Photoshop CC displays flat images

Hi. I've been reading these forums for an hour. They all say the same thing, more or less: Edit> Color Settings> North America Standard> SRGB or AdobeRGB (which I have chosen)> Preserve all the settings> Check all the boxes. North America Standard becomes custom when changing to Adobe RGB, but otherwise... everything is the same.
This does NOT solve the problem. Images that are beautiful on my camera, beautiful and sharp in previews and other programs, are flat in photoshop.
Can I add a camera profile to photoshop so that it doesn't flatten my images, causing me to OVER-EDIT?
What do I do to fix this?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
For reference, this is what I'm working with:
Image on the left is original, in preview program, looks same as back of camera. Image on right is photoshop, immediately after opening, no changes made.
to throw in one more curve ball, these are all the changes I have to make in Photoshop, so that my RAW image actually looks like it did when I shot it, as opposed to when i shot it as opposed to when I open it in PS CC:
Pleeeeeeaaaaase Help?

There is no such thing as an "original" raw file, it's always rendered by a raw processor, to a certain set of parameters, before you can see an image. What you see in Preview is the embedded Canon-rendered jpeg, not the "original" file. The same on the camera LCD.
With ACR you have the chance of processing yourself, instead of just accepting Canon's automatic idea of how the image should look. The ACR defaults are never meant as anything but a neutral starting point, preserving as much information as possible. It's up to you to make it look good.
There is no "problem" to fix. It's all working as it should and the rest is up to you.

  • Once rich images in Photoshop now appear flat.

    Photos I had previously edited in Photoshop now appear flat in Photoshop, Bridge, Illustrator, Preview, and in the Finder. These same files look good on websites, and also when I drag them into an email.
    The Color Settings in Photoshop match the files' color profiles (Adobe RGB).
    I had recalibrated the monitor using native gamma and native white point, but the colors don't return to their richness when I go back to the default calibration. Plus, the images still look good on websites and in emails, so I don't know if the screen calibration is the problem.
    I feel that I must have made some setting change, but I can't figure out what I need to change back.
    I use MAC OS 10.7.5, Creative Suite CS6.
    HELP!
    Thanks.

    It's not entirely clear what you did here. What do you mean by "going back to default calibration"?
    Calibration consists of two independent processes - calibration and profiling. Calibration is a modification of the monitor itself, to put it in a somewhat more "ideal" state than it was. Calibration does not have very high precision, and is not part of the color management chain.
    Color management enters with the second part, the monitor profile. The profile is built after the calibration is finished. It is a complete description of the monitor in its calibrated state. The standard color management chain kicks in at this point: Document profile (source) is converted to the monitor profile (destination).
    IOW, display color management relies on the calibration being already in place. So if you change the calibration, you also need to make a new profile to describe the new state of the display. If you just change the calibration, but use the same profile, color managed applications will send the wrong numbers to the display and all bets are off.

    I've just bought a Macbook Pro 15" and I'm trying to use Photoshop, but the resolution its displaying the images at for 100% are too small. I have to design for the web, so need to be intricate with detail, but I'm finding it adjusts the resolution of the image right down. (I mean you can see the image clearly, but it's too small to edit). When I look at Safari and see a web page at 100% it's clear, but the same page displayed in Photoshop CC appears 50% of the size (even though it says it's 100%)   If I move the application window to another screen it adjusts it correctly  – leaving all the pallettes, menus and tools correctly sized as they are on the retina display   Is there some way to adjust the way Photoshop CC displays images so it is more consistent with what you actually see?   There doesn't seem to be any answer on the Adobe forum, so hopefully someone here can shed some light.  MacBook Pro with Retina display, 15", OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), Photoshop CC 2014

    I tested both ways. With "open in low resolution" ckecked the size of the images is cool, but it is low-resolution including Photoshop appearance.
    If "open in low resolution" is unckecked the appearance is good but the very small size.
    See the image below. It has 650 x 732 px, 72 dpi. The font of the text "Neste aniversário ..." is with 18pt.

  • Photoshop CC displays images 25% smaller than other apps?

    Why is Photoshop CC displaying images 25% smaller than my other applications? If I open a 72 ppi square pixel aspect image in Photoshop, I have to zoom to 125% for it to be the same size on screen as in my browser or any other image viewer. Photoshop reads the correct pixel sizes, but displays it smaller.
    I design and build websites and have been using Photoshop for over 15 years and haven't noticed this until CC. If I save the images and build out the site, or even just drag the image into a browser and then overlay that browser window above the Photoshop window to see both images side by side, I can clearly see a 25% difference in size.
    If I zoom in Photoshop to 125%, then the sizes match. So, the problem is when designing a website, everything looks smaller in photoshop. Then when I build it out, everything is way too big.
    My browsers are definitely at 100% zoom and I can open the image in any other image viewer at 100% and the affect is the same.
    Is there a setting that can be adjusted in Photoshop to correct this?

    I also have the same issue. I can reporoduce exactly what Roger2012Jr mentions above.
    I have Photoshop CC, Windows 8.1, screen resolution 1920 x 1080. Files look really sharp in Photoshop, but when the file is exported (for web or not) the image is blurry and about 125% the size it was in Photoshop. Also, when I bring an image from the web, tried with a random image it still looks perfectly sharp in Photoshop, just about 80% actual size. That same image exported still looks perfect in the browser, same as it was originally.
    So starting from scratch with an image, there's no way to guarantee the quality when exported and quality looks really blurry. I can't use the program with any sense of confidence.
    Can someone from Adobe shed any light on this?

  • Getting Acrobat to display raster images in pdf's "As Is"

    I hate the way acrobat resamples raster images on a monitor when it's not displaying it at its exact size. It looks like crap, not surprisingly, since it doesn't do resampling using opengl like photoshop does.
    Let's say I create an image for viewing purposes only (I just want a client to open a pdf and be able to view my work as is), I save it as a 900x700 pixel image at 72dpi, but when I open the pdf it will always upscale it even when I edit the document properties and select "actual size" on initial display. I don't want any resizing, as the only way to display the image in pristine condition is if it's showing at its native resolution (ie 900x700 pixels).
    Is there any way to control how a pdf will display an image on a client's machine? Or should I rather just build an offline web page and skip the pdf entirely?

    The format in which a bitmap image is stored has no bearing whatsoever on the size it appears on screen.
    Phillip Jones wrote:
    That may not be so helpful either. Because depending upon Monitor size anything on a web page is Contracted or expanded as well. Example what on say a 27" screen is going to look much different than on a 17"  If its saved as a Jpeg image you will always have this.
    If save as a PNG it will Remain the same shape and detail just get larger or smaller

  • Can an Acrobat form have a field that allows you to select and display an image?

    Hello,
      I'm trying to streamline my most frequent job duty. I work for a box plant and I spend most of my day creating or updating Print Cards. These are letter sized pages that contain the job information along the top and an image of the package laid flat below. What I'm trying to do is make the Print Card a form that I can fill in, and have the final field ask me to select the image. I would then browse for my package design and drop it into the specified field.
      Is this possible? It seems like it should be. I'm fairly illustrator savvy, but I've yet to really get my hands on Acrobat (though I get more excited about it the more research I do).
      Eventually, I want to turn this single form into a full portfolio that would be linked pdf versions of every form we currently use. The info would then be uploaded and assessable by anyone on our team. I don't know how to do half of that, but I'm learning.   So I guess, expect to see me post on this for a while.

    Yes, you can set up a button that has a layout other than "Label only" and  use the following as the Mouse Up JavaScript for the button:
    // Mouse Up script for button
    event.target.buttonImportIcon();
    You will then be prompted to select a file as the source of the button icon. You can choose form a number of file types. You should then set the button to read-only before sending the PDF.
    To trigger the import from a different button, bookmark, link, etc., the script would be:
    getField("image_button").buttonImportIcon();
    Replace "image_button" with the actual name of the button that will display the image.

  • Specific need: to generate a cylindrical projection NOT from a sphere, but from a flat image

    Specific need: to generate a cylindrical projection NOT from a sphere, but from a flat image, like a person's face, etc., such that the cylindrical projection can be used to wrap a sphere (via other software such as the DX I use), where the face could be positioned arbitrarily at the equator (where a cylindrical projection image created FROM a sphere appears most normal), a pole (where a cylindrical projection image created FROM a sphere appears most stretched out), or anywhere else on the resultant sphere's surface. This would allow creation of a, say, a cylindrical projection of a sphere that represents a numbered billiard ball from a flat representation of the number design. Is there an Adobe or Photoshop product that will provide this? Thanks for any help!

    Thanks, Noel. Here's the crux: the image sphincters at the poles, natch. I've been looking for an algorithm or feature in a graphics app that would assume that the flat image of joetalker's entry would be spread proportionately at the poles so that the size of print would be uniform (or the shape of face photo, etc).
    Using such a feature would dictate that type, lets say, would be distributed on the flat image something like this in order not to lose too much at the edges (where the sphere mesh meets at 0-longitude), and sphincters as latitude approaches the poles:
    ++++++++Hello+++++++++
    +++++How are you &+++++
    ++What can I do for you+++
    +++++How are you &+++++
    ++++++++Hello+++++++++
    Yes, over-simplified. Here with a photo, where the original photo is "X" signs, and the empty space is "+" signs, along with the desired created cylindrical projection ready for a sphere mesh:
    Example 1 at equator:
    original:
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++
    ++++++++++XXXXX++++++++++
    +++++++++XXXXX++++++++++
    +++++++++++XXXX+++++++++
    ++++++++++XXX++++++++++
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++
    created cylindrcal projection:
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++
    ++++++++XXXXXXXXX++++++++
    +++++++++XXXXX++++++++++
    +++++++++XXXXXXXX+++++++
    +++++++XXXXXXXXX+++++++
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++
    +++++++++++++++++++++++
    -very similar, with a widening at top and bottom of "photo", right?
    Example 2 at poles:
    original:
    +++++++++++XXXX+++++++++    (bottom of photo)
    ++++++++++XXX++++++++++
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++
    ++++++++++XXXXX++++++++++   (top of photo)
    +++++++++XXXXX++++++++++
    created cylindrcal projection:
    +++XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX+++
    ++++++XXXXXXXXXXXXX++++++
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++
    +++++XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX++++++
    ++XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX+++
    -now with an even more widening toward the poles to compensate for the pole sphinctering.
    If starting with a true globe already spatially correct, creating a cylindrical projection is commonplace. I'm attempting to find an app that will create a cylindrical projection-like graphic ready for a sphere mesh from a flat photo or graphic. The above example would place the photo in correct proportion over the pole of the sphere, discarding information at the ever decreasing edges as the image projects to the poles.
    Hope this is clear, and thanks again!

  • How to add a 3D image / layer to a flat image

    I'm new to 3D and have been given an assignment to add a 3D object to the flat image of a building facade. The building is a three story medical centre and the 3D object needs to demonstrate what a new elevator with advertising on three sides would potentially look like.
    Any suggestions or help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
    I was trying to do this with CS4 extended, but have downloaded the CS6 Extended Trial version, if this can be done in CS6 then I can motivate to purchase the upgrade.
    Thanks
    Robin

    The elevator is nothing more than a box. So your job is quite easy in that you have the choice of using a true 3d object or fake it by skewing the 2d objects until it looks like it is a 3d box.
    Either way applying textures to a 3d object or clipping an image to the 2d object will result in the same illusion.
    Its up to you to decide on how much detail is needed and what will you need to learn to get that result. If you go the extra step and go the 3d route, you will find that the end result is much quicker minus the learning curve because it is much easier to align object to make it look correct.
    CS6's 3d tools now include extrusion so the handle for the elevator is easier to create since it starts with a 2d ellipse.
    Where you will have trouble is the mounts for the handle. Because photoshop does not have a way to manipulate the mesh to form it's shape.
    This can be done using a 3rd party app. There are some free ones available on the net. The most popular for free at the moment is Blender. It will do anything you need for your project. Including esporting it as an obj file which can then be imported into photoshop.
    If all you need is a box with the ads on the inside then photoshop CS6 can do it. Just slice the front so it does not show then replace the textures for each side. Done.

  • Photoshop, Why letter for Image become blurry ?

    Hi, does anyone can help. I have made slider image for my site with adobe photoshop. I set the DPI 200 when saving to JPG, beacuse for site I thing doesn't need very big image, but whe i upload to my site its become little bit blurry. I have tried to set higher DPI but the result still blurry, espesialy in the letter. see the result here www.fandelafx.co.( every letter in the image slider )
    Is that something wrong when I process the image in the photoshop ? please advice..

    For the Web DPI is meaningless all that matters are the number of Pixels and how good they are.  Displays drivers do not use an images DPI setting for anything. They just display pixels on the display connected to the computer. Displays have a single pixel size their resolution is fixed.  So you web image will look different on various displays.  The size and resolution will differ between devices.   Create you images for displays to fit within some pixel area.  If you create Large print images with fine details they will degrade and loose details when re-sized to fit on displays.  Create image for the web that will look good with the limited number of pixels most display have. Do not create  image that will only fit on full 5k displays  create images  that  will look good on devices with limited pixels like 800x600

  • 70-300 4-5.6 has soft flat images

    I have a 70-300 is USM 4-5.6 lens.  The lens take horribly soft, blown out and flat images... any known issues?

    Is this your issue? Below is a review of the 70-300 f4-5.6 IS by the Digital-Picture.
    "The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens has good center sharpness wide open at the wide end. Center sharpness decreases slightly as the focal length is increased to its weakest at 300mm. The lens becomes soft beyond 200mm. Stopping down improves sharpness somewhat but it is still weakest at 300mm.
    Corners are soft at the ends of the focal length range and sharpen up noticeably as the aperture is stopped down. The long end of the focal length range continues to be the weakest performing over the range - especially in the vertical orientation. I don't make it a habit to formally test lenses in both vertical and horizontal orientations, but after hearing some reports of an anomaly I did some testing. Shots taken at the longer focal lengths are indeed sharper in horizontal orientation than in vertical orientation."
    I don't have one so I can not comment further as to how sharp or soft they are but it seems by this reviewer that the lens does have some problems.

  • In Photoshop Express, cannot sort images in album by filename in thumbnail view (for slideshow)l.

    In Photoshop Express, I want images to appear sorted by filename.  In the "view as a table" it sorts fine.  When I revert to the thumbnail view, the arrangement is random.  The dropdown "show" list does not offer an option for showing by filename.  If I select the"custom" option, it means I would need to sort 300 images by filename MANUALLY (!!!), a job that a computer does in milliseconds.  Anyone with a solution?  Thanks.

    fwiw, with my images in the 'Folder Location' view the photos are in order by their Windows filename. That is the same order as the hardcopy album the photos came from. So I then created a PSE Album. I selected all my photos and moved them into that album. The order of the pictures was retained in the Album. That worked out great. I wanted my PSE images to be in the same order. I thought I would do it with tags. But creating an album seems to work just fine.

  • Aperture 3 project does not display any images in one Project

    This is a strange situation.  The bullets below outline the situation:
    The project does not display any images
    When I place the pointer over the project it shows there are 500+ images
    I have located the RAW images stored in my aperture library
    I can pull up the images using a smart folder and searching for photos taken on the event day
    This is happening only to one of my projects that I know of (weird!!)
    I have tried to 're-add' the image by both importing and dragging and dropping into the project, neither works
    I tried the following basics:
    Fixed permissions
    Rebuilt the database
    Tried to re-import the data, but when I have the 'don't import duplicates' these are not an option
    Found the images in my Aperture library
    I created another project and drug all of the images into that project
    Any idea how I can fix this?
    My fear is that if I delete the original project, the original master images will be deleted.

    The most common cause of this is some sort of stuff in the search box at the top of the browser that you don't expect to be there. Just clear it and all your images should show up.
    RB
    One note - if you drug your images from one project to another it moves them vs copies them unless you hold down the option key.

  • Problem with displaying BLOB images on JSP page using a servlet

    hi. I have a big problem with displaying BLOB images using JSP. I have a servlet that connects to the oracle database, gets a BLOB image , reads it, and then displays it using a BinaryStream. The problem is , this works only when i directly call that servlet, that is http://localhost:8080/ImageServlet. It doesn't work when i try to use that servlet to display my image on my JSP page (my JSP page displays only a broken-image icon ) I tried several coding approaches with my servlet (used both Blob and BLOB objects), and they work just fine as long as i display images explicitly using only the servlet.
    Here's what i use : ORACLE 10g XE , Eclipse 3.1.2, Tomcat 5.5.16 , JDK 1.5
    here is one of my image servlet's working versions (the essential part of it) :
                   BLOB blob=null;
              rset=st.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM IMAGES WHERE ID=1");
              while (rset.next())
                   blob=((OracleResultSet)rset).getBLOB(2);
              response.reset();
              response.setContentType("image/jpeg");
              response.addHeader("Content-Disposition","filename=42.jpeg");
                    ServletOutputStream ostr=response.getOutputStream();
                   InputStream istr=blob.getBinaryStream(1L);
                    int size=blob.getBufferSize();
              int len=-1;
                    byte[] buff = new byte[size];
                         while ((len=istr.read( buff ))!=-1 ) {
                   ostr.write(buff,0,len);
             response.flushBuffer();
             ostr.close(); and my JSP page code :
    <img src="/ImageServlet" border="0"  > If you could just tell me what i'm doing wrong here , or if you could show me your own solutions to that problem , i would be very greatful ,cos i'm realy stuck here , and i'm rather pressed for time too. Hope someone can help.

    I turns out that it wasn't that big of a problem after all. All i had to do was to take the above code and place it into another JSP page instead of into a servlet like i did before. Then i just used that page as a source for my IMG tag in my first JSP. It works perfectly well. Why this doesn't work for servlets i still don't know, but it's not a problem form me anymore . Ofcourse if someone knows the answer , go ahead and write. I would still appriceatte it.
    here's the magic tag : <img src="ImageJSP.jsp" border="0"  > enjoy : )

    I'm trying to display an image on JFrame in this way:

    Thanks for your code, I've been tryed to apply your solution (with create a Buffered Image), but it still not working correctly. Firstly, the image isn't loading, and secondly the basic problem is not give in. Why have you been using "bg2d.draw(img, x, y, w, h, frame);" not in the paint method?

  • Display BLOB (image) column in (interactive) report

    Hi,
    I have a field called "picture" in my table "details" which is of type BLOB. i also have a field for "MIMETYPE" and "filename"
    i additionally have a "name" and "description" columns which i need to display along with the picture as columns in a report (preferably interactive).
    i have also modified the BLOB display format as per
    http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/db/apex/r31/apex31nf/apex31blob.htm
    what i am missing is the correct query. if possible, i would like to control the size of the picture rendered within the report like say 40*50.
    I have also referred to the thread
    APEX 3.1 Display BLOB Image
    But i don't know how to place the
    dbms_lob.getlength("BLOB_CONTENT") as "BLOB_CONTENT"
    in my query.
    The above also makes the report column as of type "number". is this expected?
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    You haven't actually said what the problem is?
    >
    I have a field called "picture" in my table "details" which is of type BLOB. i also have a field for "MIMETYPE" and "filename"
    i additionally have a "name" and "description" columns which i need to display along with the picture as columns in a report (preferably interactive).
    i have also modified the BLOB display format as per
    http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/db/apex/r31/apex31nf/apex31blob.htm
    what i am missing is the correct query.
    I have also referred to the thread
    APEX 3.1 Display BLOB Image
    But i don't know how to place the
    dbms_lob.getlength("BLOB_CONTENT") as "BLOB_CONTENT"
    >
    Something like:
    select
              name
            , description
            , dbms_lob.getlength(picture) picture
    from
              details
    if possible, i would like to control the size of the picture rendered within the report like say 40*50.For images close to this size it's easy to do this for declarative BLOB images in interactive reports using CSS. Add a style sheet with:
    .apexir_WORKSHEET_DATA td[headers="PICTURE"] img {
      display: block;
      width: 40px;
      border: 1px solid #999;
      padding: 4px;
      background: #f6f6f6;
    }where the <tt>PICTURE</tt> value in the attribute selector is the table header ID of the image column. Setting only one dimension (in this case the width) scales the image with the correct aspect ratio. (The border, padding and background properties are just eye candy...)
    However, scaling large images in the browser this way is a huge waste of bandwidth and produces poorer quality images than creating proper scaled down versions using image tools. For improved performance and image quality, and where you require image-specific scaling you can use the database ORDImage object to produce thumbnail and preview versions automatically, as described in this blog post.
