Portfolio Item & Initiative - What is the difference?

Dear All,
I have a basic question.
What is the difference between Portfolio Item & Initiative?
Regards,
Bhushan

Hi,
A portfolio item is used to represent a single idea, concept or project. An initiative is typically a very large project or program or initiative which can contain multiple portfolio items. That's a high level explanation, let me know if you have anything more specific in mind.

  • What's the difference between a not-initialed object and a null object

    hi guys, i wanna know the difference between a not-initialed object and a null object.
    for eg.
    Car c1;
    Car c2 = null;after the 2 lines , 2 Car obj-referance have been created, but no Car obj.
    1.so c2 is not refering to any object, so where do we put the null?in the heap?
    2.as no c2 is not refering to any object, what's the difference between c2 and c1?
    3.and where we store the difference-information?in the heap?

    For local variables you can't have "Car c1;" the compiler will complain.That's not true. It will only complain if you try to use it without initializing it.
    You can have (never used, so compiler doesn't care):
    public void doSomething()
       Car c1;
       System.out.println("Hello");
    }or you can have (definitely initialized, so doesn't have to be initialized where declared):
    public void doSomething(boolean goldClubMember)
       Car c1;
       if (goldClubMember)
           c1 = new Car("Lexus");
       else
           c1 = new Car("Kia");
       System.out.println("You can rent a " + c1.getMake());
    }

    If a class contains no constructor declarations, then a default constructor that takes no parameters is automatically provided:

    * Otherwise, the default constructor takes no parameters and simply invokes the superclass constructor with no arguments.

  • What is the difference between Category Mgmt and Spend Analysis?

    Hi Friends
    What is the difference between Category Mgmt and Spend Analysis?
    Regards
    Chinna Krishna

    Hi Chinna
    Here are my two cents on this questions
    1. Catagory Management : It pertains to all sourcing activities that a purchasing group does for a specific catagory of items ( say tyres, bearings, etc. in automobile industry scenario OR steel sheets, electric motor, etc. in consumer durables industry scenario) in order to meet companies strategic goals like cost, quality, delivery and new product introduction. It also involves the strategic sourcing piece for that category. Typically it can include following activities for a category which is being managed
    - Identifying current and future business & technical requirements
    - Constant vigilence and analysis of supply market for that category ( and also identifying new sources)
    - Lauching various projects within category focussed on cost reduction, quality improvement, delivery improvement. This may include some of activities like supplier analysis. RFx, Reverse auctions, contract negotiation, etc.
    - Monitoring the category specific supplier performance
    Category Management team typically consists of cross functional team and it is iterative process (continuous improvement).
    Category Management in covered to some extent in E-Sourcing application and its analysis is covered in Spend Analytics application. Fully blown category management is on road map of SAP but none of the current functionalities addresses it fully.
    2. Spend Analysis: This involves analysis of the spend at highest level of organization. To improve the data quality, it typically involves spend data standardization & enrichment, supplier normalization and spend categorization. Once you have clean data, one can slice and dice the data to gain insight into the spend and identify opportunities for launching the various initiatives focussed on cost, quality and delivery.
    SAP Spend Analytics application covers this spend analysis capability.
    Its a long answer and hope it helps you.

  • What Is The Difference Between Budget Cost And Regular Cost For Resources?

    What's the difference betwee budget cost and regular cost for resources?
    Here is the explanation which I didn't understand from the book;
    In planning your departmental retreat, suppose you
    have specific budget targets
    for certain cost categories, $2,500
    for travel expenses, $500 for printing,
    and $1,000 for conference room rentals. Using Project’s budget resource
    feature, you can define your budget
    for different categories
    of items. You can then group your resources to
    com-pare your budgeted
    costs to your planned costs. This way, you
    can view your travel budget
    of $2,500 side by side with your planned
    costs of, say, $3,700,
    and immedi- ately see that your next
    goal is to find a way to trim those travel
    costs.

    Hi,
    You have to differenciate the proejct budget from the project cost:
    The project budget is the amount of money which has been allocated to your project by the executive board based on the estimation you provided. This is not meant to be changed unless you go through a change request process, justifying why you need to change
    (increase) the budget, meaning asking more money. Consequently it will not be related in MS Project with the tasks, assignments. It is entered on the project summary and can be meanly used in portfolio reports where you can consolidate yours budgets (you can
    have several different budgets) among a set of projects.
    The project cost is something which lives, changes along the project lifecycle. It is meant to be updated on a weekly or biweekly basis from the team members tasks updates approved by the project manager. Then the PM updates the remaining work thus the project
    cost.
    Hope this helps,
    Guillaume Rouyre, MBA, MVP, P-Seller |
    You say that the budget cost is total money which committee gave you for the project.
    But the book refer budget cost for every resource. I don't understand that.
    " In planning your departmental retreat, suppose you
    have specific budget targets
    for certain cost categories, $2,500
    for travel expenses, $500 for printing,
    and $1,000 for conference room rentals. Using Project’s budget resource

    costs of, say, $3,700,
    and immedi- ately see that your next
    goal is to find a way to trim those travel
    costs. "
    For example here travel budget cost is 2500 whereas planned cost is 3700. Planned cost of travel expense is created by the project manager. Who does define travel budget cost?
    Let's say an employee's cost is 20 dollars per hour and I write it on the project. So how much is this employee's budget cost, Who does define it, From whom do I learn that data?

  • What is the Difference 'VOFM' and 'User-Exit' ?

    What is the Difference 'VOFM' and 'User-Exit' ?

    If you need to implement any of these User exits, you first create a project for the user exit, then assign the user exit(s) to your project. Then you write the coding for the user exit, and finally activate the project.
    For general information about user exits, in the R/3 Library, go to Basis components and look at the Enhancements section. In addition there is detailed information about each user exit that you can access when you assign it to your project (see below).
    Activities
    Start by creating your project.
    1. Enter a name for your project.
    2. Select Modification -> Create.
    3. Enter a short text for your project and select save.
    Next assign the user exit to your project.
    4. Select Components.
    5. Enter the name(s) of the user exits you want to implement.
    6. Select SAP documentation, if you want detailed information on this user exit.
    7. Select save.
    8. Select back.
    Next make your coding modifications.
    9. Select enhancement components.
    10. Select change.
    11. Select the user exit you want to write code for.
    12. Select the include zxpbco01.
    The system will then prompt you to create this include, and you can continue to write your coding in it.
    Next activate your project.
    13. Return to the initial screen and select activate project.
    Routines
    Routines are short sub-programs that carry out various checks during document processing. In the SD module, you can create and process routines for copying requirements, data transfer, requirements and formulas using transaction VOFM. Besides the routines delivered to you with the system, you can create your own individual routines.
    Transaction VOFM allows you to follow a standardized procedure for creating routines. The name ranges are predefined for routines delivered to you with the system and for routines created by the customer. This name convention guarantees that your own routines are not overwritten during a Release upgrade.
    Copying requirements and data transfer
    The routines for coying requirements and data transfer are defined for the document types sales orders, deliveries, billing documents, sales activities, as well as for texts. You specify copying requirements and the data transfers when defining the document flow for each document type. You enter the routines for texts in the access sequences for texts.
    o Copying requirements determine which data is copied during the copying of documents. A copying requirement could define, for example, that the same customer must appear in the document header when you copy an inquiry to a quotation.
    o Routines for data transfer make a detailed control of the copying of fields possible. A data transfer could define, for example, that particular item fields can only be copied in combination with other particular fields and can only be copied into contracts or credit and debit memos.
    Requirements and formulas
    Routines for requirements and formulas are used for functions using the condition technique. You enter these routines in the pricing procedure or the condition types. Requirements are also used for statistics.
    o A requirement in pricing can determine that an access is dependent on a particular precondition. It can carry out a check of the document currency, for example, and, depending on whether it is a foreign or the local currency, allow or deny the access.
    o Formulas are used in pricing to define various factors for pricing. Formulas are defined for scale base value, condition base value, condition amount, group key, and rounding rules. The formula for a rounding rule could define, for example, that all calculated amounts are rounded to two places behind the decimal point during a price change of the condition record. The formula for a condition base value could define, that the header discount is distributed among the order items according to volume an not value of the item, as is the case in the standard SAP R/3 System.
    Creating routines
    There are two methods to create a routine
    1. Creating by overwriting
    When using this method, a note appears as a commentary in the routine to be newly created.
    2. Creating
    When creating a new routine, an ABAP with internal number assignment is created.
    You always have to activate a new routine before using it. Each routine for requirements and formulas, copying requirements and data transfers is stored in a separate program. For each new routine an entry is added in table TFRM and TFRMT. For each routine, a long text can be stored as a text module.
    Most routines must be changed in client 000. Transaction VOFM can be transported as XPRAs, which means that after the import all routines can be activated.
    Name ranges for routines
    The standard routines are to be within the number range 001-599 (for 2 digit formula numbers, 01-49)
    The user routines are to be within the number range 600-999 (for 2 digit formula numbers, 50-99).

  • WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN.....

    Hi friends,
    Please enlighten me ....
    What's the difference between using this.....
    1. Add User command functionality to ALVgrid report
    In order to add user command functionality to the ALV grid you need to perform the following steps:
                        1. Update 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY' FM call to include 'USER_COMMAND' FORM
                    2. Create 'USER_COMMAND' FORM
    call function 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY'
           exporting
                i_callback_program      = gd_repid
                i_callback_top_of_page   = 'TOP-OF-PAGE'
                I_callback_user_command = 'USER_COMMAND'   "see FORM
                is_layout               = gd_layout
                it_fieldcat             = fieldcatalog[]
                i_save                  = 'X'
           tables
                t_outtab                = it_ekko
           exceptions
                program_error           = 1
                others                  = 2.
          FORM USER_COMMAND                                          *

    FORM user_command USING r_ucomm LIKE sy-ucomm
                      rs_selfield TYPE slis_selfield.
    Check function code
      CASE r_ucomm.
        WHEN '&IC1'.
      Check field clicked on within ALVgrid report
        IF rs_selfield-fieldname = 'EBELN'.
        Read data table, using index of row user clicked on
          READ TABLE it_ekko INTO wa_ekko INDEX rs_selfield-tabindex.
        Set parameter ID for transaction screen field
          SET PARAMETER ID 'BES' FIELD wa_ekko-ebeln.
        Sxecute transaction ME23N, and skip initial data entry screen
          CALL TRANSACTION 'ME23N' AND SKIP FIRST SCREEN.
        ENDIF.
      ENDCASE.
    ENDFORM.
    and using this----
    2. Add User command functionality to ALVgrid report
    In order modify PF_STATUS of ALV grid report you need to perform the following steps:
         1. Update 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY' FM call to include:
                        i_callback_pf_status_set = 'SET_PF_STATUS' statement.
         2. Create 'SET_PF_STATUS' FORM
         3. Create pf_status (i.e. 'ZNEWSTATUS').
              - It is recommend that you copy standard status'STANDARD' from function group SALV
                and modify it accordingly. ALV standard function codes always start with '&'.
    call function 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY'
           exporting
                i_callback_program      = gd_repid
                i_callback_top_of_page   = 'TOP-OF-PAGE'
                i_callback_pf_status_set = 'SET_PF_STATUS'   "see FORM
                is_layout               = gd_layout
                it_fieldcat             = fieldcatalog[]
                i_save                  = 'X'
           tables
                t_outtab                = it_ekko
           exceptions
                program_error           = 1
                others                  = 2.
          FORM SET_PF_STATUS                                         *
    FORM set_pf_status USING rt_extab TYPE slis_t_extab.
      SET PF-STATUS 'ZNEWSTATUS'.
                      "Copy of 'STANDARD' pf_status from fgroup SALV
    ENDFORM.
    I have assumed the former is used  when I am selecting a field on the list
    and the later when I have  created a pf-status. I mean to say... I have slected a field and click on some button to get further information.
    Please remove my confusion.
    Thanking you alll in advance,
    Hari Kiran.

    From their Terms & Conditions page:
    Grade A - Working phone in as new/mint condition. Complete with original box and accessories as sold new.
    Grade B (and Discounted) - Working phone in good condition with slight cosmetic blemishes. Charger supplied. If the phone includes a music player/radio then it is supplied with headphones. If the phone has PDA functionality a sync cable and/or docking cradle is supplied. Missing original packaging.
    Grade C (and Budget) - Working phone in poor cosmetic condition. Original or 3rd party charger supplied but missing accessories and original packaging.
    Substitute iPod for phone and I think it makes sense...

  • What is the difference between 'CRM_ORDER_SAVE' and 'CRM_ORDER_MAINTAIN'?

    Hi Experts,
       What is the difference between these two FMs?
       'CRM_ORDER_SAVE' and 'CRM_ORDER_MAINTAIN'
       I want to change the user status of an order in CRM. I have seen several posts in the forum some of which advises to use CRM_ORDER_MAINTAIN' while others  'CRM_ORDER_SAVE'.
      I am really confused. Which one is the correct FM? I could not find any documentation for these FMs.
      Do we need to use both these FMs or only one of them?
    What is the correct order to call this FM?
    1. CRM_STATUS_CHANGE_EXTERN "Change the user status
    2. Commit work
    3. CRM_ORDER_INITIALIZE
    4. CRM_ORDER_MAINTAIN
    5. Commit work.
    6. CRM_ORDER_SAVE
    Also what is the meaning of Ref_kind field? When do we give 'A' and when do we give 'B'?
    ls_status-ref_guid = i_crmd_orderadm_h-guid.
    ls_status-ref_kind = 'A'.
    ls_status-status = 'E0003'.
    ls_status-activate = 'X'.
    APPEND ls_status TO lt_status.
    CALL FUNCTION 'CRM_ORDER_MAINTAIN'
    EXPORTING
    IT_STATUS = lt_status
    CHANGING
    CT_INPUT_FIELDS = lt_input_fields
    EXCEPTIONS
    ERROR_OCCURRED = 1
    DOCUMENT_LOCKED = 2
    NO_CHANGE_ALLOWED = 3
    NO_AUTHORITY = 4
    OTHERS = 5.
    Thanks
    Gopal

    First question:
    - the purpose of 'CRM_ORDER_MAINTAIN' is to set values of the fields (for example set header data, items, pricing...)
    - the purpose of  'CRM_ORDER_SAVE' is just to save objects (in this function you don't set data but just set which objects (guids) should be saved)
    Second question:
    - you can use only  'CRM_ORDER_MAINTAIN'  if you execute function in runtime (change data on the transaction that is opened on the screen) and then you save the object manualy
    - you need both functions if you execute function 'CRM_ORDER_MAINTAIN'  in the background because this function doesn't perform the save functionality by itself
    3rd question:
    The correct order is
    1. CRM_STATUS_CHANGE_EXTERN "Change the user status
    6. CRM_ORDER_SAVE
    You don't need fm 'CRM_ORDER_MAINTAIN', because CRM_STATUS_CHANGE_EXTERN calls at the end 'CRM_ORDER_MAINTAIN' by itself (it is a sort of subfunction of this function).
    4th question:
    With 'ref_kind' you set to which level are you refering (header or item). A is for header.

  • What's the Difference Between OLAP and OLTP?

    HI,
    What's the difference between OLAP and OLTP ? and which one is Best?
    -Arun.M.D

    Hi,
       The big difference when designing for OLAP versus OLTP is rooted in the basics of how the tables are going to be used. I'll discuss OLTP versus OLAP in context to the design of dimensional data warehouses. However, keep in mind there are more architectural components that make up a mature, best practices data warehouse than just the dimensional data warehouse.
    Corporate Information Factory, 2nd Edition by W. H. Inmon, Claudia Imhoff, Ryan Sousa
    Building the Data Warehouse, 2nd Edition by W. H. Inmon
    With OLTP, the tables are designed to facilitate fast inserting, updating and deleting rows of information with each logical unit of work. The database design is highly normalized. Usually and at least to 3NF. Each logical unit of work in an online application will have a relatively small scope with regard to the number of tables that are referenced and/or updated. Also the online application itself handles the majority of the work for joining data to facilitate the screen functions. This means the user doesn't have to worry about traversing across large data relationship paths. A heavy dose of lookup/reference tables and much focus on referential integrity between foreign keys. The physical design of the database needs to take into considerations the need for inserting rows when deciding on physical space settings. A good book for getting a solid base understanding of modeling for OLTP is The Data Modeling Handbook: A Best-Practice Approach to Building Quality Data Models by Michael C. Reingruber, William W. Gregory.
    Example: Let's say we have a purchase oder management system. We need to be able to take orders for our customers, and we need to be able to sell many items on each order. We need to capture the store that sold the item, the customer that bought the item (and where we need to ship things and where to bill) and we need to make sure that we pull from the valid store_items to get the correct item number, description and price. Our OLTP data model will contain a CUSTOMER_MASTER, A CUSTOMER_ADDRESS_MASTER, A STORE_MASTER, AN ITEM_MASTER, AN ITEM_PRICE_MASTER, A PURCHASE_ORDER_MASTER AND A PURCHASE_ORDER_LINE_ITEM table. Then we might have a series of M:M relationships for example. An ITEM might have a different price for specific time periods for specific stores.
    With OLAP, the tables are designed to facilitate easy access to information. Today's OLAP tools make the job of developing a query very easy. However, you still want to minimize the extensiveness of the relational model in an OLAP application. Users don't have the wills and means to learn how to work through a complex maze of table relationships. So you'll design your tables with a high degree of denormalization. The most prevalent design scheme for OLAP is the Star-Schema, popularized by Ralph Kimball. The star schema has a FACT table that contains the elements of data that are used arithmatically (counting, summing, averaging, etc.) The FACT Table is surrounded by lookup tables called Dimensions. Each Dimension table provides a reference to those things that you want to analyze by. A good book to understand how to design OLAP solutions is The Data Warehouse Toolkit: Practical Techniques for Building Dimensional Data Warehouses by Ralph Kimball.
    Example: let's say we want to see some key measures about purchases. We want to know how many items and the sales amount that are purchased by what kind of customer across which stores. The FACT table will contain a column for Qty-purchased and Purchase Amount. The DIMENSION tables will include the ITEM_DESC (contains the item_id & Description), the CUSTOMER_TYPE, the STORE (Store_id & store name), and TIME (contains calendar information such as the date, the month_end_date, quarter_end_date, day_of_week, etc).

    The knowledge I am required to pay for it. Down here in Texas, free means free. Some one out there explain in plain English why I have been charged $40.00
    In last six months for FREE apps.??

    A free app is free to download from the store. Some apps (both free and paid-for) then allow you to make in-app purchases within them e.g. to unlock extra features (items or levels in a game, extra features in other apps etc), to remove adverts (some free apps get money via adverts that are diaplayed in them, but you can sometimes pay to remove them).
    If you don't want to be able to make in-app purchases then you can turn them off on your iPad via Settings > General > Restrictions > In-App Purchases 'off'.
    As most of the people on these forums, including myself, are fellow users, not iTunes Support, we won't know why you have been charged $40 in the last six months. Have you looked at the purchase history on your account (Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes), or contacted iTunes Support ?

  • What are the differences between ESB 10g and OSB 10g

    Hi,
    I'm newbie to OSB 10g. I have installed OSB 10g.
    I came to know after Oracle acquired BEA, the ALSB is renamed as OSB.
    I'm curious to know what are the differences between ESB and OSB.
    If there are many differences, please post any links which provide the required information in detail.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Udaya

    the 'old' esb has been renamed to mediator and is now only used as component in your sca application.
    the two service buses can't really be compared since the osb (former alsb) has way more functionality in it.
    Oracle gave it it's own place in his soa portfolio and the old esb can only be used als mediator in your sca application.
    On top of your sca application you could use the OSB to complete your architecture design.
    the difference between both.
    esb (now used as mediator) can only be used in your sca application
    in here you will use it mostly for routing/transformation, and there is some functionality for assign/java callouts conditional routing
    the osb is complete product with a lot of functionality in it. Everything you used the old 'esb' for can be done in the OSB and with a lot of extra's.
    routing/transformation/service call outs/java callouts/transport virtualization/security/and more and more
    you should read the guides of the OSB to get an idea of everything it can do for you.
