SUPPLY AREA  & Controlling Cycle

Hello,
I am working with PP REM scenario.
I want to know more about the customizing and master data and Function of following terms.
1. SUPPLY AREA
And
2.  Controlling Cycle
Maulik

Dear Maulik,
Dear Maulik,
The Master data required for Kanban production control includes
1.Supply Area:A supply area is an interim storage location on the shop floor which is used to provide material directly to the
production line or the work center.
The supply area can be a shelving area, an area marked off on the ground, special boxes and so on. Defining the supply areas
for a plant is part of the material flow design for KANBAN. The supply area is defined in Customizing and is assigned the following
objects:
Plant
Storage location
Person responsible
Goods movements are posted to the storage location assigned to the supply area.
One storage location can be assigned to several supply areas, however, one supply area cannot be assigned to several storage locations.
2.Control Cycle: The control cycle defines the relationship between the demand source and the supply source.
The control cycle contains the following control data for KANBAN production:
●     Kanban circulation, that is, the number of kanbans and the quantity per kanban or per call item as well as the number of load carriers
●     The basic data required for automatic kanban calculation, if necessary
●     Replenishment strategy
●     Printing kanbans, if necessary
●     The delivery address, if necessary
3.Replenishment Stragegy: The replenishment strategies define in the control cycle how replenishment is to take place:
Using in-house production
Using external procurement
Using stock transfer
The replenishment strategies also determine whether and which replenishment elements (run schedule quantities, production orders, and so on) are created by the kanban signal.
The replenishment strategy is assigned to the material in the control cycle.
1.You can create the supply area by executing PK05
2.Control cyce can be created using PK01.

  • Handling Unit Management and supply areas with WM/control cycles

    Dear all,
has anyone come across the issue how to handle a replenishment process for production with supply area within WM and Handling Unit Management?
Normally a supply area is being staged via control cycles. in the supply area, all storage units get lost (standard functionality as far as I know). When we post the GI, the components will be taken out of the supply area, backflushing is not allowed as far as I know.
Now: what happens if HUM is switched on? Do we have to enter a HU for these GI's as well? Or does the supply area  keep the information of the SU/HU? I want to avoid that the users have to tell the system the HU no. for every screw they take/consume...
    Thanks & regards
    Christian

    Hi,
    (as already described,)
it is possible to use handling unit management together with lean
warehouse management. You activate handling unit management independent
from storage unit management (that is only possible in case of full-WM
    as far as I know).
Only in case if storage location is full-WM- AND HU-managed the storage
unit management is always active and HU numbers are taken over as SU
numbers. In all other cases HUM and SUM are independent from each other
and number ranges must be set a way that they are not overlapping.

  • Creation of control cycles for lean WH

    Hi All,
Is it possible to create control cycles (backflush) for LWH, if so how?

    HI ,
There is one more way to create control cycle.
    1. PK05 - create supply area ( earlier explained the procedure)
    2. PKMC - enter plant - go to change mode ( click on change icon ) - in the right hand window - you can see the create / copy icon.
    3.click on create icon
4.select option - classic Kanban or event driven kanban
    5.enter material/ plant/ supply area.
6.enter no of kanban / qty.
7.In replenishment strategy - select appropiate option ( in our case it is stock transfer)
8.enter - the tab will change from replenishment strategy to stock transfer.
    9.enter storage location.
    10.enter destination- storage type- bin
11.enter if any additional data required to enter.
    12. save- control cycle will get generated.
    thanks

  • Control cycle for production staging SAP WM

We currently have control cycle for kanban purchase orders. Do I need to create new control cycle production staging. Actually I will be using fixed bin for production consumption. Kindly confirm whether existing control cycle of purchase order can be used.

Material Staging Indicator for Production Supply
The material staging indicator defines the method of how needed materials can be supplied for production with the assistance of the Warehouse Management system.
As with the location coordinates (warehouse number, storage type, and storage bin), the system files this indicator in the control cycle.
The following staging types are supported:
    "1": Pick parts
These materials are picked according to the required quantity specified in the production order.
    "2": Crate or kanban parts
These materials are always removed from the warehouse in full cases. These can be ordered, for example, as soon as a case of needed parts is emptied in production.
    "3": Release order parts
Release order parts are scheduled individually and the quantities are supplied manually to replenishment storage bins based on the requirements of production orders and the stock levels in the scheduled production supply areas.
    "4": Manual staging
Materials are staged manually. For example, you can transport individual components using manually created transfer orders, or you can use the bypass method to transport them directly from the goods receipt zone to production. In goods receipt posting, postings are made to the production storage bins from the control cycles.
    "0": Not relevant to WM-PP
These materials are not relevant to WM staging. They cannot be requested using the WM system.

  • PP Kanban control cycle

    Hi team,
I was referring the below statement to understand the control cycle.
The Kanban Control Cycle business object is used to control the flow of information and material between the demand source and the supply source in a pull environment. It controls the material quantities in production. It defines a loop between demand source and the supply source for recurring replenishment.
In the above statement, it is mentioned that, it is linking the demand source and supply source. In SAP, how we are linking the the demand source and supply source?
While creating the supply area in PK05, we are providing the storage location. Is this supply source or demand source?
In SAP, where we are assigning the another source (supply / demand source)?
    Regards
    psk

    Hello Mario,
Thank you very much for your detailed explanation on storage bin and container.
    1. So, if the storage location is not WM managed, there will not be any storage bin. The storage location itself will act as a storage bin. Am i right?
You said that, Containers are the physical means in which materials are kept in this process. a container usually equals a KANBAN. Normally there are at least two (but can be more) containers in a control cycle.
    2. We are using pallets to replanish the supply area storage locations (production store which is near to work center). So in this example, the pallets are called as "containers". Am i right?
    Consider the below example:
    3. In control cycle i have maintained the number of kanban as 4. As you said above, i need to maintain 4 containers. But i have only one field to maintain the container. How to maintain 4 containers in one field?
    Thank you.

  • Control cycle

    Gurus,
What is the purpose of control cycle. Is it mandatory, for picking material for Production order.
<<Locked - reason: failed to search before posting question>>
Edited by: Csaba Szommer on Feb 8, 2011 1:30 PM

Control cycle is maintained for WM staging of components for Process or Production orders.
By maintaining control cyccle, you assign a staging indicator for material, plant and Supply area combination which will detrmine how the  Material Staging is done for Production Supply (LPK1)

  • Control cycle mass creation with staging indicator 4

    Hi All,
Is there any way to create control cycles in mass for staging indicator other than 3 - rel order parts?

You can define a generic control cycle for manual staging parts and it will be valid for parts w/o control cycle. Please read SAP online help:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/c6/f841494afa11d182b90000e829fbfe/frameset.htm
For manual staging, you can define one control cycle per production supply area for all materials. This control cycle is then valid for all the materials in the production supply area, for which you have not defined an individual control cycle.
If you want other mass cration / change tool, you have to develop it on your own.

  • SNC Kanban Issue - Control Cycle Master Data

    Hi,
We are testing the SNC Kanban scenario with contracts (PO) between ECC & SNC.
We have created a control cycle for the ECC material and have sent the Master Data to SNC. We are now trying to send over the control cycle info to SNC and are getting hte following message when we run KANBAN_MD_TRANSMIT:
"Kanban control cycle 70666: No address data available; processing terminated"
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    regards.

    Hi Anjan Bellur
As per the error message, the address details for your supply area are not maintained
Kindly go to the transaction PK05 in r/3 system
For your plant and Production supply area, Shift+F5
    Maintain the address details
Then the reported error message will not appear

  • Control cycle for KANBAN.

I want to cosume componenets using my KANBAN BINS.
I maintained my supplying areas.  and when coming to the control cycle. Do I have to maintain control cycle for each component that I use in maufacturing against each supply area?  or is it only for FERTS

    Hi,
    1. When you tell consume compoenents means you are talking about Goods issue.
    2. Kanban needs to be done for a Inhouse prodcued material or externall procured material
    3. In both cases it does a Goods receipt and relevant goods issue posting.
    4. so if you only need to do consumption it is not possible.
    5. Genearlly it can be maitained for the FERT or halbs which has  bom, routing releavent master data
6.For the inhouse manufacture kanban below is the highlevel step
    7. and wehen you do status cahnges like full to empty a planned order or prod order will be created.
    8. when you change status empty to ful then GR will be posted and GI will be done immediatelly ( based on the control cycle)
    9. Kindly refer the attached link for further details.

  • Production supply area (PSA)

    Hello,
I would like to know how to define the production supply area in the material master record. It would be of much help and precise if anyone could mention the view in material master in which the Production supply areas could be assigned for a material.
    Thanks,
    Maxx.

If you set this up on material master, it will always stage material to this area. You can achieve the same by maintaining a control cycle. With control cycle and leaving this field blank on material master, you can map it to the level of storage bin for production staging.

  • Supply area in kanban

    Hi All
i want to change a supply area for the exsiting kanban control cycle. I tried to change the supply area which is having the different storage location, but system is not allowing me to change it. Please suggest me if there is any other way to change supply area in the kanban control cycle rather deleting it.
    Your help is highly appreciated.
    Quantum.

    Hi
Steps in SAP: (Discrete Manufacturing - Classic kanban)
    1) Maintain Supply Area T code:PK05
    2) Create Material Master with all relevant Kanban Data Eg: JIT Delivery schedule, Supply area
    T code: MM01
Create BOM,Routing,Work Centre for which are all required to carry out Discrete manufacturing cycle- CS01,CR01,CA01
    3) Create Control Cycle: T code: PKMC
4)Go to Demand Kanban Board T code: PK 13 N
5)Convert Waiting Kanban to Empty (Using Kanban Board/ T code:PK21)
    6) Do the confirmation & Goods Receipt for order/ Convert Empty Kanban to Full (Using Kanban Board/ T code:PK21)
Similarly you can try other Kanban procedures like u2013
KANBAN with Quantity Signal , One-Card KANBAN, Event-Driven KANBAN Input: (For Classic Kanban)
    Input: (For Classic Kanban)
    Expected Results
    1. Maintain Supply Area T code:PK05 :- supply are will be created
    2. Create Material Master with all relevant Kanban Data Eg: JIT Delivery schedule, Supply area
T code: MM01 :- Proper Master Data will be created
    3. Create BOM,Routing,Work Centre for which are all required to carry out Discrete manufacturing cycle- CS01,CR01,CA01 :-
    4. Create Control Cycle: T code: PKMC :- Control Cycle/material will be created
    5. Go to Demand Kanban Board T code: PK 13 N :- Display of Kanban Control Cycles with Kanban
    6. Convert Waiting Kanban to Empty : - Production order will be generated
    7. Do the confirmation & Goods Receipt for order/ Convert Empty Kanban to Full :-
Kanban signal changes from Empty (Red) to Full (Green)
    Thanks

  • Production supply area w/Min Max

    Hello,
I have a WM scenario that i want to prototype, and i would like to know the steps involved in this WM scenario.
    The scenario is :
Production Area Supply w/ Min Max
Illustrate the material replenishment to the PSA based on min/max levels for raw materials and intermediates; Min level based on requirements for 2 production runs, Max level based on requirements for 3 production runs.
the material for the replenishment is taken from the storage types.
pl. do mention the steps or how to carry out the scenario with the t codes involved in it.
    Thanks,
    Maxx

I suggest you checking system by two ways:
    1) Set PSA to work center, now it works? If so please check BOM settings carefully.
    2) Don't use dynamic production bin, just try a physical bin. If it works please check control cycle settings.
Note: You create the dynamic storage bin "production order" in the control cycle for pick parts. The system then stages all the materials for a specific production order in a dynamic storage bin with this production order number.
When you system emit errors again please use LS24 to check if having a dynamic bin with a production order number.

  • Production supply area (PSA) and supply area

    Hi,
Is there any difference between supply area and Production supply area. it woul be good if you could explain me the difference.
    Thanks,
    Maxx

    Both are same
Production Supply Area is the link between Warehosue Management and Production function.
Production supply areas (PSAs) are used for material replenishment and are situated directly on the shop floor in the production department. The supply area groups work centers near production storage bins based on the material staging methods. You need to enter the PSA in the work center master data.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_46c/helpdata/en/c6/f8412f4afa11d182b90000e829fbfe/frameset.htm
    Hope this helps.
An area on the shop floor where material is provided that can be directly used for production.
The supply area is used, for example, in KANBAN production control and for material staging using Warehouse Management (WM).
Proposed Supply Area in Material Master Record
The supply area is used as an interim storage area on the shop floor
which is used to provide materials directly at the production line.
The proposed supply area is mainly used for KANBAN materials that are
only or usually provided at one supply area in a plant. Here, this supply
area can be easily saved in the system.
The proposed supply area is used, for example, to determine the supply
area for the dependent requirements of a material.
The supply area in the dependent requirements of a material is required:
o  to enable the system to calculate the KANBAN control cycles
            automatically
o  to enable you to select requirements in the pull list with reference
            to a supply area

  • Routing and Control Cycle

    hi........
Is there any link or connection between Routing and Control Cycle?...........if there is connection then what are the parameter that are interlinked?.......
    thanks in advance
    regards
    Nilesh

It is correct that there are 2 ways of creating control cycles for materials.
One is thru Kanban way and the other is regular WM way of control cycles. Here for WM control cycles again, it is just the way of driving materials to particular supply area while in kanban, the control cycle is driven with kanban signals.
If you want to define Kanban, you need to identify first what way you would want the replenishment to occur.
There are two options, classic and even driven Kanban replenishment. In the former one, the replenishment is triggered thru kanban signal in kanban board and replenishment quantity is equal to what is mentioned in control cycle.
In a event driven kanban, replenishment is triggered the same way but the quanity of replenishment can differ.
    Classic KANBAN:
Quantity of material (target quantity) that is specified for a kanban.
    Event-driven KANBAN:
Proposed value for the quantity of material in a kanban that is used by the system when no order quantity is entered at a kanban signal.
