Polycom vsx 800 timeout on pix
Hi,
Have a polycom vsx 8000 behind a pix firewall running 7.2 the quality is fine, but after 60 minutes (exactly) the call will drop. We are using dynamic ports on the polycom. Does anyone have an idea on what we can do to extend the call length?
Thanks for your help.

Polycom VSX and HDX call ends 60 minutes NO firewall
Hey Guys,
I have an HDX 6000 along with multiple other VC units in my local office registered to a Polycom Readimanager. At a remote office over an MPLS connection I have a Polycom VSX 7000. Whenever I make a call to this remote location over the MPLS the call drops exactly after 60 minutes. Calls on the local LAN have no such issue. There is NOT a firewall between the devices which is what the problem usually would be. I have the call durations set to 0 for all video endpoints which should mean unlimited call lengths. My local MPLS router is a Cisco 3945 ver 15.1(3)T2 and the remote MPLS router is a Cisco 2951 router ver 15.1(3)T2. Any possible ideas? There was a discussion of this issue on the VTCTALK form at http://www.vtctalk.com//showthread.php?t=11450.

CME 3.3 on 2811 with Polycom VSX 7000
All -
I have a polycom VSX7000 without the integrated MCU.
I also have a 2811 running CME 3.3 with about 20 IP phones attached.
I'd like to come up with a solution so that my IP phone users could participate in a video conference as audio-only users.
Is there any chance that transcoding on the 2811 using spare PVDM2 resources could do this?
I've already gotten an IP phone to call the VSX7K using an H.323 dialpeer, but as soon as the call is answered - it disconnects - presumably due to a codec mis-match.
The IPVC products seem to be overkill for my needs (and budget).
Suggestions?I do not have an MCU or bridge in the network. The other video endpoints that may be involved are IP devices external to the network.
Our original design intent is that we are a single endpoint and would not have bandwidth available to support multiple external connections. The places to where we would connect on a video conference are larger, fixed sites more able to provide bridging services.
Then came the idea of supporting audio-only access of our local IP phones to the conference.
I'll definitely try the codec command on the H.323 dial peer.
I think I mentioned that the call would signal each end, but would fail to connect once the user tried to answer. -
Connecting VT Advantage to Polycom MCU
I'm trying to get VTA(s)to connect to a polycom MCU.
I can call other Polycom VSX / PVX units with no problems, only the MCU is giving issues. I get to a mulit screen display wih VTA but then the MCU complains about a Video Sync Loss and neither end can see VTA Video. Though VTA cleints see polycom endpoints in the confrence
I've got a Polycom Gatekeelper and the hole mess integrated into call manager 4.1(3)
I'm tried limiting the codec of the meeting room to H.263 with no luck.
Funny thing is I have a Polycom VSX with a "soft" MCU software on it and it can run VTA clients i split screen OK.
anybody have any experiece with this is so please reply.FYI - I resolved my own issue. There was a variable that had to be set on the Polycom MCU and the Polycom MCU needed to be set for Auto layout.
I'm still in process of figuring out what "breaks" the VTA and the polycom MCU -
SX20 has no video but c40 does
We have a remote office. Recently, when calling this office with the SX20, its connecting with audio only. This had previously worked before but we dont know whats changed. Calling the same remote office from a C40 in the same office as the SX20 works fine.
We have called some test numbers with the SX20 and that works fine too.
below are log extracts showing the call set up for a bad call and a good call. , iv'e replaced sensitive data with xxxx's
Does anyone have an idea of whats causing this from tyeh logs or what can generally be the issue?
thx,
happyhammer

there are no VCS/MCU or gatekeepers involved. Just using H323 to make direct external calls using ip address.
The other end is a either a Polycom VSX 7000 or HDX 7000.
Should have said we have two SX20 and two C40's and both the SX20's connect with audio only whereas the C40's connect correctly with audio and video. Obviously something has changed since they were working before. Its unlikely that a configuration change has been made on the local SX20 ( would any config changes be in a log file?), so i dont know if the remote endpoint has changed anything ( ie, would changing something like the h323 id or e164 possiby cause an issue on an SX20 but not on a C40).
So i was hoping someone might know if the SX20 behaves differently to the C40 in someway that might cause this or does the log file show the reason why no video is being sent/received? -
Mac Book Pro Won't Upload Photos
I am having trouble uploading photos to iPhoto on my MBP.
I am using an old-ish Sandisk card reader (SDDR-86) to try to upload photos from a Sandisk Extreeme III 8 gig card. The reader works perfectly on my equally new iMac 24" through a USB bus.
Not so with the MBP. Sometimes the card mounts, sometimes it doesn't. When it does mount, you can't dismount it without disconnecting the reader or shutting down.
When I launch iPhoto 09, it tries to start loading photos, but stops after about 12 of the 800 or so pix I have on the card. You cannot launch any of the pix that do have thumbs. If I click on upload all, I get an error message that says the files are not in a recognized format. They are all "DSC_xxx.jpg."
If I try to download the contents of the CF to my hard drive, it tells me I don't have permission.
This feels like a MBP problem (since I can do everything on my iMac) and I posted on the MBP forum, but nobody has any answers. So I thought I'd try here.
Any ideas? The only trouble with that is that I would like something that will work with my MBP when I am not near power. I do understand that powered USB peripherals sometimes work better without having to depend on USB power, but having to plug it in kind of defeats the mobility benefits of using a portable computer.
I'm hoping that just upgrading to a reader that is newer than 8 years old will solve the mobility problem. If not, there's a Radio Shack right around the corner . . . . -
Hello,
I just bought QuickTime 7 Pro because it allows you to save streamed video. We have a live camera feed to the web of our meeting room and I want to be able to save the stream as a QuickTime Movie. I right click the movie on my web browser and choose "Save as QuickTime Movie" and it only saves the link to the stream. I could have sworn I read that it would save the ACTUAL stream, not just the link. For reference sake I am using a Polycom VSX 8000 to broadcast the streaming video to our subnet only.
Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks.Streaming media isn't cached so there is nothing to save but a link to the stream.
Screen recording software can capture the audio and save it in various formats but you run the risk of copyright violations. Since you say the file is your own obviously this doesn't apply but I mention it for others. -
ACE - TCP 60 minute idle timer?
Hi Gilles,
is there a tcp idle timeout with exact 60 minutes within ACE Software for NON LB connections?
I have a certain TCP Connection from a FrontendServer to a certain Backend Server which gets a TCP RST every 60 minutes.
The application guys blame the network for this tcp reset. In my opinion all the timing values which are e.g. set in a connection map are only for the Ports designated within the corresponding loadbalancing rules.
So if i am not wrong any other connection traversing the ACE module should be treated as "simple" connection over any other layer 2/3 switch in a network with the exception that the ace is in charge for the routing of this network.
As i am not hundert percent sure that there isn't a timer comparable to the xlate timeout on PIX or ASA for idle sessions i thought maybe you have an idea.
Have a look at the attached textfile.
Thanks for reading
RobleHi,
good information, but i have a doubt.
I have an existing policy L3/L4 multi-match like the one below.
I would like to increase the inactivity timeout on every TCP connections. Can i nest the new class map (match all) to my policy-map, as shown below in bold?
This can create problems for the existing policy?
Can you confirm me that i can apply only one L3L4 policy map to the interface Vlan?
In necessary to remove and apply the policy to see the effect of the new timeout?
Thanks in advance
Best Regards

E164 dialling through Cisco Call Manager and its Gate Keeper
Hello,
one of our customers has succesfully setup a few Polycom VSX Endpoints and they are registered to a Gatekeeper.
Calls can be made manually in both directions but if a IP Communicator/IP Phone calls a VSX the recent call list will only include the IP Address of the Gatekeeper and not the E.164 Number so calls cannot be returned.
Is there a way to configure this ?
I am unaware of the Version of the CCM.
Regards
Steffconfiguration has two gatekeeper zones. An internal gatekeeper
zone and an external gatekeeper zone.
Devices registered to the internal zone can call devices on the external
Calls through H.323 address but not by e164 alias. However the devices on external zone
Can call devices on internal zone through e164 alias.
Call Manager is not involved in this problem. -
Can any one tell me what is the size or dimension I have to use to run a android air project.
I know there is like a 800 X 400 pix. for it.
but with the new phones it might have changed to 1920 X 1080You must download the latest AIR SDK:
Download Adobe AIR SDK
Extract the contents of the .zip file somewhere. After that go into Flash's Help menu and use the "Manage AIR SDK" option. Browse to the location you extracted AIR to and choose that folder. Now you will have a publish target for whatever version you download.
You should continuously check the AIR SDK release notes to see when it was last updated. If you notice a newer point release is out, you should always update.
Adobe AIR Help | Release Notes
For example I just noticed they put out a new version yesterday, Nov 25th, so I need to update myself hehe.
Sorry for the late replies. We all get busy during the holidays!
Note: Every time you update your AIR you should pay attention to the version it is and update your apps XML to reflect that. Right at the top, the namespace in the XML contains the version of AIR SDK used. At the time of this post you should be setting it to 15.0 from whatever it currently is. Flash will let you know that with an error message if you try to export anyhow. -
How to communicate in H.263pp HD
Hi all,
One of our customers has Polycom VSX5000(Ver8.0.3) and SX20(TC7.1.4).
In default setting, VSX5000 could not display from SX20 any video so we disable sending H.264 on SX20
(xConfiguration Experimental CapsetFilter: "H.264RCDO;H.264NIL;H.264" )
Now they can send/receive video/audio without problem.
But when the SX20 calls other Cisco E/P(e.g. C40) , it uses H.263pp with poor resolution 512x288 even though we call at 1980kbps.
Is there any way to send/receive better video (HD or higher) in H.263pp?
Regards,
KotaroI'd strongly recommend that your customer upgrade their Polycom to version 9 (and preferably to the lastest 9.0.6.2) of the Polycom VSX software. We've had many issues previously talking to the older polycoms, but the majority of these were resolved folllowing an upgrade to at least 9.0.5.
Many of the Cisco compatibility documents also recommend these versions as the minimums required to be compatible.
Doing so will stop the need for you to dumb down your SX20 with the CapsetFilter and you'll then be able to talk to all your other deivces without an issue too. The CapsetFilter should only be used for troubleshooting and as a last resort fix.
Another option, if your customer has one, is to use a bridge/MCU to dumb down the communications with the polycom when calling it, and not use the bridge when calling between the other devices. We've done this for one external site we can't get to upgrade - whenever we want to call this, we call the bridge and get the bridge to dial out to that endpoint with a reduced set of codecs (no H.264).
Wayne

Pixel/compression trade off
Picture qulaity appears to be a trade off between the number of pixels you have & the amount of compression that is applied when saving a JPEG .
Is there any gide or rule of thumb that you can provide that will tell which is best for your needs? For instance will a 10MP picture with high commpression be than an 8MP picture with low compression? What about 6MB etc? Is there a chart?
Any comments will be apprecieated. The Old Fart wrote:

I'll add a few personal thoughts to the advice already given.
- First, nearly all digital cameras use Bayer pattern sensors : there are theoretical reasons you can downsize to about 70% without losing significant detail...
- In many cases, you know the kind of output you want for a particular purpose : printing 4' x 6' or A4 format, displaying on high res displays (1900 x 1080 px) or saving for web (800 x 600 pix for instance). Then the first thing you can do before thinking about jpeg compression is to downsize to the adequate printing size. It's generally good enough not to output to more than 300 dpi or downsizing to the pixel dimension needed for display.
- There are several downisizing method : you might prefer bicubic or bicubic sharper. Some prefer more advanced method (Lanczos, available in Faststone Photo Resizer)
Now for jpeg compression :
- The level of detail depends very much on the noise level : you are losing details with noise anyway, so the denoising will be a compromise between detail and noise, and that will be important for the jpeg file size.
- The final size of an image depends highly on the level of detail of the scene and on the noise as stated above. For the same pixel dimensions, your file size may vary from 50% to 100% depending on detail and colors. If your purpose is to save with important compression, 'save for web' is your friend. If you only want to print without visible quality loss, use higher compression settings : for instance try the difference between 12 and 10 : you might gain 50% size without visible quality loss. -
Hello Everyone,

Suggested timeout config on pix for aaa cmds passing through
Our tacacs sits on the other side of a pix firewall. As a result we are causing alot of xlate transactions on the pix as we enter commands on our devices.
What are the suggested timeout values?
Our conn count is max 2700
timeout xlate 3:00:00 (default)
timeout conn 1:00:00 half-closed 0:10:00 udp 0:02:00 rpc 0:10:00 h225 1:00:00
timeout h323 0:05:00 mgcp 0:05:00 sip 0:30:00 sip_media 0:02:00
timeout uauth 0:05:00 absoluteAre you seeing xlates for your sessions? Are they going through the firewall or to the firewall? When you manage the firewall itself there are no xlates. The management of the firewalls are all TCP based so you should only see one xlate for management beyond the firewall (per person/per device). The default timeouts are fine unless there is a specific application that requires a longer one.
Hope that helps. -
PPTP through PIX timeout?
We have a customer that has internal clients connecting to an outside PPTP server through a PIX firewall.
PPTP setup works fine, but after 3 minutes the PPTP connection goes down. We are sure the PIX is the problem.
The PIX is configured for PAT, because the customer has only 1 public IP adres. Fixup PPTP 1723 is configured.
Does anyone know why this happens and how we can fix this?Hi all.
We have same problem.
Throgh PIX pptp sessions end after few minutes... while through other connections (other firewall, direct connection to internet and so on...) remain up properly...
We have pix 7.0(2) release (we can't upgrade to 7.0(4) because with this release pptp sessions don't work at all....
Thanks
