Prime 2.0 to 2.1 installation

I am currently trying to upgrade Prime 2.0 to 2.1, following the instructions in the release notes.  Having some issues uploading the 2.1 patch to the Virtual controller.  Seems to be a syntax error/fat finger;  Does anyone have any tips or tricks to get the patch uploaded via tftp?  Thanks
Here's the general instructions I was using:
Installing Patches
You may need to install patches to get your version of Prime Infrastructure to the level at which upgrade is supported. For example: If you are currently running Cisco Prime Infrastructure version 1.3.0, you must install the PI_1_3_0_20-Update.4-16 patch before attempting to upgrade. You can check the Prime Infrastructure version and patch version you are running by using the CLI commands show version and show application .
Different patch files are provided for each version of Prime Infrastructure and its predecessor products. Download and install only the patch files that match the version of your existing system and that are required before you upgrade to a higher version. You can find the appropriate patches by pointing your browser to the Cisco Download Software navigator .
Before installing a patch, you will need to copy the patch file to your Prime Infrastructure server’s default repository. Many users find it easy to do this by first downloading the patch file to a local FTP server, then copying it to the repository. You can also copy the patch file to the default repository using any of the following methods:
cdrom—Local CD-ROM drive (read only)
disk—Local hard disk storage
ftp—URL using an FTP server.
http—URL using an HTTP server (read only)
https—URL using an HTTPS server (read only)
nfs—URL using an NFS server
sftp—URL using an SFTP server
tftp—URL using a TFTP server
Step 1 Download the appropriate point patch to a local resource in your environment:
a. With the Cisco Download Software navigator displayed in your browser, select Products > Cloud and Systems Management > Routing and Switching Management > Network Management Solutions > Cisco Prime Infrastructure .
b. Select the version of Cisco Prime Infrastructure that most closely matches the one you are currently using (e.g.,Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 ).
c. Click Prime Infrastructure Patches to see the list of available patches for that version of the product.
d. Next to each patch that is required, click Download , then follow the prompts to download the file.
Step 2 Open a command-line interface session with the Prime Infrastructure server (see Connecting Via CLI in the Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 Administrator Guide ).
Step 3 Copy the downloaded patch file to the default local repository. For example:
admin# copy source path /defaultRepo
Where:
source is the downloaded patch file’s location and name (for example: ftp://MyFTPServer/pi_9.3.1.0_update.tar.gz).
path is the complete path to the default local backup repository, defaultRepo.

Step 1 Download the appropriate point patch to a local resource in your environment:
 a. With the Cisco Download Software navigator displayed in your browser, select Products > Cloud and Systems Management > Routing and Switching Management > Network Management Solutions > Cisco Prime Infrastructure .
 b. Select the version of Cisco Prime Infrastructure that most closely matches the one you are currently using (e.g., Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 ).
Step 4 Install the patch:
 admin# patch install patchFile defaultRepo
Where patchFile is the name of the patch file you copied to defaultRepo.

This patch is not intended to be installed from CLI. You have to update this from the GUI of Cisco Prime Infra.
To install this patch from GUI :
    >> Log in to the Prime Infrastructure server using an ID with administrator privileges and choose Administration > Software Update .
    >> Click Upload Update File and browse to the location where you saved the patch file. Click OK to upload the file.
    >> When the upload is complete:
         a. On the Software Upload page, confirm that the Name, Published Date and Description of the patch file are correct.
         b. Select the patch file and click Install .
         c. You will see a popup message indicating when the installation is complete. You should also see a listing for the patch in the “Updates” table, with a “Yes” opposite the patch under the “Installed” column, and a “Yes” under the “Pending Restart” column.
    >> Restart the server by first executing the ncs stop command and then the ncs start command, as explained in Running Commands.
Step 7 Verify that the patch is installed by logging into the server and choosing Administration > Software Update . You should see a listing for the patch in the “Updates” table, with a “Yes” opposite the patch under the “Installed” column, and a “No” under the “Pending Restart” column.

  • Prime Update (ubf) stays on Restart Pending

    Hi,
I've done a new Cisco Prime 2.0 (single virtual server) installation and saw there were twoupdates to install:
    - December Update with bugfixes: pi_update_2.0-3.ubf
    - Device package Update: pi_dev_pack_update_2.0-10.ubf
So I uploaded these through the GUI (Administration > Software Update)
    as stated in README_for_PI_2_0_UBF_Patch.rtf
I uploaded and installed them. Both came back with Pending Restart 'Yes' and Installed 'Yes'.
So I restarted the system with a ncs stop and start and even tried a reload. And still both stay on 'Yes'.
As per the documentation, after a restart it should be Pending Restart 'No' and Installed 'Yes'.
Also, when I do a show version from CLI it states:
    Cisco Prime Infrastructure
    Version : 2.0.0.0.294
    Any ideas?

Glad you got it figured out. I guess the lesson is completely apply one update or patch before starting on a second - at least for now.
BTW, my updated installation shows the same version as yours from the cli:

OK, that's the correct one. Can you verify the checksum of the file? It should be:

If that's OK, I would delete the VM and try installing the ova once more.
Other than that, I'd suggest calling the TAC if it's a supported installation (i.e. not an evaluation copy).

  • Cisco LMS 4.2 Appliance on VMware vSphere 4.0

    Hi all,
I'm currently trying to install the Cisco LMS 4.2 Appliance on a VMware vSphere 4.0 environment.
    I'm following the http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.2/install/guide/instl.html#wp1689675
    guide.
I downloaded the Cisco_Prime_LAN_Management_Solution_4_2.iso and I started the server.
I get this screen and I choose option 1:
    A Welcome message appears:
Welcome to Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2
To boot from hard disk, press <Enter>
    The following options appears:
•[1] Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2 Installation
This option allows you to perform installation of LMS 4.2.
    •[2] Recover administrator password
This option allows you to recover the administration password. Follow Step 3 to Step 17 of Recovering Admin Password on Soft Appliance Installed on VMware, to recover the administration password.
•<Enter> Boot existing OS from Hard Disk
This allows you to boot up the existing OS available in the hard disk.
However, unlike the installation on my laptop (using VMware Workstation) I cannot get to this part:
Enter the following configuration details of the server:
    •Hostname
    •IP Address
    •Subnetmask
    •Gateway
    •DNS Domain
    et cetera
What follows looks like an installation to me.
When this stops I get a
    localhost login:
I cannot enter Setup as I get a password statement afterwards.
Can somebody please help me as I'm having no idea what went wrong..
    Many thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your help, Marvin.
We went ahead with the .ova file and it worked alright.
We also did a little test and it seems that the .iso file does work on some VMware platforms. Our test environment had a VMware vSphere 4.1. When we started a VM with the same specs and the ISO file mounted, the installation did succeed.

  • Clarification in MSE upgrade to 7.4.121 (3355 appliance)

    Hi all ,
We have recently upgraded our WLC with 7.4.121. Hence we want to upgrade our MSE and prime alos in our environment .In installation and configuration of MSE guide , I am able to see the upgrade procdure either through WCS or CLI of MSE . But in release notes of 7.4.121 is telling about upgrade with data migration or without data migration. I m new to MSE . Which one method should I need to follow for upgrading the MSE ?Is it possible to update via Prime ?What is data migration ? Any other thing should i need to concentrate ?
    Thanks ,
    Vijay

    Vijay,
That file is typically used when upgrading from previous v7.0. The other file is used when upgrading from older versions prior to v7.0. The time it takes to upgrade depends on how much data you have also if your doing a data migration or not. I have had an upgrade with data migration take 8 hours. So it really depends. If you don't need to save the data, I say it would take less than an hour.
Make sure you follow the directions though. First time you do this of course it will take longer.

  • LMS 4.2 compliance license

    Hello, all
Recently I look around Cisco Prime Infrastructure.
Looking Datasheet and Installation guide... and... It's so hard.
in licensing, I know how Lifecycle and Assuarance licenses are running.
but, I can't understand about the compliance licensing explanation.
    anyone know what is this?

The Compliance License allows you to manage the state of your network with respect to many government and industry compliance-related standards such as PCI DSS, SOX, HIPAA, etc. Right now, compliance is only available on LMS 4.2, the license for which is included with PI 1.2.
If you install only a pure PI 1.2 setup, you will not have access to compliance features. PI 2.0 will include the full compliance functions. Reference.
If you don't have he compliance license, you will only be able to use the majority of the compliance tools (in an LMS installation) for a trial period of 90  days.
Cisco also has a a PI 1.2 ordering and licensing guide that explains in some more detail: link.

  • Prime LMS 4.2 installation with solaris 10 volume manager

    Hello
Is it possible to use Solaris Volume Manager for disk mirroring in prime LMS 4.2 installation over sparc arquitecture?
This is intended for having hard disk redundancy support.
    Is there any documented reference?

    Regards

They were not tested together, and I recommend they not be installed on the same zone instance (due to potential conflicts).  Now, if you're certain you have a server that can accommodate both suites (in terms of resources), create separate zones for each suite.  This will eliminate the conflict possibility while still giving you one overall physical machine to manage.

SOme of the similar discussion happened here, which would be helpful.
    To answer your questions :
A.> Yes all three of them are separate software.
LMS :--> Ciscoworks Prime LMS is about to be end-of-life software which will phase out in favour of its successor Cisco Prime Infrastructure. This Software was the key application from Cisco to help manage the entire Wired Infrastructure for cisco devices, like Routers, switches, VPN, FW's, etc.
NCS:--> Wireless Control System (WCS) was the LMS equivalent software to manage Cisco's wireless infrastructure. It evolved as a new Generation Network Control System (NCS).
Cisco Prime Infrastructure :--> Cisco felt market demand to have a unified experience to manage both Wired and Wireless Infrastructure, hence Cisco Prime Infrastructure was introduced which is NCS+LMS. Not all features of LMS are migrated, hence customer's are allowed to use LMS latest version 4.2.x for wired network devices, if required.
B.> Prime is now provided with an inbaked Linux kernel to remove dependency from Windows or Unix (Solaris) OS, hence it is only available as OVA deployment image to be used under virtualized environment and can take benefit of virtualized infrastructure.
FOllowing are the download links :
    Download LMS 4.2 here
    Download PI 2.1 here

  • Cisco Prime Installation

please how do I delete the OVA file of the Cisco prime infrastructure 2.2 and install the Cisco prime infrastructure 2.1 OVA file on a Vmware machine.
    Kindly respond,
    Best Regards,
    Tioluwani

You have to remove from inventory and optional, you can also delete from disk.  If your 100% sure you want to remove the VM, then delete from disk and it will also remove from inventory.  To install any ova, you will click file > deploy ovf template and install your PI2.1.
I would stay with PI 2.2
