Plug-In development and ASN membership

Everyone can download the InDesign SDK but on the other hand everywhere I'm told that I can't really develop an Plug-In with it without a debug build of InDesign. As far as I found out one has to join ASN by paying a minimum of 195$. Is it even guaranteed that I get the debug build after asking for it then?
Let me see if I get it right. I'm trying to develop a Plug-In to improve InDesign and fill some functionality holes it has. That would (if all goes well) make InDesign a more attractive application which Adobe will benefit from and I shall pay Adobe for that?

  • Ducallbacks.h and Acrobat SDK XI Plug-in Development

    I am new to plugin development and am in the process of upgrading a plug-in developed under Acrobat 5.  The SDK XI API documentation under "Plug-ins and Applications > Developing Plug-ins and Applications > Understanding Plug-ins > About plug-in initialization > Handshaking" references the DUCallbacks.h header file.
    I have that header file in the Acrobat 5 SDK, but I do not see it in the current Acrobat XI download and I don't see any usage of it in the SDK XI samples.  Am I missing files or is Ducallbacks.h no longer part of the SDK? If it's not a part of the SDK any longer, is there an updated version of the plug-in developer's guide that discusses handshaking under the current SDK?  I have searched the Adobe site and not found anything newer than what's included in the SDK download.
    Thanks!

    Thank you.  It is disappointing that Adobe is releasing an obsolete document with the Acrobat XI SDK.  I wasted several hours trying to track this down.  I will use the sample code from here on.

    Actually, there is a Nik/Nikon connection — but I am pretty sure it is irrelevant to the OP's question. The connection is that Capture NX2 was written as a joint venture between Nikon and Nik. (The name similarity is a coincidence.)
    Capture NX2 is a cool program that incorporates the features of Nik's Viveza and Nikon's Raw processing engine, along with some other powerful image adjustment features. It provides, like Aperture, a losses workflow. Unlike Aperture, the adjustments (Edit Steps in C-NX terminology) are saved in the original NEF file along with the un-altered raw data. Multiple versions can be saved in a single NEF.

    A year or so ago I had turned on a toolbar that sat at the top with the other toolbar, and had many tools for development and checking of websites. You could turn Java on/off, javascript on/off, turn on source view, and many other things. Now I cant find that toolbar. All that I can find now turns on a panel in the lower half of the window that probably does all the same stuff, but it takes up much more room. Where did that toolbar go? or was it an add-on or plug-in?

    It sounds like you may be referring to the Web Developer add-on.

  • Who can share some Adobe Reader plug-in development documentation besides SDK documentation?

    Hi,
    I want to develop a Adobe Reader plug-in to realize a function that I can delete/insert the pdf file's content when open a PDF file, but the SDK documentation is too indistinct to me, for example: which callback method I should to call? I read the AS_Layer of the SDK documentation, it seems that the PMSetTextProc should be invoke?  How and where should I to invoke this callback method? The SDK documentation doesn't provide a sample.
    Who can share me some more detailed Adobe Reader plug-in development documentation? or who can give me some advice how to read and use the SDK documentation?

    thank you Test Screen Name, thanks for help me these days.
    I want to realize a function, read a encrypted PDF file's content and then decrypt the content, and show the decrypted content in the PDF file when open a PDF file with Adobe Reader. so I need to call a callback method to capture the moment of open PDF file and display it.
    I read the content of Acrobat Core API of SDK documentation, this documentation describe the Portable Document layer as follows:
    PDFEdit methods deal with the physical representation of a PDF document. More specifically, PDFEdit methods handle page content as a list of objects whose values and attributes are modifiable. These methods allow your plug-in or PDF Library application to read, write, edit, and create page contents and page resources, which may contain fonts, images, and so on.
    I look up PDFEdit_Layer in the SDK API,  not found the callback method to response to open PDF file and display content, so I think that may be my idea is wrong.
    Could you point out my mistakes?

  • Browser Plug-in development with Java

    Hiya!
    My company wants me to develop a plug-in for different browsers (e.g. Internet Explorer, Mozilla, etc.) running on different platforms (e.g. Windows, Linux, etc). My first thought was that I should develop that plug-in in Java.
    But how to develop a browser specific plug-in in Java? Can I use the Java plug-in provided by Sun for Internet Explorer? Do you think a browser specific plug-in developed in Java meets performance issues. Does anybody have a good idea to avoid long downloading time of JRE if not installed?
    Did someone developed a browser specific plug-in in Java?
    Or is it the better way to step back to C/C++ and develop an ActiveX component, ...
    Please help me out ...
    Best regards
    Gerhard

    Sun provides java plugin support for major OS's and Browsers. They also provide a helpful utility (HTMLConverter) which converts current HTML documents with <APPLET> tags to the corresponding TAGs the plugin utilizes (<OBJECT> for IE and <EMBED> for Netscape).
    Do you think a browser specific plug-in developed in Java meets performance issues?
    The main bottleneck occurs when the applet requires a plugin to be loaded. If loaded over the Internet on a dialup line, this can be substantial. I am testing on an intranet and it takes about 20 seconds to load the jre.
    Here is a link to get started with:

    Pete,
    PS I happen to be using the java plugin myself for the firt time and have run into a problem with installing it for Netscape on Linux. If you have successfully done this I would appreciate any advice. Below is a link to my post regarding the problem.

  • Modification for ECS for invoice and ASN functionality in SUS

    Hello Experts:
    Currently I am implementing SRM 5.0 with SUS integration in ECS. I have found some references that specify that if my requirement is to have the creation of Invoices and ASN in SUS, in order to transfer these to EBP I need to do some development on my own. I have to questions regarding this:
    1.- The references only talks about Materials, is it possible to do this kind of implementation also for Invoices and ASNs of Services??
    2.- Any of you could provide me with some general steps of the activities to be done in order to accomplish this requirement if I am using XI.
    Thanks for all the information you can provide me.
    Hugo

    Hi
    SRM-SUS integration is mainly used for service procurement where the document flow is PO> PO Response> Confirmation/Service Entry-->Invoice.
    ASN doesn't carry any meaning for service procurement. You might use ASN if you are procuring direct materials.This is covered by MM-SUS integration.
    Also pl. remember that SRM-SUS integration with ECS scenario is supported only to a limited extent by SAP. This means that your SUS confirmations when they come to SRM do not get replicated to ECC backend.
    Thanks

  • What is native for EP and what is needed to develop and how...

    Hi guys!
    I have to prepare a presentation of possibilities of the SAP's EP 6.0. I need to know, what is "native" - just plug n' play and how to develop other things... Can you help me please? Any links, documents .... are welcome!
    Another question: If I have an independent web application...  - how is it possible to develop it wthin the portal?
    Thanx 4 answer... Points are guaranteed!
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
    There is a wealth of information you can pull from SAP sites by looking at presentations and product info.  If you need a short cut, I have a simple presentation I put together with some talking points about the SAP Portal.  eMail me at [email protected] to get it.
    In a nut shell, the "native" things you can get from the SAP Portal is quick and easy access to SAP systems.  For example, you can create and display a page to users with a SAP R/3 transaction, an ITS screen, or a BW report in just a few minutes.  With some simple configuration work, users will not have to login to the separate systems.  One of the key advantages of the portal is that it creates an environment for administrators to create/modify views to information using configuration (templates) instead of having to do any coding.
    SAP Portal out-of-the-box also has some support for connecting to web services (SAP and non-SAP) and for displaying content from external/internal sites using an IFrame.
    If you are not familiar with Portals, I would read some of the product information on the SAP Portal.  There you will learn more about the use of Roles to secure and display information, delegated administration of content, end user features, etc.
    Another key concept is the use of Business Packages provided by SAP and other vendors.  Business Packages are pre-built content that you import into the portal.  These packages do require some configuration, however, they are really meant to be "plug and play."  Depending on your companies license agreements, a lot of these packages may be free.  Examples, include Employee Self Service and Manager Self Service business packages that interface with the HR Module in R/3 and BW.  You can get to a listing of the packages here: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/developerareas/contentportfolio   If you look at some of them, you will see documents and screen shot examples.
    If you are not using out-of-the-box functionality then you will create your own templates and applications.  Custom development is done based on JAVA or ABAP development stacks or by using visual toolsets.   JAVA development is done using SAP Netweaver Developer Studio which is based on the Eclipse IDE.  There are two main styles of JAVA development: JSPDynPage model or WebDynpro model.  The first is pure JAVA, the second is designed to speed up development with some JAVA and some Configuration/Visual development.  ABAP development can be done using SE80 and writing a BSP or I beleive you can run a JAVA and ABAP stack for your portal.  .NET development of iViews can be done using the SAP Netweaver Developer Studio for .NET.  Visual development can be accomplished using Visual Composer (I would stay away from this until 2.0 comes out).
    My company has been successful deploying Business Packages, configuring SSO to systems, custom iView creation to R/3, BW, and ITS, custom JAVA development, BSP development.
    We have also experimented with deploying our own web applications on the WAS and may move all JAVA development onto the WAS for hosting.
    To take an exisiting web app and truly make it a portal app you would have to rewrite quite a bit of the front end.  You could almost completely separate out the back end of the app from the front end.  You would have to rewrite the front end of the app and possibly redesign the app to take advantage of portal functionality (eventing, centally managed styles, etc).
    Another option besides a full rewrite of the app is just to create a url iView (basically an IFrame) to your existing application.  This way it is in portal and then you can take advantage of Roles and security.  With this option though, the portal doesn't control the display of the app (if your buttons and color are different they will remain different).  This is nice for working with a vendor app.
    Yet another option would be to integrate the app enough to take advantage of portal events.  To do this you would write a quick custom Portal application to accepts events and call your app with parameters.  With this option though the portal doesn't control the display of the app.
    Sorry for the book, but you asked a few open ended questions, which, there probably are books out there to cover.  I know I only touched on a few of the capabilities.

  • New Development and CA

    We are in process of developing new eCommerce application on ATG. We also have a business requirement to manage images and products using BCC. Most of the business requirements in phase 1 of the project is to configure and deploy application code along with CA ( BCC / Merchandising). My question is whether it is advisable to do new application development along with CA configuration at the same time. What does ATG best practice say in this regard. My opinion is that we should do new application development (deliver new functionality) first to be followed by CA initiative. I have never directly worked on CA projects but I have been part of large teams with multiple initiatives where CA being one of the initiative and I have seen there are quite a few steps that one need to follow in configuring and deploying CA / BCC e.g. versioning of modules, modifying DB schema to support versioning etc. I don't want to run into issues where our main focus is to deliver new functionality and want to avoid the complexity of doing both new development and CA at the same time.
    Edited by: 899085 on Nov 24, 2011 12:01 PM

    The best practice recommendation would be to include any BCC/CA implementation as early as possible in your project plan. Understanding the process of how the business users will be using the tools and what impact any customizations to the ATG code your applications make are very important in a successful rollout of a site usign the BCC and Merchandizing. We tend to see that the projects which attempt to implement BCC/CA at the last minute are the ones that encounter the most problems. Projects which include the BCC and CA in the early stages of the applciation design, project planning, and UAT and load testing go through a much smoother test cycle and launch.

  • Development and Production Requirements for a Forms/Report application

    Dear all,
    We have an application witch run in client/Server mode using Forms/Reports 6i For 300 users.We want to migrate it on Forms/Reports 9I using Oracle 9IAS and Oracle 9IDB.
    I would like to have advises about material requirements of both development and production environment((developer deskop, development appServer and databaseServer, end user desktop,production databaseServer and production AppServer).
    Thank u for giving more details about my request.

    I have my dev and production on 2 different databases/instances, and the workspaces have a different name aswell (think 'dev' and 'prod').
    I do reuse my application ids, which makes the whole process a lot more manageable: easier for me to identify and replacing a whole application.
    However, when i want to replace only 1 page, apex stumbles over the workspace. Bummer.
    So i took an export of a page on both workspaces, and opened the files.
    prompt  Set Credentials...
    begin
      -- Assumes you are running the script connected to SQL*Plus as the Oracle user APEX_040100 or as the owner (parsing schema) of the application.
      wwv_flow_api.set_security_group_id(p_security_group_id=>nvl(wwv_flow_application_install.get_workspace_id,1377027056414870));
    end;
    wwv_flow_application_install.get_workspace_id,1377027056414870));
    I took both workspace IDs and keep them in a simple txt in my installation-files folder. Each time i need to import a page from dev->prod i go in the exported file from dev and change the workspace id to the id of my production workspace id. Everything works magically after that.
    If your application ids also differ, you can try changing the id in the exported file aswell, but i can't tell if it works or not since i've not done that yet.
    prompt  Set Application ID...
    begin
       -- SET APPLICATION ID
       wwv_flow.g_flow_id := nvl(wwv_flow_application_install.get_application_id,130);
       wwv_flow_api.g_id_offset := nvl(wwv_flow_application_install.get_offset,0);
    null;
    end;where of course you'd change around nvl(wwv_flow_application_install.get_application_id,130);

  • Development and marketing of SAP EP solutions - any licenses required?

    Hi
    Not sure which forum to post this in, so - maybe Coffee Corner is a good start
    My question is about the licensing required to development and marketing small add-ons / extensions for SAP Enterprise Portal.
    Is it possible for the individual developer to develop and market small add-ons for EP in Java WDP, making use of a trail EP installation?
    Do you need a special license for this (to develop commercial products)?
    Maybe like a [SAP NetWeaver Developer Subscription|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/subscriptions/development?refer=subscriptionslandingpage], or the [SAP Composition Subscription|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/subscriptions/composition?refer=subscriptionslandingpage]?
    Reading up on the [Subscriptions FAQ|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/subscriptions/software-faq#q-4-5], and it is not very clear:
    Can I use my developed add-ons, extensions, developments, or modifications in a production environment?
    In order to run your add-ons, extensions, developments, or modifications in a production environment, you need to purchase the applicable license from SAP. SAP customers or partners who already have an applicable license can use SAP NetWeaver in a production environment.
    So-
    "SAP customers or partners who already have an applicable license can use SAP NetWeaver in a production environment"
    I'm not expecting to run the SAP NetWeaver Developer/Trail version you get with the subscription in a production environment - the question is would any prospective buyers of your developed add-ons be able to run these in their (fully licensed) NetWeaver / EP production environments?
    (I feel this FAQ is not answering its own question correctly).
    Purchasing a full EP license is a little out of my budget, and even the two developer subscriptions mentioned above are only available in Germany & the USA (and I reside in neither of which).
    Any suggestions from the guys & girls of the Coffee Corner?
    Thanks!

    I am not a lawyer, but my interpretation of this is that the subscription systems are for "sneak previews" of releases and experimenting with the software to see whether you like it or not...
    So this means that if you do development work on it and want to use it in a production environment, you will need a full license to run the software productively first, and then add your development to that licensed landscape.
    This is a different topic to licensing your own development. For this you would need to become a solution partner and request your own namsepace in SAP, and then license it as optional software via service.sap.com.
    For the "little individual" like you and me, this is not really an option IMO.
    In some special cases, I have seen external coding included in the standard system, and you get a special mention for it sometimes in the coding comments.
    I was thinking about the same as well because I am busy experimenting with a tool for making dual maintenance of roles during upgrades easier and know a few customers who would be interested in such a tool (possibly controlled centrally by a SolMan CTS+ with after import rule sets).
    Being ABAP, I think I could try to sell it once or maybe twice... but after that I expect it would be "in the wild" and see others posting it here on SDN as well...
    On the otherhand, ABAP is more of a hobby for me and I am not a guru at it like many others here. If I were to post it here myself... then I could benefit from other contributions to improving it and making it more robust - like an open source project.
    Just some thoughts,
    Julius

    Hi,
    I am looking for information about portal development and administration methodology (How to manage the PCD, iViews, Roles, user groups, etc... ?)
    Any personal experiance tips and suggestions will be appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi Elad,
    I think a good start is help.sap.com. Take a look at the following URLs.
    Portal Administration Guide:

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/de/21/82a9058fa8de46b1ba7522289345b2/frameset.htm
    Depending on your personal strenght you can do your portal development in e.g. HTMLB jof JAVA. You'll find some infos on that here:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/fd/01f34026d70b06e10000000a155106/frameset.htm

    Or you can try out some Visual Composer stuff. Take a look at this URL:

    If you are more into ABAP you can of course try out the latest WebDynpro for ABAP but this works only for NW 2004s. You'll find a lot of information here on SDN. Look at the current frontpage!
