Possible to find ip addresses of everyone in an ad hoc network?

Hi,
I am developing an application which involves roaming laptops. I need to know when a laptop comes into range so that I may begin communicating with it. Specifically, what I need is to find out the IP address of the computer.
I have put a lot of thought into this, and think there are two possible ways to do this (BTW I am running linux):
1) Using some (unknown to me right now) command line utility that I can call from Java, and parse the output of the program for any ip addresses in the current ad hoc network. So far I have looked at iwconfig and iwlist, but have not found anything useful.
or
2) Somehow flood the ad hoc network so that every computer becomes aware that my PC is now in range, and can send a signal back to complete the handshake.
Anyway, hope you guys can lend me some insight into this problem.

If you're really serious about doing that (which I will reiterate, is a bad idea), you just need to set an infinite loop to continuously search each IP in your local network's range, and use the isReachable(int something) call available as part of the inetAddress API, if you're running Java 1.5 or higher.
Like I said, I can tell you right now that you don't want to do this, at least in Java, and I would suggest looking for alternative network moderation utility methods, more specifically at the source of network communications on your network (ie, at the point of a firewall or router, where you can reasonably expect all users to go through as an access point).

You can view your support profile for your Apple ID, including the products associated with it, through the following website:

If the thief turns on my phone is it possible to find out my phone or given any signal for me? is it possible for the thief to use or sell my I phone even it is on the locked mode by ICloud?

If it is turned on and your lock request is able to be fulfilled, a confirmation email will be sent to your Apple ID email address. There isn't any known way to bypass Activation Lock on your phone so no one will be able to use it. More information on Lost Mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2700

  • For printing: Is it possible to organize the address book in columns to save space in printed page? Otherwise the right half of the page remains empty.

In the old Outlook Express it was possible to organize the address book printed page in double columns so you don't need to waist half of the page leaving empty areas. I can't find the way to do it in thunderbird. Thanks for your help.

I don't have a calendar to test this, but you may have some success following these instructions:

Ask the app developer. That's not an Apple product. I suspect that if it wasn't backed up, it's gone.

  • FiOS location checker can't find my address?

I've tried a few times using the main page as well as a link I found on this forum... Yet still no luck. I just want to check all the deals available and the like to compare to my current cable situation... And considering I'm happy just secretly envious of the faster speeds FiOS could possibly provide, I don't want to call and be pressured @_@
Why wouldn't the locator be able to find my address? I live in Los Angeles, and I know for a fact a few people nearby have verizon...
So help or explanation would be greatly appreciated!

Just because FIOS is available in LA, it doesn't mean its available everywhere. I would be happy to check on the back end if its showing your particular address as being available. I have sent you a private message to get more information.

  • OID to find IP Address of devices connected to a Cisco Switch

    Hi All,
Right now dot1dTpFdbPort(.1.3.6.1.2.1.17.4.3.1.2) OID is being used to find the mac address of the devices connected to a particular switch. It is being found out by passing the VLAN ID and dot1dTpFdbPort OID in the community string.(This is done using sharpsnmp , a C# Library). Is it possible to find the IP address of the devices connected to the switch in a similar manner?... Can specific OID be used for this purpose..
When we have the mac address we can use ARP method to get the device IP but then is it possible to get the IP address using OID?
    Thanks in Advance.

    I generally use either
WakeOnLan gives local network IP and MAC addresses
    <http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15779/wakeonlan>
    or
    Bonjour Browser
    <http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/13388/bonjour-browser>
These utilities tend to show the devices on the network.

  • To find IP address of user who made changes

    Hi Gurus
Can anyone tell me how to find IP address of the system on which specific changes has been done to master. I want to kno system not user. Bcas one user is allowed 2 different persons. So want 2kno specific IP address. Is it possible?
    Thanks..

SAP doesn't store the IP address of the user in change document.
However you might find this information from system logs. Having user name and date and time of change, in transaction STAD look for the logs around that time. If you double click on log you will find the terminal id of the user, which can used to find the ip address.

    Hi,
You should avopid sharing Logins with multiple users also you cannot track for IP address that on which terminal changes have been done, but when you are loggin in and if you see a pop up for
    License Information for Multiple login.
    like
User ABCD is already logged on in client 100
    (Terminal 111.11.111.111-D-123456, since 03.09.2009, 09:01:28)
that time you may get to know who is logged into the system.
    regards,

  • Is it possible to find a version of pages to install on 2007 mac mini running lion?

Can't install the latest system on my mac mini, it's too old.
Want to install pages to work with files a friend is sending me.
The app store only shows the current version of pages which requires the current system.
Is it possible to find an old version of pages to install to run on 10.7.5 ?
or better yet on 10.6.8? (on which I'm stuck because quicken stuck there)
    Thank you.

I cannot answer your Pages question, but...
What type of file is your friend sending you?
FYI: Quicken 2007 for Macs (Snow Leopard, Lion, Mt. Lion and Mavericks) is available for only $15 download directly from Intuit:
    http://quicken.intuit.com/personal-finance-software/quicken-2007-osx-lion.jsp
Also, if/when you upgrade, be sure to partition your hard drive or add an external drive and install Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks there!
Keep your Snow Leopard partition and DO NOT install upgrade over it, as the upgrade will destroy the Snow Leopard environment.

  • Using column value is it possible to find the table name in the database?

    Hi all,
using column value is it possible to find the table name in the database?
guys i need the table value
    Note:
    oracle-9i
    for example:
i don't know NIC(column value) in which table in the database.
    Thank you,

Edited by: Guest on Feb 27, 2012 5:42 AM

    Hi,
As far as I understand what you are asking for I would suggest 4 data dictionaries that will help you to know the table name from the column names
    1. USER_TAB_COLS
    2. ALL_TAB_COLS
    3. DBA_TAB_COLS
    4. COLS
These can give you detail information about the columns and respective tables at user, schema, dba level. Further information on the table can be found by querying ALL_OBJECTS table giving table_name as Object_name, or you can join the data dictionaries too.
    To know about various data dictionaries avalible in Oracle please query select * from cat;
Let us know if you need further assistance.

  • STOLEN IPHONE - IS IT POSSIBLE TO FIND IT?

Is it possible to find my stolen iPhone through the imie code? using iphone makes sense when you have an Apple ID. Is it possible to find my iPhone through IMEI if someone restored the pjone and connected it to a new Apple ID? That would mean that one IMEI is in two Apple Accounts. Is it possible to find out that?
Second question - I didn't have Find My Phone software on the stolen iPhone, but installed it on another (old one i have) and it showed both iphones the old one i am using now and the stolen one. The fact that the stolen device appears in my account means that the phone has not been restored or it could have been restored and now works in another account?
    Thanks for information in advance.

    Dear AnaMusic,
I read the infomration in the link you sent me, but there is no information about the option 'report a stolen device'. I can't see any option like that one. I can see only that I can look for it through 'Find My iPhone' application, which, I heard, is useless if the telephone has been restored.
Where can I report a stolen iphone?
    regards,
    Martin
