Prefix Added to MS-Word Hyperlinks When Converting PDF

Software (on HPxw8600 Workstation, Intel Xeon 2.83Ghz, 3.25MB RAM):<br /> - Microsoft Windows XP, Version 2002, Service Pack 2<br /> - Microsoft Office Word 2003 11.8202.8202, SP3<br /> - Adobe Acrobat Standard, Version 8.1.2<br /><br />Basic Issue:<br />We are currently using MS-Word hyperlinks and converting the Word files to PDF by using the Adobe PDF macro menus from within Word.  The PDF links are not exactly the same and do not function as intended.<br /><br />Background/Details:<br />To universalize our links within the documentation system (users pull up the PDF document files from within the browser - this is an intranet system only), we are not entering a full file-path or URL link in the MS-Word Hyperlink dialog box field (this allows our unique search scripts to work universally, and avoids redoing all links on a server change that includes server name change).<br /><br />We enter the following in the Word file as a Hyperlink:<br />    /cgi-bin/cm/get_path.pl?detail=<docno> (where <docno> is the document number)<br /><br />On PDF creation, a drive designator is automatically appended to the beginning of the string (for whatever drive the Word file is on and PDF file is saved to - usually the same drive/directory):<br />    T:/cgi-bin/cm/get_path.pl?detail=<docno><br /><br />And due to the added prefix, the link no longer works witin our final publication visibility system.<br /><br />Do not know how to stop Word/Acrobat (whichever is the culprit here or both) from doing this so we don't have to go back to creating every link on an individual basis in the PDF file every time we revise the document.<br /><br />We used to enter a full URL or file path, but since our change in text string, this has begun occurring.  Also, the PDF file now has this as "Execute a menu item" as formerly, it would be "Open a web link" so we can not edit the link to remove the "T:" prefix as with the "Open a web link" designation.<br /><br />Would like to know what is causing this and if we can turn of this behind-the-scenes auto-correction, or possibly change a setting to allow us to edit the link in the PDF file to remove the prefix rather than having to go back to creating each link individually.<br /><br />Thanks,<br />    Bob Kass

Depends on the version of WORD. With OFFICE 2007, go to the Adobe menu and select Create PDF (this is PDF Maker). That will save the links. A similar process is needed for OFFICE 2003. With OFFICE 2010, you will have to upgrade to AA X or add them in Acrobat manually.

  • Why does all alphabets change to capital when converting pdf to word using Adobe Acrobat XI

Why does all alphabets change to capital when converting pdf to word using Adobe Acrobat XI

Word 2013 uses its own pdf creator engine as far as I know. The step I performed were:
1 - In the save settings I told word to embed fonts (sorry for the language, I have the Italian client)
2 - Export from Word -> Save As -> .pdf adding also the table of contents/index
N.B. I cannot use PDF/A, and in any case it doesn't embed the font
A working solution is to use Acrobat XI to convert it or print with Adobe PDF printer, results:
    The problems are 2:
1 - It doesn't create any bookmark and doesn't create links from the table of images to the linked images
2 - Images, also with the preset "High Quality Printing" customized using "No compression", are really ugly and if you zoom a bit more than 100% they totally be s**t. It wasn't that way with PDF created by word.
In the end, or I find they way to open the pdf created by word and embedd the missing font, or I find a way to make Acrobat XI creating bookmarks from the word file.
    Suggestion?

  • Why do i always get conversion failure when converting pdf files to xls in exportpdf program?

I have had export pdf for months.  I cannot export pdf files to excel files.  It always says conversion failure. Anyone have any idea why this is happening?  I am so frustrated!  This was supposed to make my payroll reports easier, but it has not helped at all.

    Hi denise/sharon,
I can understand your frustration. Are you converting via the ExportPDF website, or from within Adobe Reader? Does the conversion failure occur every time that you try to convert a file (has it ever worked for you)?
Since you're talking about payroll, I'm assuming that you're accessing ExportPDF from a corporate computer. You may want to check with your IT department to make sure there are no firewall/proxy settings that limit your access to the Internet.
Also, make sure that you're using a supported web browser. You can find a list here: System Requirements | Adobe Acrobat Pro and Online Services
Finally, if you're using Reader, you can try disabling OCR (optical character recognition) by following the steps in this document: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (OCR) when converting PDF to Word or Excel.
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Problems with hyperlink when converting .docx to .pdf using Word 2010

I have a Word 2010 .docx document that has a link to a web site in it. The link works fine in Word, but does not work after the conversion to PDF. I am using the Acrobat add on in Word to create the PDF.
There is a pound sign ( # ) in the Word doc hyperlink and it is being changed to a percent sign ( % ) during the conversion to PDF. Any suggestions?

I will report the bug. I had read about some other problems with .docx files so I saved the .docx to .doc and then converted but I got the same results.
    Thanks for the feedback.

  • A better way to deal with lost hyperlinks when converting Robohelp to Printed doc?

I have inherited a 750-page manual that is
"single-sourced" in RoboHelp X5. When I generate printed
documentation, all of my hyperlinks and converted to plain text.
Everytime we release a new version of the manual with any changes,
we have to re-generate, and then manually go into the MS-Word
converted document and re-create some 350 hyperlinks and page
number references. Somebody please tell me that there is a better
way to do this, or a better tool to manage single-source
    documentation.

Another post has been raised relating to this problem. See
    http://tinyurl.com/yvpaut
I am replying here is this is where most of the relevant
    information is.
You found that using the Style Mapping template solved the
images problem but the document stopped generating at 450 pages.
That was sort of what I hoped for. Rather than go to the step I
will suggest in a moment, I suggested you try something else but
you never came back to the forum to indicate you had tried it, so
the assumption is you did and it worked. Patently it did not so
let's try what I would have suggested next.
On my website there is a topic on Print Issues and one of the
them covers Malformed Topics. Try looking for <p
style="mso-bookmark: as suggested in my earlier reply in this
thread. You can try RH's Multi file find and replace but FAR from
    http://www.helpware.net/FAR
may get better results. I think with this error you usually get a
message. Do you have the Output pane opened and have you read right
through it for clues? View | Output on the menu. Whether or not the
Output pane mentions this error, I would search for it anyway.
    Other Points:
A] It could still be a resource problem. The document is very
large so, as Harvey mentioned, resources come into it. I know the
PCs that won't play nicely have good resources but whilst I am no
expert in this area, don't foget XP is using more of them leaving
less available to you. It could be an issue but I am inclined
    towards it being something else.
B] I also suggested a hunt for a rogue topic.
"What I would try is copying your layout so that you have
three versions of it. Then delete two thirds from each one. If all
three work fine, it sort of confirms that size is a problem. If one
fails, your on the track of the rogue topic."
Did you try that? Like I said, if all three work fine, then
we are back with the resource problem but we will have ruled out
other issues. It should take less than fifteen minutes to set that
up. Longer to run it but you can be doing something else at that
    point.
C] On FrameMaker, no real answer but you will soon see
evidence that Adobe are continuing to better integrate all the
products we are using. I don't think you will see what you want in
    the upcoming version though.
    NEXT:
    1] Please search for <p style="mso-bookmark:
2] If that fails, try creating the three layouts.
3] Then post back how it went. If unsuccessful, tell us if
the Output pane gave any information about things the process did
    not like.
Let us know either way as if one succeeds and you post that,
it helps the next person with the same problem.

  • Problems with hyperlinks when converting

Hello, i use the online pdf creator. I have a document that is in microsoft publisher (originally from word) and when i convert it to PDF only a few of the links actually work, the majority of the links are just underlined words with no hyperlink. Also i have anchor tags that go from the table of contents to the actual page and none of them work.
I checked the Enable Tagged PDF Generation and still nothing, anyone have any ideas?

I just wanted to add that I tried an actual Microsoft Word 2003 version document in the Create Adobe PDF Online and set the tagged links so the hyperlinks and table of contents bookmark references would carry through to my 'e.book' file, however, I feel like the underdog here, as I didn't even get a PDF file, I received an error about the printer timeout exceeding the 10 minutes.  I'm not sure why it took so long to lock up (or whatever it was doing) as I have no pdf for review.   I decided to try the Post Script functionality, and found no help there as of yet, as the instructions on the Create Adobe PDF Online site do indicate where to find the Windows Drivers, the rest of the Adobe Download site area seems to not offer the same and the drivers are not to be found!   I must admit that I am also lost as to why there were some informational bits to add the PDF printer to your pc, but only for those with winxp, and 2000.  I have a pc with vista, does this site not support any of vista?  (I also have XP laptop & desktop, but they both have Adobe acrobat -- 5.0 & 7.0)
(i know -- why am I using this online version?  Well, simply, the 5.0, nor the 7.0 would finish conversion of this simple word document with tables in it.  I've never had a problem before, and don't know what changed to make this complication, however, it seems to be getting no better.
So -- be happy you are on the PDF file-receiving end of the Links issue -- it could be a lot worse!
Maybe before I have to upgrade again, I'll find someone else who has experienced such a bizarre thing, and can get my document out where it needed to be 3 weeks prior to now!
Anyone have any ideas that might help this poor, confused person who is at wits end without some expert finger pointing??  I'll take any suggestions at this point!

  • Why do I keep getting an error message when converting PDF to word?? help please!

I just subscribed to the ExportPDF but is not working. I keep getting an error message saying "Conversion Failure" when trying to convert PDF file to word! I don't know what to do.

    HI tatamene,
I'm sorry that you're having trouble converting a document.  For starters, have you verified that your account is active? (You can check by logging in to www.adobe.com and checking under My Subscriptions and Services). Aside from that, I'll need a little more info to get to the bottom of your problem.
Are you trying to convert the file from within Reader, or directly via the ExportPDF website?
What operating system and browser are you using?
How large is the file that you're trying to convert? (There's a file-size limit of 100 MB.)
Is the computer that you're using networked?
Do other files convert without error?
I look forward to hearing back from you.
    Best,

  • "artifacts" appear when converting PDF to CMYK

When using the Preflight "fixup" to convert a PDF to CMYK only (SWOP), I sometimes end up with jpeg-ish-looking artifacts being added around the edges of logos and in photos. I've been troubleshooting this for a while, changing settings and such, and I think I've determined that it happens with PDFs that have been generated using a lossy compression method. I have figured out a couple of workarounds, but since I process a lot of PDFs (sent to me by others) I'd really like to figure out a way to get the fixup to work when I "Analyze and fix"! Anyone have any ideas??
    -Jodie

Right, Jodie  . . . I may have a work around for you. Instead of running the preflight bit, use TOOLS, Action Wizard. I have attached an action which you must import using Edit Actions under the Action Wizard menu. Once you have imported the action called DAVID, you can choose to run it on a single pdf, or choose a folder of pdf's. You can edit the action and choose to save the converted pdf/s to another location or overwrite. All your users can import this action so you know that everyone is using the same format. This action checks and converts the pdf to CMYK and as a PDF/X-1A, which is a better format and embeds all fonts and extra bits and is better for a repro/print arena. I have tested it on the file you gave and no artefacts!!! If you want to know more on Action Wizard, go to this link.

  • Why do I lose my hyperlinks when combining pdfs?

    Hello,
I have a report that was converted from Word into a pdf. It has hyperlinks to other pdf files (appendices) that are in the same folder on my computer.
The hyperlinks in both the Word version and pdf version of the report work.
Until I combine all the pdf files (report+appendices) into one ginormous pdf document.
Then all the hyperlinks still look like hyperlinks (different colour and underlined) in the report, but they don't atually work.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!
P.S. I am able to recreate the hyperlinks by reselecting the text and recreating links in the final document, but I would prefer not having to do this over.

    Hey,
Firstly, you might need to let me know what version of Acrobat are you using.
Then, tell me whether you are first converting word files to PDF individually and then combining all those PDFs or directly combining all files to PDF.
    Hope to hear from you.
    Regards,
