Powershell Add Network Printer Error

Hope someone can assist me in this.
I am trying to add a network printer using PowerShell but I keep getting the error:
Exception calling "AddWindowsPrinterConnection" with "1" argument(s): "The
printer name is invalid. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070709)"
    + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (:) [], MethodInvocationException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : ComMethodTargetInvocation
Here is my code:
$PrinterPath =\\server.domain.com\printershareName
$netPrint =new-Object-ComObjectWScript.Network
$netPrint.AddWindowsPrinterConnection ($PrinterPath)

Yes, the name is valid. If I run just a direct PowerShell on my workstation it adds the printer with no issue but when I run the script on a remote computer that's when I get the error.

  • Can't add network printer to my PC

I have an HP Color LaserJet 2605dn connected thru a USB port to a 5-year old computer running XP Home Edition with SP-2.  The printer is designated a shared computer.  I also have a Linksys wireless home network that operates flawlessly in every respect except for the problem below.
When I try to add the printer to my new HP Pavilion running Vista Home Premium with SP-1 (64-bit), I get a message saying the server for the printer does not have the correct printer driver installed.  When I pursue the "add printer" process to the bitter end, I get a Printer driver setup error (error Ox800f0214).
Can anyone tell me the name of the driver file that is missing, where I can find it, and how I can install it?

ON the Vista Home Premium x64 system go to Control Panel -->Printer --> select add printer and select network printer. Stop there. Now Click on the driver you downloaded from here. Once you begin the install with the exe file the wizard(that is already running)  should see the driver and install it. Alternatively you could browse for it with \\computername\printername (substituting your own relevant network names for the devices)
Have you tried physically moving it and installing the printer at the x64 system and then phyically moving it back to the other system where you already have it installed?   I know that beast is heavy.
Another option; Use universal extractor  and extract the drivers from the.exe files. Then you can easily see which one will work when you extract themto a folder and browse there when you add the printer and the location of the driver is needed.

  • Network Printing Error in 10.5.4

I get the following " Error: Syntaxerror; OffendingCommand: --nostringval'' for network printing to all HP printers. Other printers on the network work just fine. I can see the printer to add it but when I do so I always get a generic printer as the driver choice. I can manually look for the printer driver - for example an HP LaserJet 4100. Attempts to print simple text from any application get the above error.

    Welcome to Discussions.
I just googled for the error and it seems it may be postscript-related.
Since the driver doesn't work, could it be that it is corrupted? Have you tried removing and reinstalling the printer and driver? In a post here, related to Windows but HP laserjet printers (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1105046&tstart=866) it helped to try HP's Universal Postscript driver (last post in the thread).
I did see a post re installation of an HP 4000 on Windows (http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-3395388.php) that one shouldn't install the HP 4000 (admittedly slightly different than the 4100) as a network printer but as a local printer. Maybe that is relevant.
    Hope it helps some.

  • Canon iP4200 - an error occured while trying to add the printer Error -9672

It seems I am one of the hoard of folks unable to add my printer (in my case, a canon iP4200) to the Airport Extreme network.
    I have repaired permissions
I have reinstalled the lastest driver
I have read through the discussions
The airport was sold in part because "You'll be able to print to your USB printer with it."
Is there an Airport expert out there who can fix this?

What firmware does your base station have?
What version of the Canon driver are you using?

  • Can not add network printer

    Hi.
I installed HP Laserjet Pro P1102 on win 7, I checked it for sharing. trying to add it on winxp on same router but is not detected. I d/led file The HP Home Network Diagnostic Utility application "HPHNDU.exe" on pc that printer is attached to, can not find network printer.
    Please help - Thanks.
    Sinan

It might be possible to do this with an Airport Express. Your AE joins the network and the printer is connected to the AE. If you can get it cheap (g speed is OK).

  • Can't add network printer properly

I have tried to add a printer on my work network that I connect to through a wireless router. I am trying to add a Gestetner DSc 545. I have the proper printer driver for OS X. I added it via LPD protocol. When I try to print a page, it engages the printer, but I get many pages printed and not the one I wanted to print.
    Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like you've been struck by the "trick Mac users into buying the postscript add-on" hook. Postscript is optional for that printer, but the postscript PPD is what they give Mac users - assuming we'll spend the money for the add-on.
Depending on the version of Gutenprint you have, you should have a Generic PCL 5c driver, which will work. Or, you can get a more specific driver by following instructions here:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/showprinter.cgi?recnum=Gestetner-MPC4500DSc545
    Newer version of Gutenprint:

  • Add network printer?

i just got a linksys print server (wireless) and it configured without a hitch on my macbook pro, ibook and pc but how do you add a network printer in os 10.2.8?
    xelapond

10.2.8 has all the same options in Print Center - just arranged differently (some names are slightly different too). You're going to need to experiment a little - I don't have 10.2.8 handy to refer to.
To get more of the options to show at once, hold the Option key while clicking ADD, then select Advanced from the bottom of the menu.

  • Network Printer (Error - Printing) Will Not Print

    Hi,
We currently use a HP DesignJet 1055CM printer for all of our AutoCAD and plan drawings, which has recently gone on the fritz. Any print job sent from anyone in our network will make its way to the printing queue and be met with a Error - Printing status.  Additionally, even after all the documents are cancelled, a test page will consistently queue itself and post yet another error.  When the test page is cleared and the queue is completely empty, and print jobs sent will also be met with the same message.  This all recently happened when a co-worker added said printer to his (relatively) new computer.  He downloaded a the driver for the printer off the internet, and now no one can print.  I suspect that his driver was simply incompatible with the working one and now has caused this problem.  He was using Windows Pro. XP SP3 and downloaded the driver from http://designjet1055cmplus.com/drivers.htm.  Can someone confirm this diagnosis or point me in the right direction?  If it is a compatiblity issue, how can we revert back to the working one?  There is a computer not currently hooked up to the network that had the driver on it that worked, but I did not want to overwrite anything until I got some advice.  I may not even be in the right ballpark of thinking.
Thanks for your time and let me know if there is any additional information I need to provide or if I am outside the protocol of this forum.

    Hi haslet,
Have you tried checking to see if the cartridge is vented properly? Sometimes if the vent is clogged it can affect the print quality. See the link below for more details...

Please let me know if this helps.

  • Network printer error: the 'ipp' process stopped unexpectedly with status 1

i have [3] macs connected to my studio airport extreme network. i have a powerbook G4, with our plotter and epson photo R1800 connected to it. my mac book pro can print to the epson just fine, but my primary workstation [G5] will not print to it. i get an error message "the 'ipp' process stopped unexpectedly with status 1". please help, i need to print.
    - all printers are excessable and work via the airport network
    - the printer is available in the shared printer list [duh]
    - as stated above the printer connection trys to open than shuts down, over and over.
    - the epson use to be connected directly to the G5 and worked fine, the G4 as the proper driver and can print files fine.

You might try checking the Console log (in Utilities/Console) and look to see if you have this error:
    Dec 19 00:22:33 PowerBook crashdump[367]: PrintJobMgr crashed
Dec 19 00:22:33 PowerBook crashdump[367]: crash report written to: /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/PrintJobMgr.crash.log
You can also look in the above referenced /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/PrintJobMgr.crash.log file for any Exception for the PrintJobMgr process.
This currently seems to only affect PPC but not Intel processors. Is this the same for your case?

  • HT3669 HOW TO ADD NETWORK PRINTER HP LASERJET M1005

    HI
HOW CAN I ADD HP LASERJET PRINTER IN MY MAC WHICH WAS ADDED IN OTHER NETWORK PC WHICH IS WINDOW BASE

    Hi Vedarajen,
    I'd recommend visiting this link:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=1 839459&lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=1839458&taskId=135
Select your OS and download the available drivers. Once they are installed the printer should be available to select from as long as the printer is connected to your network.
    Hope this helps!

  • Desperately need help with a networked printer and SMB sharing for windows

Complete xServ newbie here. I'm a windows/novell admin, with limited experience in Unix and Linux.
Against my advice, a client of mine that owns a small office of 20 people bought an XServG5 to act as a server for 20 mixed Windows PCs. File sharing services are working fine. I've created the users, set up groups and rights - that's all good.
I cannot get an SMB shared printer to work from the windows machines. They run through the network printer install just fine, it shows up online, etc. However, when print jobs are submitted they DO show up in the printer queue on the server, sit there for a while, and then get moved to the completed box.
They never print. There's not any indication that the job is even submitted to the printer. I can print to the printer just fine from the server itself, but the windows clients don't work, but they don't return an error message.
Print services are running on the server, I've configured the printer name to be less than 12 characters for the share, and indeed it does pop right up during the "add network printer" routine.
Ideas? I'm not even sure what questions I'm supposed to be asking, such is my ignorance of the OS. I do know that I followed the documentation to a T, and according to Apple this should work.
Thanks in advance for the help. I'm extremely frustrated.

We have the same problem. Our printer worked for about 2 years but failed similar to yours after a system update.
Can you go into the Windows service, Logs, Printer Service. Copy and paste the log here. What I am looking for is a line like lpr: CANNOTCONNECTCLIENT or something similar to this.
What I expect is that you have a problem where the cups defined printer is not usable. We can't get our problem fixed either - but am just curious if you have the same thing. We reloaded our server, applied all of the update and still cannot get it to work.
Again, I think it stems from the update.

  • Need Help: Printing on network printer

    Hi.
I have computer with shared printer. It has Fedora Core 5 operating system and CUPS.
How can I print from my computer that is based on Solaris 10 to this printer (from Mozilla for example).
I can access printer: print test pages and see it's jobs using HTTP:
    http://host_ip:631/printers/printer_name
I tryed to add access to printer using Printer Administrator, in Print Server, I wrote: host_ip/printers/printer_name, but in Print Manager - printer displayed as "Out Of Service".
I was unable to input: host_ip:631/printers/printer_name because of error message: "server name invalid".
Also, I tryed to add network printer from Printer Administrator, I wrote in destination few variants:
    1. http://host_ip:631/printers/printer_name
    2. host_ip
    3. host_ip:631
    4. host_ip:631/printers/printer_name/
    5. host_ip:631/printers/
It works from Windows and Linux.
How can I print from Solaris to that printer?
    Thank you.

  • Error when trying to add a printer in the network

I set up a network at home w/2 Airport extreme units. One as the main unit and one as remote base station.
I connected a printer to the usb port of the remote base.
When I try to add this printer to my Mac I can see it (under bonjour printers) but I get an error each time I try to add it (Error: -9672)
    Any help will be appreciated

Two trips to the Apple Store solved it, with Canon input which helped to isolate problem.
First Trip: At the Apple Store, with my MacBook Pro, Time Capsule & Canon Pixma IP 5000 printer, wireless printing worked just fine, but at that time, the Genius did not connect TC to the internet. Here are the sequence of steps done by Genius Bar:
    1. Connect USB cable between Time Capsule & printer.
    2. Power on Time Capsule; waited til light was yellow flashing, meaning it was powered up. Genius ignored TC's alert that we weren't connected to internet
    3. Plug in printer.
    4. Turn printer on.
    5. System Preferences > Print & Fax preference > Click + sign to add printer. Printer appeared under bonjour printer, and then hit Add button. Selection worked and we could print at the Apple Store.
At home, I did not initially have success. My light on the Time Capsule was green. I remembered the Genius did our test with the TC light flashing yellow as he was not connected to the internet. So I started all over again, but this time I disconnected the ethernet cable between my cable modem and the TC. Followed all steps above but this time the Time Capsule light was flashing yellow. And it worked! Wireless printing was functional. Then plugged ethernet cable back into TC, and did appropriate start up. Then tried to print and got message: Error 306 A communication error has occurred.
Contacted Canon tech support. With 2 replies, the bottom line was "Canon does not support the configuration you have inquired about. This does not necessarily mean it will not work, but that Canon cannot provide assistance on this configuration."
Today, Trip 2 to Genius Bar: Brilliant lady did some thinking as I didn't have time this rushed morning to lug printer. She looked at my Mac's Preferences > Security > Firewall and saw my selection: "Set access for specific services and applications, with File Sharing, Printer Sharing, Screen Sharing, and then lots of apps like MS Word, Safari, iTunes, etc. " She said it may be a port problem and suggested I check "Allow all incoming connections". I got home, changed my Security preferences and wireless printing with the TC WORKED and is still working now.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Acrobat XI: Printing to networked printer fails without error message

    I'm using Windows 8 Professional.
When I use Acrobat XI Professional or Reader XI to print to a networked printer, Acrobat and Reader throw up the Progress dialog, showing the document is getting spooled. However, nothing appears in my printer's status window and nothing gets printed. There are no error messages.
When I use Windows 8 Pro's Reader app to print to the networked printer, it works just fine.
I thus have a workaround, so not all is lost.
However, how do I diagnose why only the Adobe applications on my computer can't use the networked printer?
    -- Tim
    Timothy J. McGowan

    Thanks for the advice.
The problem is not solved.  This is what i have tried.
    Attempt 1.
Log-in as Administrator via  "CRTL-ALT-DEL" twice at the Welcome window.
"Repair" Adobe Acrobat XI Pro installation.
    Same failure as described earlier.
    Attempt 2.
Log-in as Administrator via  "CRTL-ALT-DEL" twice at the Welcome window.
    Uninstall Acro XI Pro.
    Run :  acrobat_ittools_cleaner_p1_040612.zip
Log of "cleaner" shows deletion of very many, but ot all, Registry Acro-associated keys.
At end of uninstall and cleaner processes, re-start machine.
Log-in again as Administrator via  "CRTL-ALT-DEL" twice at the Welcome window.
Disable Norton 360 and Webroot Secure Anywhere prior to Acro XI Pro installation.
Re-install Acro XI Pro (this time, for "Default" choice, as opposed to "Complete" in previous installs.)
Outcome:  NO Adobe PDF printer.  HOWEVER, both during the "Repair" and re-install processes, a message did flash: "Creating the Adobe PDF Printer".
Both Repair and re-install:  The Adobe PDF printer is not listed under "Manufacturer" when "Add Printer" is executed (see image below).
Proceeding via "Have Disk", C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF\AdobePDF.inf,  yields the failure to install the driver previously described, for all ten (10) instance of the Adobe PDF Converter options.
    Thanks for any insights.
