Power Query disabled in Excel

I am not able to use any of the POWER BI tools, every add-in's seems to be disabled in my system. I tried editing the Registry to but it didn't work. As mentioned in another feed, I tried installing the Data Mining add-in hoping that the installation would
fix any undetermined registry issues, but was of no use

Hi John,
Would you be able to install the latest PQ update and verify if this issue still happens?
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/powerbi/archive/2014/05/29/what-s-new-in-power-query.aspx
If that's still the case, could you try repairing your Office 2013 installation?
Thanks,
M.

Excruciatingly frustrating to have such an unintuitive message. What should I do to get power query working in excel 2013 and most importantly for excel to function ?

    Hi,
It should be the latest version of Power Query. Make sure there is no old version of power Query installed in your computer. And what happens if you reinstall Power Query add-in or repair your office program?
Also Microsoft Power Query for Excel requires Internet Explorer 9 or greater.

  • Power Query Update 2.16.3785.242 (64-bit) has Corrupted Excel

The most recent update to Power Query has rendered Excel useless.  Any use of the Ctrl key (copying, pasting, etc.) will cause Excel to crash and restart.
A co-worker had the same problem yesterday and we were perplexed in its origin, though it became clear the update was the source after updating this morning.
    We need a fix ASAP!

Hi W. If you can still repro the crashes, can you please do the following to get a crash dump and then send it to us? (You can use the Send a Frown functionality on the working version of PQ.)
Edit the registry, open the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting and change the DWORD value ForceQueue to 1
Open %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue in Windows Explorer to monitor it
Reproduce the crash – at this point something should appear briefly in the ReportQueue folder

  • Power Query for Excel login/connection issue.

    Hi all
I have recently installed Power Query for Microsoft Excel in MS Office 2013.
I can connect successfully to the all the BI Universes, create queries & design reports in Excel.
The problem that I have is that I can only do this with the Administrator account. The Admin account is the only account that can connect successfully to the BI universes.
I have created test user accounts, test groups and assigned security to basically reflect the same rights as the Admin group, but to no avail.
I have also assigned security to these users & groups on the application level (RESTful Web Service, Universes, Connections) , but no luck.
It constantly says : "Access to the Resource is forbidden"
The last thing I want to do is make the users part of the Administrator group. I'm sure you guys would agree that that would be like opening Pandora's Box

    Hi Liang,
Power Query is part of Excel 2016 and can be found under the Data tab.

  • Sharepoint 2013 support for power query

    Hi,
I wanted to know whether SharePoint 2013 supports power query and can we refresh power query data from excel services.
    Thanks,
    Bhawna.

    Hi Bhawna.,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to know whether SharePoint 2013 support Power Query and refresh power query data from excel services.
The  refresh of workbooks involving Power Query queries isn't currently available in SharePoint 2013.

  • Power Query: Connect to Microsoft Access protected by password

    Hi,
I'm trying to connect to Access 2003 database using Power Query addin in Excel 2010. The access database is protected with password. Power Query returns an error Not a valid password, while i cannot find any place or 'M' formula to pass the password to power
    query. Pls help.

I believe we don't currently support connecting to password-protected Access databases from within Power Query.
I guess a similar situation occurs with password protected excel files?
Are there any plans to add a functionality to connect to such files?

  • Visual studio online - Excel power query usage and samples needed

    Background
Visual Studio Online does not offer much in the way of reporting, when compared to (onsite) TFS... unless you utilize the REST API functionality.
The Visual Studio Online REST API is fairly extensive, but not very 'reporting' friendly to applications like Microsoft Excel.
    Question
Are there any good examples of Microsoft Excel Power Query usage - to acquire and create reports via the Visual Studio Online REST API?  I've searched - but surprisingly haven't found anything of substance.  It is fairly simple to call a VSO REST
query using Excel Power Query, but not so simple to iterate through the lists within lists, etc... unless you are familiar with 'M language'.

    Hi,
Thank you for reaching out to us. I am currently researching to gather more information with regards to your request. I shall revert back to you with an update at the earliest. Sincerely appreciate your patience.

  • POWER QUERY Get External Data From File From Folder (Excel 2013)

    Hi,
    Beginner's question :
What could be the use of the query on a folder : we just get a list of files with their path. What can we do with that?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Do you want to combine data from multiple Excel Files in the same folder path into one table? If I understand correct, we can add a custom column to import the data.
After we getting a list of files with their path, the Query Editor window will activate to show you a table containing a record for each file in the chosen directory. These will provide our function with the needed FilePath and FileName parameters.
Function sample: File name([Folder path],[Field name]

  • Can I use Power Query to Import a table from Excel sheet range which starts not from the top row?

    Hi,
Being an experienced Excel user before Power BI, I am just starting to explore the M and Power Query capabilities, and need help already (ain't easy to google this use case somehow):
I need to import the table which sits in the Excel file with header row in the row 17 of Excel sheet, with some metadata header in the preceding rows of the columns A and B.
    01: Report name, Quick Report
    02: Report Date, 1/1/2014
    17: Employee Name, Manager, etc...
18: John Doe, Matt Beaver, etc.
Both (a) direct attempt to load as Excel file and (b) the indirect way through [From Folder] and formula in custom column -- both lead to the same error: "[DataFormat.Error] External table is not in the expected format."
Specifically, I tried to use the [Power Query -> From File -> From Folder] functionality, select an Excel file and add a custom column to access the binary content: [Add Custom Column] with formula "=Excel.Workbook([Content])".
It looks like Power Query expects a rectangular range with headers full-width followed by a contiguous table range to import anything, and refuses to load if that is not the case...
QUESTION: Is there any way to load whatever-formatted data from Excel first, and then manipulate the overall imported range (like referring to rows starting from 17th using "Table.SelectRows" etc.) to read the actual data? Reading and using
the metadata from header would be a bonus, but that comes second... The main issue is to get something from a non-regular Excel file to later work with using M formulae ...
    Thanks!
    SAM

Finally found the answer to this one in ():
You Cannot Open a Password-Protected Workbook
If the Excel workbook is protected by a password, you
cannot open it for data access, even by supplying the correct password with
your connection settings, unless the workbook file is already open in the
Microsoft Excel application. If you try, you receive the following error
      message:
    Could not decrypt file.
ANSWER: So, will have either weave in the work with temporary unprotected files or requires opening them before updating the data source (although this almost defeats the purpose of automation...)
ANSWER to ORIGINAL QUESTION: password was preventing Power Query from reading the Excel file. For solution see above.
Thanks anyway for participation and inspiration, Imke!

  • Using an existing connection in the Excel 2013 file in Power Query

    Hi,
I've created an Excel workbook and a SQL Server data connection in this workbook.
When I open Power Query I cannot to use this created data connection.
In general, inside Power Query can I use a data connection created in the original Excel workbook?

  • Moving Power Query from Excel to SSAS

We are using Excel 2013 Power Query and PowerPivot to build data models that will be moved to SSAS Tabular. Are there any gotchas that will not import? I have seen in testing that we have to be careful about importing files. Excel likes drive letters and
SQL Server prefers the UNC path. We aren't likely to have many/any files in the production state, but I'm wondering if there are other gotchas like this, especially with Power Query.

    Any ideas for Mike?

  • Power Query for Excel - Need Help with Oracle SQL Syntax

    Hello everyone,
I am new to Power Query and am not able to figure this out.  I am trying to pull in data into my Excel spreadsheet using a specific Oracle SQL query.  While in query editor, how do I take the Oracle.Database function and add my SQL statement?
I already know what I want, I don't want it to download all the table names.  According to the help page, I should be able to do this but it does not provide a syntax example
Also, I don't understand what "optional options as nullable record" means.
Below is what function and arguments the help page notes.  How do I use this?
Oracle.Database(server as text, optional options as nullable record) as table
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Jessica

When I try this, I get an error
DataSource.Error: Oracle: Sql.Database does not support the query option 'Query' with value '"Select * from Owner.View_Name"'. Details: null
I'm trying to download oracle data from a view into power query - Power Query navigator does not list th eviews from my source, it lists only the tables. When I try write sql statements, it throws me the above
error. This is what I tried
     Oracle.Database("Source/Service",[Query="Select * from Owner.View_Name"])
Any ideas how to fix this?

  • Using Power Query in Excel for Power BI Report with OData Feedfack

I am trying to get the data into Excel Power Query from Dynamics CRM 2013 using OData Feedback.
Every thing works fine but the data that I retrieve in Power Query Editor shows columns as Record and when I expand it by selecting Value option shown it provides me the data in integer format whereas I want the name.
Basically it only provides me the value or id of the field from CRM, How could I obtain the Name field in it.

The documents should load but you won't be able to refresh your data. You should just see what was loaded to the sheet when you previously saved the document. Changes that you make in the iOS version shouldn't overwrite the PQ info and you should be able
to edit the queries and refresh when you load it back into a desktop Excel client. Please let us know if your experience deviates from these expectations.
