Poor trackpad response

Over the past week or two my trackpad has become almost completely non-responsive. To scroll through a list I have to constantly swipe across it and then it will scroll one or two items at a time, if at all. I've played with the sensitivity settings but that has little if any effect. I saw another post that indicated a piece of tissue between your finger and the trackpad will "fix" it. It does, and if I have a bandaid on (for what it's worth a cloth one not a plastic one) the trackpad performs beautifully. Excellent response and very precise control. Obviously neither is an acceptable solution.
I don't know if this is related or not, but at the same time, the BlackBerry button (to the left of the trackpad) has been troublesome as well. I have to click it several times to get the menu to pop up.
Any suggestions? Is this just a wear and tear issue and I need to get a new phone?

If that's the case, you should return the phone to your carrier for a replacement. This is assuming that it's newer than one year old. If you choose to do so, make sure you do a data backup with BlackBerry Desktop Software first. If it's older than one year, wearing cloth bandages might be the answer.
Please keep us posted.

  • Trackpad response it excessively slow

Suddenly, over night, it takes close to fifteen minutes for my G4 to boot. Then, whenever I click anything--browser, application, whatever--I get what I call the daisy wheel, that multicolored little whirly gig. It stays there forever, it seems, but when the application comes up, I can do nothing with it. I use Opera. It will not respond. I go to desktop. Nothing responds. I can't even get into preferences or my to see if I can figure out what is wronge. I cannot get email because when I click on, it does not respond. I get the daisy wheel anytime I click. In short, my G4 is inoperative.
Anyone out there have a suggestion? I'm totally confused.

    Hi, asodesume -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
You might get a better hardware-specific response if you repost your issue in the appropriate PowerBook forum; you can access those here -
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=120
The top area of that page includes links to the various PowerBook forums, grouped by model series. Pick the most appropriate and once you enter that forum you can post a new topic.
One thing to try in the meantime, to help determine whether the cause may be hardware or software based - boot the machine to an OS Install disk, either OS 9 (if applicable) or OSX. If the trackpad/pointer behaves as it should, that would indicate the fault is software-based; if the trackpad/pointer continues to misbehave, then it would indicate the fault lies with the hardware.

  • Trackpad response is failing .. why?

    Hello everybody.
I'm sure this problem has come up and again but unfortunately I couldn't find a solution after looking around for 3 days.
My trackpad's response rate has turned terrible. I don't know what happened but I feel like it was because of an update.
I move my finger on the track pad and the mouse on the screen either goes too fast, or too slow, or stutters across the screen. Sometimes my multi-finger functions don't work. This is annoying. Help please!!

I've gotten this exact problem in the last week or two. Sometimes the trackpad is fine, other times it's like treacle, or staccato jumps across the screen. Sometimes I'll have one finger on the trackpad and the window I'm in will respond like I'm two-finger scrolling.
The oddest thing is how inconsistent it is. If it was a hardware problem, I'd expect it to just fail hard, but it works fine sometimes.
I can't remember what the last update I did was, could have been quite recently I've just been mad busy lately. Sorry, I have no solutions; I'm going to have to start using a mouse

  • Poor Screen Response

I love the iPad, but the screen is driving me nuts. I find that the screen is MUCH less responsive than the iPhone.
Far too often I have to tap an app icon upwards of 5 times just to get the device to recognize that it has been tapped.
This also extends to entering a text field, selecting icons in an app's menu bar, even the keyboard.
    VERY disappointing!!!

Return you ipad it is defective!
Ipad should be waaay faster compared to iphone and screen should respond well !
    Again... RETURN YOUR IPAD

  • Intermittent Trackpad response

Has anyone experienced problems with the trackpad failing to respond for several seconds after a save, edit or window change? I can't quite characterize it yet as a function of any particular s/w or function but it is really driving me crazy. You never know when it will stop responding for maybe 10 sec's then return.

    Hi All
Even with today's "Apple Keyboard Update 1.0", they didn't update the Trackpad driver, which is a huge problem for me.
Under XP, using BootCamp, I have no problem at all, of any kind, with the trackpad.
Under Mac OS X, 10.4.6, with every available update, and with today's update, the driver com.apple.driver.AppleUSBTrackpad is still at Version 1.4.1a1.
Alpha 1? Are you kidding me?
The symptoms of the issue are just like at MacInTouch.com, viz:
Every few minutes, the trackpad goes nuts. This lasts about a few minutes.
What happens is that only a 1cm wide vertical strip, 3/4s of the way to the right of the trackpad, works. The rest of the trackpad does nothing. At all.
When you get your finger inside this 1cm strip, the trackpad works, but as if it's on super-hyper-sensitivity mode: resting your finger on it results in an oscillating, twitching, mouse cursor. Move up/down, still ultra jittery. Move left and right (which is very hard, remember: this is a 1cm strip!) and it's ultra jitter mode.
Then it all goes good, all of a sudden.
I've tried every combo of settings in the trackpad panel, to no avail.
So I bought the top of the line, every single option, retail price (!!) laptop, to have a trackpad that is worse than a $2 mouse I can get at the 7-Eleven.
    Bah!

  • Poor scroll response

After upgrading to RH8, I have encountered problems related
    to using the mouse.
When I scroll with the mouse wheel in a topic window, pod,
etc., RH8 does not respond well at all. It seems to only respond to
one click of the wheel. If I scroll multiple clicks, response is
very, very slow, and it seems the display only moves by one line.
When I double-click an item in a list (topic name, contents
entry, etc.), I have to double-click very slowly and be very
precise. It seems that the least bit of movement of the mouse after
the double-click causes the action to be ignored.
I have a Logitech MX 1100, cordless, laser mouse. The latest
drivers are installed. There is no helpful information on the
    Logitech Web site.
I did not have these problems prior to the upgrade.
I do not have these problems in any other program, in my
broswer, etc. The problem only presents in RH8.
I have searched all available resources. Has anyone
experienced this problem? Does anyone have a solution.

  • New Alpine - poor bass response

I am hoping someone out there has a recommendation. I haven't been satisfied with the answers I have gotten from either the local Best Buy store or Crutchfield, whom everyone seems to rave about.
Thinking it would be a permanent solution I replaced the stock - and mediocre - stereo in my 95 Nissan pickup with an Alpine CDA-9883 deck and Sony xplod 4 way poly cone 6.5s (rear) and 5.25s (front) (XS1342 I think). Installation was basically a snap.
I noticed the difference in the high end immediately - very clear - but I was quite underwhelmed by the low end, which I have since compared with the stock stereos in both our 2001 Toyota Rav4 and 2000 Ford Taurus. Both of the latter sound warmer and have much rounder tones at the low end even with the treble set flat. I was not expecting the shake the neighborhood but I don't understand why the Toyota and Ford factory stereos should outperform an Alpine!
I have experimented with the bass bandwidth and center frequency settings and found little audible difference between them.
I find it hard to believe that the deck is the problem but can the speakers really be that bad? The salesman at Best Buy, where I bought the deck, suggested that the polycarbonate speakers often underperform even cheap paper cones and that the best solution would be a silk cone speaker. Crutchfield suggested a Blaupunkt self-powered sub, but I wasn't really planning to drop another $200 and, though that would be a nice addition, I don't think its necessary to get the performance I was looking for. They also never were able to address why the system sounded weaker at the low end than the two factory stereos. The system has plenty of power. Its only 18 watts RMS but its a VERY STRONG 18 watts.
So question 1 - Any idea why the system I described would be beat out by acceptable but average factory stereos?
Question 2 - Assuming I need to add to the system would a decent 6.5 in the rear do the job or should I start saving for that sub? Remember that its a small truck so not much power should be necessary.
Thanks for any advice or suggestions!

    1. I think the term "beat out" isn't what happened. You have to look at what you replaced. Most factory systems are designed with the cheapest materials possible (i.e. paper cone, foam surround). Looking at those speakers, they are considered "one way" because just the cone is the speaker. So, why do factory speakers give you more bass. To be honest, I don't know the real reason but I can tell you in my experience it tends to be because of the design of the speaker. It is a full cone, with no cutout for a tweeter. Again, in my experience, that tends to give the speaker a better bass response.
Now, look at the speakers you replaced them with. You probably have 2 to 3-way speakers with a tweeter in the center. That alone accounts for you lack of bass. Most aftermarket manufacturers design their speakers to work with a full aftermarket system, amps and woofers included. So the speakers inside the car are designed for mids and highs, with little emphasis on the low end, the speakers just can't reproduce it as deisgned, or not very well at the least.Even if you amplify the speakers and push them to their max, I don't think you will get what you are looking for.
    2. Going off answer 1, yes a sub will solve your problem, not a pair of 6.5"s. Being that it is a truck, there are plenty of applications out there to fit even something as small as an 8" (10" if you're shopping at BB).
When I advise someone about speaker replacement, the first thing I tell them is they are going to lose some bass. It's just a matter of fact. What's nice about a car stereo system is you can piece it out, meaning you can do it a step at a time and get to a point where you are happy. That could be just a new head unit up to a full system and all the combinations inbetween.
Hope that helps. Good luck with your sound.

  • Intermittant poor mouse response indicates interloper?

I have an apple wireless mouse and the tracking response is great most of the time.
I have noticed though that sometimes when I'm on the internet ... or just using an app like my email client, or itunes, or my finance program .... tracking response becomes sluggish.
I don't think this is a mouse problem ... something seems to be getting higher priority in the CPU. But ...
When this happens, the Activity Monitor continuously shows process loads are below 5% total.
Does the Activity monitor really show ALL processes?
Are there known security threats that are able to shield themselves from scrutiny by the Activity monitor? ... it is true that when I fire up the Activity Monitor the mouse appears to track normally again.
It's kinda hard to believe a MacPro could be so process bound by vanilla apps it cannot service the mouse in real time ... especially when Activity Monitor says everybody's behaving.
So naturally I'm a little paranoid.
I'm pretty careful about what I let in the door with my admin privileges, but hey, some of those bad guys are pretty clever.
Any thoughts about how I might track this down?

The activity Monitor does show all processes but you may want to switch to view something like Hierarchical Processes or one of the other options. All means ALL and that is a lot so something may slip by without you noticing.
A way that might help you track down anything untoward is the use of the Console or System logs. Note the times that the activity slows the mouse and then look at the logs. There IS a lot of information there, so it may take quite a time to sift through.
Another point: what other applications are open? I seem to remember a while back that MS Office would cause some mouse problems. Also, does this behaviour manifest iteself with a non-wireless mouse; and have you tried to work in another user account? All may help narrow the problem down.

  • Intermittent low volume and poor frequency response

I have a 10 month old 30 Gig video IPOD that drops the volume level and loses all its low frequency response at times and then will recover after a while. This happens on a song or songs that I know are properly leveled and that work sometimes and not at other times. The issue seems to be much more prevalent when IPOD is cold or cool. After it has been operating for an hour or so the problem seems to go away. It is very common when first turned on. I am getting ready to return it while it is still under warranty but thought maybe someone has an easy fix.

    Returned for warranty repair.

  • Poor trackpad button quality

When I used my Air today, I noticed that the trackpad button seemed raised. It was like you could lightly push down on it and it would "click", but not actually click. If you pushed harder, then it would actually hit the button and click. Anyone else had this issue? This is my second Air with the same problem. My first was exchanged due to several problems, and now I get one of the same issues. This is a bit disappointing. Now I really wish I took their offer of exchanging for a Macbook Pro.

    Darren,
My button has the same issue. It also has scratched part of the screen bezel because it is raised so high. Does your button seem to click louder in the center than on the sides?

  • Poor bass response on Touareg sound system

I have an iPhone that is connected to my Touareg's 2004 headunit, with Navigation, using the Harmon-Kardon DS-1 adapter. I connect using the AUX input. I just can't get any bass response through the sound system and my treble is all the way down and the mid and bass are all the way up. I've been told that the problem I"m experiencing is due to the input impedance on the Touareg's aux input. I connect to it through the multi-pin connection on the bottom of the iPhone and not the earphone output. Any ideas?

I'd suggest a headphone amplifier, such as the ones sold here:

  • Keyboard nor trackpad response

    Hey,
I purchased my aluminum MacBook in February and from them I'VE been having issues with both my track pad and keyboard. Every once in a while I will get no response from my keyboard, for about a minute or two (no matter what key is pressed, nothing will show on the screen as being pressed). As well i will get no response from the track pad for a few minutes every now and then.
    What should I do?

  • Poor service response times

My entire system has crashed, no tv, no telephone and no internet! The power supply for the fios equipment has failed, and I have to wait two days for a service call that will only take 5 minutes to fix! **bleep**! Thank God my commitment is over and my Direct Tv dish is still up! Thanks for nothing! !!

    That the hallmark of Verizon.
A Verizon service tech came out to my neighborhood on a Saturday afternoon and was working on the main fiber distro box and UNPLUGED my line when he was doing what ever it was he was supposed to be doing (he should have messed with me at all).  I know this because I was walking my dogs and walked past him as he was opening the box and playing with the mess of yellow fiber lines, unpluging and pluging back in (which he shouldn't have been doing at all).
He left at about 4pm and I discovered the loss of service about 15-30 minutes later.  NO PHONE, NO TV, NO INTERNET!
I was on my cell phone on hold for 30 minutes before getting a tech wasted about an hour going through their "standard troubleshooting checklist" having me unplug the battery to reset the box etc... finally he realized what I was saying that the service tech effected my fiber connection/service, but couldn't get the tech back out since he had gone home!!!!!
The earliest they could schedule a tech to come out and fix it was late Monday evening to reconnect my service at the distro box.  The tech asked where my ONT box was at and I gave him detailed information about where it was at and how to get to it, since he said he had no idea when the tech would be out and they they wouldn't need to enter the house.  I wasn't happy spending the weekend with no TV, no Phone, no Internet, but really didn't have a choice.
Monday comes and I get a text message saying the tech came and left because no one was at home (my roommate was at home but the tech didn't ring the doorbell to get his attention upstairs).  He didn't even check the connection at the distro box (which was the only problem) and was clearly written up in the tech order.  I call VZ from my cell phone and was on hold for almost an hour before I finally got to talk to a human who proceeded to tell me I should have been home and it was my fault. and that I'd have to wait until Thursday before they could get a tech out.
I lost it and demanded to speak to his supervisor and waited another 45 minutes before the supervisor finally got on the phone with me and after 15 minute discussion he was able to get a tech scheduled to come out the next day (Tuesday).
The tech came out and spent a whole 10 minutes on site and all he did was plug the fiber for my house back into the distro panel.
Oh and VZ made me call separately to customer service to get a billing adjustment for the days I didn't have FIOS service and it was like pulling teeth and all they offered was an adjustment for the 3 days of service that was interrupted.   When I got the bill I saw they only it applied it to the bare basic services and charged me full price for all the premium movie services even though they weren't available.
VZ still hasn't a clue about customer service.    They had the chance to fix it by sendng the tech back out to fix his error that night, and ending it with no issue.  But no, they dragged it out and got all typical VZ "we can't attitude" and inconvienced me for 4 days and I had to burn up several hours of my cell minutes to be on hold and fight with VZ to get them to fix their problem, and they talk to me like they are doing me a BIG favor by crediting me the prorated charge for the days they interrupted my FIOS service...
I was bragging about my FIOS service to my friends and co-workers, but after the HORRIBLE experience, I recommend everyone to stick with cable and pass on FIOS, since you can't trust the service.  If you can get Dish or DirecTV then go for it.

  • Poor screen response with IOS 8x

Since upgrading the software on my iPad 3 to 8.xx the screen has become largely unresponsive within an app.  Especially true of dragging or swiping, but generally much slower overall.  Screen autorotation is erratic.  I have tried restarts, closing all open apps, and changing screen brightness to manual.  Nothing seems to work.

    Hello ol'man,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your iPad. If you are seeing multiple issues with the touch interface after a recent update, you may want to make sure you have a current backup of your data in iTunes, then try restoring your iPad to factory settings and testing it in that default condition to see if the issues persist before restoring your data.
