  • IMac and power failure, now new startup screen and abrupt shutoff

Had a power failure, iMac kept turning on and off, finally unplugged and after 8 hours, I try to start and I get a screen that has the apple logo and spinning load animation, but also a new bar that shows something is being worked on. It reaches the end and abruptly shuts off.

What version of OS X was your Mac running?

  • Power Outage and Now Ethernet Not Working and When Imac Goes to sleep...

Last I had a power outage, now my ethernet connection does not work, I have switched cable powered everything off and back on, still nothing. Also since the outage when my MAC goes to sleep it does wake back up. Any Ideas?????

    Russ,
Try booting up from the Tiger install disc (put disc in, restart, hold C key down as soon as you hear chime, release C when you see the spinning gear). Then select your languag, go to Disk Utility, select your startup disk and choose Repair Disk. Then quit installer and reboot normally.
Then when booted normally, do to Disk Utility, select your startup disk and Repair Permissions. Post back.
It is not good for a computer to experience a power outage while booted up. Various things can get messed up. After you get straightened out, I would strongly suggest getting an uninterruptible power supple (UPS or battery backup). I use one made by APC and think they are a very important accessory to have.

    Hi there,
Do you have icloud account? You need firstly turn off find my iphone (by go to icloud.com -->sign in --> go to "Find my iphone" and erase your iphone in it). And then you restore your iphone with DFU mode.
When you erase your Find my iphone and if you can not restore, your iphone has a problem with hardware.
    Some infos can help you.
    Kind regards,

  • I had a power outage, my battery powered surge protector worked.  But now when I turn on my Apple TV, I cannot get beyond the computer and setting screen, and see the Apple TV options screen.  What step am I missing.  Internet is working.

After the power outage, turned on TV and tried connecting to my Apple TV, but directed to a screen with a computer Icon and a Setting Icon.  Can't get past this screen to my TV options screen.  Internet is connected???  How to I get to my TV options?

Yes I had already reset my internet connection and had no progress.  However, while I was trying to figure out a solution I used my Apple TV to listen to music from my computer.  Then I went back and tried again and the TV icons appeared - and Apple TV was working

    Hello,
    What OSX version?
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

  • After several power outages, there is only a white screen, an apple in the center and a time strip after the strip is complete it turns it self off what is this problem

I have a 27in Mac desk top, its about a 2009, after several power outages and the computer pluged up and on now when turn it on it shows a white screen, apple in the center and a time strip toward the bottom when the time strip goes to the end of the cycle it shuts its self off.
The only thing we have tryed which was from a forum which was simular problem was, command-option-p-r, hold them down til the screen was back up, we try several times it did not work, please, please some-one help we use this computer for our job.

Also the trick you used, is known as resetting the PRAM. Not always the best of ideas for Macs older than 4 years.  But I'm glad it worked for you.  There is a battery which will eventually need replacing inside that would actually make that technique stop your Mac from working until replaced.

  • Apple TV 2 blank screen after power outage

I recently had a power outage in my apartment and my Apple TV 2 never turned back on. It was plugged into a Cyber Power UPS surge protecter. I unplugged it and then replugged it in the next day and I got the white power light. I changed my TV input to the correct HDMI setting, and the screen was blank. I then tried to restore it using Itunes, Itunes did its thing and said the restore process was successful. I plugged it back in to my TV, and the screen was still blank. I've checked the HDMI cable and even changed outlets. The ATV has the white led light and even blinks when I press a button on the remote. I noticed that it will blink 3 times before "starting up" I don't remember that happening before. I also checked my router's signal light for the connection and there is no signal light on my router indicating that it's plugged in. I'm starting to think that maybe it's now just a dead box that so happens to turn on?

    Fixed it.
I got tired of dealing with it, so I unplugged the power and left the USB cable plugged in (purely being lazy).  After a day or so and several reboots I decided to try the restore one more time.  Surprisingly, iTunes still recognized the ATV was plugged in even though it didn't have power.  So I let it download and update the device.  Somehow it worked with no power plugged in, but I am now enjoying my ATV again.  Good luck to everyone else!

  • After a series of very short power outages in my town our Imac boots with the pinwheel going and a progress bar, then the users screen comes up but our passwords no longer opens up desktops, just returns to the users choice screen.  What should I do?

I'm on the choose a user screen and when I enter the password the screen goes white then returns to choosing a user. The system is rebooting differently when I tried turning off then back on, the pinwheel screen has a progress bar and it takes minutes instead of seconds.
    what should I try?

You can try an SMC reset, especially if there was a power outage.

If the issue seems like it just doesn't want to accept the password you'll need to boot to the install disc/recovery partition of the hardrive by holding the 'option' key while booting up. There should be a utility in there to reset your password.

  • I was updating my laptop and now have a kernal error and cannot get anything to reinstall or start up properly.  I believe that I had a power outage when my mac air was in the middle of a software update and now I am stuck

I have kernal error after power outage in the middle of updating mac air
a software update and now I am stuck

You didn't have enough battery power left when performing the update, and it died? That's bad.
You should be able to reinstall OS X using OS X Recovery or in the case of an older MacBook Air running Snow Leopard, by using your original System Install DVD and Remote Install OS X from another Mac.
Reinstalling OS X does not erase your user accounts or data.

  • While updating the software from 6.1.3 to 6.1.4 on iPhone 5, the power failed. iTunes had just finished the backup and was beginning the software update. Now the phone screen says to connect to iTunes but the phone is not recognised when plugged in.

While updating the iPhone 5 software from 6.1.3 to 6.1.4, the power failed. iTunes had just finished the backup and was beginning the software update. Now the phone screen says to connect to iTunes but the phone is not recognised when plugged in. Using Windows 7 and phone not recognised by computer, let alone by iTunes.
Any suggestions? Happy to take it off to the the Apple genius people but would prefer to get it running myself.

  • Apple tv was working fine until power outage.  Now stuck on Computers and Settings Icons.  Cannot get back to normal function.

Apple TV was installed and functional until power outage.  Now I am stuck on Computers and Settings Icons and cannot get back to normal operation.  Can get to settings which  I have tried many times.  Any thoughts?

Happened once to me also following a nasty storm
One of the 2 things worked for me (can't recall which):
    1. Power down everything. UNPLUG  your apple TV and whatever it's connected to, including the power cord and the HDMI cable (disconnect at both ends) Wait a minute or two.
    Reconnect everything: Restart.
    2. Totally Reset the Apple TV (this is more work since you'll need to add all your settings)
Whatever worked: My Apple TV resurrected itself (unfortunately can't say the same for my DVD player).
    3. Lastly, the timing of the storm could be a cooincidence - this happened to someone else here (no storm invoived) and it turned out to be a temporary outage at Apple. see this: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18027331#18027331
For the future, if you've grown paranoid...
I always unplug my computer for heavy storms (on the advice of a techie at power protection company), But  These days, if a storm is really severe (or very extended) I also unplug my AV equipment. the The ATV is chump change compared to the cost of my other components - but I've grown really dependant on it.
Remember: Surge suppressors will take the first hit, but often that's it, their circuitry can then get blown. Also if you do unplug power,  Unplug power for everything (very easy by connecting everything to a Surge suppressor) just don't forget RF Cables or ethernet cables (If you leave your router connected).
Personally, I leave my router on, and am willing to rebuy if neccessary, in order to at least access my laptops, and iPad. BUT this means I have to unplug the ethernet cables.
Good luck, doubt your ATV is toasted if anything comes up.
