  • Pkgadd: ERROR: unable to determine current run-state

    Hello,
I'm working with Solaris 10 5.10 sparc. I have successfully created a package with no difficulties. The package only consists of a bash script that is meant to update system files to enable remote logging and configure a server to accept eventlogs from windows platforms.
After putting together my package, I then try to use
pkgadd -d $PWD on the directory that contains my package. (/export/kelleyt6/kelleyt6_pkg)
The only hint to this error I've managed to find with Google searches is from a SebastianN from years ago:
From ages ago I remember a small bug which prevents pkgadd from determining the current run level, when the server has been up for a long time. iirc, the easiest way to get around it, would be to reboot and run pkgadd again. This is meant to run on a server, so rebooting isn't a very good option. I'm not even sure if rebooting it will help as this tidbit is the ONLY response I've seen to this error. Has anyone else encountered this before? Does anyone know how I might be able to add my package without having to restart core-servers???? I can also restart the zone...but I know that this solution is not preferable either. :-( Any ideas??

    Thank you abrante,
after some searching, I've found that several files on this server have been removed. /usr/lib/acct/fwtmp is one of them. Also, /etc/rc[456].d are missing, but I don't think that is the problem. I also notice that rc2.d and rc3.d are disabled. I'm going to have to re-enable those if I can(after its safe to "break" the machine again).
I know we have other packages that have been installed on the system.....so I'm trying to determine why MY package even cares what the run state is. Currently i'm going to re-read through pkgmk and see if there isn't something I can do that makes my package oblivious to run-state....then I'll see if pkgtrans can help.

  • Error while using pkgadd comand in Solaris 5.6

    Hi all,
I am doing some R&D with Packaging in Solaris 5.6 for our project requirement.
First i created one simple package, installed the package, tested it and removed.
Then i am trying to create a package with the same files with extra depend file to test package dependencies, but it is giving the following error:
    ## Processing package information.
    pkgadd: ERROR: duplicate pathname </sparc/usr/srinivas/ggsrMathLib>
pkgadd: ERROR: unable to process pkgmap
Installation of <ggsrMatLb> failed (internal error).
No changes were made to the system.
Can any one lighten me what could be the reason.
    Thanks

    Hello Sreedhar,
I want to know how to create a package in Solaris OS. I also want to know that in Linux is there any specific tool to create rpm packages. What should I use to create a package in Linux.
    Please help me out !!

  • Fresh Installation Boot Errors

I'm new to trying to work with Solaris 10, and to a lot of Solaris in general, so while I'd normally be happy to do a lot of reading (and have tried searching for answers on google a good deal already), I'm having a problem after a fresh installation of Solaris 10 on a Sparc T3-1 server that I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction to solve.
During the install I told the text installer I wanted to do a ZFS installation using both of my disks (only 2) in a mirrored configuration. I selected the default set of core system packages.
After the install seemed to be done and the system rebooted, I'm getting the following when it comes up:
Boot device: /pci@400/pci@1/pci@0/pci@4/scsi@0/disk@w5000c5003a04f911,0:a File and args:

After doing a new install off of the install media (cd) I would have expected the system to be able to boot without errors, but obviously I've missed something or done something wrong, and I'm hoping that someone can point me in the right direction for figuring out what that is and fixing it.
I'm happy to provide any other details if there are questions.

If you're sure that you have a Broadcom BCM57xx
device installed in the machine, then you should have a look at
"prtconf -pv" output, locate the Ethernet device, and check the
    "vendor-id" / "device-id" property for the NIC.
If the Broadcom device is compatible with Sun's "bge" driver, you
can try to install an addition driver binding entry for your device,
    using the update_drv(1M) command
update_drv -a -i '"pciVVVV,DDDD"' bge(where VVVV and DDDD is the pci vendor / device id found in
    prtconf -pv output).

On Solaris 9, its state is either cpu0 or cpu1,
depending on the time I call 'top'. Does that mean
it is actually running on either cpu0 or cpu1?Should be.
    What
is the difference between the 'cpu0' state and the
'run' state?A thread can be sleeping (it doesn't have anything to do), or runnable. Although it's runnable, it doesn't mean that it's running right at that instant.
Note that it's difficult to get a good view of the situation with 'top' (or almost any other program). Because whenever 'top' looks, 'top' will always be running, even though it's only running a fraction of the time.
And does it mean all 4 threads are
running/assigned to cpu0 (or cpu1)? No. Each thread is independently executed. But since you only have 2 processors, and since 'top' has to be running when it runs, you'll only ever see your process on at most one other cpu.
You might want to use 'prstat' and 'prstat -L'. The first shows one line per process, the second one line per thread.
On Solaris 10, the state shows 'cpu'. Does it mean
it is running? And does it mean that each thread may
run on a different CPU therefore the state does not
show any particular CPU number? Is it correct that
Solaris 9 assign the CPU on a per-process basis and
Solaris 10 on a per-thread basis?I don't know exactly what top does or doesn't do. You might try 'prstat' instead.
There is no difference at this level between Solaris 9 and 10. All will schedule on a per-thread basis.

  • Error in installing packages during jumpstart

The machine I am installing via jumpstart is on a terminal server and I am connected to ttya. I am seeing these errors in the log:
    ## Executing postinstall script.
    pkgadd: ERROR: freopen(/dev/tty, "a", stdout) failed, errno=6
pkgadd: ERROR: postinstall script did not complete successfully
and I am told the installation failed with an error code of 1 which, according to the pkgadd man page it a fatal error.
When I do a pkginfo -l on the package it appears that the package is there. Is this something to worry about?
If it means anything, this is the java 1.4.2_02 packages.
    Kent

You might want to redirect stdout & stderr to /dev/null while installing packages via run-scripts (I'm assuming that 's the case).
So, when you're doing the pkgadd, do it like this:
    echo y|pkgadd -a ${MD_PRODUCT}/admin -d `pwd` SUNWmdr > /dev/null 2>&1
Here I'm trying to install a disksuite pkg as a post-install and it givees me the same error messages that you get if I don't redirect 2>&1 to /dev/null

  • Pkgadd problem with reloc as a cpio file

I have a package that we create and distribute (it's a product we have been shipping for a number of years).
After creating the package with pkgm, I put the contents of the reloc into a cpio file named "reloc" (I don't recall where I read about doing this - I don't think it's in the documentation, but it worked fine on Solaris 8). This is primarily for convenience (so that we distribute a program with a half dozen files instead of dozens).
However, we get errors like this when installing our package on Solaris 10 for each file. The installation appears to go OK however.
    ## Installing part 1 of 1.
pkgadd: ERROR: unable to open </StarSQL/package/SunOS/starsql/reloc/starsql/bin/config-lic> for reading: (20)
    Not a directory
If I expand the reloc cpio before installing, the messages do not appear.
Suggestions? Am I using an undocumented feature that has been deprecated?

    Hi,
Suppose you called 03|COUNT1|F4 row as "trailer" in recordset structure.
Then you can use the following parameters:
trailer.missingLastfields = ignore - to get converted to XML only fileds that have been filled in
trailer.missingLastfields = add - to have last fileds filled with empty values
trailer.missingLastfields = error - to terminate FCC since file has not complete structure

    2. Generaly, it's not nessesary, but check:
    mkdir -p /var/sadm/servicetag/registry
    chmod root:sys /var/sadm/servicetag
    chmod svctag:daemon /var/sadm/servicetag/registry

  • Errors during smpatch

Hi, I just did an smpatch analyze/download/add, and I saw a surprising number of problems. The ones that worry me in particular are the bad command usages. Is this normal?! QA can't be this bad, can it?
Also this system has no non-global zones, are the zone errors normal?

    Hi all,

Installation of -SUNWcnetr- on zone -newzone- partially failed.
-newzone- was configured to be a whole root zone. Are there any ways to solve these installation errors?
    Thanks in advance.

This problem seems some strange - this time with Solaris 10u4, from 10 containers installed on a brand new X2200 (2x cpu) only one do not output those errors, but just this one cannot install the dsee or proxy. This time the errors were from:
Installation of <SUNWxwplr> on zone <dsee-proxy> partially failed.
Installation of <SUNWdtdmr> on zone <dsee-proxy> partially failed.
Installation of <SUNWmconr> on zone <dsee-proxy> partially failed.
Installation of <SUNWrmwbr> on zone <dsee-proxy> partially failed.
Installation of <SUNWlvmr> on zone <dsee-proxy> partially failed.
Installation of <SUNWzebrar> on zone <dsee-proxy> partially failed.
So the machine was, too, just installed. After several hours, anoter atempt to install a zone, this time just this one, returned no errors - and the dsee installed without any complains. All configurations were for whole root zones. Used was Solaris 10u4 with the most recent patch cluster applied.
