Pre loading pages (Enhancement request?)

What's the usual way to preload an APEX page?
Both Metalink and Ask Tom demonstrate what I'm after. Basically, when I first navigate to a link, I get a 'Your page is being loaded' message which then automagically refreshes to what I was looking for when the page load is complete.
They seem to be independant pages and the desired page then does appear to display without delay.
How can I acheive this behaviour in an APEX environment?

Hi Ben,
Have a look at the following:

• Safari for iPod Touch now tries to reload, wipes out pre-loaded pages

Before Friday, June 4, I loaded important web pages into my iPod before I left home while I had an internet connection, and as long as I don't try to refresh them, they stayed in the browser. After Friday, Safari tries to reload them from the server when I am not connected, and thus wipes them off. I save bus schedules in there and since there is no wifi on the bus, I need those schedules to remain in the browser, and they did until Friday. Is there a setting for Safari such as "Do not try to download from server when offline" that was added that day? Thanks.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Mail Contents of this Page. In your e-mail client, send that file to yourself.
Go here for instructions to use your iPod as a storage device: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1478
Connect your iPod to your computer. Double click the iPod icon when it appears on your Desktop.
Copy/paste the contents ONLY of the e-mail to a new text document then File/Save As. Give the document a title: Bus Schedules. Now move that file to the Notes folder in your iPod.
More help here in case you need it for Storing and reading notes - iPod

• Edge Animate Pre-loader Safari Bug (Mac osx 10.10.1)

Published to web edge animate composition gets stuck on pre-loader page when composition url is refreshed. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hello animationtest400 . I have the same problem as you can see in this post: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1648309 I encourage you to disclose your problem in that post so that we can gather our ideas together and solve it quickly.

• Cant hide or get rid of pre loader bar. Please help

Ok why wont this work?
Trying to do a
Navigation bar button , to preloader to abour me page with a photo component.
Not on the pre loader page the bar works, only it wont disappear.
[pre]siteLoader.loadMovie("AboutMe5.swf",4);
Frame_movie._alpha = 100;
loadingBar._alpha = 100;
loadingBar._xscale = 1;
loadingBar.onEnterFrame = function()
        kBytesLoaded = this._parent.siteLoader.getBytesLoaded() / 1024;
        kBytesTotal = this._parent.siteLoader.getBytesTotal() / 1024;
        percentage = Math.round(kBytesLoaded / kBytesTotal * 100);
        this._xscale = percentage;
if ("percentage" ==99) {
        loadingBar._alpha=0;
        Frame_movie._alpha=0;
            delete this.onEnterFrame;

}[/pre]
The nav bar has the following script
[pre] Button_AboutMe.onRelease = function(){
unloadMovie(4);
loadMovie("AboutMe_Loader.swf",4);
}[/pre]
The loaded film used to just have  as the script
stop();
now I added this script to the final AboutMe5.swf file to try and hide the bar but does not work, also tried using different layers and the unloadMovie(4); script. It did not work.

[pre] unloadMovie(4);
loadingBar._alpha=25;
Frame_movie._alpha=25;
SiteLoader._alpha = 10
//    loadingBar._alpha=1;
//    this._alpha=1;
        //Frame_movie._alpha=1;[/pre]
Now Frame_move is a mov (and tried button) and  the laoding bar is a mov file. I can make these fade by adusting the alpah but this only works accross the film. I cannot trigger it with the line.

[pre]if ("percentage" ==99) {[/pre]
Ive tried with and without single and double quotes. and plane.
tried replacing percentage with
this._xscale
loading bar
Nothing works.
it appears to be the if script thats the problem not triggering the fad or gettig red of the pre loader altogether.
Please help

Now the above was a regualr download speed, ie just set to test movie. The below was 56k speed. Note when slowed you have an incremental section. Now this mirrors when the bar works . It tends to only workd with slow speeds on simulate download.
In neither case with a straight copy and paste of your script could a pre loading bar could be seen.

• Page Component View - Enhancement Request

Minor enhancement request:
Add a link directly to the Javascript section of the Page attributes, similar to HTML Header, Template etc.
This would also have the benefit of being able to determine if functions were declared in this section w/out having to drill into the page.
Thanks!
Jeff

Hi plantm,
After testing the issue in my environment, I can reproduce it. After we change a column name which is used in a Power View chart, Power view will render the message that” The external data connection has been disabled for this Power View report. Please enable
the connection.” when we reopen the file.
To fix this issue, we can click Refresh button under POWER VIEW menu, then it would prompt us that” Power View was not able to complete the action due to a query failure. This can happen if the structure of your data has changed, in which case closing and
re-opening the application will resolve the problem.”
According to the error message, we should try to reopen the file to fix this issue. Power view will render the message that” Please refresh to see the data for this Power View Sheet. You can set properties in the Connection Properties dialog so that the
data refreshes automatically when you open the file.” when we reopen the file. Then we can refresh it again, the report will be displayed without that field.
Based on my research, inherently what the message means is that Power View cannot be used as a tool for snapshot reporting. With an Excel PivotTable, we can see the data last saved in the PivotTable. Power View, however, does not behave the same way – it
won’t render the last saved state. If we want to avoid this message when we reopen the file, there are two methods:
When we create the Power View report, we can select the checkbox that “Refresh data when opening the file”.
After it’s been set up, go to Connections on the Data menu, then choose Properties.
For more details about the settings, we can refer to the following blog:
http://www.sqlchick.com/entries/2013/3/30/creating-a-power-view-report-in-excel-2013-which-uses-an-ext.html
Hope this helps.

• Pre load whole page?

Anyone know how to do this??
Many thanks, Damien

Hi
You can either do it as a 'normal' javascript 'pre-load', or as an ajax (xhtml), 'on document ready' function.
However there is no real advantage (only disadvantage), for your users, as they will have to wait for both pages to load, before they can view the initial page.

• Pre-load form values before create a new Support Request

We are trying to send some values to the CRM from our system, So a User just need to click a button and He will see the CRM with some pre-loaded values, and then he will create the case after completing other fields.
Is possible to send POST - GET values?
Any suggestion?
Thanks

The values are dynamic, so is not possible to use always the same default values.
Right now we are creating the cases using a web service when someone clic on a link. The main problem here is that our users doesn't complete all the fieds and they close their window. so we have a lot of "cases" created without the entire information. That's why i'm looking a way to complete a form without using a web service (because it creates the cases)

• Enhancement request -- multiple conditional breadcrumbs

i've got a page that is called from 3 other pages, so the breadcrumb path is different for each calling page
i need the correct breadcrumb path to be displayed on the called page
since a apge can have only breadcrumb entry within a breadcrumb structure, the only way i can figure out to do this know is to build an additional breadcrumb and associated entry for each additional path, then create (not copy) an additional breadcrumb region on the target page, setting it to the additional breadcrumb; conditions on the multiple breadcrumb regions can then determine which one should be displayed
is there currntly a better way to handle this in Apex 4.1?
if not, my enhancement request is to make it a lot easier to have dynamic or conditional breadcrumb hierarchies rather than require multiple pre-defined breadcrumb structures -- ideally this would be part of a generalized way of tracking the 'calling stack' of pages so that 'return to caller' can be more easily implemented rather than requiring custom code to track this.

Hi Chris,
Currently there is no option to set a conditional display on a chart series query, however this feature is already on the list of enhancements that are being considered for our next release....so hopefully that option will be there in a future release.

• Vote on (option to pre-load JVM)

Greetings.
I wish to draw your attention to an RFE (request for enhancement) that could use your vote.
The RFE is asking for the jre to have the option of preloading the JVM at startup. Once loaded, the new 'tray icon" service would be responsible for keeping the rt.jar library loaded (which basically means waking up every once in a while and executing something inside of rt.jar).
This would be an option that is turned OFF by DEFAULT. The user would have to go into the java control panel to turn it on.
Why do this you ask? Well I did some extensive testing on cold start times between 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6. See the link at the bottom. The upshot was, that a huge amount of time is spent loading the jvm and rt.jar. All of the lazy loading technologies really didn't help. So, for those willing to have YATI (yet another tray icon), please give the option of preloading the jvm. You see it with other products, like QuickTime...
Please vote and leave your feeback at:
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6346341
The orginal thread that started it all (lots of benchmark data):
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3962327

You have good points. Perhaps it is my ignorance of windows internals - but let me take a stab at this and perhaps clear a couple of things up (for me at least).
1) I think you are correct that the JRE footprint size is an issue especially when you compare it to something like quicktime. In defense of the RFE, it is precisely for that reason that I recommend that the option be off by default.
2 and 3) The tray icon isn't the single JVM of the system. It is an instance of the JVM that is providing a service. Let me take a stab at how I would implement it.
The java tray icon becomes a loading service that pre-caches the jar files in memory and cycles through them (to keep them in memory). When a local JVM instance is invoked, be it a browser or local application that instance of the jvm would query for the existance of the java tray service and if present, use it to load rt.jar etc. from its memory cache.
Hope that makes sense.
-Dennis
Personally I think the idea of pre-loading the jvm
like a tray icon would be a bad thing overall. I see
your point however:
1. First + Foremost java takes up too much memory.
Just running simple hello world apps now take tens of
megabytes to run simply because of the (bloated) size
of the JRE. It's not like quicktime which can load a
stub in < 1 Mb this is a bear
2. What happens when someone calls System.exit()? I'm
guessing your answer is "well the JVM restarts" but
what about all the other apps running on that JVM? It
would kill them too. Beyond that one java app(let)
could start interfering with another java app taking
memory making environment changes etc.
3. Possibly my biggest best reason is that almost all
real commercial java applications need more memory
than the default allocated by just calling 'java ...'
how would we know how much to allocate when starting
the jvm? Or we could allocate at runtime and fragment
memory all to ****. Anyway you get the idea

• Pre-load LOV

Is there a way to pre-load a LOV that will stay in memory per session? I have a large table from which I pull a LOV. I have the LOV on almost every page so that when I go from page to page, it takes too long for the page to load. Any help is appreciated.
John

Hi John,
in APEX you are not able to store anything in global package variables because
1) Apex just gets any available database of the connection pool when it has to render a page => so the chance that you would get the same session with the next request is low
2) mod_plsql issues a reset package state after APEX has rendered the page => will clear all global package variables.
But there is always another solution! :-)
I hope that the output of the lov isn't that big and it just cost intensive to get the data, that's why you want to store it, right?
As a workaround you can use a "Collection" which you pre-load and use in your lov query. See online help for details. There is also an article about them in one of the last Oracle Magazine's.
Hope that gives you a direction where to go

• Adding a pre loader to an XML photo gallery between the photos.

Hey,
I have made a photogallery in actionscript 3 which uses an .XML file to import pictures. As the user clicks on the displayed image the code loads the next image in the cycle into the display. Now, I would like to add a preloader which displays the loading progress of each image as the user clicks (otherwise there is just a blank area as the image loads). I have made a pre-loader for the main .SWF but I can't figure out how to make it work for the images or how to make a seperate one for the images. The fact is that I am a bit of a muppet when it comes to AS3, and am finding myself getting lost an confused quite easily.
I have attatched the .FLA if that helps any! If not then...
here is the link to the .HTML page that contains the .swf:
http://www.davidframpton.co.uk/portfolio.html
Here is the code I am using for the main pre-loader held in frame 1:
stop();
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, loaderF);
function loaderF(e:Event):void {
        var toLoad:Number = loaderInfo.bytesTotal;
        var loaded:Number = loaderInfo.bytesLoaded;
        var total:Number = loaded/toLoad;
        if(loaded == toLoad) {
            removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, loaderF);
            gotoAndStop(2);
        } else {
            preloader_mc.preloaderFill_mc.scaleX = total;
            preloader_mc.percent_txt.text = Math.floor(total * 100) + "%";
And here is the code for the photogallery:
stop();
var xmlRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://www.davidframpton.co.uk/galleryData.xml");
var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader (xmlRequest);
var imgData:XML;
var imageLoader:Loader;
var rawImage:String;
var rawH:String;
var rawW:String;
var imgNum:Number = 0;
var checkSec:Timer = new Timer(100);
var numberOfChildren:Number;
xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, xmlLoadedF);
master_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, nextImgF);
master_mc.buttonMode = true;
function xmlLoadedF(event:Event):void{
        checkSec.start();
        checkSec.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, checkerF);
        imgData = new XML(event.target.data);
function packagedF():void{
        checkSec.removeEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, checkerF);
        rawImage = imgData.image[imgNum].imgURL;
        numberOfChildren = imgData.*.length();
        imageLoader = new Loader;
        imageLoader.load(new URLRequest(rawImage));
        master_mc.addChild(imageLoader);
function checkerF(event:TimerEvent):void{
        if (imgNum == 0) {
            packagedF();
        }else if(imgNum < numberOfChildren){
            imageLoader.unload();
            packagedF();
        }else {
            imageLoader.unload();
            imgNum = 0;
            packagedF();
function nextImgF(event:MouseEvent):void {
        checkSec.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, checkerF);
        imgNum++;
I would really appreciate any help. Even if your could guide me to where I can learn how to do this myself in an simple fashion, I would be greatful.
Thanks in advance
Dave

The Loader class has a contentLoaderInfo property that is a LoaderInfo class object.  You can assign an event listener to the contentLoader Info that listens for PROGRESS.  There is an example in the Loader class section that shows the contentLoaderInfo property being used for a variety of event detections, including PROGRESS.

• Enhancement Requests for AWM10g

Hi, before I start in on the enhancement requests I want to say that I am pretty impressed with AWM10g. Definitely a huge step forward in creating AWs. Having said that, I think there are a few enhancements that could be done to the tool to make it even more user friendl.
Note that these are in no particular order, just ones I came up with while using the tool. I'll add any others that I come across.
Please don't take this as nit-picking - just trying to help make it better.
Thanks!
Scott
1. On dimension hierarchy types, instead of "value based" call it a "parent / child based" (thats what everyone knows it as)
2. When creating levels, allow more than one level to be created at a time (currently it closes the dialog after each level is created, forcing you to go back and choose "create levels" over and over again). This may be as simple as having a "Save and create another" button or something.
3. When typing names in the "system name" boxes, it would be nice if we could simply type the descriptions using spaces, and have the system name automatically replace with an underscore. Right now its a bit tedious to remember to type all names using underscores.
4. In "mapping" view, move HELP, APPLY, and REVERT buttons off of bottom status bar and up to the top toolbar. There is lots of unused space at the top, creating a second bar at bottom just eats up screen real estate
5. On "create dimension" dialog, no need for an entirely separate tab for "implmentation details" (that only has two values - generate unique keys or use the existing keys). Put this on the front tab so users don't have to keep selecting over to it (unless of course there are additional values that can show up there?)
6. Mapping dimensions with multiple hierarchy - seems odd that we have to remap shared levels. Is it possible to make this where you would map all the values in the first hierarchy, and then only map the "missing" levels in the second hierarchy? Seems like an opportunity for hosing things up
7. Drag and drop ordering when setting up the dimensions in a cube would be nice. Interface is the same as prior version of AWM (pretty clunky)
8. Bug - when typing in any "name" field, if you highlight the entire field and delete all characters, under the "description" fields only a single character gets deleted.
9. When there are multiple hierarchies for a given dimension, some sort of visual indicator of which one is set as default (without having to drill into details of each one)
10. Its difficult (impossible?) to resize panes (for instance, when doing the mapping). Seems like sometimes I click on something by accident (other than the < and > arrows) that resizes the panes, and then I can't figure out how to get them back (other than exiting and restarting)
11. When writing template out to same name as one that exists, AWM2 is not giving a "do you want to overwrite" prompt
12. Some sort of clear visual indicator or message when a dimension is not completely "mapped". I had a dimension where I mistakenly forgot to map the leaf level dimension member. I didn't find out about it until I ran a load and the load blew up.
13. On the XML logging at the end of a load process, the dialog box isn't big enough to show entire error messages if they occur. Since I haven't found a way to actually write the output to a txt file, this makes it hard to debug what is wrong with a solve.

Anthony - thanks! In the meantime, I've come up with a few more requests / suggestions (and will probably have a few more yet to come...)
Thanks again!
Scott
1) Rather than just showing the "working" bar while a load / solve is going on, would it be possible to replace this with some sort of functionality that queries against the OLAPSYS.xml_load_log table? And perhaps allow the user to click "refresh" or have it auto-refresh at a certain number of minutes so that users can actually see the progress being made?
2) Since CATALOG view is no longer available, remove the options to have AWM write the log files

• Pre-load servlets from a war-file

Hello,
              is there a way to pre-load a servlet (or execute any other code)
              at server startup, when the application is deployed as a .war-file?
              I know how to use the weblogic.servlet.utils.ServletStartup and
              the weblogic.system.startupClass... property, but these two
              seem to require that the servlet (or application class, respectively)
              are found in the servlet classpath (or the weblogic.class.path,
              respectively), so these mechanisms cannot peek into war-files to find
              the class, am I right?
              The page http://www.weblogic.com/docs51/classdocs/webappguide.html#dtprops
              says:
              <load-on-startup>load_order</load-on-startup>
              (Optional) This property is not honored by WebLogic Server in this release.
              Is this still valid?
              Is there a workaround?
              When will this element be supported?
              Concerning a possible workaround, I have read:

              That sounds like a possibility, but I do not understand exactly.
              1) Where do I have to put the line into the shell script?
              2) Which line is it?
              3) What is the UNIX utility?
              I am using WL 5.1 (evaluation) under Solaris.

Yes you can load a java applet form a jar file.
Here is the code for internet explorer.
<body>
         <table align="center" border="1">
              <tr>
                   <td>
                        <object classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" width="10" height="10" codebase="/plugin/">
                        <param name="code" value="XXX.class">
                        <param name="archive" value="XXX.jar">
                        </object>
                   </td>
              </tr>
         </table>
</body>
</html>
Just replace the XXX.class with the class containing the init() method and XXX.jar with the jar file.

• Loading page animation while JSF page is being loaded

JSF 2.1
Mojarra 2.1.7
JBoss 7.1.1
The backing bean on my JSF page(s) are view-scoped, and during the initial request, the backing bean's @PostConstructor method may take some time to return as it is calling external systems that are outside of my control. Thus, during the RENDER_RESPONSE phase of the initial request to the JSF page, it may take, on average, 3 to 5 seconds to return ( sometimes longer than that .... which again, is outside of my control ). While this is happening, the page rendered is of course blank as the response has not been written yet.
Naturally, I am thinking of a way to show an animated loading image.
1) I have seen suggestions of using a4j:status and a4j:region, but these are only valid for Ajax requests, while what I need is something that I can use during the initial request ( not a post back ), of a JSF lifecycle.
2) Suggestions of using two HTML divs... one DIV shows the animated image while the other DIV wraps the real content, but is initially hidden. Then use window.onload() to swap the style of the two DIVs so that the DIV wrapping the real content becomes visible while the DIV wrapping the animated image becomes hidden.
But then again ... these DIVs will NOT be written to the response yet as I am still in RENDER_RESPONSE phase.
The only thing that I can think of is to:
3) Create another page whose sole purpose is to show the animated image, then somehow immediately forward the request to the real page. The animated image on the first page will hopefully continue animating until the final page is rendered.
What have you guys done ?

This was the simplest solution by far .. although there are some quirks to be deal with when using IE.As usual :/ It remains a questionable product no matter how many times they reinvent the wheel.
