Prevent Zip File Attachments

I have an atachment interface on my form that allows the user to click a custom button labeled, "Attach New File". The script opens a browse window and the user is able to select and attach a file they select. I would like to prevent the user from being able to attach .zip files because Acrobat will not open them. How can I test the file they select and not attach it if it is a .zip file? Here's the script:

Thank you for your reply. It's interesting that when you drag and drop a .zip file into the atachments pane a pop-up message appears but not when you attach the same file using script.
Regarding your suggeation, any idea what the script would be to "...read the incoming file header"?
Thanks

  • Zip file attachments renamed to Mail Attachment since upgrading to SL

Does not appear to happen with jpeg files. This happens with both new emails that have .zip attachments and emails previously received. I can rename the file and add the .zip extension and get at its contents (Microsoft Access database file). Any ideas on how to stop this from happening? This did not occur before upgrading to Snow Leopard.

If the MacBook that is not using SL and this Mac are both on and receiving the message, then will the message on the MacBook remain named correctly, but with the Mac using Mail 4.1, it is not? (I think this is what you are reporting, but just making sure.)
    Yes
Is there any SPAM or Anti-virus software on this computer?
    No
Using each computer, open such a message, click on View in the menubar, place the cursor on Message in the resulting pull-down and choose Raw Source. Observe the attachment header for this file on each computer, and report.
Will check this when I get home tonight.

One more thing that I found interesting. I used Time Machine to look at older emails that had been backed up and all their attachments (the .zip ones) have been renamed to Mail Attachment as well.

  • Allow Zip Files as Attachments in PDFs

As many of you are aware, newer versions of Acrobat have removed the ability to open or save zip files attached to a PDF (without a complex registry hack).
Notice that I've attached a zip file to this post. Adobe: If you've deemed zip files safe enough to be hosted and delivered in your own forums, maybe they're safe enough to be reinstated in PDFs?
I believe no product should force security on its users without providing them any practical way to override. Web browsers, email clients, and operating systems warn you of potentially dangerous files and then let the client make the choice. What if it's a zip file from a trusted source full of harmless text documents? Too bad - because Acrobat says so. Acrobat makes no attempt to examine the zip file to see if perhaps its contents are dangerous - it just sweepingly decides zips are far too dangerous to let the user have any voice in the matter. I fundamentally disagree.
I think Adobe got this one wrong - and I cast a vote that they loosen the noose on zip files on a future release. I'd like to hear other users' thoughts on this issue. Adobe is good at listening to their users - so tell them what you think.
    Cheers,
    Dan

This information is for Acrobat Professional users in Windows XP. I don't know if it
is valid for PCs using only Acrobat Reader.
Adobe is wrong but that doesn't mean we have to live with their problem.
Since when does anyone open attachments from unknown or unsolicited sources?
Some zip files can be or contain executables (.exe) but that is no excuse for not
knowing where your emails or files come from and not having up to date virus software.
Adobe did not disallow zip file attachments, they just buried the enable so deep
that the average user would never find it and using an editor (regedit) that most users
have never heard of. As far as I am concernced, without any word from the Adobe
    Tower, this is pure marketing.
I have inserted a jpeg photo that shows, for Windows XP, where to find the hidden enable
and how to edit to allow opening OR saving (recommended) zip files. This is the
file I have been passing to my Engineers and suppliers. The information comes from
a help call I put in to Adobe.
Editting the registry is not difficult, you just need to be sure that nothing unusual
happens while editting the text or saving after done. Have an IT person or other
superuser do the edit if you are unsure. After editting and saving, select  BuiltInPermList,
then pulldown  File   and click   Export. This produces a one-click edit that will fix the
problem on any Windows XP computer.
Adobe is also blocking rar, tar and tgz compressions.
This edit needs to repeated anytime Acrobat is reinstalled.

  • Messages with zip files or multiple attachments are not being delivered

Has anyone else come across this? I've discovered that files sent from my .mac account are not being delivered if they contain zip files or multiple attachment. A single .docx file goes through, but multiple doc files or a single zip file do not.
I get no error message, and neither does the recipient. The message sends on my end but simply doesn't show up on their end.
Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

Another follow-up: Now, for whatever reason, even attachments of a single document aren't going through.
Again, I'm receiving no error message, and it shows up in my sent folder. It just never makes it to the recipient.
This is very frustrating, and makes my iCloud mail account all but useless. Does anyone have any idea at all what might be happening?

  • How to include attachments to the standard PO approval notifications attachments.zip file?

    Hi,
    Oracle EBS 12.0.6 and 12.1.3
Following the ML Note Adding an Attachments Table Using Personalization [ID 790344.1], I have added an attachments table to the PO Supplier Change Request page. I am able to upload attachments and can see them in the tables. How can I include these attachments in the workflow notifications? When the notifications are received, PO pdf is attached and an attachments.zip file is included with other attachments but not the ones that I have uploaded using the new attachments table.
To find how Oracle is able to attach files to a single zip file, I searched for "ZIP_ATTACHMENT" keyword in dba_source table and found it is being done in the APPS.PO_COMMUNICATION_PVT.GENERATE_PDF_BUYER package procedure.  Do I have to modify this procedure or is there a less invasive way, which is upgrade proof too?
    Thanks.

How can I install attachments for SAP notes with zip-files ???

Can you elaborate on your question? How exactly is your question related to SAP NetWeaver Portal: Application Integration? If you are really asking how to install attachments contained in SAP notes, there is no automatic/general way and you should ask your question in the Software Support and Maintenance space to begin with. What SAP note(s) are you looking at installing?

  • How to prevent unauthorized extraction of the zip files I created.

    Hi all,
Can anyone help me in knowing abt this.
Is there any way to prevent unauthorized extraction of the zip files I create using Java.

    Thanks in Advance.

Since you already found out that Java's zipping methods don't implement password protection, all you could possibly do is encrypting the contents.

  • Don't want zip files as attachments

Sometimes a document such as Word or Excel will appear as a zip in my message when I attach it. I do not want to send a zip file. How can I stop Apple from converting it? I have an iBook G4 with Tiger. Yahoo says they are not doing it, problem is caused by Apple. Note: I have the Apple Microsoft conversion program so my documents are fully workable. Usually I can fix the Word or PDF attaching problem by exporting and saving as a different type of file, but this is not an option for Excel.

Adam, it does have Show Package Contents.
As far as I know, it is an Excel file. It is a stand-alone document, consisting of several sheets containing various information - the whole file is a listing of various Scouting organizations, such as packs, troops and posts. But, it is one single file, just with various pages.
To me, this is not a package.
But, and this relates to another member's suggestion, the file name does not have a xls suffix. When I try to save it as the file name with xls, I am told it cannot be saved as an Excel file because it is a Numbers file. All I know is when the Scout Office sent it to me, they sent it as an Excel file, and I am able to open, read and edit it because of my Apple-supplied Microsoft converter software.
I don't know where to go now with this. The only way I can send it back with my changes is to convert it to a PDF file.
Thanks for any help you and the others can give me.

  • Download all attachments as a zip file

    Hi,
I want to download all files as a zip file from the database using c#.net visual webpart.

    Hi,
Sheelaj request you to drop the idea for getting into database to achieve this task, because SharePoint does not support any activities directly to query its contents.
Do you have the document library in the site from there you want to download as Zip ?
May be this link shed some insight
    http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/uploadfile/GemingLeader/programmatically-compress-and-decompress-files/
Or just a  the content database ?
I heard about there is some tools or custom code to convert the binary format into physical file in .NET,
but i am not sure how its going to fit into SharePoint and your requirement.

  • How to prevent automatically opening of downloaded zip-files?

I have a problem to install an extension in Joomla. Joomla asks for a Zip-file. When I download the zip-file from the website, the zip-file is shown in Finder as a folder, i.e. an opened zip-file. Joomla does not see a folder, because it looks for a zip-file. I have a terrible solution, but I am sure others will know a better one. I used my old Windows computer, downloaded the zip-file that in Windows shows the extension .zip. Copy the file to Finder and now it shows in Finder the file as a zip-file. So, I suppose that my OS X (now Yosemite, but it happened already under Maverics) or my Safari changes a zip-file in an opened form. I could not find a way to change this to the state that Safari, Finder or OS X is not automatically opening zip-files.

Choose Preferences from the Safari menu, click on General, and uncheck the box to automatically open safe files.

  • Cannot open/unblock msi & exe files in .zip file

Trying to open .zip file but get security warning. Have tried to set unblock file but still issue still exists and the files cannot be opened. Is there a way to override this restriction?

I had the same problem in build 9926 (seems to be solved for me in 10041). Clicking "Unblock" or running the Powershell command "unblock-file" had no effect whatsoever.
A workaround is to add a Policy that prevents Windows from blocking the file in the first place, when it's downloaded. This requires you to redownload the files though, as it does not fix already blocked files.
    Solution 1:
Add the following to the registry or save it as a reg-file to import:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Attachments]
    "SaveZoneInformation"=dword:00000001
Where 1 is "do not block downloaded files" and 2 would be "block downloaded files"
    Solution 2:
Open gpedit.msc and browse to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Attachment Manager. Enable "Do not preserve zone information in file attachments".
    Seems no reboot is required.

  • NCS reports email as zip files

I recently migrated from WCS to NCS and since the migration all the reports are being sent inside a zip file.  I remember having this issue when I first installed WCS many years ago, however I am unsure what was done to correct it.  I have checked the Administration section of NCS to try and find the setting but no luck or within the Report Launch pad on any of the migrated reports or the new reports.
I don't want them sent as zip files but as either native CSV or PDF as specified within the appropriate report.  The reports are never that big to need compressing into a zip plus the mail server they send through will accept up to 20-25MB attachments which is much greater than the native size of any of the reports generated through NCS or WCS.

I agree, I email quite a few csv reports and the file size is typically under 1k. It is strange they don't making the zip file an option instead of doing it mandantory with every e-mail. I find it very cumbersome when dealing with 10 - 12 reports and having to unzip every file first.

  • Zip file as a SOAP attachment problem

I have an application that sends a zip file as an attachment. I have the file stored on the server and before I send it, I delete and/or add some files in the archive. I use the zip util packages for the zip file editing. I encode it to base64 and then send it as an attachment using SAAJ.
On the receiving end, I decode it and write it out to disk. Winzip opens the file ok, but when I try to open individual files I get either corrupted data or wrong crc errors. Some files open ok.
For debugging right before I encode and send it, I write it out to a temp file. Using Winzip, I can open and access any file ok. When I compare this temp file with the response version, they match up. The file properties (size, compressed size, crc) match for those files I can't open.
I use the com.sun.mail.util.BASE64EncoderStream and com.sun.mail.util.BASE64DecoderStream classes for the base64 operations.
    The errors are:
    1) Warning: the size of the extracted file (570) does not match the uncompressed size (63) recorded in the zip file
    or
    2) Error: invalid compressed data to inflate
Any help would be greatly appreciated, or general advice for sending zips as SOAP attachments.

Would you mind, can u send the code pls...

There is a chat board that I belong to and they posted a zip file. It looks like a white piece of paper with a folded over corner and says zip on it. When I put my cursor over it, it kind of blows up and then says at the bottom the file name then file.Zip 260K, but I can't click on it to get it to download, save, open, reject, nothing.
I believe I have downloaded zip files in past but for some reason can't download this one.

Are there other similar downloads on the site that do work, such as images, Word documents, etc., or are they all broken the same way?
I wasn't familiar with the ModPlugin extension. Does it operate on the site that has the problem? If so, could you test with the extension disabled? You can do that by restarting in Firefox's Safe Mode, or manually on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions.
If that extension is not relevant to the site that has the problem, or if the problem continues after disabling it, can you provide a link to the site so someone could check it out?
