Print Properties button is disabled

Hi
I am using open source editor jEdit (version 4.3 pre15) with Java 1.6.0_11. I have two problems with printing:
1) When I select File | Print, the Print window appears but the 'Properties' button is greyed out. This is true whichever printer I select. The button is enabled in the print dialog of other applications (not necessarily Java based apps).
2) When I change the printer selection in the dialog, the application hangs for about 30s before showing the change of selection.
I do not know whether these problems are caused by an application (jEdit) bug, an incorrect Java option setting, or incorrect Printer settings on the network. But the first problem is definitely recent (i.e. not seen by me in jEdit before) and occurs on several computers.
Please can anyone suggest a reason for this behaviour?
Best regards
David

I confirm print dialog issue with a java application I am developing myself. "Properties..." button is greyed out when (PrinterJob)foo.printDialog() is invoked.
Bump.
System details:
Ubuntu 8.10
CUPS 1.3.9-2ubuntu9.1
java-6-sun-1 1.6.0.10
Printer is Brother HL2700CN using latest BRStript-3 .PPD driver.

  • Issue with Print Properties button not responding in Adobe Reader 10.1.10

We've recently been upgrading Adobe Reader 9.4.4 to 10.1.10 and started having a few reports of the Print -> Properties box in Adobe Reader not responding.  When this happens Adobe Reader will crash if you click on the Print button.  If you go into Devices and Printers and try and access the Printer Properties you are prompted to install the driver for the device.  It does seem to be quite random, it will work fine for days and the suddenly happen.  I've done testing and have been able to get it happen by opening Outlook, Word or Excel but it is completely hit and miss.  Sometimes the issue will happen and other times no matter how many times you open and close the various applications it's fine.
Fortunately it only seems to be an issue when accessing Properties, if you just print there are no options which is probably why we don't have more complaints.  Unfortunately this didn't come to light until we'd rolled it out to 2000+ machines across 8 locations.
So far I've tried the following:
    1. Upgraded to Adobe Reader 11.0.9 and same issue
    2. Created a test print queue using a different print driver (my machine has a different driver again and is using a different print server)
    3. Uninstalled a number of applications that have caused us issues with Office 2010 due to dodgy addins (Workshare and HP Filesite)
    4. Rolled back to 9.4.4 and seems OK.  Problem here is that they receive PDFs in formats not compatible with older than X.
System is Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 32bit, Office Professional 2010, printing is to Ricoh Equitrac (Follow You)
Anyone have a fix for this or come across this before.  I'm going to try testing with a Postscript driver to see if that helps, which is the last item on Adobe's troubleshooting list.

Select a PDF file, CMD+I, check the Open With section, and ensure that AR is selected. If not, then select it and click on the Change All button. Alternatively, select Preview, which is my default PDF reader.

  • When printing an email, the "properties" button doesn't open the hp printer's properties

The issue is likely caused by one of your add-ons. Restart Firefox with Add-ons Disabled to check if that's the case.

If the problem goes away in Safe Mode, you can either try to determine which add-on is to blame, or you can Reset Firefox and get rid of them all.

  • In Windows 7 document printing the "Properties" button does not open the print selection list.

New computer OS is Windows 7. Old computer OS was Windows XP.
HP Officejet 4500 Wireless Printer G510n-z printed documents as I chose using the Porperties button on the old system. Under the new system the Properties button does nothing and I must print using "general printing" instead of the setting I wish to use. How can it be fixed?

When something works one day, but not the next, then something has changed. The fonts issue is an easy one, but with no new ones, then it is possible that one, or more, of the installed fonts has become corrupted.
While fonts are not the only possibility, they ARE a common problem. Titler is very sensitive to fonts, either corrupt ones, or badly written ones, that are not exactly "corrupt."

  • Print Button Widget disappears if print properties is cancelled

    Hello All,
Maybe I am doing something wrong, but when using the Captivate 5 print button widget the button hides when the clicked.  The print properties panel appears. That all makes sense (the button does not need to appear in the screen print), but if the user cancel the print job without actually printing it, then the button does not re-appear...  This seems like a major flaw.
Has anyone successfully used this widget dispite this flaw or have any idea why it is not displaying again if the print dialogue box is cancelled out.
    Thanks,
    Michael

Funny, I just found this tech note:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/509/cpsid_50981.html
The Adobe PDF Printer is not available or is unusable in Mac OS X Snow Leopard (v10.6). This situation is due to security features in Snow Leopard that disable the Adobe PDF Printer. Adobe Acrobat 9.1 Pro removes the Adobe PDF Printer and adds a new Save As Adobe PDF command. Customers using earlier versions of Adobe Acrobat in Snow Leopard cannot use the Adobe PDF Printer.
Does this also affect Acrobat 8 then...?

  • Selecting printer properties causes application to terminate

When I attempt to print a pdf document, if I just select the 'print' option it works fine.  However, if I select the printers 'properties' button in order to change these the application terminates. I have Windows Vista on my machine and had been happily using an older version of Reader before the problem arose. I have now downloaded version X10.1.4, but this has not resolved the problem.
The error message I get is " Adobe Reader has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".  The only solution offered was to download a later version of Reader.
The sequence of the problem suggests that something has changed in Windows Vista and that this is not yet reflected in Reader

I don't know what is causing this.  What I would try if this happened to me
try to disable Protected Mode [Adobe Reader | Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)]
try installing the latest printer driver

User with administrators rights cannot change printer properties on "Advanced" tab from "Devices and Printers" on Windows Server 2012 R2.
If to launch "Devices and Printers" on server, all printer properties on "Advanced" tab are inactive (see screen below).

Can you help me with that? Look like somethings with rights.
    Thank you.

    Hello, Alan
    Morris.
    Thanks for your reply.
I've tried to runs PS Script both locally and remotely, previously running Powershell ISE as Administrator.
I've noticed interesting thing - if to
    check "Enable advanced printing features"
manually thru Print Management snap-in, script works fine. But, time to time after some manipulations on print server, this advanced feature returns to enabled state automatically by system, I think. In this case PS Script does not work. Next, if to disable
feature manually again (thru Print Management snap-in),
and enable manually again, PS Script will work. Very strange situation.
    Thanks.

  • Cannot change printer properties when printing PDF files in IE8

Whenever I try to print a PDF file displayed within IE8,  I cannot change the printer properties from the print dialogue box.  the properties button appears as if it as if it is active because it visually confirma a click; however no properties dialogue box appears.  printing html from IE8 works fine.
If I save the PDF to desktop and print from there, I can change properties fine.
Running Win7/64; IE8 (32 bit version).  Another PC in the household, also running Win7/64 and IE8/32 does not exhibit this problem.
Printer is Officejet 6500 E709a connected to local workgroup via ethernet cable; I have uninstalled via add remove programs and reinstalled the printer software from the HP CD.  It did not help.

I cannot access 'properties' for my hp1536dnf mfp.

  • Acrobat Pro 9 - Chose Greyscale in print properties, but it is not changing it to greyscale

Acrobat Pro 9 - Chose Greyscale in print properties, but it is not changing it to greyscale.  I tried to go through all the settings, but I cannot figure it out.  I am printing a color PDF document to a greyscale document.
Not sure if I am in the correct community group.

thank you for this post.  It still works and is a required "fix" as of Oct 2010.
Somehow, in my network adapters, a wireless adapter called Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter was there (this may have something to do with the virtualization abilities of Windows 7). Anyway, I disabled that by going to
    Network and Sharing Centre -
    Change Adapter Settings, and then
    right clicking on it and
    choosing disabled.
Next thing I knew Adobe Updater was checking away merrily.

  • Cannot change Printer Properties in Word 2010 with J6480. Properties revert to default setting

When I attempt to change Printer Properties in Word 2010, they simply revert back to the default setting.  I am unable to use the Printer Properties within the Word 2010.  If the default is grayscale, that is all the printer will print unless I change the default setup in the Control Panel. It appears to be an incompatibility with Office 2010 software as other programs allow the change of Printer properties.

I have the exact identical problem.  Brand new printer (HP PhotoSmart C4780) on a brand new PC (Windows 7).  I cannot access the printer properties dialog box when the PDF file has been opened in an embedded Adobe Viewer window in Internet Explorer.
When I select [Print] from Word or Adobe Viewer, or anywhere else, I can then press the [Properties] button and it opens the printer properties just fine.
But if I open a PDF document through Internet Explorer, clicking on that [Properties] button doesn't do anything.  No error or anything.  If I press the [Save] in the Adobe Acrobet-embedded Internet Explorer window, it too does nothing.  This leads me to think it is an Adobe Acrobat issue.  However, I have found nothing in their support forums on this topic.
Does anyone out there have any ideas?
    Scott
