Playhead Info is missing clip time v9.0.9

After enabling Playhead Info, when I run a cursor over the clip it shows creation time info but not the clip time in minutes and seconds.  I have enabled display time in Preferences.  Am I missing something?

  • Event Browser - Display Playhead Info iMovie 11?

Hello all, I've spent a great deal of time trying to get the playhead info to display in the event browser. It is important for this to work as I want to make a compilation video from 4 or 5 different feeds and have to sync the video to the recorded sound. I've tried the suggestions in previous topics such as renaming the file to the following format clip-2007-04-01 12;23;03.mov. This suggestion does not work for me and the playhead displays the date created not the information in the file name.
Anyone have any suggestions? Is this even possible? This is driving me crazy.

    5¢ from Europe here:
    a) I would NEVER consider to fumble a data-base app (=iMovie) by re-naming any content outside the app. iMovie offers an 'Adjust Clips Date & Time'-feature …
    b) the problem occurs with 00:00 (just learned the phrase 'dark zero'  )
from my European perspective - is this a 12 either? or, when is12am, resp. 12pm? and in computer/Unix logic: what (or when?) is the difference btw 12pm and zerozero?
with my (German) local settings, I don't have any am or pm in the clips tag, nor in its real file name.
so, could be a simple translation error - from metric to am/pm, or from am/pm to 'computer-ish'/Unix

  • How to get clip times

How do I get clip times in imovie. I know on the imported clip what clip times I want to copy into my new movie but I cant see the clip times. How do I get clip times up on my larger clip?

Click VIEW/PLAYHEAD INFO. Then you can see the time as you skim over your event clips.

  • Playhead info not there

In iMovie '13 (or 10 - what it is called now!) I can't seem to see any playhead info about how far into a clip I am at any given point. In iMovie '11 you just hit cmd+y and you saw it when you scrubbed.
Does anyone know how to get it or if it is even here anymore?

this is very very frustrating .. I used to view my movies e.g. in iphoto, wrote down the time of the scenes and then edited in imovie using the cursor/playhead time stamp noted while I was watching the material in iphoto. I can't believe that they have removed this... Am I doing something wrong ?

  • Best way to import MTS (AVCHD)/missing clips using Log and Transfer

My footage (Sony HDR 500) of an average project consists of approximately 10 hours film and 1600 clips. When I use the option Log and Transfer to import in FCE not all clips are imported in FCE. All other clips are consecutively numbered and cannot be compared with the numbering of the clips on the camera anymore. As a result it is, with those large amounts of clips, almost impossible to find out which clips are missing.
Importing takes a very long time (is that normal?) so I would like to run this proces at night, but due to this missing clips problem I am afraid to do this so it is not a good option for me. Does anyone recognize this problem?
To avoid all this I now convert all clips with Voltaic to .mov before importing. At least I know for sure that I have all clips imported, but it is so cumbersome and it takes a lot of time too. This proces I do in steps because I am afraid to start everything at once. After converting the project almost takes 120 GB.
It takes days before everything is imported and that frustrates me. If the same material is imported in Edius for example it only takes an hour (tested) so it appears to be an FCE/Apple problem. Is there any way to accelerate?
I am working with an iMac from 2010, 2,8GHz quadcore i7, 16GB intern geheugen met snow leopard.
I hope someone can help me out.
    Thanks, Jacqueline

While I have not seen the exact problem you describe, 1600 clips is a lot of clips to import at once - so is 10 hours of video.
If you are using FCE to Log & Transfer directly from the camera, your clips are automatically being transcoded to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC) during importing, which explains the long time it takes to ingest the clips.
Also, QT/AIC files are much, much larger than the AVCHD clips in your camera.  If you are shooting 1920x1080 video, 10 hours of AVCHD translates into roughly 450GB of QT/AIC clips.  It is possible that you may be a) running out of disk space, or b) exceeding the scratch disk minimum allowable free space set in FCE > System Settings.  If so, that could explain why not all your clips are being imported - FCE is probably stopping the Log & Transfer process when it hits the disk space limit.
Regarding alternatives, I'm not so sure about Voltaic.  The Voltaic documentation says it only supports H.264 in QT/.mov files, and that would not be usable in FCE.  Check some of those clips to see what codec they are.  I suspect they are H.264.  (Also, you referred to the converted clips taking 120GB space, which just happens to match the AVCHD storage capacity of your camera ... and AVCHD is a form of H.264 video, so they take up about the same disk space.)
In order to edit your clips in FCE, they need to be QT/AIC.  Two alternatives come to mind - Clipwrap and MPEG Streamclip.  Both can convert AVCHD video to QT/AIC, and both support batch conversion.  If it were me, I'd consider Clipwrap first, for this volume of material, since Clipwrap was specifically designed for AVCHD.
The reason importing is so much faster in Edius is that it can import & directly edit AVCHD clips; Edius basically just copies the clips from the camera to your hard drive.  FCE has to convert the clips to QT/AIC first, before you can edit the video, and that takes considerable time.

  • Help - Problems exporting my first project - missing clips

    Hi all,
I've been a sound engineer for close to 20 years and I'm just finishing my first ever video edit, a project to help my wife.  Naturally our deadline is tomorrow morning....
I've got my edit done and it plays perfectly in Final Cut Pro X viewer.  When I export in any format (Youtube or just as a file to Quicktime) certain clips do not appear in the exported movie, the audio is there but the video is blacked out.  They are the same clips every time.
I imported most of the clips from the same camera, albeit in a few different batches.  When I look at the inspector info for some clips that play and some that don't they are exactly the same Codec - H.264, Linear PCM.
Any ideas on what could be causing this?
    Thanks,
    Ruairi

    Try this (might work).
Select one of the offending clips in the storyline and hit Shift+F to find it in the browser.
    Hit Cmd+C to copy it.
Create a new project (Cmd+N) and paste the clip in there.
Export the clip with it's current settings, then re-import that clip into the storyline and try your export again.
    Does the clip show up?
    If so, repeat as necessary.
The only other thing I can think of is to trash your preferences:
Download Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager (free, simple to use, and perfectly safe, both to download and use).

  • Undo is causing missing clips in tieline

Very often when I attempt to undo a change in FCE...to delete a clip that was just inserted for instance...all the other clips in the timeline revert back to their original positions, as they should, but with gaps throughout where clips used to be. If I click play in the canvas the missing clips appear in the canvas even as the playhead moves over blank space and there is no way to access them in the timeline. As far as the timeline is concerned they are gone. Not all of the clips...just one or two or sometimes several are missing, scattered throughout the sequence.
Any ideas about the cause of this strange behavior?

Well, I never had your problem.
My best guess is that the rendered files are not handled correctly by FCE after you undo the operation. This happened to me with nested sequences, but there might be some relation with your problem.
So you could try removing the rendered files and re-render after undo (to delete render files, you may either disable full tracks, or single clips, using the contextual menu).
    Worth a try

  • Missing clips by converting to imovie11

I just made the covertion to imovie11. Several clips in projects are With a ? . When i look for the missing clips  i find them back on my external disk where
the new library is made. I can put them one by one in the project, but this is a lot of work. What am i doing wrong that the clip won't come automaticaly in the
    projects?
    Dirk

Yeah, if I hadn't already spent so much time on the project, I would have just started over but that is not an option. The thing that is so frustrating about this is that the events are both there and intact (the clips will play just fine in the event browser), I just need to link them appropriately in the timeline and for some reason, it's insisting on pulling both interviews from one event where a duplicate clip was somehow copied.  I wouldn't mind just leaving them both there, but I suspect this muddling of things is what's causing the lack of video and the random 'missing clip' issues. Hargh.
What exactly do you mean by fix the files one by one?  Fortunately, there are actually only a few clips in question. The events are interviews; one is a singular hour-long clip and the other is two clips that comprise an hour. Do you mean correcting them in the timeline or in the event browser or in the file folder tree? The files are on an external drive if that somehow helps.
Russ- thanks to you as well. Hopefully this has shed a little light on my issue. I imported my clips from a camera...not exactly sure what "kind" they are. As for the melding of events, I have no idea what happened. All was fine then suddenly, missing clips everywhere and one event was copied into the other and timeline clips are now inexplicably linked to the combo event, not to the original event which still exists and is fine! I have invested a ton of time on this project (a documentary), so I really need to resolve this. I can't help but think this should be easier than it seems. Everything is there, it just needs to be straightened out.
Many thanks for your interest and help, I really appreciate it!!

  • How to stop from asking about Missing Clips?

Whenever I start Premiere Elements 8, it asks me to locate some missing clips (I deleted them from my machine as I no longer need them).
If I choose "skip all", it proceeds into Premiere, but the next time I start up, it asks me again!
How do I stop Premiere from asking me about missing clips?

    ATR,
You are 100% correct. From the OP, it was my understanding that these files were not going to be used in this Project. If they really are, then they need to be retrieved (from backup, hopefully), or by re-Capture, as they have been deleted from the HDD.
Your methods should help in the future, if such media files are really still required. Some do not understand that the Project file is NOT a repository for media - it is only an XML database of links and instructions. This ARTICLE goes into more details on that.
If I am incorrect on these deleted files still being required, I do hope that copies of them exist elsewhere, or that a recovery program, like Stellar-Phoenix, can be run, before the HDD space gets overwritten. I hope that I am correct.
Thanks for the warnings and for the instructions on how to handle things, in the event that the files ARE still needed in the Project.
In my exampe above, one can see the Video usage column. In the OP's case, these should be empty, i.e. no numbers present. If they have ANY numbers besides them, they should also appear as Off-Line, and then the OP needs to get those back and in a hurry.
Here's a look at that Video Usage Column:
Good luck to the OP and please let us know exactly what the state of these files is, regarding your Project.

  • Upgraded iDVD 6 missing clip errors

I recently upgraded to iLife 6 after successfully creating over 20 movies (DVD's) with iLife 5. The first movie that I edited with the new iMovie came out really well (45 minutes long), but when I go to burn the DVD using iDVD 6.0, I always get the same error..."Cannot find Clip 158" (or several missing clips) with an option to "Search" or "Cancel". Searching is to no avail...because the clips that iDVD says are missing are not part of the final edited movie, and selecting cancel just dumps the DVD burn. This error is very repeatable (tried 4 times).

Hello, I am also having a similiar problem, I am trying to burn an imovie project in idvd, and while it begins encoding, it gives me a message that I am missing clips that a) are not in my project, or b) are in my project and are not missing.
Can you help me to solve this? My contract project is due tomorrow, and I can not get it to them....?????

  • FCP clip time remapping / speed ramping question re realtime after changes?

    Hello All,
My first post here! I tried searches for this topic but didn't find....
I wasted hours today messing with the keyframe editor to try and ramp parts of a single clip... first time using this feature and couldn't follow the manual! way too difficult to grasp without fluency in 'techygeekconfusic' lingo. Anyway, I don't think the topic was covered from what I read in my version of the manual.
So I went straight for the keyframe editor graphic display under the clip in timeframe and put in a few points with the pen tool (using time graph blue line) and seemed to be going great until I realised that the segments in the single clip (ten minutes long) that I was adjusting were affecting what came after - ie slowing down the remainder of the clip. And that was all I could get from my manual that this happened without any explanation about stopping it happen by letting the outpoint of the clip readjust automatically for the changes made to that part of clip so that altered clip would be shorter in timeline...
I then tried again from the start but noting the minus time on pentool arrow when I slid each keyframe point back and subtracting it from the duration in motion tab and that seemed to work for a while...
but God bless my little brain! what I really wanted to happen - for the blasted thing to readjust itself automatically after I had adjusted a segment of the clip so that the remaining non-adjusted part would play in realtime with a new shorter outpoint in the sequence timeline - just couldn't be realised in my little brain or in the 'user friendly' control panels of FCP.
I tried to get hold of the 'bezier' point at the end of clip and drag forward at the same rate as each change but could'nt get hold of it! I tried to put two points with pen tool at same time but couldn't isolate them from one another to create four points for adjustment without having still frames between.. blah blah.. I tried to get snapping to the pen tool points for further control but couldn't... duh!
Please! how do you do it! obviously I have limited intelligence but I need to do this now. I want to adjust the 10 minute clip (DVCproHD 720p24N format - not that this should matter as my sequence settings are same) adjust the clip at maybe 10 different places so that it ramps in speed to cover up some boring areas and then back to normal speed after the changes - not back to some slo mo **! speed.
I tried cutting with the razor tool to isolate and that didn't work either and other analogue brain type stuff ok I know you are laughing at me now but please help?!! I'm pretty new to this stuff, give me the old reliable Steenbeck and a few real bins and strips of film hanging on clothes pegs and I'll be ok...
Help will be most gratefully appreciated!!!!!!!!

Andy did a very good job explaining the underlying problem with the time remap tool.
The key thing to remember is the first and last frame are fixed in time. If you speed up the clip, time after that keyframe will have to slow down to compensate. Imagine the clip is a rubber band that has been cut so that it is a long string-like form. Now imagine anchoring each end of it with a push pin to a board. If you grab a point on the band and pull it toward one of the pins, the part of the band on the side you are pulling away from the anchor will stretch (run slower) and the side you are pulling toward will bunch up (run faster). But, when all is done, the start and end will still be at the fixed points.
The way I've worked through this is to make a general guesstimate of how long the clip will be once all the ramping is complete. For example, I want the clip to start at normal (100%) speed and ramp up to 300% and back down to 100%. I might start with a clip having a constant speed of 200% and then change it to variable and play with it. The key concept is if you can get the overall LENGTH to where it should be, the rest works out fine.
I have repeatedly asked in the FEEDBACK/New Features page that they add a toggle to the speed/time remap tools. This toggle should allow you decide whether the playback TIME for the clip should be fixed or flexible.
For example, if you were working with a 4 second clip and wish to slow it down by 50% -
If 'Maintain Time' is toggled ON, when you decrease the speed of clip by 50% - the clip will still play for 4 sec (but will show only half the total frames).
If the toggle is OFF, the 4 sec clip will now play for 8 sec and will display all the frames.
Where this concept becomes really powerful is when it's applied to time remap. If you have 'Maintain time' toggled OFF, as you adjust speed, the end point of the clip will float in time. If you increase the speed, the overall time of the clip will shrink. If you slow it down, the end point moves out in time.
We need to keep asking ...

  • How do I move my playhead in exact measures of time?

Relatively new to AE and want to know how do I move my playhead in exact measures in time.
For example in a 59.94 project,  I'm at  1:00:14 and want to move back 36 frames. In Premiere Pro I just type "-36" and I jump back 36 frames.
I tried in AE and it went to -36 frames in the comp. Basically before my time line ever started. I've tried ".36" "0.36" ".0036" with identical results Back to -36 before the comp begins.
Anyone have a solution? I cannot find it in the manual.
    Thanks in Advance

    from After Effects Help:
"To go forward a specific period of time or number of frames, click the current-time display, and then enter the plus sign ( + ) followed by the timecode or number of frames to advance. For example, enter +20 to go forward 20 frames or 1:00 to go forward one second. Precede the value by the minus sign ( - ) to go backward. For example, enter +-20 to go backward 20 frames or +-1:00 to go backward one second."

  • I'd like to go back to Maverick but i miss a Time machine save

    Hi everyone.
    Here are my 2 questions:
    - First, I'd like to go back to Maverick but i miss a Time machine save. Is it possible or it would be too complicated? Complicated is another word that i'd never, ever, imagine to use with an Apple product.
    - Second, how can i ask for a refund? I payed much for a high level of service and this is not even a good service

    Thanks for the help.
