Possible blown fuse? STR-DE725

Last week, I had to shift the position of my entertainment center from one side of the room to the other.   After plugging everything back in, including my STR-DE725 receiver, I stood up, tripped a bit and kicked the power cable to the receiver just enough to pull it about 1/8 of the way out of the extension cord it's plugged into.   This caused the power to flicker for a split second on that side of the apartment, and I mean very briefly - not even enough to cause other devices to power off or the DVR to restart.  But it seems my receiver took the brunt of whatever power surge I somehow caused.    Since then, it will power on, but the LCD display is dead, and I can't get any audio output no matter which input it's set to.  I've unplugged it, trimmed up all of the speaker cable's to make them nice and neat, and ensured that there's no bare wires touching from the outside. I'm guessing my next step is opening it up and fixing/replacing....something.  I've dealth with computers and Audio equipment plenty, but never something like this and I don't want to hose a very expensive piece of hardware or cook myself because I decided to go dinking around where I shouldn't. I apologize in advance if this issue has been addressed elsewhere.  I promise I've done' my due diligence as far as searching for a solution not only on this site but on Google and YouTube as well.  However, it's quite likely that my lack of general knowledge of this piece of equipment and type of issue is preventing me from knowing exactly what to search for.   Thanks for any help.

Hello nmccoy28,
Greetings and thank you for your message. We would like to recommend to try the following steps to make sure that the issue you have described has not damaged that unit completely not just the display panel :
make sure you have the unit connected directly into a power outlet and not a surge protector.
Disconnected all external devices from the receiver, such as speakers, blu-ray player, television, etc.
Try resetting the receiver back to factory settings by following these steps:
While depressing the SET UP and the SOUND FIELD ON/OFF buttons simultaneously on the unit itself, press the POWER button to turn on the main power, normally this is where a message stating FACTORY SET appears and the present contents are reset to the default values, but since you units display panel is not working it will not show.
Turn the unit  OFF , while depressing the DISPLAY and the SOUND FIELD ON/ OFF buttons simultaneously, press the POWER button to turn on the main power AGAIN. The machine enters the DEMO mode.
If the issue persists the unit will require to be repaired and it will be necessary to find a local authorize service center to repair the unit of desired.

  • Dc in board, possibly blown?

I've been trying to figure out why I can't get my ibook g4 to turn on.
I opened it up to see if there was a problem with the dc in board and this is what I found:
The end nearest to where the adapter plugs in has two small pins next to each other and one of them looks burnt. The one beside it is silver, shiny and looks fine. The one in question is black and a little powdery around it.
I opened the laptop on a whim, I didn't really know what I was looking for.
I bought a new adapter, and it helped for a little while.
I bought a new battery, and it also helped for a little while but it stopped charging after five months of use.
It started shutting off while in use. So I tried resetting the PMU with no results.
When I push the power button, it makes a sound that's hard to describe. It's a grinding whir, I suppose. Sometimes it's really slow and will keep going for a while. Sometimes it's quicker then just stops.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. :)

    Hello,
This reminds me of a problem I had on one if my 14" G4 iBooks.
Whenever I turned on the iBook, the unit would power on fine some times, other times it would  engage the fan to make a whirl sound but nothing on the display. After a while this problem became more frequent. The power adapter, battery and DC inboard was all replace with little success.
The problem was traced back to a chip on the logic board that had become detached from the board due to heat.
I wouldn't say this is your fault but its maybe likely.
The problem no doubt sound like a logic board related problem, as the battery is not charging and its not responsive to the PMU reset.
My advise would be, get the iBook tested at an apple store or approved repair shop.
    Best of luck.

  • USB port possibly blown???

    Hey Guys,
    Here is my situation:
First of all I am a drummer and I use my PB in live shows to run our backing tracks.Last night we were rehearsing for a show this friday and I went to plug the PB into a DI box to get it patched into the PA system and the sound guy where we practicing had no clue as to what he was doing and had the channel unmuted and the gain wide open.Well needless to say it made a insane noise and I immediately unplugged the PB.
I was using one of those Turtle Beach USB to audio adapters because my sound out is bad(another story in itself) and it immediatly would not power back up and I could smell it had burned inside. Then this morning I tried to use that usb port and it is dead.
I am not sure if it is fried or what but I thought I would see if you guys had any input as to if it would be an expensive fix through apple.
So this is so long but thanx for reading if you did.

  • PXI-2567 fuse

I regularly blow the 5V fuse on my PXI-2567 boards (I only use the 5V supply). The card is wired through a Virginia Panel G12 interface to a custom load board. The fuse sometimes blows by simply changing test fixtures. The one time I paid close attention, the fuse was fine while I disabled and removed the current fixture, but then blew when I connected a new fixture to the interface. The fuse never blows during test operation so it's not an over current problem. I have verified that all relays are disabled when I change fixtures. One possibility is there is a current spike when I connect the new fixture, but it would have to be a lot of static buildup to cause this. (I am in nice dry Colorado.) Has anyone had experience with this and is there a recommended decoupling scheme to prevent the current spike? How about using fuses that are not slow blow? Any other ideas of why the fuse is blowing?
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Hi Bob,
So you are using a PXI-2567 that is
connected to a Virginia Panels G12. I’m assuming the relays the 2567 is
controlling are in the test fixture. I’d be happy to help you narrow this problem
down. I have some questions about your test setup that may help us figure out
what is causing the fuse to blow.
    1.
    What
relays are you using with the 2567?
    2.
    Are
the 2567 all channels open every time you switch test fixtures?
    3.
    Do
you have any kind of capacitive load on the 5 volt line in your test fixtures?
If you do, this could cause a current spike on connection that is blowing the
fuse. A capacitive load will draw a lot of current from a dc source until the
load is charged. This could also be why the fuse blows on connection of a new
test fixture and doesn’t blow when you remove a test fixture. If a specific
test fixture is not blowing the fuse every time it may be that the initial
current draw is just enough to sometimes blow the fuse but not always.
    4.
    Is
there any fixture that has never blown the fuse? If so does is that fixture’s
relays wired differently than the multiple fixtures that have blown fuses?
Any additional information you can give to
help narrow down the cause of the problem will be helpful.
    Thanks,

  • Power supply board blown?

Yesterday my community had a five hour power failure which included a power surge strong enough to blow the electric meters off several houses and cause a few small fires. My losses included failure of two identical two year-old Toshiba 32" HDTVs, model 32C100U2 (and two ceiling fans).  Neither TV would start via the remote or the power button. Surprisingly, this TV does not have a consumer-replaceable fuse so I opened-up the back of each and easily determined the fuse had blown in each.  Unfortunately, replacing the fuses resulted in another pair of blown fuses. On one TV, I pulled the cables leading to the other boards and tried another fuse -- which immediately fried.
This leads me to believe the power supply board (PK101V1550I) is damaged.  There are no obvious blown components on either board. The caps look intact. I'm seeking second opinions on if replacing the boards is in order before I buy them.  Lots of places have the out-of-stock but I found several on eBay for about $50 each. Thanks....

I had it happen to a TV once. It was the smaller power transformer of the 2. 370XEE19004 is the model number, I think. Let me know if u find it. Thanks.

  • IMac died - fuse?

First generation intel iMac being used to demonstrate inbuilt camera.  As the screen lit up to 'flash', the computer died and cannot be rebooted.  Intuitively I feel it might be a blown fuse. Is there such a fuse inside the machine?  The external mains fuse is ok.  Any help would be appreciated.  (At least I have time machine backup).

Got up early this morning. iMac still totally inert.  Read your post and unplugged iMac.  Ate breakfast and reconnected the computer.  Rebooted perfectly.  All seems ok.  Very grateful indeed for your help.
It was extremely unfortunate that the failure occurred just as I was showing a neighbour the supremacy of Macs over other, lesser devices!!  I shall now have to repair Apple's reputation in her eyes.

  • IPod Nano + USB Power Adapter (+ Universal Dock)

    Hi,
I've got an iPod Nano and a USB Power Adapter to charge it. Untill a few days ago it went fine, even with my Universal Dock between them. But since 2 days my iPod only charges when I put the Power adapter direcly into the wall plug, but with my Hi-Fi installation I'll have to use it with a multiple socket.
Does anybody know why and how to get round this?
    Thanks

  • Macbook Pro 13" 2011 Logic Board Troubleshooting

I have two 13" Macbook Pros, both with the same issue. They are both i5 (2.3 or 2.4 GHz models), 4 GB RAM, Mid-2011 models. Both of them have also been dropped. I believe they have problems with the logic board. When I try to turn it on, nothing happens. The battery does charge I believe, as the battery reports fully charged with the battery button and the MagSafe connector is green when plugged in. When attempting to power on battery alone, nothing happens at all (no lights, no movement, no noises). As soon as I plug the MagSafe adapter in (without pressing the power button), I get a very faint 'ticking' noise, which I have deduced to be the fan's motor VERY slightly receiving power (as if you put your hand on the center of the fan's 'blade' assembly, you can feel the motor very very slightly 'push'/pulse, but not enough to even move it; about 1 second between pulses. I have tried:
-Powering on with no adapter, but battery
    -Powering on with magsafe adapter
-Powering on with no battery but magsafe adapter
    -Resetting SMC
-'Bypassing' SMC with 'Hold power then connect Magsafe' method
-Jump starting it (with the two pads)
-Reading the voltage from the pads used to jump start, 3.4-something volts DC (seems correct).
-Powering on with no RAM (had no different effect)
-Jump-starting with keyboard disconnected from board
Any other ideas where to go with testing from here? I just find it odd to find two that have the exact same (specific-seeming) symptom, from the same sort of damage, with no idea what's wrong. Could it be a fuse, possibly, blown by a short with the case from the fall (even if momentary)? If you have any suggestions for fuses to test or if this seems correct, please suggest them.
To be clear, I am entirely comfortable with removing any/every component in the laptop, if needed, and can work a multimeter and various other diagnostic tools (if I have them). I'm just not too familiar with this particular model's layout and could use some assistance from a more experience tech in regards to Apple products.

Hello, thank you for your reply. I have been using their vast collection of knowledge, and I do believe I've already gone further with this than the information they have/general knowledge floating around the web will take me. I have checked, and I do have power across G3Hot (the 'Jump Start' pads), 3.47v DC, so I am not willing to accept this as a dead board yet. Next is to check MOSFETs and SMD capacitors I think, see if we've got anything toasted there. I did check every fuse I can find on the board. I also picked up some schematics from 'around' for this board, clearly looks enthusiast-made, but still better than nothing; one should think.

  • While using mute function in FaceTime, i still can be heard.

During FaceTime calls with my wife i´m sometimes using the mute function. Often she and the People around her can hear me although my Iphone (5 with IOS 7.0.2) ist showing "mute".
Most Times i´m using a Headset but the failure also appeared without it several Times.

    Barra_240t,
Thanks for your response. I'll answer your question and see if you have any tips or thoughts. However, as Hatter points out below, mine is actually a Power G5 and not a Mac Pro, so if the architecture is significantly different I may need to respost my question to a different Apple Discussions section.
(I hadn't realized until now that mine wasn't a Mac Pro as I bought it second hand. On a budget, I also have been unable to buy a surge protector of the expensive variety that Hatter suggests [1500VA UPS], but I've run my unit run only through a lower grade store-bought surge protector which shows no signs of burn out, blown fuses or anything else that would suggest a power surge. I also made sure to turn off all electricity in the room prior to leaving the country on my three week trip.)
The noisier dual fan console on the lower deck of the Power Mac was receiving power. I unplugged it and noticed the fan on the upper deck also operates and I hear some spin-up activity from the hard drive when I first turn on the poewr. As I'm unable to disconnect the top fan, I can't hear for sure if there is power activity in any other area, but I don't think there is. The power indicator light right above the power button illuminates normally when I power up (but does not then blink as would be the case if RAM was poorly installed, etc.) As I noted earlier, there is no chime and the computer does not respond to the keyboard and I am unable to open the DVD drive by pushing eject. The red beam in the mouse also does not come on, so presumably no power reaches anything attached by USB.
Does that sound like a power block failure? If so, what to do? Is a DIY fix possible? (Advisable?) There have been no electrical storms that I know of since I have been back home and had the electricity on again.
    Thanks.

  • Viso missing on UMI 7772

    Hi
I intend to wire my UMI 7772 to supply power to the forward, reverse and home sensors.
However, I have been measuring the voltage and there is nothing present.  Both green lights come on for Viso and V on the UMI.
    I read the following discussion:
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/Motion-Control-and-Motor-Drives/Do-I-need-to-enable-something-in-MAX-to-turn...
It says there is a fuse blown and it should be returned to NI.  This doesn't make any sense as I can control the Digital outputs on the Digital I/O Dsub, so surely it can't be a blown fuse or it wouldn't be possible to set these?
Does anyone know if there is a way to control the VIso output, either via s/w or and simple h/w fix?
    Thanks,
    Sean

    Hi SeanJ,
I've attached a trouble shooting Knowledge Base that you may find helpful. It will give you some steps that may help debug the system.

  • T60 + water = no battery power?

First off I'm new to the forum with a relatively recent purchase of a T60.  I am super happy with it, but do have one issue I unfortunately created for myself.  I  carried my laptop for 40 feet in the rain, and it got a bit more wet than I had imagined, but it still didn't appear any water had really gotten inside any the openings.  Quickly I wiped it off, let it set for 30 mins, plugged it in then powered it up.  At the time I was using the AC adapter, and everything worked fine.  There was one strange reboot, which is rare in linux but I shrugged it off as software.
Now, my battery shows charged, and on AC power.  When I take the battery out, sure enough it knows the battery is gone.  The LED lights above the keyboard are correct.  However when I power the machine on with only the battery, I get nothing.  Also, if it's running and I pull the AC power....  instant shutoff.
So,  I fried something in there, but the battery still seems good.  Does anybody have any electrical knowledge of the powerboard?  I am an expert solderer, and with a little direction, I'm hoping I may be able to locate a blown fuse?  It's a lit of a long-shot, but entirely possible there is a fuse on the main power line to the battery, since the communicaitons/measurement lines are still all entact, but I am hesitant to rip the case open blind, with the new mahcine, where it does still work on AC power.  I am also considering ordering a new battery. Good idea?
    Thanks for any help,

Is it possible for battery status to be read correctly even if one or more of the pins are not making contact? I don't know...
Have you tried a little gentle cleaning of the battery contacts? I doubt that's the problem, but its easy enough to try.

  • The power supply plug was accidentally reversed in it's polarity

My laptop no longer powers up. The power port on the laptop still glows blue is it possible Im looking at a blown fuse or a motherboard replacement

"accidentally reversed in its polarity"? How did that happen? There are no fuses but the power jack module is replaceable. The fact that it still glows blue probably means it is OK and you are looking at a motherboard replacement.

  • Dead laptop - bad wifi card or ???

    Hi all,
Oddball question: I have a Lenovo t410i that is completely dead. About two years ago, I dropped a bit of water on the keyboard, and something got fried so that the keys wouldn't type correctly anymore. When I went to replace the keyboard, I accidentally ripped one of the cables from the Intel Wifi Card (model 622anhmw). When this happened, the laptop would not power on. After two years, I am finally sitting down to try and fix this, but before I go buy a new wifi card (the cable was ripped out with the solder connection), I wanted to ask if anyone out there knew whether simply replacing the wifi card will actually solve the problem.
Seems like it's a pretty strange thing for the laptop to route all power through this tiny card, but I've seen stranger things.
    Thanks!

My WAG is a blown fuse (if there are any in that laptop) or something else that got yanked on and shorted when the cable was ripped out.
You'll need one of the members, mods, or gurus her on the forums with repair experience to offer advice.  Sorry, it's above my pay grade.

  • HP Laserjet M401A could not set different paper size and tray on printer properties

Good morning all. I'm experiencing a issue setting custom paper size and tray in this printer properties. I would like to set up three different printers, on the same port, to print directly on a specific tray (without enter the printer properties and select the proper tray and size). I have this printer with the additional third tray. I have set up A4 in tray 1 (bypass), custom size in tray 2 and 3 on the printer. When i enter the printer PROPERTIES i want to set up set custom paper size in tray 2 and 3. No way.The only sizes i can see is 13x8, a4, a5, letter, legal, and so on (there are maybe 7 choices). So i choose NOT SPECIFIED. When i go on printer PREFERENCES, i can set up my custom paper size. But when i choose my custom paper size, the tray 2 and 3 go away and i can only choose bypass or tray 1.If i set up A5 (for example) the tray 2 and 3 re-appear. How is it possible? where i am wrong? Many thanks, any help would be appreciated.Cheers,Luca.

I have done extensive research online and looked for relevant posts in other forums, plus I downloaded a LaserJet 4L service manual. The verdict: A common cause of this no-power problem is a faulty DC controller board, blown fuse(s) on it, or other circuitry glitch. I am sure that the paper tray is inserted correctly.
So I decided to cut my losses (I'm not inclined to pull the printer apart to try to fix it--it's not worth my time) and tossed the printer. It's not cost-effective or time-effective to spend a lot of money or time to resuscitate old hardware, except perhaps as a learning exercise.
I consider this thread now closed.
