PDF opacity lost between Toon Boom and Illustrator

When I 'export drawing to PDF' from Toon Boom Studio 5.0 (Build 5.1.13834) the opacity is lost on the PDF. When I then open the PDF in Adobe Illustrator I get the PDF Warning ‘The document contains PDF objects that have been reinterpreted: An unknown shading type was encountered’. The appearance of the element now has an opacity of 100%. I am working on Mac OS X v 10.6.8. Is there any way to preserve the opacity information during the first export to PDF from Toon Boom. Presently I have to just correct the opacity manually, but this is not possible where there are multiple 'layers' on the original drawing as I can’t seem to select the layers behind and the breakdown of the image has too many elements to do them all individually from the layers menu in Illustrator. For complicated drawings, it’s a nightmare! Thanks

ToonBoom is embedding custom data which AI can't interpret because it has no matching equivalent features. Could be anything from blending modes to differences in handling clipping paths. So no matter what, this will never change unless you change your procedures in TB or natively work in AI from the start.

It sounds like you may have assigned EPS files to open in a particular app. That causes anything ending in .eps to open in that app, and the OS ignores the rest of the UTI (Uniform Type Identifiers) data.
About the only way to fix it is to clear the LaunchServices database. Close all running applications. Open the Terminal and copy/paste the following line and press Enter:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
Close the Terminal and immediately restart. The OS will build a new database based on the installed applications. EPS files created by a particular application should now open in that app.

Wireless connection lost between my router and printer (hp officejet 4620)

My hp officejet 4620 printer has been working fine but now the wireless connection has been lost and I can't get the wireless connection back. The blue light for the wifi flashes blue. I can't get the connection back between the router and the printer because my wifi is actually working fine with my laptop. Any suggestions about what i can do to get the connection back so I can print again?
Is it something I need to do on the printer screen or laptop to fix the problem?

Have you powered off everything and power up again? Power off printer and router. Power on router and wait 2 mins. Power up printer and see if it connects to your SSID.

PDF file compatibility between LiveCycle ES and Adobe Document Server V6.0

We currently are using Adobe PDF Generator V7.0 and Adobe Document Server V6.0. We generate PDF files (using PDF generator V7.0) from office documents and then add a coversheet, to the generated PDF, and fill some form data using the Adobe Document Server. Now we are upgrading to Office 2007 and for this we will need Adobe LiveCycle ES PDF Generator for PDF conversions. If we move to LiveCycle ES can we still use Adobe Document Server for merging PDF's, and filling form Data? i.e Is the PDF file generated by LiveCycle ES compatible with Adobe Document Server?? Will there be any problems with this combination?
We could as well use LiveCycle ES Document Output for merging PDF files and fill form data with LiveCycle ES Forms. We do'nt want to do this as this would mean we need to by additional licenses of the product. The functionality that could be carried out by Adobe Document Server alone requires two seperate LiveCycle ES products to be purchased.

Doc Server was replaced by Assembler so you would migrate to that and not Output. The Assembler is part of the foundation so I am not sure how it is priced when buying PDF/G. You need to speak to your sales rep about this.

Time Zone/Daylight Savings Conflict between Windows 7 and Illustrator CS6

When Daylight Savings did its change this spring I started having problems saving files in Illustrator. I will go to save files, mainly .eps format, and it crashes Illustrator. I have changed my time zone to a zone that has not switched yet due to Daylight savings, and it works. Unfortunately as I find a new time zone, it also ends up hitting Daylight Savings, and I am back to square one. I have been searching both the Adobe site and the Windows site to find an answer to my problem, but am having no luck.
My proper time zone is
(UTC-07:00) Mountain Time (US & Canada)
I have even tried using Saskatchewan as they do not follow Daylight Savings, but it also creates crashes. I have tried many other time zones, the two that have worked so far are
(UTC-06:00) Guadalajara, Mexico City, Monterrey (worked for a little while but a time change a few weeks later messed it up)
(UTC) Casablanca (working on this time zone now, but an alert on my computer says time change coming up on the 28th)
Does anyone know if there is a fix to this problem? I feel like I am running out of time, as I am not sure how many more time zones will work.

I have finally found the solution!!! My account is set up as an Administrator, yet for some reason Illustrator was not opening with Adminsitrator permissions. I have to go into my startup menu, right click on Illustrator, and open as an administrator. Suddenly, everything works faster, smoother, and properly! I don't understand the reason behind this, but at least it is working proper now.

Audiobook 'lost' between iTunes account and iPad...

I have just synced my ipad and two audiobooks that are in my itunes account are not transferring to my ipad. I have clicked on selected audiobooks and clicked the boxes for both of the books but they seem to have disappeared. I have checked ibooks, audible and my music folders but they arent there either.

Where on your account are you seeing that they are on your iPad - I'm not aware of any account setting that shows that.
How did you try and sync them ? You should be able to do it by connecting the iPad to your computer and selecting it on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (if you don't have the sidebar showing then option- command-S should get it to show) :
and then on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen using the Books tab to select the audiobooks that you want to sync :
And then click the Apply button at the bottom right of the screen. Is that how you trying to sync them ?

Toon Boom Quicktimes in FCP... Interlacing Issues

Hi,
I've been rendering out Quicktimes out of Toon Boom Studio 4.5 and bringing them into Final Cut Pro for editing.
I'm getting really bad interlacing issues when playing back on moving objects, particularly on the 1080i plasma I'm using for monitoring. However when paused the image looks sharp.
The animation is a 1920 x 1080 project in Toon boom, and I'm bringing it into a 1920 x 1080 60i ProRes Sequence. I've tried exporting from Toon Boom to ProRes HQ and Animation quicktimes (both interlaced and progressive), as well as exporting image sequences and bringing them into after effects to export to ProRes. All with the same results.
Interestingly the quicktimes play in a preview-like quality when played in the viewer in FCP. However when I drop them into a ProRes (non-HQ) timeline and render, they look as they should but with bad interlacing issues on moving objects. Dropping the ProRes HQ quicktimes into a ProRes HQ sequence play in a preview-like mode too.
Anyone had any experience working with animation files from Toon Boom? I've had similar issues with QTs from Anime Studio Pro but they weren't really noticeable once rendered in the timeline.

Hi X, sorry for the delay.
If I drop a 30fps ProRes HQ quicktime into a 1030p ProRes HQ sequence, I get the preview-like quality I wrote about earlier.
However if I change the sequence compressor to regular ProRes and render, it displays sharp as it should but still has the bad interlacing. The plasma I'm monitoring with can't display 108030p though so I'm judging this from an apple cinema display.
Exporting from this timeline to 108060i ProRes has the same problem.
Do you think it's possible the characters in the cartoon move too great a distance between frames that it's causing this issue?

PDF and Illustrator CC opacity mask. The opacity mask displays perfectly in the print preview, and in the pdf document when viewed on my computer, but when printed the gradient opacity mask doesn't work. Any suggestions? Have not had this problem in ot

Never had this issues in previous versions. This IS a black/white gradient opacity mask over a black and white photo, but still don't think that is the problem.

Difference between photoshop and illustrator effects?

Under the effects menu in cs5, what is the difference between photoshop and illustrator effects? when do you use the photoshop ones?

The Photoshop effects are copies of similar effects from Photoshop. As such, they can only be applied to raster art, such as that edited in Photoshop. When you apply a Photoshop effect the Illustrator art you apply it to is rasterized in the background and the effect is applied to the rasterized version of the art. If you expand the appearance of anything with a Photoshop effect on it it will be rasterized. The other effects retain all or part of the vector art. When you expand the effect or save a PDF at least some of the original vector art will remain as vectors, although some effects (Drop Shadow, Blur, Feather, Inner Glow, etc.) to add rasterized art to the file.
The rasterization is non-damaging, in that the original vector, type, or other objets remain fully editable. If you remove the effect the rasterization goes away. There is no dialogue for rasterization resolution in the effect; you set that in Effect > Document Raster Effect Settings.

Illustrator or Flash or Toon boom or.......

Hi everybody!
I am a newbie in digital illustration and animation. I believe my question has been asked million times before, but I ask it because I don know what to do anymore.
Could someone advice me on what software would be the best for making some illustrations (that could be used for children books and similar) and also for using this illustrations step further to make some simple cut out or frame to frame animations/cartoons.
Another thing- can Toon boom (studio or animate or some other version) be used for illustration, maybe instead of Adobe illustrator? Is it posssible that Adobe Flash, Illustrator and After Effects at some basic level do the same thing as Toon Boom ? Are the differences felt mostly bey professionals who do some hi-polished animations or illustrations?
For the last 7 days I have been reading numerous articles and reviews but I am still confused and beginning to be half crazy.

I'm late to the discussion - but maybe this will be useful to others looking for software to produce animation. I believe any good program which allows you a lot of creative ability is going to have a steep learning curve. The comments below are based on my experience; yours may be different.
I couldn't agree more about Toon Boom. I downloaded the trial, went to the tutorials, and was astonished at the amount of time required by these videos to get any idea how the program worked. Be prepared to invest a couple of days. Also, the tutorials are for the more expensive versions of the program, and so if you're interested in Toon Boom Studio you might might find them somewhat confusing, as not all the options they talk about are available on the cheaper version. Looking at the on-line documentation is MUCH more helpful than the tutorials they offer. It walks you through so you can actually get a taste for the program. Toon Boom will also import Illustrator files which look like the originals (unlike the next program I talk about).
I've used Anime Studio Pro (by Smith Micro) for several months and found the interface unintuitive and, at times, very frustrating. It can produce a great final product, and if you can get past the drawing interface, which, to me, is very quirky (I'm used to Adobe Illustrator), it's a nice program. The manual is helpful, but not great - which means you're stuck with surfing the web for tutorials and the forums (not necessarily a bad thing - just be aware). It's built in physics capability is really nice - clothes, hair, and other things can be made to react to a character's movement automatically, but it takes a lot of experimentation to get it to to work correctly. If you want to import files, it will, but only rasterized and limited vector (You have to save down to Illustrator 8 to import from Illustrator, and the vectors don't look as clean as the original). It's better to build vector art in the program, but, again, this can be frustrating until you learn the oddities of the program. The bone system allows you to connect bones to individual or a group vector points, or can be made to manipulate raster images. Many people produce great stuff with this program and love it, but I found it too frustrating and starting looking for something else.
After seeing some of Daniel Gies's work produced in After Effects I decided to try it out. Right away I was happier because I could import Illustrator and Photoshop files (programs I've used for a long time) directly into AE and they looked exactly like the originals (as well as layers retaining their names and locations). The vector files are rasterized, but if you rescale them the program automatically updates the images to adjust to their new size. There is also a way to paste a vector path directly into the program. Although AE is not a true animation program, it does give you a lot of control. After a month I can see I still have a lot to learn, as the many special effects options in AE can be used to good use in animated projects. I feel as if I have more control over what I am producing, and correcting mistakes seems easier in AE than Anime Studio Pro. I do miss the auto-phyiscs, as well as some of the other features, so in the end it's all about personal taste and what you're comfortable with, and more importantly, your style of animation.
As a final note: I might have been more enthusiastic about Toon Boom if my budget wasn't limited. Toon Boon comes in three flavors ($249, $699, $1,199), where as I already owned AE (CS 5.5) - so your budget, of course, is another factor in choosing. Anime Studio has two flavors; $50 and $300.

After update, Photoshop CC 2014 crashes just after launching - a whole day lost between forums and support

Here in France, it's getting late, 9.45 PM, that is 12 hours after the first crash of Photoshop CC 2014 on my Mac OS 10.9.4.
Nothing changed on my computer, excepted the PhCC14 update.
Then I launched the app and it crashed right after displaying the workframe.
I tried and tried so many things :
Ashutosh.Nigam suggested me in this forum to change the permissions to SLStore & SLCache Folder, but it did not work.
Ali from french Adobe support told me to delete my Settings files, but it was not enough.
A girl with no name from the same team told me to update my graphics card driver, but, you know, I run the latest Mac OS X version and everything is updated, mademoiselle.
Stephane sent me a link to a huge page of things to do :
- Troubleshoot account-specific fonts, but there wasn't any corrupted font
- Delete account-specific Adobe cache files but... guess what...
- Troubleshoot account-specific login items but... yes, that's it, I can see you understand me
- Reset the access settings on the user account's Library folder... oh god, that was fun, I used the Terminal and sudo commands
- I checked the disk and repaired all permissions...
I did all of these things because when I tried to open PhCC in an other admin session, it worked. So it could be an incompatibility between my session and PhCC. But, but, but, when I tried again to lauch the app in the second session, it worked fine but refused to quit. Ha ha ha.
Last call to the french support : "Désolé Monsieur, you didn't spend 2000 € for a specific help, but because you have lost a whole day of work, we will pay you back 2€. And no, Photoshop won't work anymore on your session. You have to move all your files to a new session."
It's unfair ! The software was running gently on my session, Adobe change things and I have to break everything on my computer, move every config from one session to another with absolutely no warranty that it won't crash again.
It's NOT what I pay Adobe CC each month for.

I can print with Lightroom, there is nothing wrong with the printer, or the file. But I want to print with Photoshop without a crash. Besides, Lightroom doesn't give me access to all of my print settings.

Unfortunately no, It says "Adobe not responding" as well when I try to open a pdf. It has done this a few times where I had to uninstall and reinstall. Also, Illustrator tells me to uninstall/reinstall as well.

The Acrobat 9.x product family passed into "End of Support" mid-year of 2013.
Acrobat 9 support of MS Project via PDFMaker stops with Office 2007.
For Office 2013 support you must use Acrobat XI (11.0.1) or newer.

Add a simple switch to PDF Reader to change between MY-VIEW and ORIGINAL-VIEW

I would like to open pdf file with my same default viewing preference *every single time* that I open a PDF file, regardless of what the original document creator set as the default view. It would be nice to have a SIMPLE switch between MY-VIEW and ORIGINAL-VIEW. It's very frustrating to have to keep switching my view preferences every time I open a new file with a different default.

Thank you Bernd, but that is only part of the solution. For example, I do set the Page Layout to 1-page-continuous. MOST of the time it keeps this setting, but some documents either override that setting, or perhaps it reverts back to a default (maybe with version upgrades?). The other part is that I always want the menu-bar and toolbar to show up. Some documents hide these when they open. I realize that I can hit [F8] and/or [F9] to toggle these, but there are additional settings. I also want to always have the selection tools available, etc. Bottom Line: I just want a collection of settings that I can call up with a single, simple shortcut or button, so I don't have to perform multiple steps just to get the tool back to my standard configuration whenever something changes it.

Sounds like it isn't to serious. the Bluetooth connection had an error and that is that generated
the Problem report.
When the Blackberry started to use Bluetooth the "gold standard" was using Microsoft's
"native" windows drivers. Now, every major PC company has there own version

There is rather involved and lengthy procedure to check and install the correct Bluetooth drivers
in the Dell, but I really don't think you want to take that on.( Nod you head and say H*LL YES)
Here is what I propose;
The problem report needs to be resolved or it wont go away. Read the manual, call Dell,
try apologizing to it and that you'll never never do it again, what ever it takes!
Make the best investment you can make for your Blackberry, buy a media card.
All the memory in the BB is dynamic, this facilitates the functions of the phone.
By storing media in that memory, you effect are wasting X amount for file storage.
Store all media and files on the media card, and you will have a smooth running device.
They run about $25.00usd, they are easy to install, and they also make moving your
media a snap. You will need the USB adapter that came with it, but you can get that at
your local carrier store.
So if you agree with this I need some info.
On the Blackberry go to the options icon,click then scroll up to ABOUT.
I need your software version number, it's listed in this format: 4.x.x.xxx.
