Present a UIImagePickerController results in temporary black screen

All,
I am developing an application that shows an initial page, then presents a UIImagePickerController with presentModalViewController:animated:.
After taking the photo, it returns to the initial page, dismiss the UIImagePickerController with dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:. Then save the photo and write a record in a table in SQLite database. It presents the UIImagePickerController again after triggered by tapping a button.
It works fine on iOS 4 and 5. But there is a little problem when running on iOS 6.
When the app re-presents the UIImagePickerController (that mean present and dismiss at least once before), the preview screen of the camera will be black for 5-6 seconds (for iOS 6 on iPhone 5, and 10-15 seconds for iOS 6 on iPhone 4 and 4S). And the console log shows the following message when the preview screen back to normal,
<Warning>: CoreAnimation: warning, deleted thread with uncommitted CATransaction; set CA_DEBUG_TRANSACTIONS=1 in environment to log backtraces.
I have already noticed that the old methods presentModalViewController:animated: and dismissModalViewControllerAnimated: are deprecated on iOS 6 and I have made necessary changes. But the problem continues.
Here is my code:
For presenting the UIImagePickerController:
NSString *requiredSystemVersion = version6_0;
if ([Utils checkCurrentOSVersionOlderThanVersion:requiredSystemVersion]) {
    [[self navigationController] presentModalViewController:picker animated:YES];
} else {
    [[self navigationController] presentViewController:picker animated:YES completion:NULL];
For dismissing the UIImagePickerController:
NSString *requiredSystemVersion = version6_0;
if ([Utils checkCurrentOSVersionOlderThanVersion:requiredSystemVersion]) {
    [[self navigationController] dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES];
} else {
    [[self navigationController] dismissViewControllerAnimated:YES completion:NULL];
where checkCurrentOSVersionOlderThanVersion: is for checking the OS version is older than the 6.0.
XCode version: 4.2 on Max OS 10.6.8
Would anyone can lend a hand for helping on this issue? Or it is some default behavior on iOS 6?
Thanks in advance.

  • TouchSmart 320-1050 Win7 Pro After Windows update, login results in a black screen + white cursor

    Hi ...
    After some Microsoft automatic upgrades were done om my HP TouchSmart 320-1050 this week, when I logged in after the reboot, all I got was a blank (black) screen and a white arrow cursor, which worked fine -but there was nothing -no video output on the screen. Even a <CTL><ALT><DEL> did not bring anything up on the screen and I had to force the system down with a hard power down. I tried with user logins and Administrator login but the behaviour was the same.
    I could boot and get a picture in SAFE mode but not with a normal boot and login.  There were NO ERRORS in the Windows event logs that seemed to shed any light on the issue.
    The system was shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium however I upgraded to Windows 7 Pro so I could join my domain.
    I couldn't diagnose the problem -with nothing showing on my screen- so last night I check what updates were installed to see about de-installing them from Safe mode.
    After de-installing the most recent Microsoft HotFix (KB2679255) and rebooting .... POOF!  I had my desktop displayed again after I logged in.
    I don't know what piece of software was interacting with this HotFix - but thought I should post the issue, just in case someone else encountered the problem... or someone in HP Support wants to investigate ... (Let me know and I'll supply what info I can.)
    Thanks

    thanks for letting folks know.

  • Transitions and Video FX result in blank/black screen

    Quite simply, the problem is that whenever I apply a Video FX or transition to a clip in iMovie, it'll work in the preview but once it's applied it leaves nothing but a blank/black clip in its place. I'm surprised to find that it seems that no one or or at least not many people have this problem.
    Please, does anyone have any advice or any suggestions? Having a useable iMovie would really make my life easier!
    17" PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    My sentiments exactly! I love the program but it is soooo time consuming correcting it's problems. I really don't have an answer for you other than I have black 'blinks' on some of my pictures, and no one answered my question so my alternative is to delete the picture, do it up again, apply it and slip it into the old place, and then it works. I also have problems with the photos. I'll click on the photo folder I want, and then the first picture, and the preview scroll bar shows it moving, but the screen is black. I have to toggle back and forth between show settings and closing it until it decides to show the picture - never know what I've done to cause it to work all of a sudden. Don't know if any of that has any relation to what your problem is but maybe somebody can see a correlation in there somewhere!

  • Plasma doesn't load on X startup - result is blank black screen

    Hello,
    I have just upgraded the X server to 1.6.0 and after the upgrade I've encountered some problems.
    After the splash screen is finished loading, all I get is a blank black desktop screen. No plasma, no wallpaper, nothing - the applications in the background do load however.
    I get yakuake working, skype, pidgin and all the apps I have auto loading on startup. Working like that however is a bit uncomfortable
    During the X upgrade I got an error about a file conflict (usual symlink conflict), which I removed and then upgraded X (eventually tried removing xorg-server and re-installing it, as well as -Syu upgrade)
    I was also using the 180.29 beta drivers from the nvidia ftp repo, which I now removed and installed 180.44 from pacman.
    No errors are being reported to the X log when X is starting either, although hwd -x returns the following:
    hwd -x
    Testing: kernel (2.6.29-ARCH) supports uevents
    Please wait...
    No Xserver installed!!
    I searched the forums for other similar problems but I could not find anything related.
    Any suggestions are welcomed.

  • Retina macbook pro boots to black screen

    I have a Retina MPB with SSD, etc. Recently after restarting my MPB, a FileVault dialog was presented - I clicked the "cancel" button. After this, my MBP has refused to boot past the initial Apple/grey screen, and instead, stays on a pitch black screen that displays only an active pointer cursor. Trackpad is responsive, as are all keyboard keys (they make the bonk sound after pressing many repeatedly).
    Sadly, nothing else -- I was able to reboot using "command+P+R" to the MacOSX Utilities screen, and no issues were found with my startup disk, but restarting once again resulted in the black screen that was displayed within seconds affter the Apple/gray screen went away.
    Anyone see this ever? And if so -- how do you resolve it???
    ~Douglas

    OK - next bit of discovery: I rebooted in SAFE mode (hold Shift while boot - which apparently turns off the graphics support) and it successfully booted...but returns to black screen on boot even after downloading and installing the new Retina Thunderbolt 1.2 software update that was recently posted.
    This had me recall one other recent "change" I made in attempts to have Aperture work a bit better/faster on what seems a very slugglish system...
    Really want this resolved asap --

  • [solved]black screen with xorg 1.6 after resume (intel)

    after upgrading to xorg-server 1.6 no matter if i use s2ram or s2disk, first resume works fine, the second suspend and resume results in a black screen without any chance to swich to any tty.
    i have read about bug like this which was resolved with using intel legacy driver. however my problem still occures.
    maybe there is some module i should load/unload/reload on hibernate/wake-up?
    here is my xorg.conf, lspci, Xorg.0.log.old (the one i had to kill with black screen) and Xorg.0.log

    took a look into everything.log.
    that line looks pretty suspicious:
    kernel: [drm:i915_get_vblank_counter] *ERROR* trying to get vblank count for disabled pipe 0
    it occures around the time i did the last resume.
    here is a relevant snippet from everything.log:

  • [SOLVED]Black screen Intel brightness

    Hello. This is my first post on this forum. Please bear with us. I use a gtranslator, because I do not speak and write English well.
    Arch Linux user I am already a long time and take part in polish forum. Here's my post on this matter: CLICK.
    I am forced to use the system (x86_64) with reduced versions of
    kernel26 2.6.36.3-2
    xorg-server 1.9.3.901-1
    xf86-video-intel 2.13.0-4
    My graphics card is
    00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
    The reason is that black screen, who appeared together with kernel26-2.6.37 (for the kernel26-2.6.38).
    I have tried other Linux distributions with the same versions of kernel26 to check whether the kernel is actually the cause of the problem. It turns out that YES.
    Yesterday on a separate partition I installed Arch with unlocked testing repository. I made complete configuration X(xfce4) and added user to all groups. Unfortunately, I only pre-load system. Log on to shell the user account and the execution startx is already taking place with the black screen. Graphical environment is loaded as if my monitor was only 10% brightness. To see what I'm doing on the desk, I have to watch from a distance of 5-10cm. Black screen appears regardless of whether the KMS is active or inactive.
    I join the logs to read: dmesg.log and Xorg.0.log.
    How to deal with this problem? Who should I report it?
    If you need more information ... please write and I'll try to put them here.
    P.S.:"I hope you understood what I wrote, but I know that it was not easy "

    of course :]
    Today I tried the experiment with GRUB.
    kernel ..... i915.modeset=1 acpi_osi=Linux
    kernel ..... i915.modeset=1 acpi_osi=!Linux
    In both cases the result was a black screen but the desktop is loaded "properly".
    kernel ..... i915.modeset=0 acpi_osi=Linux
    kernel ..... i915.modeset=0 acpi_osi=!Linux
    In both cases I am able to log into the shell of the adjustment increase 1024x768 resolution. After entering the startx environment is not loaded.

  • Black screen after installing Boot camp Win7 on iMac 27 late 2009

    I've run out of ideas as to how to fix this problem. I have a late 2009 iMac quad i5, Mountain Lion, 12GB RAM, 1TB HD (recently exchanged under extended warranty).
    I stopped counting how many times I have tried to get this up and running but I followed a whole bunch of 'how to's' on the net, including the official Appple guide, but I always end up with a black screen. I insytalled it from scratch using both, Apple drivers on CD and SD card and I can confirn that they installed correctly during my last try. That time I first installed Win Vista, then upgraded to Win 7. I took out the install DVD after first restart and left the SD card in its slot (correctly named, as suggested by Apple). the installation finished, the screen went dark for about 5 min, then the computer rebooted, the screen went dark again for another few min and after that the vomputer restarted again but this time all stayed dark and nothing happened for the better part of an hour.
    I also restarted from the Win install disk and tried to remove the ATI drivers using command lines, as suggested in one post.
    I need to run Win in Bootcamp because some application I use are very demanding so I need Win to run natively. In an earlier attempt I managed to boot Win7 from the Bootcamp partition in Parallels and I installed the Apple Drivers in that environment but it still resulted in a black screen. I also tried to remove the ATI drivers from Drivers directory manually in MacOS mode but the System wouldn't let me edit the Syustem folder at all, not even in Root user mode.
    I understand that I'm not the only one with problem and I feel for you, but please refrain from "me too" posts becuase it doesn't really solve my problem. Thank you.

    I presume that you've followed the instructions for sideloading the iMac Windows drivers into your install via USB stick? (wasn't aware the EFI recognized the SD slot as storage on boot. Now i know)
    I always found more success in just slipstreaming the drivers and install.xml file onto a custom Win7 DVD rather than the USB approach when trying with my Late 2009 27" iMac. The Win7 installer needs that enclosed .xml file in the driver package to tell it where to find the drivers so that they be loaded when the Win7 image extracts itself.
    If you're using mountain lion, then you should be receiving the proper Win7 driver set. If you wanted to create a custom image, then you can use an ISO file, the driver package and disk utility to make something you can use. Either that or you learn what edits your install.xml file needs to point the installer properly and check it manually.
    I don't know what links you have so i'll just include everything:
    Installing boot camp on a Late 2009 iMac:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173
    Direct link to Late 2009 iMac-specific Windows drivers.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL995
    I'd try a USB stick and the iMac-specific driver set. It should steer your insolent windows installer correctly.
    Hope this helps.

  • [Solved] Amilo XI 2550 - Black screen after fresh install

    Dear archlinux users,
    I have been reading the archlinux wiki and forums since I started using arch several years ago. It was always possible to solve the problems I ran into by consulting these webpages, therefore a big thanks to the community for the provided help.
    Two weeks ago I installed arch on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo XI 2550. The first problem I ran into was that booting the live-cd resulted in a black screen and I could not even start with installing arch. This problem was solved with the kernel parameter 'nomodeset'.
    The first boot of the freshly installed arch also resulted in a black screen after the GRUB menu which was perfectly displayed. After some searching (here and here and ...) I plugged in an external monitor and it showed the login screen. I then installed KDE because I thaught the problem might not show up with X and KDE running. After the login to KDE I realized that the brightness of the laptop display is nearly black but not totally. It seems as if the brightness is at a very low level, but brightness cannot be controlled with the Fn+F8 or Fn+F9 commands. But I see a OSD that indicates that the controls are used but without effect. So at the moment it is only possible to work on the laptop with another display connected to it.
    Maybe of use:
    ls /sys/class/backlight/
    acpi_video0
    radeon_bl0
    less /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/bl_power

    Hello Trilby,
    thanks for the reply.
    Trilby wrote:If nomodeset worked with the installation medium, why haven't you tried that for the same problem on your installed system?
    The kernel parameter 'nomodeset' results in a working display but without X support, due to the fact that with 'nomodeset' there is no KMS support and therefore no X. But nevertheless I tried it and as expected X did not start.
    Trilby wrote:Could you also post information about your graphics card and what drivers you've installed.
    The graphics card is a Radeon HD 2700 and according to the above dmesg log it is recognized as RV 630. The radeon module is loaded via /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and xf86-video-ati (1:7.5.0-1) is installed.
    I hope the provided information is what you asked for, thanks for your help.

  • PS3 stays in black screen after choosing game or PS store

    Hi! My playstation stays in black screen when ever i try to run a game, demo or even the Playstation Store! it boots the playstation to the "Home screen" but when i launch a game or the Playstation Store it goes to black screen!

    The problem once happened to me. Launching games was fine, both disc and downloads but launching apps such as netflix or the store resulted in a black screen. Initially I thought it was the internet service but by the morning the problem sorted itself out.
    Today, about 2-3 weeks later the same thing is happening. All games still play fine but the store and netflix both result in a black screen.
    It may be trouble with the PS3 to TV via HDMI but I have never had trouble with the same set up for years.
    I think it might be a problem with the firmware.
    Here are something that might help people narrow down my problem:
    - I have the time and date automatically updated
    - I haven't fiddled with any DNS codes to obtain a different regions netflix
    - My TV supports full 1080p picture.
    - My HDMI is in perfect working order, as is the TV
    If anyone knows anything that might help let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Black screen when monitor connected to one graphics card port only

    A couple of days ago did a back up using SuperDuper. The program is set to send the mac to sleep and when I tried to wake it got a black screen though the system seemed to have woken judging by the sounds. I've had issues after back up with the system freezing so tried rebooting as the first option, unplugging and reconnecting everything but still a black screen. Tried a second monitor and this worked but on reboot it too turned black. I then tried the second graphics card port and this time the screen worked and rebooted fine too. Since then I've tried the original connector/port and sometimes it works sometimes not and mostly even when it does work when I connect at first a reboot results in a black screen. The obvious logic is that this port has gone (ATI Radeon HD 2600) Apple say I have to return the whole kit to base for them to evaluate. I can't afford to be without the Mac for a week or however long it will take so I will just buy a new video card and install myself but just wanted any thoughts on the issue first - could it be anything other than the graphics card? Other hardware/software issues? Can't think why but don't want to shell out if that's not the problem.
    Also, will the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 work with my 2008 Mac Pro?
    Many thanks

    The 2600 does seem pretty rubbish - never had a Graphics card go on me before - and especially not in less than a year. Of course Apple said I had to return the whole machine to base rather than ship out a new card. It was less disruptive to shell out for a new card than lose the machine for a week or two under warranty. The GT 120 seems fine to me but if you need extra graphics support for 3D, gaming etc then I guess the 4870 is the more powerful option.
    Just to confirm it is the graphics card have you tried reseating it in another slot?. Also I found that for a while at least swapping to the second monitor port worked until that bit the dust after a week.

  • Power cut black screen!

    Hello. Power cut over the weekend has resulted in a black screen. Mac chimes and sounds like it is running but screen is black / blank. Is there anything i can do myself without jeopardising any saved data? Thanks ever so - Jim

    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your iMac.
    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on your iMac.
    Press and hold the Command(⌘)-Option-P-R keys
    Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
    Resetting the SMC for  iMac
    Shut down your iMac.
    Unplug all cables including  the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
    Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on your iMac.
    If resetting the PRAM and SMC didn't work contact Apple Support.

  • Bug: Target Display Mode + optical audio cable = black screen

    Using Target Display Mode on my iMac 27" (late-2012) with my MacBook Air (mid-2013) always resulted in a black screen on the iMac.
    Hardware used:
    MacBook Air mid-2013 (Mac OS X 10.8.4)
    iMac 27" late-2012 (Mac OS X 10.8.4)
    Thunderbolt cable between MBA and iMac
    optical audio cable in iMac (digital audio out through optical mini jack plug)
    Now, enter Target Display Mode on the iMac keyboard (Cmd+F2).
    Result: black screen on the iMac (MBA is okay, optical audio is okay)
    Workaround: unplug optical audio cable before entering Target Display Mode. Plug in the optical digital audio out cable after TDM is working and all is fine.
    I sent a bug report through the feedback form. Just posting here to save others the few hours I had to spend finding the cause and workaround!

    Thank you!! Saved me a trip to the Genius Bar.
    Confirmed: Bug also exists in the new 2013 iMac under Mavericks. Unplugging the optical cable before entering Target Display Mode solved the problem.

  • Windows 8 HP Pavilion dv7-4285dx Upgrade results in black screen after intallation finalizes.

    I have a 2011 HP Pavilion dv7-4285dx with Windows 7 64 bit Home premium installed.  The notebook/laptop has a AMD Radeon HD 6300M series display adapter with driver version 9.2.2.0 dated 9/27/2012 and an ATI technologies Intel HD Graphics display adapter with driver version 8.7771.1.0.  The notebook/laptop has not had a hardware upgrade and contiains the orignal factory OS. BIOS is current to latest available.
    The issue I had while upgrading to Windows 8 is after the install finalizes (settings and preferences are entered) and the system boots to the tiles screen, the display works fine.  Clicking to the desktop works only for a few moments before the screen goes dark. Pressing the power button and/or closing/opening the lid results in at times a black screen (no power to the screen) or black screen (power to the screen) or a black screen where only the mouse pointer is visible and moves around the screen.  Restarting the computer results in a repeat of the issue at times while other times it will boot directly to what appears to be the windows desktop. You can interact with the file folder icon on the task bar as well as internet explorer, and you can get the charms bar and tile screen. Any attempt to open computer management or any control panel or task manager will open the window as an icon on the task bar.  You can mouseover the icon to "preview" a small version of the window but you can not click on it to maximize.
    I attempted the following workarounds:
    1) Clean install of Windows 8: Installs but fails with same result as above
    Refresh PC from windows 8 rescue media: Works slightly longer until AMD driver fails and then reverts to situation above.
    2) Uninstalling all display adapters (via computer management) and then upgrading to Windows 8: Results in microsoft drivers getting installed, works much as refresh above until AMD driver fails and then reverts to above situation.
    3) In Scenarios 1 and 2,  I also tried to use windows update within Win8 to update the drivers there are updated MS drivers available ,(dated as late as 10/27/2012) but intalling those drivers also resulted in a failure of the adapter within a short period of time as did NOT updating the drivers.
    4) Disabling display adapters and then restarting:  Results in a BSOD (Blue Screen) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Stop: 0x0000000A error during boot as the OS runs into trouble with the driver before Windows 7 boots.  This happens if one or both drivers are disabled.
    5) Disabling display adapters before in-place upgrade to Windows 8 results in the Windows 8 equivalent of a BSOD and results in the system shutting down and then reverting to Windows 7.
    Through research, I determined some ppl had luck connecting another monitor/HD TV through VGA/HDMI and then using the function-screen button to switch, with my system this resulted in the same issue displayed on the TV/Monitor. There are also updates to ATI and Catalyst center available including drivers and installing these do not remedy the issue. Intel was checked and there are no drivers available as HP uses a "custom" driver for intel.  Attempting to install any of these Intel drivers will result in a fail with a compatiblity error.
    Windows 8 has no safe mode ability from the windows 8 rescue media disk, you cannot F-8 as you could in the preview. Safe mode must be reached via charms, settings, startup and then selecting safe mode as a boot option, which is not available as the display adapter malfunctions.  In those scenarios where I was able to get a windows desktop to boot up as in the first paragaph I can get to the restart settings via charms, but clicking to bring up the restart menu requires another window to open which is only visible as a "preview" on the windows task bar.
    if you are going to attempt to try any of these,
    1) Use a third party software to image your pre-win 8 upgrade system that you can boot into from USB or CD;
    2) Before starting the process, disable the UAC prompt and remove any passwords from logon, as those things will require you to interact with the OS and you will not be able to do this when the adapters fail.  The screen will shadow out as it usually does but the prompt will not be viewable.
    3) Create an ISO image of the Win8 install media and write down the product key. If you are able to get a successful boot, before the drivers fail, create a Windows 8 rescue media disk.
    I spoke with HP tech support this morning (10/29/2012) they are aware of the issues and they lie with the display adapters.  They are working toward a solutuion but there are none available at this time and no date when they will be available.  They recommend checking the support website and having the web page autoscan your PC as the drivers will show there when they are posted and they will be installable from Windows 7 so there will be no issue with upgrading to Windows 8.  Bottom line, do not upgrade to Windows 8 at this time.
    MS Tech support escalation tier reps also informed me there is no present workaround available.
    Hope this helps and saves somebody some time!

     My laptop sat at BestBuy from Friday night until today (10-31-12)! They couldn't figure out how to fix the problem so I finally told them to revert my latop back to Windows 7! I hope HP reads these and will hurry up and make the updates needed so that I can run Windows 8 on my Laptop! I just bought mine in July of last year there is nothing wrong with it and after dropping about $1200.00 for my dv7-4285dx along with the Best Buy Geek Squad package I do not feel like having to drop more money into another laptop!! PLEASE HURRY AND FIX THIS I DIDN"T DROP $69.99 plus tx to not be able to use Windows 8! Even before I did the upgrade I had the GEEk Squad check to make sure I could make the upgrade and was told this laptop well surpasses the required minium to run Windows 8!!!!!!
