Presario CQ50 Personal Desktop Not Loading?

Okay, I have a Presario CQ50. However, today I logged on after I got home from school, and when I tried to log on my account, like "Kelly" "Joe" "Jess", etc, my desktop did not show up. None of my programs were there, none of files, nothing was there. I tried restoring and such and it doesn't work. I also have Windows Vista: Basic (yeah I want to upgrade to Windows 7, I know Vista sucks)>

Hello tr:
Welcome to Apple discussions and thank you for your very very thorough post.
Your instincts to delete anything named "Norton" were right on the mark. Norton software is POISON to Macs running OS X. An additional software firewall is, IMHO, completely unnecessary. Turn on the built-in firewall in OS X - it is robust. In fact, if it is already on, there may be a conflict.
Go to Symantec's web site and use the uninstaller you should find there to get rid of the Norton stuff. After you do that, do a "find" on Norton and Symantec to be sure it is all gone - the stuff hides everywhere.

  • Compaq Presario CQ56-110US will not load up.

So.. the moment I press the power button, my Compaq Presario CQ56-110US notebook, will not load up. It only show the Compaq logo screen flashes black them shut down and restarts the process. It never makes it to the Windows login page.

    Hey @rajpodn ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're looking for info on swapping out the CPU in your notebook.
You will find everything you need here: Compaq Presario CQ56 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide. The instructions you need start on page 75. Keep in mind that the CPU itself may not be the issue, it could be the socket on the motherboard preventing the notebook from reading the CPU, so even replacing the CPU may not work, as you may need a replacement motherboard. I do not suggest replacing the motherboard as doing so requires HP Proprietary software to reinstall the Service-ID necessary for reinstalling Windows.
*Caution - If you do install the new CPU be careful with the thermal paste. A small pea sized amount should be more than enough. Put the paste in the exact center and carefully spread so there is a fine layer almost to the edge of the CPU. Remember that the heatsink will press very firmly onto the CPU and spread the paste more and you don't want any squishing out as this can cause electrical shorts if the paste has a high metal content.
The part you will want is: AMD V140 processor (2.3 GHz, 512-MB, L2 cache, 1066 MHz, 3.2 GT/s)—singlecore 25 W. The part number for this is: 616333-001.
You can order the CPU directly from HP here: HP Part Surfer, but you may be able to find it cheaper on sites like eBay, Amazon, or Newegg.
Hopefully this covers everything you're after!

  • Save file to desktop, not load in browser window.

    Hello,
I've created a page where I describe certian videos or audio files and then give the visitor the option to download that video or audio clip. These clips are saved as .mov and .wav .
My issue is that I set up a link to those files. When the link is pressed the video or audio loads into a new browser window and plays as opposed to giving the visitor the option to download the file to a location on their desktop.
I need these particular files to be downloaded as files to be saved on the visitors computer and not displayed in a new window.
Is there a setting within the Dreamweaver property inspector where I can set this. Is this a behavior that I need to apply to the link.
As far as the compression on the movie files. I used compressor in the final cut 2 suite to compress these as downloadable mp4 files instead of streaming.
    Thanks for any advice.

No. It's a behavior of the browser nad depends on how the user has configured it, plain and simple. Some browsers will play, some will offer to download, some will do neither and block the content. Anyway, it is good practice to contain data files in Zip archives, if they are meant for downloading. This will also prevent cross-platform compatibility issues and avoid possible damage of the data files.

  • Desktop not loading, I have to keep restarting computer and it doesn't always work!! Why???

everytime I turn on my computer it loads the basic desktop (factory settings one) with non of my icons or image.
Sometimes if I restart my computer it loads correctly and other times I have to keep restarting my computer.
This is extremely annoying can anyone help to fix this issue.
It is happening on both mine and my spouses computer and both computers are less than 12 months old!
    thanks.

    Hello m ember87un
What operating system are you running and what model of HP computer do you have? Based on your description it sounds like your user profiles may be corrupt or the computers are experiencing other problems. According to a Knowledge Base (KB) article from Microsoft this can also be caused by antivirus software scanning your computer what you try to log in. See the link to the KB below for troubleshooting steps if you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7.
As you can see in the symptoms Windows is loading a temporary profile for you. Do you receive any messages similar to "The user profile service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded."? Let me know what happens.
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" to those that help solve your problems.

  • Cisco Secure Desktop not loading on MB Pro

    Hello
I have a MacBook Pro that I use for work, and am trying to access my  work VPN via the Cisco Secure Desktop.  Up until approx two weeks ago,  it worked fine, but now I get the following message
I have Java 7 update 25 installed, and am using Firefox Mac version 22.
    Any help is appreciated !
    Thank You

I am seeing similar behavior. Hopefully what I'm seeing isn't drastically different, so as not to have hijacked your thread. (I hadn't keyed into the IE connection until you mentioned it, but once I check my logs, IE seems to be the common factor.)
Any of my VPN users with AnyConnect 3.1.3103 on Windows 7 (64-bit specifically) and IE 10 fail to pass my DAP policies. A virtually identical host with Windows 7 64-bit and IE 9 passes DAP. (I'm not performing any DAP check on IE at all.) After working on a little testing of my own, I intend to file a TAC case. If something interesting develops either in my testing or the TAC case, I'll update here.

  • HP ENVY Phoenix 810se Desktop not Loading

    Hello,
I didnt find any recent post regarding the HP ENVY Phoenix 810se Desktop with Windows 8.1.
My Envy is currently stuck in the screen just after the HP symbol is displayed. PC starts, HP symbol appears, "Please Wait" appears wth dots circling on a black screen, screen turns blue-this is where stays. Nothing I do changes it unless I hit the power button.
This started last night. I logged on like normal, stepped away to the watch the Sons of Anarchy that i had DVR'd. When I returned 20 minutes later, I saw 4 lines of the repeated statement. Something along the lines of boot discuss not found.
Any support would be greatly appreciated.

    Steadyhand, welcome to the forum.
The error message that you are receiving normally means that the hard drive has failed.  I suggest running  SMART from the BIOS.  This will tell you if it has failed.

  • Disk space full, desktop not loading

My work Mac Pro's startup disk is full, and when I login only the background and screensaver load. None of the keyboard commands do what they're supposed to except for force quit, and no toolbars or applications open (although after one restart iTunes tried to start itself up and I was able to get a toolbar from there and open up safari and a few other apps). How do I fix this problem?
The startup disk is one of four 2TB internal hdds

Install OS X somewhere for "Emergency system" of 30GB with all your system maintenance utilities.
    Clone your drive.
4 x 2TB and you load up the boot drive to full? HFS+ doesn't like it when gets down to 15% free or less.
Dont' use until it is cleaned up.
OmniDiskSweepr can help see if something abnormal is using too much space.
/Volumes/ is a good place to start looking.
    Any drive that didn't mount
Any torrent files or hidden files you don't know
NEVER run with only one system drive. A couple bootable backup clones and ONE that is ONLY used for maintenance and repairs.
YOu will want to use your 10.6 DVD but that lacks Finder
Maybe FSCK from Single User Mode
    Disk Warrior is a must
SuperDuper to clone your volumes - though I suspect and hope that you have two backup sets for each and every volume.
A couple off line external backup systems.
Room on one of your other drive for that "EDRIVE" of 30GB
You start for now with your OS X DVD, and maybe pick up a drive or two, FireWire even.
http://www.macsales.com/firewire - they also sell programs like TechTool Pro 5, Drive Genius 3, Alsoft Disk Warrior. All of those cost, but are also indespensible.
Force Quit is sure to corrupt the hard drive directory of your system and require more work to repair the drive - a task for Disk Warrior.

  • Desktop not loading!! Possible Quicktime Culprit!

I had downloaded a TV show (ok..ok..CSI Las Vegas, if you must know!)and was then informed that I had to have latest Quicktime to view. I had avoided getting this before, as I didn't want to have to pay for new "PRO Key". Nevertheless, I downloaded latest Quicktime, then got message that it couldn't be installed because it couldn't "verify"..or something like that. I repaired permissions, then went to update again. Quicktime was not available (listed)for update. I figure it must be installed. I restarted, but nothing showed up but screen-saver and dock. No program icons..nothing at the top. On the dock, Safari and System Preferences would BRIEFLY (nanosecond) flash the "unexpectadly quit" message. Nothing else on Dock worked at all. I ran Disc Warrior and TechTool and nothing has changed. Any ideas and/or suggestions would be appreciated. There are NO TECHS around here (remote, Southern Mexico)..so be kind..ok?
    Thanks,
    Dave in Xcalak

    Hi Sherry,
Thanks for response! Yes, I do have original Panther Retail discs (I upgraded from Jaguar)..and also have Panther upgrade discs. WITH ALL DUE RESPECT!!!..I'm going to see if any easier solutions come my way before I do a reinstall. Do you (or anyone) have any idea why this occured? Was it just "time" for something to happen, or did my Quicktime attempt trigger a malfunction!? I must admit, I've been feeling rather smug for the last couple of years here on the Caribbean..with salt and sand and water and wind always present around my computer..and it's been chugging along like a champ! Hope this is a simple fix. My wife's 10 year old Dell (which I'm using now) hasn't succumed yet..so I'm a little "vexed" by that!!

  • Cannot load my personal desktop after windows updates

Since a windows update when I switch on I get a temporary desktop, cannot access my personal desktop unless I do a restore to an earlier date.  Tells me I cannot access my files and to log off and on again, no use.  Do get the message temporary desktop see your administrator etc.  Any help PLEASE.

    Hi,
    You could try the following.
Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at f8 as you start the notebook to enter Windows Recovery Console.  Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and hit enter.  If windows will load in this mode, from the Start Menu, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools and launch System Restore.  Pick a restore point at least 24 hours before the log-on issue and then proceed with the restore process.  When complete, Windows will reboot as normal so check if you can now log in correctly.
Another option if the above does not help is as follows.
Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at f8 as you start the notebook to enter Windows Recovery Console.  Use the arrow keys to select 'Start Using Last Known Good Configuration' and hit enter.

  • Desktop Manager Will not Load. Hangs on splash screen when loading, then crashes

My desktop manager is not loading, and hangs whenever it is attempted to load. I have done a clean uninstall, removed rim registry entries, and did a fresh download and install 3 times with full shut downs between each attempt. I am running Windows 7 service pack 1 with an HP Laptop. It is an HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC. Product Number LY080UA. I hope that is enough information, but I will give more if asked and informed how to gather such info.
When I right click on the Desktop Manager Icon, I choose to run as Admin. Once it loads the splash screen shows. After a little bit (4-6 seconds) a small Icon appears in my systems tab at the bottom right of my screen. This stays for a little while and then goes away. After this happens the Splash screen hangs, and get a black border around it. If I click on the Splash screen it grey out and says not responding, prompting windows to ask me if I want to wait for the program or close. If I choose to wait, it will sit there and do nothing. If I close it will prompt windows to "look for an error" but has not yet been able to return an answer.
When I log into safe mode, Desktop Manager loads, but does not work well as only a bare bones set of drivers are enabled. If I turn off all but the non-essential services off using services.msc it will load, but again the services needed for it to run and the services for windows to be fully functional are not on at all.
I have attempted to turn off all but the Desktop manager in the start up, using msconfig, but that does not help either.
I am at my wits end here, and would really like some help with this. It loads up (desktop manager) on my Desktop, but I am unable to log that mammoth box around with me while I travel.
Thank you for your time and efforts, I will be very grateful for any and all help.

I'm having the exact same problem here! I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64. Please help! This was posted a month ago.

  • Images are not loading/not loading completely, persona previews no longer works with scrollover - even after complete uninstall/reinstall, but images work in IE - suggestions on how to fix this??

Images on websites often do not load or load incorrectly/incompletely load even after refreshing page and clearing caches. Often have to "clear recent history" 5 or 6 times within a single firefox session to get working links, images, completely loaded pages. The persona previews no longer do an "automatic preview" with a scroll over and now i no longer even get an image on the page to scroll over (images are just NOT THERE). I have done the safe mode test, have updated everything suggested, have checked all add ons as suggested in the troubleshooting guide and NOTHING shows as being a problem. I even did a complete uninstall and reinstall and it is STILL not working. Worried that it was an issue with my computer, i checked the pages in IE, and they worked PERFECTLY. I am uncertain what to do now. It started as a problem once or twice a week, and now it is EVERY time i bring up Firefox. Help?

the second article did offer a suggestion that SEEMS to have helped ::crosses fingers:: - an about:config, resetting of the preferences for images. we'll see how long it lasts. THANK YOU SO MUCH for the suggestion, the article wasn't one i'd found while searching for troubleshooting info.
Java script is enabled, but the persona's stuff still isn't working. dang it. WELL, one thing seems to work now, at least. thank you.

  • Creative Cloud Desktop App not loading certain pages

    Hello,
The Creative Cloud Desktop app is not loading the Home, Files, and Fonts pages. The only thing I get is the loading graphic spinning away. I've tried signing out then in, quitting the app, restarting the machine, renaming the OPM file to old, tried turning File and Font sync off - which it doesn't seem to do, checked the internet connection without any difference. The Cloud status page says everything is good.
I'm on an iMac running the GM of Mavericks. I've been running Mavericks beta for awhile and haven't had any trouble previously.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get to those pages?
    Thank you!
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
Does reinstalling the Creative Cloud app make any difference? There is an uninstaller in the Creative Cloud app folder in Applications. Also, does the same thing happen in a newly created admin account?

  • Desktop Site Not Loading Images or Accordian Menu

I have exported my site files and uploaded them to my server in a folder and the Desktop version is not loading properly. There are a lot of pages, so I haven't reviewed them all just yet, but it appears that the mobile version is working fine. For the Desktop version though, the images aren't loading in both Firefox and Chrome. The accordion menu is also not loading properly and the parallax scrolling isn't working. It had worked when I had only loaded the Desktop portion of the site but now it is not. It is also throwing me the following errors:

  • IMessage works on "Guest," not personal desktop

A few months ago I was having problems with my iPhone, and to make a long story short I ended up getting two replacement phones within a day from my local Apple store. Ever since I started using my new phone, iMessage on my MacBook Pro OS X 10.9.5 hasn't been working. I've looked through just about every thread on here trying to find a solution and I can't find one. iMessage works on the "Guest" desktop but not on my personal desktop. I've run out of ideas and have tried just about everything to fix this problem, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Here is almost all of what I've tried:
    - Repairing permissions
    - Trashed related preference files
    - Booting in safe mode and attempted to log in
    - Created another account on my Mac and attempted to log in to iMessage/Face Time
    - Reset time zone and date/time settings to "auto."
    - Disabling iCloud on my computer and re-logging in
    - Disabling Flash from storing data locally
    - PRAM reset
    - Checked my Apple ID to ensure there are no other phone numbers/emails associated
other users can not log in using their accounts.
