Print service lookup, and permissions

I have written up an application which prints out text to the printer, using the new java print services API. The problem I have is that the i don't get any retuurned services from the lookup, unless i enable all permissions in my java.policy file (it usually has some security settings in there). Does anyone know the kind of permissions that is required for printers to be visible to the application?

Hi, i've the same problem and i allready use the security option RuntimePermission "queuePrintJob" into the java.policy file.
The problem is : if i specify in the java.policy "AllPermision". i get a PrintService array from PrintServiceLookup.lookupPrintServices(null,null). But if i only specified "queuePrintJob" RuntimePermission option, the funtion return an array of length 0.
i guess that i need specified more java policy options to gain access to the printer information, but i can found information about it ....

  • Error 800f0922 when adding Print Services

I have two Windows 2012 R2 servers having the same problem. I removed the Internet Print Service from one of them to troubleshoot a problem and when I try to add it back I get an error that doesn't say very much. (Unable to complete installation. Error 0x800f0922)
I removed print services from a second non-production machine and have the same errors. I have run SFC checks as well as DISM health checks and there are no reported errors on either system.
    Any guidance would be appreciated.
Update: I was able to get Print Services to reinstall by installing it separately from Internet Printing. Internet Printing still will not install.

    Hi,
Regarding your description, I did a test on my Windows Server 2012 R2 environment.
I removed the internet printing service through the add roles and features function and then reinstalled the internet printing service back successfully.
Besides, I also removed the print services feature and then reinstalled it back with internet printing service installed. However, I didn’t receive any error on the above 2 tests.
So I’d like to suggest you to reboot the server and then have a try. If you still got errors, can you please check the event log, and send us the event log. In that way we can do a further investigate.
    Best Regards,
    Eliane

    Hello,
We upgraded last night to the 4.2.x platform and one of the Wave274 boxes had an issue. Its producing a minor on the dashboard (yellow) related to Legacy print services. The error is shown below:

-I've checked all of the Legacy Print Services sections and they reflect:
Print Services feature is not enabled on this Device
-Windows Print Accelerator is enabled by inherited Policy under acceleration.
How can I clear this error and make sure these logs do not indicate an issue?

Check the CLI configuration of the device for the command:
    print-services enable
If it's there, disabling it with no print-services enable.

  • Printing other items on template using print service

On my web template, I am calling a print service class and passing the table item to it. The problem with this is that I can pass only one item. Is it possible to print the other items like filters, text elements, etc? I cannot figure out a way to do this.

  • DNS lookups and printing

I have a workstation, call it Panther, networked to a Mandrake file/print server, to which a laser printer is attached. Defined a printer on Panther, pointing to IPP on server, and everything worked. At some point in long-forgotten time, I stuck an entry for server in Panther's /etc/hosts - not sure if this was for printing, file services or just ssh. Last week, printing ceased to function - Panther's print queue gives a Samba-like error message, something to the effect of "NT Authorization Failure," or some such.
Now, Panther's /etc/resolv.conf has "search Bigdomain.com" as a directive, as well as the (RFC1918) ip address of server for nameserver.
Dragged out tcpdump and found that Panther was querying the ip address of server for "server.Bigdomain.com" and striking out - server doesn't know, really, that it's on that network. I.e., 'dig server.Bigdomain.com' returns NXDOMAIN. Now, 'ping server' does work - evidently ping is smart enough to check /etc/hosts, but printing - since last week! - isn't. Now, server does know that it's server.Littledomain.com, and 'dig server.Littledomain.com' does return the right IP.
So, I changed (on Panther) the search directive to Littledomain.com, and - voila! - printing resumed. Yay.
Until the next morning, when printing stopped again. Sure enough, resolv.conf had changed back. Huh? Then I noticed that when editing it with 'sudo vi /etc/resolv.conf', I was really editing /private/etc/resolv.conf. Hmmmmph. I'm assuming that there's a 'real' /etc/resolv.conf out there that Panther won't let me edit, and it keeps overwriting my edits - why? with the real copy. What's up with that?
    So, two questions:
    1) Why doesn't print check /etc/hosts for the print server lookup, as it apparently used to?
    2) Why can't I make a permanent change in /etc/resolv.conf?
    iBook 14" Mac OS X (10.3.9)
    iBook 14" Mac OS X (10.3.9)
    iBook 14" Mac OS X (10.3.9)
    iBook 14" Mac OS X (10.3.9)
    iBook 14"

    So, two questions:
    1) Why doesn't print check /etc/hosts for the print
server lookup, as it apparently used to?
    2) Why can't I make a permanent change in
    /etc/resolv.conf?
I figured out question 2). Resolv.conf keeps changing back b/c it's set in System Preferences under TCP/IP properties for my connection. D'uh.
I still need help with question 1), though.

  • Online printing services and that built into Aperture

    Hi,
I regularly have pictures printed by a well known high street photo store here in the UK but just recently I've been disappointed with some of the results.
They're coming back too dark and with a yellow cast even though the original files look fine when viewed on several different modern monitors, some calibrated, some not. I even run my monitor at minimum brightness when preparing them to try to simulate how dark they will look when printed using this service. I also add much more exposure to some pictures in Aperture to the point where they start to look washed out and even then they come back a bit dark.
I'm therefore looking to find an alternative service. Can anyone recommend a reliable and affordable online printing service that produces results close to the electronic versions viewed on their monitor?
Has anyone tried the built in "Order Prints" option in Aperture? How did it go?
I briefly tried to use this option last night but for some reason it didn't recognise my Apple ID which I thought was the same as I use to log into these forums ie "d60Dave" in my case. Am I mistaken?
    Regards,
    Dave.

I second that about photobox. I've used them for 2 years or so - never had to send anything back. I've been pleased with the results for prints, posters and small booklets. online service only

  • "Pages" and "Sheets" columns in Server Admin Print Service Jobs

I've been using Print Service for a while now and it's been working reasonably well.
When I'm monitoring queues in Server Admin, I've noticed there are columns for "Pages" and "Sheets." These columns are always blank for every print job in every print queue.
I am not using Print Quotas, but I am managing Preferences for Printing in Workgroup Manager.
    I have two questions:
    1) Any idea why these columns are blank? Does the client-side and/or server-side printer driver have to support this feature? I'm using HP's latest Laserjet drivers for each queue on both the clients and the server. Perhaps these columns are only applicable when using Print Quotas?
    2) If these columns did show something, what would be the difference between "Pages" and "Sheets?" Apple's own documentation offers no description. All their Print Service manual says is:
"Jobs are listed in priority order, and include the name of the user who submitted each job, the name of the job, its size, the number of sheets to be printed, the current status of the job, and the number of pages in the job (you might need to scroll to see the page column)."
    Pretty vague...

Is there anyone using printing services on a Mac server at all that could comment on whether or not you see the print jobs listed in the queue when printing?

  • Photo printing services and the ProPhotoRGB profile?

I recently tried to have some images printed by Adorama here in NYC and they came back washed out and brownish. I eventually deduced that the issue was that the photos had an embedded ProphotoRGB color profile and that Adorama couldn't handle it or convert it to something that would work.
Does anyone have any suggestions for online printing services that can manage this color space and give me really nice prints?
I've just uploaded the same files to Mpix to see how they manage - anyone have any experience with Mpix? How about Nations Photo Lab?
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Also - what is the best workflow for converting ProPhotoRGB color space to another color space? I tried converting it to Adobe RGB and it looks crap.
    Thanks

Both Mpix and WHCC, among others, support a fully color-managed workflow
that allow you to embed a standard RGB working space profile like ProPhoto.
Exactly how did you perform a conversion to Adobe RGB, and how did you view
the image after performing the conversion?

  • Tiger Server and Leopard workstatiger and Lepard workstons - Print Services

Good morning. We are running Tiger server with a 'mixed economy' of Tiger and Leopard workstations. I am finding that Workgroup Manager does not manage the print queues for users at Leopard workstations. They can see and use all the printer queues managed by Print Services. The Tiger machines are fine i.e. they just present the print queues that have been allocated by Workgroup Manager.
I assume that this is an anomaly due to Tiger Server not being 100% compatible with Leopard. But has anyone else experience of this and or a possible solution please?

    Hi Brian
Not with the Print Service specifically but I have noticed similar 'anomalies' elsewhere. For an OD environment nothing specific as such. Tiger MCX do not seem to 'take' in the same way for Leopard Clients as they do for Tiger Clients.
No shattering insight so sorry for that. Of course - you've guessed it - if its all Leopard there are no problems.

  • Windows PC (XP) and Mac OS X Server 10.6 print service

Can someone tell me if it is possible for a Windows PC running XP to make use of the Mac OS X Server 10.6 print service? Following the manual does not help. After enabling SMB I don't manage to connect to one of the shared printers. How could I make use of IPP and LPR support being built into Windows XP?

I know the problems with Time Machine on Mac OS server. In your case: Look at the log files, searching for "backupd", if that tells you anything.
In my case, Time Machine in the last year stopped several times. Occasionally, there was a helpful message in the log files where I could identify a file where it had hung -- typically intermediate build results of Xcode. After excluding or deleting the offending files (where possible), Time Machine ran successfully.
Another situation which has repeatedly occurred is that time machine just hangs and does not progress, and no log entry helps. In 3 such cases what helped was to delete the spotlight index (e.g., with TinkerTool System) and let it rebuild. It took inordinately long (10 hrs) and there were log entries by mdworker that it had difficulty processing files. But when the spotlight index was finally rebuilt, Time Machine worked again.
BTW: I don't need Time Machine to backup the server system, for that I run mirrors etc., but for user files it is most convenient and has helped several times. Thus I have excluded nearly everything but /User/*.

  • Photos sent to Kodak iPhoto print services CROPPED on top and bottom

What is the easiest way to avoid cropping of top and bottom of photos I send to Kodak print service? It is a 1019x2000 size jpeg photo, 320kb

This is a long and skinny photo. You may need to actually put blank space in to get them to keep the entire length of the long side, i.e., If you are printing a 4 x 6, your picture will be 6" on the long side and 3.06" on the short side. If you add .47" of blank space at the top and bottom, you will fill out the entire 4 x 6 inch photo with your 2000 pixel dimension on the long side.
(.47" is an extra 157 pixels top and bottom.)

  • Remote branch guest and Print services

We are deploying guest internet services in our remote branches, using a setup of WLC4402 and LAPs.
These guests require print services at the remote branch.
The DMZ will not be routed to the remote branches, and we prefer if the remote branch printer is not given a
    permanent wireless guest account.
Is there a solution whereby we can connect the printer to these wireless guests.

  • Mopria print service and cisco mDNS

    Hello,
I have a customer who is trying to do printer discovery via an Android Nexus 5 running  the Mopria print service to a Mopria enabled printer and it is not showng up. The wireless he is on  is a AP2602i on a WiSM2 running 7.4.121 with mDNS enabled and multicast disabled. The Bonjour/Airprint service works fine, Ipads, Iphones, etc. can discover the Airprint enabled printers.
The strange part of this is that at another different  site on a AP1131 and WiSM running 7.0.250 and Multicast enabled it the Mopria discovery works. I have read that the Cisco mDNS on the controllers does NOT support third party apps so I turned ON multicast on the WiSM2 but that did not solve the issue. Do I need to make a mDNS service set in the controller maybe? Anyone know the service string?
    Thanks!

The best way to figure out the service string is to use a bonjour discover app.  You can get one for Windows, Mac and IOS devices.  You would connect to that particular device and you will be able to see the service string and be able to add that.  If the Android and the Mopria print service is on the same vlan, then, maybe its something else that needs to be looked at.  Can other devices discover that printer and is the issue only with a certain type of device?

  • Trouble connecting to Apple's book and print service

Does anyone know why I can't connect to the printing service. When I'm ready to print my book thru Apple's service I hit the BUY BOOK... key at the botton left and all I see is the blue candy swirl line. I don't even get into the first window of the service where you choose cover colors. I've let the blue swirl run for a long time before I cancel but nothing happens.
    -S

Just a thought but could the problem be with your firewall ?
Whenever I've had problems with PC applications connecting to remote servers it's usually turned out to be the firewall blocking the port in use.

  • Suisse printing service and wrong  language

I am trying to order a book from the Suisse (French) printing service. I already submitted the book with iPhoto 9.0.1 with no problem but the order was then cancelled as there was a problem with the file they received. Since the update to iPhoto 9.1 the language of the store is wrong, in fact the sheet that appear with order summary is in German and not in french. I have tried to select other stores from the iPhoto preferences and every time I change the store if I pretend to order a book the summary page reflects the change except in the case of the Suisse (French) store. I think it may be a problem of iPhoto 9.1 or of the server but in order to exclude it is a problem with my upgraded copy of iPhoto may somebody try to select the Suisse (French) store and try to click buy book to see if the language that appear on the summary sheet is French or German? Thanks.

It's still broken in 2013, really disappointing. Don't think it is related to any iPhoto version.
The Swiss store is only available in German and French - English, my system language, won't do. However, in all those years I've never seen an option to choose between German/French, iPhoto always just assumed one.
In my case it picks French (instead of German) eventhough the preferred language in the Apple-ID account is German. Also, in "System Preferences -> Language&Text -> Language" German is listed below English but above French on purpose. Furthermore, in "Language&Text -> Formats -> Region" I picked "Switzerland (German)".
I've yet to figure out how Apple picks the effective store. If it doesn't look in either of those three places it's seriously broken anyhow...
