Photosmart C8180 power problem

My C8180 clicks and turns on and off continually. I have tried disconnecting the power cord and then reconnecting, have reloaded drivers, but each time I plug it in it clicks and turns on and off, on and off.

Hi flowerguy,
I understand that you are having issues with the printer turning on and off. I will try my best to help you resolve this issue. Follow the steps in this document for The Product Fails to Turn Off and the 'Shutting Down' Message Displays on the Control Panel for resetting the printer and making sure it is plugged directly into a wall outlet.
Although it is not stating a paper jam, please follow the steps in this document for 'Paper Jam' Message Displays on the Control Panel Display  to make sure there is no debris or paper blocking the carriage from moving. If the carriage is blocked and trying to move it may be overheating causing it to turn on and off.
I hope this information helps, please let me know.
Thank you,

  • Photosmart C8180 power off flashing lights

My Photosmart C8180 starts flashing all its front panel lights even though it's powered off and computer is off. The C8180 shows a different error message each time this happens, eg, B0379A21 and C4EB0FB2. Computer is an iMac running OS 10.6.8. Problem occurs whether networked via USB or Ethernet. When not exhibiting this problem its operation seems normal; color printing is excellent. The only solution to stopping the problem I have found is to unplug the printer's power cord.

    Hello Tom7,
Thanks for the update!  Let's not give up on it yet, check the below link as well, remove and reseat the cartridges, clean if necessary.  When you do reset the printer, make sure you are going direct to a wall outlet, not a power strip or power block.  Good Luck!

Solution one: Reset the printerThe error message might disappear after you turn off the printer and then turn it on again. After you make any adjustments to the cartridges or the printhead, reset the printer in order for the error message to clear completely. Follow these steps to reset the printer.
Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
With the product turned on , disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button ( ) to turn it on.
If the error message disappears, the issue is resolved and you do not need to troubleshoot further.
If the error message persists, continue to the next solution.

  • Photosmart C8180 Power On/Off Itself

The printer started turning itself on when everything was off, and putting on quite a light show. I unplugged it at both ends several times, waited several minutes and then it went through many gyrations of on/off, an error message BA07AF30 or similar sometimes appeared.  I finally got it to going after removing/resinstalling all the print cartridges; then, in the middle of a printing a page the power turned off/on.  What should I try to get it working normally again?

Throw it in the river and purchase a different brand.  I have the same problem with 3 of them.  I spent an hour on the phone and paid for nothing.  The tech people just down a check list and did the same thing I did before calling tech support.  I purchased 4 of them about 15 months ago and within the last three weeks 3 of them will not shut off, they just turn on and off and on and off and never stop..............great product until warranty ran out.........Canon here I come...

  • Printing problem with Mac OS 10.5.6 and HP Photosmart C8180

I'm new to Macs and have just bought an iMac and an HP photosmart C8180 printer. The problem I'm having is trying to get the wireless printing option working on the Mac. I've tested that the wireless connection is working on the printer by installing the software on my old Dell Laptop and it works fine between the PC and printer. It's also working with the USB lead between the Mac and the printer but it's just the wireless connection that seems to be the problem.

You select the options in the Print dialog of the application you are using. Just be sure you have the extended dialog showing (big down arrow next to the Printer drop down menu.) There are various options presented, some of which are in additional drop down menus.

My Photosmart printer began giving me error codes...ink system failure, B83024C6, and many others....flashing and blinking lights constantly.  We tried all the resets, called HP and they said they did not have a fix for this so we were not going to pay the tech fee for nothing.  I unplugged the printer and now it says...connect and install software.
PLEASE HELP!  This is the most frustrating printer and everyone seems to have the same complaint.  This was an expensive printer and Hp should come up with a solution.
I would appreciate any help you could give me....
We connect with aUSB cable.  We also have a wireless N system but the printer is not used on that system.
Profeciency level of me is average
My husband and I have read the forum for some time regarding problems with the C8180 and many have given up hope of fixing the flashing led light problem.  Our C8180 now has other problems and we are so frustrated that we are making one last attempt to get this working.  We purchased this high end printer in 2009 and for a year it worked just fine...then the problems started.
We have made no changes to the printer or the computer.  All software upgrades to the printer came from H.P.
    HELP....
    Claire

Well, as I expected.  Jumped through all the hoops to ask the right questions on EXPERT DAY, and none of your 300 EXPERTS  found it possible to answer the C8180 printer questions.  Why, because this piece of junk cannot be fixed!
    Thanks for nothing.

  • Photosmart C8180 stopped working and refuses any re-installation attempts on XP Desktop

Hello, I am new to the forum and am in need of some installation help.
I had graphics card failure (twice), and the last time the computer got turned on it was without the printers USB being plugged into it and this seems to be when the printers Software Solution Center stopped working.  I could print in a mundane mannor but needed the solution center for my high end digital printing jobs.
So, I uninstalled and tried to re-install the software. Each attempt has given me a failed installation. I have been at this for days.  I got a fatal error but didn't see an actual code for it.  I allowed it to scan for problems and it told me "A solution has been found for this particular problem" but following each of those steps did not solve anything. The downloaded software from the site gave me the same results.
What happens is the software installation goes to approx 97% (although the last attempt said 100% and still failed) and then it hangs and says it took too long to respond. This part I failed to pay proper attention to, I believe. Sorry for the lack of better info here, but the software kept telling me "No HP devices have been detected" on each failed re-install attempt ... which have been at least 10!  I believe this is because the software didn't finish the install.
I ran disk cleanup between each retry as well - however I know for a fact all things were not removed from registry and found several folders in the Temp folder after as well. I didn't know what was safe to remove and what wasn't so left them alone.
I did get a screenshot of the Error Situation Code from the error log it prepared to send to HP and which is what prompted the  "A solution has been found for this particular problem" message and download of an app called HP Installation Error - XP.hta. Again, attempts to do these steps also failed.
I am at my wits end and hope to be able to solve this issue. I need my printer soon (I am making wedding invites "soon").
    Here is my screenshot.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

First:  I am a bit disappointed that it has taken over a month for a reply. I all but gave up.
I followed these instruction at the link provided. However, I couldn't follow through -
When I clicked on the HP Update link provided, I choose XP, selected Next, clicked the plus sign next to Update (It only showed Update(6)) I do NOT get an option anywhere for "HP Update Software Utility".
    All I get are these:
    1. Critical Update: Cannot find scanned image or document files after scanning completes.
    2. Solution Center Update
    3. HP Print Driver Update
    4. Critical Update to Enhance Reliability of Network and USB Connectivity and Improve System Responsiveness While Printing
    5. Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue
    6. Critical Update for HP Photosmart Essential
I do not understand what is even going on with this software! I have installed/uninstalled many times. The last time I got as shown in images in above messages. The software hung at the 96% mark on the final configuration. I went through all the steps shown in previous messages to troubleshoot. Followed all options given. Nothing worked.
This time I did not uninstall the software. It is listed in Program Files. It is listed in the Registry. The monitor icon is in the sys tray and is showing a green checkmark as seen here:
When I try to open Solution Center I get this message:
I can still use the printer (have not tried the scanner - its an Photosmart C8180 AIO) but cannot access advanced features.
I can access Photosmart Essentials. When it first opened it asked to check for updates. I thought I would just to see if the software was working. This is the message I got:
BUT, as you can see - I am online already! What is up with that?
While going through some of those steps provided in the link you gave me in the above message I went into Event Viewer to see what I could find. I cannot believe after all the years I have used the computer - I never knew about that!
Interesting information. I found many error messages and warnings (for a total of 21!) in there related to the HP install attempts. Many are repeats because of the sheer number of times I uninstalled/reinstalled. All contained either an error code of 1904 or 1905. Each showed an issue with either Flash (filed to register), smartwebprinting (ClipBook.dll not existing), etc. I am going to give screenshots of the ones that seem to be different (bare with me here):
OKAY ... That was all the messages. You can see on them which were fatal and which were warnings.
NOTE: About the one showing an error with the Flash. Flash is installed and it is the latest version. I do not recall if it was at that time (since this has been over 30 days ago), and as I said - I have not tried to reinstall again .... I cannot begin to tell you how discuted I am with HP 'anything' at the moment.
I hope I have not left anything out after all this time. I have tried to provide as much information as possible. I hope to hear back; soon.
    Thank you.

My Photosmart c8180 all-in-one shuts down-restarts itself repeatedly. Blue screen message B367A5E0. Have Window XP. Have not been able to locate a description of this error message.

    Hi there 57nomad,
To make sure this is not software related try downloading and running the print and scan doctor located here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03275041&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
It can fix a lot on its own and if not give a better idea of what is going on.

  • Photosmart C8180. How to reset ink cartridges?

I bought a HP Photosmart C8180 in the Netherlands using 363 ink cartridges. Moved to South Africa and here the ink cartridges are 177. How do I reset the printer to take the new cartridge?
    Thanks

Hi - You'll have to contact HP Support for assistance with resetting your printer for a different region.  This partricular reset should be covered under warranty.  Here is the contact information for South Africa.  They'll be able to reset the printer so it will accept the cartridges from South Africa.
    Hope that helps.

  • Photosmart C8180 Squeaky noises when Printing

I have a Photosmart C8180 all-in-one printer.  When I hit print and the wheels or mechanics of the printer start to move, I get horrible squeaky noises.  It's not from the paper tray or photo tray but somewhere else.  It happens a lot during the process of the printing before printing actually takes place and once it's done.  The noises are getting worse.  Any suggestions on how to get rid of this noise?  I am worried my printer will break down if not taken care of soon.  I print a lot of photos but these noises also happens when printing documents.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi - Assuming you're in the US, you can call 866-234-1377 for service related options.  As for parts for the printer, you can go here to find the parts that are avaialble for the C8180.  I don't have any idea which part(s) would need to be replaced.  If you're interested in going that route, you might start a new post with that question specifically and see if another user on the forum might have some experience with parts replacement on the C8180.
    Hope that helps.

  • HP Photosmart C7280 Power issue with flashing lights

I have seen many posts on the web regarding flashing lights and incorrect shut downs.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-printing-questions/Photosmart-C5180-Power-Up-Power-Down-Problem-L...
I have tried everything including the "*,#" with "1,2,3" to reset the printer and I have the power cord plugged into a direct outlet, not a power strip, and nothing works.  Even if I do get the printer reset and it works, shortly later the lights will start flashing again and I see a blue screen with a power button symbol and some varying code (00729C98) - it varies each time.  It flashes after a short time even if I power down correctly - all on its own if plugged in.  Is there a defect with faulty part on the control board?  If so who do I take it to to get it fixed?  The printer is less than 2 years old.

I recently had the same problem with an HP Photosmart C7280, the same model as yours. I eventually managed to get through to HP Technical Support, and they advised that the unit would have to be replaced. I think if you call through, you can get a refurbished model for a cheaper rate.
Before calling technical support, I tried all the steps that have been recommended in various posts, but nothing helped. To the best of my knowledge - and I really tried to get my printer working - the unit is dead.
(Although this is an old post, I came across it when trying to fix the same issue. So, hopefully this will help anyone else who stumbles upon this post. Some other codes my printer showed on the HP "blue screen of death" were B83FCB56, B0075110 and B02BAEC3.)

  • MacBook Pro Power Problems.

My MacBook Pro is exhibiting power problems. I am running Yosemite and it seems that the problem may have arisen since I dowloaded this upgrade. When the battery is charged it shows 99% charge and I can use it on battery power. As normal with use the charge gradually reduces, say to 30%. I then switch off using either the on/off button/apple logo, waiting for the dialogue box, " do you want to switch off etc". The next day, I switch on, but the computer will only boot up when the power lead is attached. When the computer comes on, usually as normal, the charge always shows 0%. When it is recharged the whole process repeats itself. Help please.

    Hi,
Thanks for responding. My MBP is late 2009 and the battery has never been replaced. When I look at battery condition, it registers as normal, as it does when I do the power checks you suggested. When I plug in the power cord it glows green and within a few seconds it is on amber, until fully charged. I've done the SMC reset. I  noticed this morning that after using it last night the battery capacity was 93% and an expected duration of about 5.5 hours was listed. After limited use this morning, restricted to email admin only, the charge level had dropped to 88%, but the predicted duration was only 2.75 hours. Currently the level is 73% and the duration is  3 hours, although I have accessed the web several times. Presumably there is some sort of algorithm that looks at current usage and predicts the duration. I will continue to monitor this to see what happens. In the meantime if you have any more thoughts!!!
    Regards
    Roger
