Power on issues- HP service resolved

For about a year now I've been having an intermittent problem with my e9250t Pavilion not always booting to Windows after a cold start. Sometimes the computer would start fine, and once in a while it would hang at POST, but the majority of my experiences were the computer hanging at the HP logo screen and never booting Windows. Shutting off the PC and turning it back on two or three times was usually required to get to Windows. There was a simple work around for this problem: i rarely turned the computer off and used sleep mode when I did. Other than this issue, this PC has worked flawlessly for me. My extended warranty expires in a few months, so I decided to see if HP Tech Support could diagnose my problem. I spent a couple of hours on the phone with a very helpful agent but we failed to identify the problem. HP called me back several times over the next few days with a few other ideas to try but nothing resolved the issue.
My warranty called for in home repair, but because the specific problem couldn't be identified, they wanted me to ship the PC to their service center. They sent a sturdy box and packing material and paid for 2nd day air service both ways. They sent e-mails when the computer arrived and a two week suggested return date. Two days later, another e-mail reported the computer had been repaired and was on its way back. It was gone just 8 days. The problem turns out to have been the nVidia 220 video card. They replaced the card and updated the BIOS. And much to my delight, they did not do a factory reset. The computer now turns on perfectly.
I thought it was important to share a positive tech support experience.

  • My Time Capsule has just failed, 2 months after the end of 12m warranty. same old known power supply issue, "just unlucky" says my local Apple service center. ***?

i bought a 2TB Time Capsule in Sep 2010. its just failed last week, less than 2 months after the expiry of the 12month warranty.
and 3 months after the end of Apple's offer to replace all the many Time Capsules that have failed previously due to this same fault.
    nice timing guys.
"yeah, its dead. same old known power supply issue", says my local Apple service center, "just unlucky".
huh? "unlucky"? you sell products with known defects, and when it fails i'm "unlucky". nice.
"OK, anyway, how much to fix it ?", i ask.
"you can't fix them, its closed", is the reply, "you have to buy another one".
"hmpf. OK, how do I get my backed-up data off it ?"
"you can't. we could try break it open and recover the hard disk i guess, but no guarantees we'd get it, and you'd have to pay for us to do that, whether it works or not of course".
"er.... is there a hidden camera in here? are we on TV? you can't be serious ? ..and this piece of garbage is what i've been using for a secure backup of my precious, irreplaceable, priceless personal data  ???"

ceeb28744.  Welcome to the Apple Users Support Community.  Sorry to hear your TC died!  You said it was a 2TB so I would guess it be the model A1355/MB997LL/A or MC344LL/A.  Believe it or not all users of these time capsules will eventually experience this problem like you have.  There is a 99.5% (or better) chance that the only thing that is wrong with it is the internal power supply.  If you will go to this site.... https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenague/a-deconstruction-of-routers-and-modem s/apple-time-capsule-repair  and once there look over at the left side and you will find:
Apple Time Capsule Repairers    and from that list you will be able to choose from a list of individuals that could repair your TC and have it returned to you fully operational again.  The individuals on the list are hardware technicians and they can save you a lot of money and time.

  • "Onsite Next Business Day Warranty" - Current Warranty Request/Warranty Issues/Poor Service

TL;DR at the bottom of the post, detailed information in between.   I have had a T430s for a little less than three years.  I have called the warranty/customer service ~5+ times and every time gotten extremely poor service, whether it be because parts were "backordered" for weeks at a time, or because "Next Business Day" service has been anything but. I have decided to take a different route for my most recent warranty request, I will keep an up to date account of my request via this forum, with the intent of informing as many as possible with the current state of "Onsite Next Business Day Warranty". I called the warranty ~1hr ago and filed a service request.  The outcome of the request was that "I should receive a call in the next day or so, no later than 5:30PM tomorrow" when the employee I spoke with arrives in the office.  I pressed as to who would call, the employee would not answer definitively, but hinted that it would be his manager, because my warranty request apparently contained "so many parts that it required approval".  The parts have not been shipped, and it was abundantly clear that the subject of the call would be whether this warranty request would get approved. Hopefully, readers can already tell where this is going, next business day onsite repair apparently means in the next 24 hours, you will receive a phone call letting you know if Lenovo will honor their warranty obligations that have already been paid for. To detail my issues:1. The fingerprint scanner has stopped working for the second time. 2. I have had an issue where when I pick up the laptop on the lefthand side, the screen turns to 'snow' and will not return to its regular condition until next boot.  The laptop is unusable in this condition.  I have been attempting to get this fixed essentially since I purchased the laptop, however, after 3 technicians came to 'fix' the issue, it has not been solved.  I have asked/suggested every time I have called the warranty line that the issue is the system board, and it needs to be replaced.  Every time, they have refused to replace the system board, instead opting for other parts, some of which were on 'backorder' for over a month (remember, "Next Business Day Onsite Repair").  The difficulty in obtaining warranty service from Lenovo has caused me to only attempt to get this fixed when other issues pop up, as they have in this case.  Frankly, this issue alone should have caused Lenovo to call this laptop what it is after warranty request #2, a lemon, and they should have/should send a replacement model. 3. The laptop will not 'awake' from sleep mode - when the lid is closed, the keyboard/power button will not respond, and all power sources (battery, charger cable) must be removed and the laptop restarted. 4.  When the laptop is booted up, there is a 'CMOS' error message - I have never had a BIOS battery 'go' in this short a time frame. Issues 1,3, and 4 have cropped up in the last week. The warranty employee suggested that I might need to send my laptop in for 'Depot' repair instead of onsite, which in this instance will not work because of the significant delay that may entail.  I have a professional licensing/certification exam this month, and would greatly prefer that my laptop be in tip-top shape for the exam.  The need to have the greatest level of uptime is what caused me to pay for the NBD Onsite Warranty in the first place. My previous (horrible) warranty experiences and requirement for expedient repair have led me to seek a better method for resolving issues, namely airing them in a public forum, which hopefully will elicit a response from someone who can actually get things done in the warranty department. I have 0 hope of receiving next business day repair (or even repair by Friday, as the warranty explictly says calls received after 4:00 PM might take 2 business days).  I am skeptical that the issue will be resolved in the next week or two. Likewise, I have little hope that [some of] the problem(s) will actually get resolved after "repair" has been made, as historically that has not been the case for me with this laptop.  I will be voting with my dollars after this, as I have been uniformly unimpressed with Lenovo customer service/warranty/etc.  The laptop has been very nice when it doesn't have issues (and when I don't forget to grab it in a certain way), however, everything else about Lenovo has been exceedingly frustrating. The TL;DR of this is:1. If you work for Lenovo and can help, or if you don't and can help, please do!!!  I will be extremely grateful for any assistance. 2. DO NOT under any circumstances purchase the Onsite NBD warranty thinking that the warranty will live up to the title.  I have never received NBD Onsite warranty service, despite repeatedly 'giving' the option to Lenovo to provide such service. 3. If you are considering purchasing a Lenovo product, please read some of the stories people have on their dealings with the support side of the business.  I will speak for myself and say that I will almost certainly never buy another Lenovo product again, and will strongly encourage everyone I know to do the same - after recounting my issues with them.

  • Power Mac G5 DP1.8GHz - Bad Logic Board or Power Management Issue?

I have a Power Mac G5 DP1.8GHz/1.5GB/80GB which I bought non-working. It has not yet been disassembled or examined by a certified tech. This is it's issue (which replicates): the computer powers on. It makes a single warning tone, then the LED flashed at least 15 times (too fast to count). Then the posting chord is heard. Hard drive spins up. Then nothing (no video). Won’t boot from any disk. I have changed the RAM and tested the RAM banks with known-to-be-good RAM from another DP1.8GHz G5. The warning tone stopped once or twice after this switch, but then it didn’t chime. I changed the PRAM battery, but not with as new one. However, after installing the used one and then resetting the PMU, it displayed video briefly for the first time. While installed in the other 1.8GHz G5, the hard drive was formatted, given a clean install of OS X 10.4.11, and then moved into this computer where is never mounts. The computer is not accessible through TDM.
Do I have a bad logic board? Bad CPUs? A power managment issue? A RAM issue?

Through my own trial and error troubleshooting, I have found the CPUs to be in good working order and the logic board passes the Apple Service Diagnostic every time. Despite the installation of numerous pairs of modules that worked in another DP1.8GHz, the computer has a RAM issue-it gives the "no good RAM" tone most of the time when it powers up (after a PMU reset it does not). Also the computer boots from disk or into Open Firmware but the disk utility can't see either hard drive so I may have a bad SATA controller.

Did you try downgrading to 3.11 to see if that helps ? Looks like other people may be having similar issues - see the later posts in this thread here .
That was originally about a issue with suspends on 3.11 i386 only that was fixed in 3.12. But the last few posts seem to indicate a different issue that started with 3.12.

  • Win 10 Upgrade and Power Manangement Issues

I have an S230u Twist.  After upgrading to Win 10 I have the following outstanding issues:  The most problematic is that after the upgrade I have an issue with the unit going to sleep. Upon waking, the screen brightness resets to about 5%.  It doesn't do this all the time but often enough be irritating.  I've turned off adaptive brightness but this doesn't help.  I've run System File Checker which made some fixes to corrupt files and this helped somewhat.  Lenovo Solutions Center reports that the Power Management Software is not installed even though I 've upgraded the Power Management driver with the Win 10 version.  I'm at a loss to know what to check next to fix this. The other issue concers the start menu - the "Most Used"  doesn't seem to update with the Most Used programs I use (most which are on the Task Bar). Any support I can get on the Power Management issue would be most appreciated.

I spent more hours trying to resolve. Down loaded driver 355.60 Win 10 64 bit (355.60-notebook-win10-64bit-international-whql)Uninstalled current driver and software via device manager.Expanded the driver and ran setup. Performed a custom install without GF Experience. Install went through fine and rebooted after removing software.Came back up and continued install and completed with no errors. Ran device driver and confirmed driver installed. Set GoogleEarth to run with graphics processor.Everything seemed okay.Set desktop to include in notification tray and Display GPU Activity so I could see that GE was running in processorThen launched GE with 3 buidings and citties. Ran site seeing tour.Crashed after a couple of minutes with System_thread_exception_not_handled and rebooted. When it came back up I turned of to show in notification tray and turned off GPU activity.Re-Ran GE and it lasted a bit longer and then crashed with the same errorSystem_thread_exception_not_handled and rebooted. Would welcome any further help.

  • Heat, and Fans, and a Power Supply issue! Oh, My!

    Hello,
My iMac G5 2Ghz (20") has been experiencing issues lately which I thought were resolved back when I brought it in for the "Repair Extension Program for Power Supply Issues". I took it to my local Apple Store and they replaced the power supply as well as my HD. The machine kept shutting off at random times as well as heating up, so it broke my HD after several months making me forced to bring it in. First and most importantly, the machine is producing a significant amount of heat which I believe is not normal, especially when doing simple tasks such as opening a file or folder on the desktop just after boot. I don't mean to complain about the heat, but the whole room is filled with hot air and it feels like somebody turned the heat on. I have several other Macs around my house and no two of them make as much heat as this one. (iMac G4 and eMac G4) The fans power on from time to time, but "rev up" when doing CPU intensive tasks. I understand the fans need to be at a higher speed, but they were never this high when I just used iMovie back in 2005 when this was new. Now, I know others have been having issues in these related areas as well, but is there anything else I can do. I have tried about everything, but I am just worried that power supply and HD will go again. Also, the highest inside temperature I recorded was "161.4°F". I thought that the normal temperature was "70°F", so if anyone could tell me that as well, it would be appreciated.
I have tried just about everything:
    PMU/SMU reset
    PRAM reset
    reset-all
    repair permissions
You name it, but fell free to reply with something new. (the fans are already clean)
    Thank you.

Thanks for the reply. I at one point ran the hardware test using my installer disc and all was fine. It seems that the fans were actually running better when I booted from the disc which leads me to think it could really be partially a software issue. There is a possibility there is something corrupt in the system files, but I had to reinstall Mac OS X a few times due to them replacing my HD. It seems the computer runs cool with the lower versions of 10.4, but warmer with the higher versions of 10.4. It now makes sense because it shipped with a lower version and over time got worse with the higher versions. I am assuming that the people who got their power supplies replaced had the lasted update possible causing this issue. I cannot be 100% that it is software because I do not know exactly which system files run each hardware component. I am currently using the machine a lot and would not be too happy without it for about a week. (although, before the holidays come it may be best to bring it in before the holiday gift repair parade comes in!) Thanks again for the advice and if anyone owns this machine, feel free to share your message.

  • Power on-Power off issues with X200

I am having power up and power down issues with my Lenovo X200.
Prior to the immediate problem, I would experience occasional unexpected shutdown of the computer (I would hear a relay click when it happened), and on some occasions when I put it into hibernation, then power it back up later it would not resume, instead, it would restart with a new session of Windows.
About a month ago, it shut down while I was using it.  I powered it back on, but it took a long time (nearly a minute) to get the “ThinkPad” initial boot screen, then the screen would be blank for about a minute, then I would get a screen that read, “Intel Management Engine BIOS Extension v 4.0.4.0007” and also “M.E Initializing……”   That screen would show for about a minute, then I got another screen reading “Security chip is generating endorsement key pair.  Please wait.”  That screen would show for about 5 minutes, then it would read, “Generation failed!!!” for about 5 seconds.  After that, it would boot to Windows (I am using Windows 7 Professional).
When I would shut it down, either in hibernate mode or full shutdown, after the hard drive icon stopped flashing (indicating it had shut down), the power icon, battery icon would stay on, and the “sleep” icon would flash.  I would have to hold the power button down to turn those icons off; if I failed to do that the power would stay on until the battery completely drained.
I read something about the “Security chip is generating endorsement key pair” message so I went into BIOS and changed the security chip from “Active” to “Inactive”.  However, when I would start the computer with the chip “inactive”, it would go first to the initial boot screen, then to the “M.E. Initializing” message, then the screen would go blank and remain blank, not ever booting to Windows.  So I went back to BIOS and changed the security chip to “Disabled”.  With it disabled, it will boot up, but still is very slow booting and I still get that “M.E. Intializing” message for about a minute, and also I still have to hold the power button down to power down the computer after I shut it down (or hibernate) with Windows.
The good news is that, after this started happening, I have not encountered an unexpected shutdown nor has it failed to resume the previous windows session if I hibernate it.
Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance for your help.

The difference may be that the G5 iMac bus (where your fire wire plugs into the back) is a powered bus. What this means is the LaCie drive will "sense" the power from the bus and not turn off. The power it gets from the fire wire bus however may (is) not be enough to actually operate it, only leave it on. You still need to the drive into a power outlet.
In the LaCie manual (CD that comes with drive) and the FAQ section of LaCie's web page it states this as well.
What I do is manually turn the drive on when needed (performing back up or for scheduled back up). The LaCie drive should be quiet when not in use as it has no fan.
PS - try SuperDuper for backups, much better (IMHO) than Silverkeeper.

Since purchasing the Note 3 in October i have had nothing but issues. I went through all the steps and eventually I was sent a different phone, which was working for the most part until the recent upgrade. Now I am back to the old issues, no service, it actually says not moblie network available, when everyone else in my family has coverage and are on my plan with iphones. I am missing text messages and dropping calls left and right. This is unacceptable for the cost of this phone and my service. I have did a hard reset etc. What else can I do??

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • FV11 key combination issue - Materials - Services

    Hi MM experts,
I am having problem while making the PO - Services.
We are separate POs for material & services.
FV11 key combination maintained for Materials : Plant/Vendor/Material
FV11 key combination maintained for services : Plant/Vendor/Materail Group
While making PO- Material, If select V1- Taxes conditions are coming - which is required & right
If select V0 - Taxes conditions are not flowing
While making PO- Services, If select V1- Taxes conditions are coming & taxes are flowing in PO - which is required & right
if select VO - then also same conditions are coming & taxes are flowing in PO
here my requirement is why services PO the V0 - taxes & tax conditions are flowing as maintained in FV11 key combination
pl help in arresting the Services-PO - Taxes & Tax conditions should not flow when we select V0.
    thanks & regards
    Srihari

    hi
I think my query is not clear, i repeat the same.
    1. I am maitaining Fv11 for Vat i.,e JVRD conditions, this will be triggered when i use V1 in while making PO- Materials, all the tax values ie., Vat amount is flowing in PO,
If I select V0, then the tax conditions are not flowing and values are nil. PO- Materials, all the tax values Nil, and the po value is without any Vat amount.
    2. Similarly, I am maintaining FV11 for service tax ie., JSRT -10%, JEC1-2% & JSEC-1%, this will be triggered when I use S1 in while making PO-services, all the tax values ie., service, ec, sec cess amounts are flowing in PO.
If is select V0, then also the tax conditions are flowing in PO- services, all the tax values ie., service tax, ec, sec cess
I want the PO-Service, without any taxes, when I select standard Tax condition V0.
Pl suggest, do we have separate tax conditions for materials & services,  meaning
V1 - taxes to flow in PO- Materials
V0 - Taxes not to flow in PO- Materials
S1 - Services taxes to flow in PO- Services
S0 - Services not to flow in PO- Services   -
    > this is to be created new??????????
pl advise, how i over come the issue of services taxes flow in PO-Services.
    pl help
    thanks & regards

  • Issue with services being published in SR

    Hi Experts,
We have an issue with services being published in SR
    1.       Service is created and published from ECC to Service registry
    2.       End points are created in Soa manager
But the service state is shown as u2018Modelledu2019 instead of u2018Configured u2019 in SR
    Thanks,
    Sowmya.

    Hi Sowmya,
If you want it to appear in the SR as 'Configured', change your procedure to as follows:
    - Create Service in ECC
    - Configure endpoints in SOAMANAGER
    - Then Publish Endpoint binding URL (as it appears in SOAMANAGER) in SR. You can do this Publishing in SOAMANAGER as well. The idea to configure the endpoint before publishing to get the 'Configured' state.

  • How to change power state in a Service Profile Template

I'd like to change the setting "Power State" in a Service Profile Template. While I can change nearly every other aspect of the template, I can't find this in the UCS Manager GUI. Is this an immutable decision while creating the template? Can I change it via the CLI?

    Hi Joernclausen,
What is the firmware version of your UCS?
From the CLI try the following and let me know if it works.
Go into the FI CLI and perform the steps below, ensure to enter your own template_name and select appropriate type of template followed by setting the power up or down
    sj-ucs-r13-mon-A# scope org
    sj-ucs-r13-mon-A /org # enter service-profile template_name initial-template
    sj-ucs-r13-mon-A /org/service-profile # power up
    sj-ucs-r13-mon-A /org/service-profile* # commit-buffer
    sj-ucs-r13-mon-A /org/service-profile # power down
    sj-ucs-r13-mon-A /org/service-profile* # commit-buffer
You may also be able to change the power state from the individual service profiles
Go to the service profile and use "Change Initial Power State" button for modifying the desired-power value.
