Placing a animated GIF pic with .Mac mail
Hello, I am a pretty experienced user and cannot find a way to attach an animated GIF to my email. I use .Mac mail and downloaded a program to make animated pictures. The only program I can animate my pics in is Text Edit. I did a thorough search and could not find an answer. Any help will be appreciated. Many thanks.
Please help me, I don't ask many questions. I answer more than I ask,
Help..... (Just kidding)
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

There have been a couple of threads on this now closed without a solution. I discovered how a somewhat tedious way to get an animated gif into a mac mail msg while seeing the animation in action.
I used iWeb to create a blank white pate. I then inserted the animated gif. I posted the page to my website. I placed a bookmark in Safari for this website. Now, when i want to send an email with this animated gif as a signature, I navigate to my website page in Safari, type ⌘I, and this brings up a blank email in MacMail with gif animating. Then just complete your message.JT,
Thanks for the post. I don't pretend to be a guru. It appears from the other posts that Apple chose to prevent animated gifs from animating in Mac Mail to enhance security. I don't know much about making the gifs. Here's the animated gif on the web page. It's of a Toyota FJ Cruiser.

Hey Guys,
The title says it all. Whenever I receive an email with attachments, I will try to forward the email to someone with the attachments. Mac Mail shows that the attachments are attached, but the receiver says the attachments are not there. Our mail host is Rackspace. We are setup with IMAP. It should be noted that we are experiencing similar issues with OS 10.5.8 with Mac Mail 3.6 (936).
We assumed Rackspace was the problem, so we logged into their webmail portal and tested it and the attachments were received as normal, which points everything back to Mac Mail. We even had an ISP change but the problem do not change.
I have researched the problem, and there seems to be evidence of this being a known bug with Mac Mail, but I am hoping there is a workaround. The company is unwilling to move to a different mail client since they use Daylite 4, which does not support Thunderbird.Back up all data.
1. Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder may open, or you may get an error message that the item can't be found. Either result is normal. If the folder does open and has contents, move the contents to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail and test. If there's no change, put the contents of the folder back and quit Mail again.
2. Repeat with this line:
/Library/Mail/Bundles
This time you may be prompted for your login password when you remove the items. Make sure they're removed from the folder and not just copied to the Desktop. If necessary, copy them first and then move the originals to the Trash. -
How do i leave a copy off sent emails on the server with mac mail
How do i leave a copy off sent emails on the server with mac mail.
Pop accountCheck your mail preferences. The example below is from the mail app that comes with mac. In my case I'm using yahoo mail which is a POP3 account. POP stands for post office protocol which is the set of rules used by a POP mail account to transfer mail. You can learn more about it here if interested. If the box below is checked, all the mail will be downloaded to your computer when you check your mail using the built in mail app and removed from the mail server. Here is another page to help you set up your hotmail account for use the the mac mail application. Hope this clears things up.

Email tracking with Mac Mail?
Is there an email tracking service that would seamlessly integrate with mac mail?
I have used mailchimp.com for one of my email marketing campaign, and I was wondering if a service like that could be integrated into mac mail with a plugin or something.
Thank You!Sometimes getting an email with an attachment is a pain.
It isn't mac mail it is the email server you are connecting to.
There is a whole host of reasons why it can be slow.
Don't worry about it unless this freind sends you more attachments and you continue to have trouble then you need to contact the dns administrator of the mail server and report a complaint. -
Can't set up hotmail.co.uk with mac mail
Hello everyone, and thanks for your patience as I know very similar queries have been answered already in previous discussions.
I have just bought my first mac after years of pc use.
I would love to be able to access my hotmail.co.uk account through mac mail on os x tiger.
However, despite following all previous posts as accurately as I possibly can, this still won't work. For this reason, I have transcribed absolutely everything I enter into the account setup below, to see if anyone can see where I keep going wrong.
I have downloaded httpmail (http://www.automagic-software.com/products.php) as suggested on previous posts.
Also as suggested on a previous discussion, I have set mail to run using rosetta, to help deal with any complications I may face using my intel macbook.
My email address is [email protected]
Now, when I go to set up my account on mail, I enter:
PAGE 1: GENERAL INFORMATION
Account type: httpmail
Account description: Hotmail acccount
Full name: Alistair White
Email address: [email protected]
PAGE 2: INCOMING MAIL SERVER
Incoming mail server: www.hotmail.co.uk
Username: awhitetbn
Password: ******
I am then presented with the account summary:
Account description: Hotmail account
Full name: Alistair White
Email address: [email protected]
Username: awhitetbn
Incoming mail server: www.hotmail.co.uk
SSL: off
Outgoing mail server: services.msn.com:awhitetbn
SSL: off
Next page: Conclusion: a new account has been created.
Ok! All seems well, so I send a test email. However, I get the following message:
Cannot send message using the server services.msn.com:awhitetbn
Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server.
However, in the pop-up menu, the only option I have is:
send message using: HTTPmail:awhitetbn
I would dearly love this to work and I sense I am not far from the solution... If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. Where am I going wrong?
Many many thanks

Password issues with Mac Mail-help!
I created a new email account through my internet provider (Comcast) and I can no longer access my email although it is showing up on webmail. The comcast person said I would probably have to change my password. I tried doing this on Mac Mail but there doesn't appear to be the usual place to type in new password and then confirm. I am not sure what password they are asking for. The mail account was set up so long ago that I have never used any password when checking my account. I also notice if I delete the password, the password dots are back when I open preferences up again. I don't understand this and Comcast will not help with Mac Mail questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You said you never used a password when checking you mail. You must have a password on the account, I don't see how you couldn't.
When you go to www.comcast.net and go to the webmail client, you must enter your username and password in order to get your messages. It's this username & password that Apple Mail requires in order to access your email.
If you want/need to change your password, you can do this at www.comcast.net from within the webmail client. When you are at your inbox on the webclient, on the left side of the screen there is a link for "Preferences". Clicking that will take you to another page and one of the options is "Change Your Password". That's where you would go to change your password for that specific email account.
Good luck,

Nevermind, I fixed it (I think). I went into Settings | Accounts & Sync and found Yahoo at the bottom of the list (alphabetically). I selected it and it had an optiion to delete the account, which I did.

SyncMate vs. FoneLink for syncing Nokia E50 notes with Mac Mail
Hello,
After some searching, it appears that there are two programs that would sync my Nokia E50 notes with Mac Mail on my MacBook Pro - SyncMate and FoneLink. Both are priced at about $50 - a bit spendy. Has anybody use / compared the two? Are there other options?
Thanks,

Exchange Server not working with Mac mail
Any tips on how exchange can work work with mac mail? I get connection errors.
Hello Phil.
Copied from Mail Help.
An Exchange account allows you to connect to your Exchange server via IMAP, and if you enter text in the Outlook Web Access Server field, Mail filters non-email related content from the server. (You can get the text you need to enter from your mail account provider.) For Exchange to work with Mail, Exchange administrators need to configure the Exchange server for IMAP access. Some system administrators may refer to an Outlook Web Access Server as an Internet Information Services (IIS) server.
Is the Exchange Server configured for IMAP access? -
Thawte Personal Email Cert - Problem with Mac Mail
Hi, I have requested a free cert from Thawte and there seems to be a problem with Mac Mail (using 2.0.7).
I am using Entourage to send a signed message from [email protected] to [email protected]
If I check mail for [email protected]
Mac Mail reports "There was a problem reading the digital signature for this message"
If I check the same account with Thunderbird, everything works fine.
Anyone else having or had problems?
-chrisHi,
Thanks for the responses. I requested another cert and that did not help. Here is the process I used after requesting another cert.
1. Logged into www.thawte.com and requested a new cert.
2. Using Firefox, retrieved the cert.
3. In Firefox, backed up the cert to a pkcs12 file.
4. Opened Keychain and deleted the first cert.
5. Imported the pkcs12 backup file. Imported fine.
6. Open Entourage, under tools, accounts, exchange profile, security, selected the cert Thawte Freemail Member.
7. Checked all 3 options (sign, include cert, clear test signed.
8. Created a test message from Entourage to .mac account address.
9. Checked mail with Mac Mail and signature fails.
10. Check with 1.02 Thunderbird and it comes back with valid digital signature.
Next, I sent a test email to my Exchange account from Entourage and that message verifies fine. It just seems to not work when I check my email with Mac Mail.
Thanks!

I recently received an email that contained an animated GIF file that I thought was pretty cool and would like to share. However, whether I forward the email or save the gif to desktop and attach it to a new email, it doesn't work. I believe it has something to do with HTML mail, but playing around with my preferences, I'm only offered the options of sending plain text or rich text (neither of which make this work). I'd be grateful for some direction. Thanks.
RTF with Tiger Mail is really HTML but certain things must occur with a message in order for HTML to be implemented such as forwarding a received message that was composed with HTML, copying/pasting HTML formatting from a document or website in a new message, selecting a font and font size and/or text color, using formatting such as bold, underline or italics for selected text with a new message, etc.
Since this received message was composed with HTML that included an animated gif, forwarding the message should work keeping the animated gif active.
How do you know the animated gif did not work when the recipient opened the received message? -
Animated Gif - Problem with Frame Delay
Mac OS X 10.5.8
PSE 6.0
I just created an animated gif by following the steps in PSE Help. It says that I should be able to adjust the rate at which the images rotate by changing the Frame Delay measurement but I am unable to change it. In fact I am unable to change anything in the Animation section of the dialog box.
When I check Animation, the options appear to become active (they're no longer greyed out) but I can neither uncheck the Loop option nor change the Frame Delay option. All other sections of the dialog box work fine.
Your help would be most appreciated!
BethUnfortunately this is broken in PSE 6 and PSE 8. You can tab into the frame delay box if you start above it someplace on that side of the screen, and it appears to let you change the rate, but your choice doesn't really affect the actual frame rate. The only workaround is to duplicate frame layers that you want to stay onscreen longer (so it will be changing just as fast, but not visibly).

Animated GIF starts with rollover
Hello! I want an animated gif to start when I roll over it. I
tried this with a swap image, using the "still" version of the
first frame and then setting the swap image to be an animated gif
file (set directly under the still image. Doesn't seem to work..
should I be able to do this?

Export the animation first, and then use it as the image you
swap in.
Uncheck the preload images function in the swap image editor
to force
the animation to begin playing onMouseOver.

Save for web - animated gif problem PSE (Mac)
Trying to save an animated gif using Save for Web dialogue box...
works fine, except checkbox "Loop" and delay rate drop down box are highlighted (active) but can't be changed
anyone know reason / fix?No fix, alas. This has been a problem in the mac version since PSE 6. If your gif is small, you can duplicate layers so that they appear to stay onscreen longer, but the best advice is to not use PSE/mac for this, unfortunately.
