using one of the defaults form Adobe: High Quality Print.
I can literally take the file that fails from the out folder after failing and drop it in the Distiller window and it distills perfectly. The watched folder is on the Desktop of an Intel iMac, not on a network. Both the OS and all Adobe Creative Suite apps are running all of the latest updates.
MacOS X 10.5.8
Acrobat Distiller 9.2.0
The Mac has been restarted, prefs trashed, the watched folder recreated, etc…
Any ideas?

It's a bug in Distiller.
I entered the entire term in Google:

Darn it. Three hours lost, a good part of it on Adobe.com looking for a Distiller update (none) or trial (not for Macs). Glad I didn't waste time trying to uninstall and reinstall Distiller, which apparently doesn't delete prefs and other system files.

Problems converting any form of document in PDF Generator

Hello,
Could anybody help. I have successfully installed the PDF Generator 7.0.2 on an Windows server 2003 Standard edition. When I put documents into the In folder, I understand, it is supposed to convert the document to another format in the out folder. It is not working at all. I get the following error file:
Failed to process job jobs.txt
Error Code: 11,020
Reason: The source file you submitted is not supported by this version of PDF Generator.
The in and out folder is set up on the client machine.
Please, help. Did I miss something out?

Hello everyone,
I had the same problem but I resolved it.
What you need to do is just copy the sample pdf generator (convertallfilestopdf) in the LiveCycle workbench.
Just change 1 thing in the sample: in the SetFileName properties, you can see their is just 1 record in the mappings (location ...)
Just delete this record!
Second thing: create a watched folder under your pfd generator service.
http://localhost:8080/adminui/, log on with username: administrator and password: password.
Navigate to your new service (e.g. VDAB PDF Creations). Click on your pdf generator service and you can see 3 records. Choose for Watched Folder and click on "Add". Leave everyting as the standard except the operation name. Choose for "invoke". Now you can see there are several variables. Only 1 is required. The inputdocument.
InputDocument: variable => *.*
OutputPDF document: %F.pdf
Now you can simply drop most of the file extensions (.doc, .jpg, .xls, ...) in the input folder and the service generate a PDF document.

PDF Generator process converting several document types

I am creating a PDF Conversion process, and I utilize a watched folder to fetch files. However, if I set the fileName parameter to * I get the error stating that the file extension is missing. If I use for example file.doc, all word documents are converted, but other formats will of course not be converted. choosing either variable or something else doesn't help. Any ideas?

Rename files in PDF Generator

Hi!
This is the situation.
I have an old aplication and im needed to print from it (over 80000 files).
This app always print with the same name (ex RP001) so, i cant use a standard PDF printer, because it keep asking to overwrite.
I need to know if LiveCycle PDF Generator can help me with this requirement (automatic change files names or something)

PDFG can definitely convert PS files to PDF in batch. A typical scenario is either sending these files to LiveCycle via a SOAP, or REST endpoint over HTTP, or the files can be dumped into a watched folder on disk, and PDFG will pick them up and give back a converted PDF.

Merging PDF's, what about settings?

I have a little "problem";
I shall make a 2 sided folder for printing, and I have selected the right resolution, color-settings, color-mode(CMYK) and color-profile according to the print-shops demand. I have made 2 PDF's, one for the front-side, and one for the back-side, with all the correct setting.
Then, my "problem" occures; what happens to the correct PDF-settings I selected, when I use Adobe Acrobat to merge the two PDF's into one PDF? Are my settings kept in the PDF-files, or what? I'm concerned about the settings for resolution, color-settings, color-mode(CMYK) and color-profile.

Thanks for your response. Could you please tell me is there any Adobe or adobe approved tool or software that I could make use of to retain Reader Extensions in my PDF after renaming of fields. Currently I am using Aspose PDF which allows me to rename fields and generates a new pdf once i rename it. But when i try to open it, it throws an error saying that "This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available. Please contact Author"and after that i am not able to edit and save data.

Configuring Watch Folder Problem - LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES

We bought the LiveCycle licensed version 8.2 installed in Linux machine.
LiveCycle PDF Generator ES and LiveCycle Reader Extension ES alone.
The person who installed was resigned from service, so this task has came to me.
I have just two question to all of them:
1. Configure the LiveCycle Reader Extension ES.
2. Create Watch folder concents for comment enabling purpose.
I have created an watch folder using the Services-->Applications and services-->Archive Management-->Samples - Reader Extensions - ReviewAndCommenting 1.0--> Configure.
The the configuring ReviewAndCommenting, "Security" tab "INVOKE_PERM" --> "allows Invocation of all operations on the Service", was checked.

how do you solve that case? I am also stuck in RES LCES 8.0 version with turnkey installation and took very long time processing. I can't download anyway.

Is there any Adobe LiveCycle PDF Generator for PS EXPERTS?

There seems to be a lot of question about this product with no answers. When you call Adobe you get the run around.
How is the product supposed to work?
When a basic installation is performed it does not do what is expected.
If you are suppose to be able to create Postscript files or drop Office documents in a watch folder or email them to the server and it converts them. Why does it not work? These are the basic function not a lot of development required. The only files that are converted are .PS and then it appends .PDF to the end of it. (test.ps.pdf) if fails on all office documents with an "Error Code: 11,020 Reason: The source file you submitted is not supported by this version of PDF Generator. If this product does not support this function then why did the installation require you to install Office before the Livecycle product is installed?

What you refer to is PDF Generator version 7.x Postscript edition.
In version 7 of the product there were 3 editions:

Problems converting DOC files in watched folder

Hi, Have a couple of issues with PDFG: We have managed to configure PDF generator and can view the AdminUI screens. However, when we place a word document in the IN folder, the OUT folder log displays the following message: ----------- Failed to process job <file> Error Code 1 009 Reason : The service to convert the document could not be looked up. ----------- The watched folder as well as services are on local drives. We get the same error when we use the AdminUI > 'create PDF' section to upload a doc/text file. However, we can right-click on a word document and convert it into a PDF. Both the JBoss and MySQL services are running. We also notice that the JBoss service takes a long time (> 1 hr) to start up. Our only requirement is to convert DOC files in watched folder to PDFs. Is there any way to speed up the service startup time? Regards, Nagaraj

- Yes. PDFG was installed on machine having an Office2003 install.
- Yes. The same user credentials were used for Office and PDFG.
- PDFG is not the only application installed. However, both memory/processor utilization were < 50% throughout the JBoss service process. The JBoss service stays on the "starting" mode for a long time.
- We have installed JDK 1.4.2_08
