PowerPivot "Unspeficied Error" in connecting to data source

Hi I am a long-time heavy excel user but new to PowerPivot
I am running Windows 7, Office 2013 32 bit, PowerPivot for Excel 2013 enabled.
The machine is a corporate machine with heavy InfoSec controls on it
I have Administrative rights to this machine
Here is my problem:
I have a local excel file on my PC I want to use as the source
I launch PowerPivot
Click “Manage”
Click “Get External Data”
Choose Excel, add the path
Click “Test Connection” and I get an error “FAILED TO CONNECT TO THE SERVER. REASON: UNPSECIFIED ERROR”
I have tried different files, tried to link to Access and I always get the same message.
This is the first time I have tried to use PowerPivot on my machine
Help please!
It happens so fast it feels like something basic. Have not entitled PowerPivot?
Is this an InfoSec issue?
Is this a dumb user error in which I’m missing something obvious?
Since there’s no error message I don’t know what it is
I can’t find any record of this in the logs…

"An error occured querying a data source" - Web Service connecting to GetUserCollectionFromGroupSupport

I have an infopath form that is getting the error when opening an existing form or creating a new form:-

So I know its a permission issue because full control users have no problem. I have found a suggestion here suggesting making sure the group has "Who can View Membership to the Group" but that didn't work for me - and
my test user is only a member of one group -

How can I get around this without provding users Full Control?

So I fixed this with exactly what I mentioned above by adding "everyone" "Who can View Membership to the Group" permission. My error initially was that I was looking at the incorrect security group.

I have Power View on SharePoint 2013. I have both Multidimentional and Tabular model in use.
I have several Report.drlx file in Report libary in SharePoint.
My colleague is getting following error when building report by dragging Facts and Dimentions to report.

Hi Kenny_I,
As per my understanding, I think this issue may be caused by your colleague has no permission to access to data source 'EntityDataSource', it is a Kerberos issue. When report server uses ‘Windows authentication (integrated) or SharePoint user’ as the credentials
to access the data source 'EntityDataSource', the authentication would be failed. So we should try to check if the issue is in this scenario. If in this case, we should change the credentials to stored credentials.
Besides, if we don’t configure C2WTS Service Account to use Local System, it needs the following local policy rights:
Act as part of the operating system.
Impersonate a client after authentication.
Log on as a service.

An error occurred accessing a data source.

Hi,
I have seen many posts talking about this error but still i am facing the same issue. The process i have followed is:
1) created infopath form with receive data connection to SQL DB with plain username/pwd
2) placed the repaeating table of receive dataconnection, form has full trust
3) converted the dataconnection to udcx and stored it in data connection library of site collection
4) published the form for admin approval, and as i am the admin i have uploaded it and activated it
5) approved the dataconnection
6) i have modified the infoath settings to use SQL authen, data connection files , cross domain
But still i am getting this error:
An error occurred accessing a data source.
An entry has been added to the Windows event log of the server.

I have created a simple infopath form and in one of my dropdown box i am receiving the REST services.
when i run the infopath form 2013 in preview it was running good but when i upload it on to office 365 cloud it's showing me error. i had converted the services into UDL and save it on Data connection Library and it's approved.

According to your post, my understanding is that you got error when querying a data source in office 365.
Per my knowleadge, we cannot connect to SharePoint Web Services from InfoPath Forms within SharePoint Online.
Loopback protection is enabled on the SharePoint Online environment and will block calls to SOAP and REST from InfoPath Form Services.
For more information, you can refer to:

As a workaround, to look up data for some dropdowns from several external REST Web Services, we need to have a Data Connection library in your Site Collection in which to store the UDCX files.
The steps seem to be:
Create a Data Connection Library in your Site Collection
In the InfoPath ribbon, go to Data, then Data Connections. Your existing data connections should be listed.
Choose the data connection which is hosted on a different domain.
Clink the
Convert to Connection File… button
In the location selector, specify the path to the Data Connection Library you created above.
Leave the
Relative to site collection (recommended) radio button selected.
Click OK

According to your post, my understanding is that you get error when using the Web service GetUserProfileByName in InfoPath.
Have the InfoPath form template call web service in code? If yes, please see following KB and check if it is the cause.

Helpdesk Report Group Users - Cannot create a connection to data source 'DataSource1'

Getting the following error for a User accessing the report who is a member of the reporting group. If I add them as a sysadmin in SQL they can get access. What permissions need changing for this user group?

For a complete understanding of the permission and groups, I would rather suggest you to do the installation of the MBAM components in a single server infrastructure in a test environment.
Create the following domain security groups and use it during the configuration of the MBAM roles:-
1) MBAM Advanced Helpdesk Users
2) MBAM Helpdesk Users
3) MBAM Report Users
4) MBAM Read and Write Access
5) MBAM Read Only Access.
Create an application pool account and create a login in SQL for it. Use it only during:-
1) Configuration of "Compliance and Audit Database connection"
2) Configuration for All Web Applications.
If your application pool account is not a domain administrator, the run the following powershell command to set the service principal name :-
Setspn
-s http//<FQDN of MBAM Web Server> domain\<Application pool account>
Make sure the application pool account must be trusted for delegation.
That's all you need to do. Then after the installation you can check the properties of each group in SQL to verify the rights and permission assigned during the installation.

Processing data base failed: Cannot connect to data source

I have deployed my SSAS project to an Analysis services database on a SQL 2014 server instance using the "Development" build configration in Visual Studio. In order to avoid users accessing the development instance of the cube, I've created
an additional "Release" build configuration and deployed my project to a different database on the same server. I've also created a production copy of the data source and changed the data source configuration of the production cube to point to this
one.
I've provided the same domain service account on the "Impersonation information" tab of the data source for both the development as well as the production instance of the cube. This account has also been granted identical permissions for both data
sources. While everything works fine with the development database, processing the production database fails with an error message saying that it cannot connect to its respective data source.
I'm using VS Ultimate 2013.4, SSDT 12.0.50318.0. Any hints pointing me in the right direction are appreciated.

According to your description, your production cube can't connect to data source when processing. Right?
In this scenario, if both cube data sources are pointing to same source databases, both connection should work proerly. Since you created a copy of data source for your production cube, please make sure your type the right server name and test connection
in your project. If you can connect successfully, I suggest you only keep this data source for your production project. If the issue still persists, I suggest you import the development database into a new project and save this one as your production database.

ERROR WHEN GENERATING EXPORT DATA SOURCE

Dear Members,
I am getting an error when generating export data source for Info Cube. I'm creating an Info Cube based on already existed info cube. Literally I am copying all the settings of an info cube to new Info Cube. The scenario is to load the data from one Info Cube to the other. The creation of Info Cube from an Info Cube is successful. But the problem is when I am generating export data source the following error is occurred.
Error: Data Source 81c_svrr does not exist in source system B3TCLNT800 of version A.
what could be the reason for the error?

The problem is because of error in the Myself Connection , Check the Myself connection in the source systems and the activate and restore the connection and try, it should work..

Progress Reporter - Failed to connect to data source

Installed Progress Reporter and successfully call up the configuration page (http://WLS_server_name:7001/pr/admin/configuration) fill out the Database URL with the URL I use in SQL Developer (jdbc:oracle:thin:@db_Server_Name:1521:primavera) Public Group ID: 1 username: pubuser and password: pubuser. I put nothing in the Application Server section. When I click on save I get the message "Failed to connect to data source, please verify your settings and try again." I know the URL is correct as it connects using SLQ Developer. I have also created a datasource and pool using the same parameters just to validate the connection URL in different products.
Now I do get errors when starting up WebLogic
1) java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\prhome\primavera-configuration.properties ...

I am running on Windows 2008-r2 using WebLogic (64bit) and Java 1.6.0_27 (64bit); Progress Reporter installed in its own domain on a standalone (not managed) weblogic server
I've checked the configuration steps in the documentation (especially for the setDomainEnv.cmd and the PRE_CLASSPATH settings)
Any suggestions appreciated.
Are any of the errors (1 through 4) causing the issue of being unable to connect to the data source?

I have tried both privuser and pubuser. Both username/password combinations work when using sql-developer but not through the database section on the P6 Progress Reporter configuration web page.
I don't login as admin. When I enter the URL http://WLS_server_name:7001/pr/admin it comes up with the configuration screen that has the database and application server configuration sections.
The file primavera-configuration.properties is not created. If I create a blank file that removes the "java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\prhome\primavera-configuration.properties ..." message but it doesn't get any content.

Error while deleting the Data Source

Hi gurus,
I am getting an error while deleting a Data Source - "Source system XXXXX not found RSAR205".
but that source system no more available.
Is there any way to delete the Data Source.

An error occurred querying a data source - with REST services

Hi,
I have a SharePoint 2013 form library library with an info-path form. I need to get the logged in user's 'Display Name' on my form load automatically.
I used REST service to fetch the current user details. In the preview mode of the form, its showing the right name. But when I publish this form to library I am getting the following error.
REST Service --> http://site url/_api/SP.UserProfiles.PeopleManager/GetMyProperties
Please help me to resolve this issue.

Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that an error occurred querying a data source with REST services.
It is defiantly permission issue with GetUserProfileByName service
and could be many reasons of this problem. You first try with UDCX file and make sure that UPS is running.

Help needed on to write a program on connecting to data source

I would to program a class that connect to data source without any manually configure.
Is there other way that i could use intsead of using
db = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:Driver={SQL Server};Server=MyServerName;Database=MyDataBase","","");
My project requires me to use JDBC-ODBC Bridge on connecting to data source on client machine
Is there any other way?

It's so simple to do a JDBC connection using the same connection params, which you use for your VB program's connnection.
If your VB prog uses a system or user DSN configured via control panel, then use the same DSN in your Java prog.
