Playbook shut down and does not power on anymore

My playbook shut down while reading an email and does not power on anymore. Any idea how to fix this?

Try holding power for 20seconds. This will do a hard reboot ofthe device. It's was also mentioned that sometimes leaving it plugged in for awhile can help.

My IPad just shut down and does not want to start again....what can I do?

Assuming that the battery isn't empty (it can take up to 10 or 15 minutes charging before it responds) then have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Try a reset: Hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go.

  • DELL Inspiron N5110 does not Shut Down and does not wake up from Sleep

    Hello.
I have Dell Inspiron N5110 which cannot shut down neither in Windows 7 nor in Ubuntu Linux. I specifically booted Ubuntu Live from the CD to eliminate the possibility that  the problem is in the Windows 7. Shutdown in Ubuntu does not work either. This proves that the reason in not a BACKGROUND application in Windows that remains hanging and does not allow the laptop to shut down.
The laptop cannot wake up after Sleep or Hibernate either.
I have tried every solution that you advised to all the other people in the forum that have the same issue.
    1. The laptop cannot shut down in Safe Mode either.
    2. It cannot shut down even after Clean Boot Mode - all non-MS services disabled and all Startups disabled.
    3. I tried changing the Advanced Power Options of "Allow Hybrid Sleep" - both ON for "On AC Power" and "Running on battery" - no change.
    4. I tried installing the latest video drivers for Nvidia. This did not help either.
    5. Running only on battery does not change anything - still cannot shutdown.
    6. Running only on AC adapter without battery - still cannot shutdown.
    7. I tried removing the AC adapter and battery and holding the POWER button for 30 seconds to RESET the laptop - did not work.
ATTENTION: I've been reading your forums all day and saw at least 10-15 reports of the same problem and not a single fixed case.
    8. This is why I have not tried Flashing the BIOS to the latest version - I read other people tried that and it didn't work either.
    9. I loaded BIOS default settings (F9) - still cannot shutdown.
REMARK: Changing something in the BIOS and trying to Exit once caused the laptop to freeze and I had to Power Off by holding the button for longer.
    10. I ran DELL Diagnostics from Boot menu (F12 at startup) - no errors found.
    11. I could not locate IEEE 1394 Adapter in Device Manager to change its Power Management settings.
Actually none of the suggestions you may give for changing something in Windows makes sense because I already mentioned that shut down in Ubuntu does not work either.
The issue seems to be either in the BIOS or a hardware problem. But which component? Is it the CD/DVD drive?
    This is a new laptop.
Please advice how to proceed. If you know which component fails please tell me.

Remove the keyboard and palm rest (guide from dell shows you how) and you should see a small coin cell battery. Remove it for at least 10 seconds, then put it back in. Enter BIOS and make sure there isn't anything weird that was changed. It should work properly now. I have had this working in Ubuntu 12.04 for the last few days, with no problems.

My Ipad2 just shuts down and will not turn on. Rebooting does not help. He switched on when I start charging it. In this case, the battery is charged.

Standard troubleshooting steps in the following order:
    1. Reset: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the apple logo, then release. Ignore the slide to power off.
    If no change, continue:
    2. Restore your phone from a backup, note: if the problem is related to corrupt data, while this will restore a fresh OS, it will also restore the problem.
    If no change, continue:
    3. Restore as a "new" phone in itunes & re-sync your content. All saved data will be lost.
If no change, make an appointment at an Apple store.

  • My MacBook Pro shut it self down and will not power up

It shut itself down and will not power up. Battery was charged

I have (had) a brand new late2013 13" MacBook Pro that my wife and I really splurged on. It had the 512 gb (over 500, I know that) SSD hard drive, improved processor, and chose to stick with 8 gb of ram. In other words, we dropped close to $2000 on that notebook.
Within a week, it started doing what you are explaining. In fact, during one of the forced shutdowns, I was prompted to send an error message to apple. My wife wanted nothing to do with it, but I chose to anyway. Thankfully I did. When I couldn't take the frustrating shutdowns anymore I took it to the apple store.
AWESOME PEOPLE!!!! Granted I have been a PC guy my whole life. That started to change with my first really thick iPod in 2002. Slowly, the iPad and Apple TV made appearances in my house. My wife (an artist) then came in the picture and I am now and have been an apple guy, w/o the window sticker of course. My interaction with the apple store workers only increased my stoke.
SEND ERROR MESSAGES TO APPLE IF PROMPTED TO DO SO.
As I said, I went against wife and sent one to apple. The apple tech was able to figure out what was wrong immediately considering a copy was kept on my MBP, and because it was day 30 (really was) since purchase, he switched out with BRAND NEW UNIT! No refurb, no hassle!
All was fine until it did it again. Basically, if my computer sat on but was idle, it would go to sleep as we had instructed it to do in the energy savings preference page. Normally, to reawaken MBP, all we needed to do was tap space bar.
Like the first one we traded in, no luck. We would actually have to try and power up with power button, and even the apple techs found it frustrating as we had. Thankfully it did it in front of them as well.
Now is the kicker. Our contact felt incredibly bad, along with store manager, that this was now the third visit we have had to make involving a brand new computer. The manager wanted to make it up to us. I feel like her solution went so far beyond my expectations, I will never own another brand again.
She took all of our merchandise we bought for the 13" MBP, (bag, 12 south vertical stand, etc) and let us pick what ever replacements we wanted for the 15" MBP she was giving us. YEP, A 15"!
due to the fact that we specifically purchased the larger SSD in the 13", the entry level 15" did not offer the larger SSD drive. That saint of a manager moved us into the quad core, I7 with 16gb of ram!!! The only stipulation is that we pay for the apple care. When I thought it was truly over, she had one last surprise and charged only the difference between the apple care prices.
Good things happen to everyone else, always. Happy to report I finally had my turn.
I am not saying you will make out as well as I did, but if it is shutting down, especially in the first 30 days of ownership, send every report to apple it asks you to (for ease of retrieval by Mac employee) and trust they will do right by you. New computers should not shutoff for no reason, and the great thing is, they agree!
Considering my initial purchase for my 13" MBP came to around (off my head $1850 with apple care).
I now own the very high end $2599.00 15" because the SSD hd was comparable to mine.
I can't stress this part enough. I NEVER ONCE RAISED MY VOICE! I was a little upset but never complained once. I was completely understanding and never asked for anything above getting the first computer I paid for to work properly.
THANK YOU APPLE!!!!!THANK YOU APPLE!!!!! THANK YOU APPLE!!!!!
Bring your faulty computer in, send all error messages to apple, and most importantly remember that the young 22yr old standing in front of you there didn't build it. It's not his fault. Work with him with respect and apples philosophy will shine brightly.
FWIW, all of the service techs I spoke with at the Genius Bar are very aware of this situation and all feel an update is headed down the pipeline soon.
    Good luck all!

  • My IBOOK has shut down, and will not start back up

ok here is what has happened. yesterday my 1.2ghz g4 ibook started randomly shutting down. it would shut down and it would take a while of me pushing the power button to get it to start back up. when it would come on, it would switch between charging and not charged quite rapidly even though my power cord was in. now however, it has shut down and will not start up. the battery is fully charged. anyone have any ideas?

I'm telling you. I have lost all faith with Apple. The old iBook I had, 800MHz G4, simply worked fine with no problem waking up or starting up, although it's just a bit slow. Now, I am super frustrated when it just couldn't wake up, either with the sleep light flashing or not, ie it's black screen initially and when I press the Power button once to get it back to life, it just stays black!!!
So the only thing to do is to force power down by pressing the Power button for 10 seconds. Then I press the Power button once to start up, but it just stays black screen. I've left my iBook in that state for a day now, hoping that it will come back alife. But no! And the worst is, I had a similar problem starting up from wake just the day before. I called the Help Desk and they advised me step by step, from taking out the battery, to pressing OptionsCommand+PR, and OptionsCommand+OC, and doing Apple Hardware Test. The iBook seems to just work fine while on the phone with them. And barely 3 hours later, the thing just couldn't wake up. I've powered down and up many times now, and I've left it powering up, but still black screen till now (one day already).
Finding out about resetting PMU on the support page, I've also tried that, but it still can't work.
And you know what? I've sent this unit for repair 3 times already! First they say it's the HDD problem, so they changed that. Then when it still happened, they say it's the logic board problem, so they changed that for me. And again when it happened, they changed another logic board for me. So now, it's the fourth time, what do you think I should do? I don't think going back changing another logic board will help!
I am in fact ****** off! If Macs are great, then why me? Why my iBook? I am telling this forum that we cannot accept a big corporation giving us sub-standard products. I've since read this forum carefully and found that many of us faced the same problem! We just cannot sit down idly and let the company get away with it. This is a warning to fellow users out there that face this same problem. Let us voice out our frustrations and make Apple give us some compensation for it. I say this because I depend on my laptop iBook for presentation to clients, and this happened exactly twice when I was in front of my clients. I don't mind losing face but can Apple compensate me for my loss of business and future business from my clients?
Voice out strongly your unhappiness to Apple now!

  • HT1222 I started the lastest iPhone 5s software update then my phone just shut down and will not turn back on. I've tried the home button, the button plus the top right button together for 20 sec, plug it in and nothing

I started the lastest iPhone 5s software update then my phone just shut down and will not turn back on. I've tried the home button, the button plus the top right button together for 20 sec, plug it in and nothing

Plug your device into the original charger & block in a wall outlet and leave it alone for a couple of hours. Then, while it is still plugged in, restart it by holding down the home button and the power button for 10-15 seconds until you see the Apple, then let go.

I was charging and updating my mini ipad last night when it suddenly shut down and will not turn on since then. What do I do to turn it on again?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.
